The Red Baron, WWI. Soldiers examine what remains of Manfred von Richthofen's aircraft after he was shot down, and killed over Vaux-sur-Somme, France, just days before his 26th birthday, but by then already an aviation legend.

airsLLide No. 5474: N456US, Fokker 28-1000, USAir, Orlando, March 12, 1991.
When USAir inherited Piedmont's fleet of Fokker 28 through the merger between the two carriers, it repainted the Durch jets with a light grey instead of giving them the polished metal look of USAir's Boeing and McDonnell Douglas jets (if it did not keep them in the hybrid scheme of Piedmont blue and white with USAir titles).
Most probably this happened for similar reasons as with American's Airbus A300s that also got a grey paint base upon delivery since the manufacturer would not guarantee protection from corrosion for unpainted parts - and thinking of it, I can hardly recall more than a handful of Fokker 28s with bare metal skin on the fuselage, as opposed to its descendant, the Fokker 100, which both American and USAir flew in their respective metal looks.

A very rare and daring photo from 1915!
Here we can see a Fokker E.III (Eindekker or single wing) in mid-flight, chasing to shoot down the photographer!! 馃槸
This picture was taken by a British observer who managed to grab their camera, you can see the tail of their plane in the upper right corner.
After tweaking with saturation, some of the German pilot can made out, he is leaning forward and hunching his head down in the cockpit for a better look at his target, or attempting to keep his head down!
At least we know the photo made it back! Very brave men in their (barely) flying machines
