'There is a new type of PSA going around that has me VERY concerned. As it states that others should be accepting and understanding of those who decide to drop threads/communication with other ops/not replying to others' starters. The reason this concerns me is because I feel as if this is an excuse. And no, I am not referring to those who do it on occasion. (As I can understand that. Especially if things go south.)

Regardless, I know for a fact I won't be waiting over 6 thousand years for someone to reply. The point I am trying to make is others can't seriously get mad because the other decided to fodder off and live their lives. Especially if they're the ones to drop shit, to begin with. Clearly, you weren't feeling it. Why should I devote every second of my life hoping you will "eventually" reply? Why should I have to be okay with YOU wasting MY time when I could be interacting with someone who is genuinely interested in my stuff/characters/writing? To me, it just sounds like another form of entitlement... Sorry.'

I was thinking of a character and what ideas do you guys have for a human to get involved in the supernatural?

I have a few ideas for this!

Human who works in the sanctum researching the supernatural and the arcane. Although having no powers themselves, they are obsessed with the supernatural world and do everything they can to study it. is this a super villain origin story? maybe.

A human who is a paranormal investigator, blogger and online personality thinks that all of the older places in Hexmore are haunted. And they're about to bite off more than they can chew!

A human doctor who found out about the supernatural after a nasty emergency came into their hospital, they now dedicate their career to helping supernatural beings.

A human from a family of supernatural (either witches or werewolves), their powers never came through.

A human working in the local Caruso Casino, their time at the casino means they've been privy to supernatural dealings and they've seen things that normal humans can only dream of.

A human dealing in supernatural goods, trading magical items (and/or supernatural substances). It's not exactly legal and they operate from the Underbridge.

A human who's grown up in Hexmore and has always been obsessed with the locations that are hidden in Hexmore. They've always heard local stories and are determined to find out if they are true or not.

This does not need to get posted, but it is super disheartening to see the only real interactions on the dash thus far are several paragraph posts in what seems to be a ship. One scroll and a majority of the dash is that one single thread.

I'm  honestly  sorry  you  feel  that  way  nonnie  and ive been thinking about how to reply and thought about this as I looked through the dash and blogs of everyone in the rp but  I  also  have  to  be  honest  and  say  I  reply  with  what  I  can  get  .  watching  the  dash  and  monitoring  blogs  for  interest  check /  activity  check  since  we  opened  (  aside  from  yesterday  and  today  /  i  have  been  very  busy  )  its  disheartening  to  see  that  most  are  inactive  (  apart from  two  that  messaged  me  regarding  their  schedule  )  .  rp  is  a  group  effort  and  when  it  comes  to  interactions  I  believe  most  take  what  they  can  get  .  if  you're  active  or  put  out  a  starter  ,  you  will  get  replied  to  and  thus  far  there  have  only  been  4  starters  put  out  and  two  which  are  mine  have  not  been  replied  to .  I'm  trying  hard  to  keep  this  afloat  as  I  have  so  many  ideas  for  the  rp  but  if  people  aren't  active  (  because  personally  I  will  reply  to  any  and  every  starter  I  see  and  plot  with  you  )  , there's  only  so  much  I  can  do  .  this  isn't  just  my  group  .  it's  OUR  group  .  roleplaying  is  a  partnership and it goes both ways . mcflymemes pretty much sums up my thoughts in this situation   HERE  :  you  cannot  blame  other  people  for  your  own  inaction  .  you  can't  complain  on  the  dash  about  not  having  any  interactions  or  threads  when  you've  never  replied  to  all  the  plotting  messages  or  starters. ( especially when literally only 3 people have been active and those same 2/3 people are the only ones on the dash .... so of course , you are going to see the same two or three threads on the dash if they are the only ones active . ) don't mistake this as a demand for constant replies or a constant presence on the dash . I would never expect that because real life comes first . we all have jobs and life outside of this wonderful hobby but please at least put in the effort of replying to starters that have no threads or at least posting your own because i can guarantee you that the same 3 people active here including myself WILL reply and reach out and plot when you put out a plotting call .

we're   pretty   happy   with   our   selection   for   the   group   as   far   as   canon   options   go   !   we're   worried   that   too   many   fandoms   ,   and   too   many   mixed   lores   ,   would   become   too   confusing.   but   that   doesn't   mean   you   can't   make   an   oc   based   on   your   favorite   supernatural   or   teen   wolf   character   and   we   certainly   encourage   you   to   take   inspiration   from   those   characters   should   you   want   to.

You're right.. publish oc rpers are by far the WORSE people I've ever met as someone who writes on. I've experience cases where mutuals will outright ignore my post, but would won't do it to someone else who writes the same muse as me, and yet I shouldn't feel... dare I say; jealous or hurt, making me feel as though I bring nothing to the table and judging my writing base off of my disability, but you got them idiots writing in awful flowery and purple-pose. Smut looking like something out of 50 Shades Of Grey ass. At least I try! . And let me tell you something also. I had way more bad experience with canon writers than ocs. Makes you wonder to yourself.. is this so-call bad experience with ocs true or false? which brought the stigma against them? or all this time it was publish ocs before they were called 'CANON'. Yeaa I'm onto something. There's a lot of things that're being kept hidden or overexaggerated stories that people took and ran with it spreading fear mongering.

voodoo , witchcraft and the rpc

or  why you should think before including voodoo in your roleplay . ( this will contain discussions of slavery and racism , for my own comfort i will not be going into true detail of these and the other dark topics surrounded with the stereotypes )

now , i would like to preface this by saying i am not a practitioner or follower of the voodoo ( vodou but for the sake of this post we'll use voodoo ) religion , however i am black ( caribbean specifically ) and after seeing an uptick of voodoo in the rpc lately , it's occurred to me that this puts me in the position to say something . so lets get into it .

witches and magic have been a staple of both the horror and supernatural genres for years and voodoo has worked its way into the entertainment industry alongside this but lets get into what vodoo actually is : a religion with its own spiritual hierarchies , ritual ceremonies, customs and practises .

a closed religion at that .

unless you are invited into it , you can not and should not practise it . it was developed by african slaves - it's entire foundation incorporates blended religions , cultures and sufferings of african slaves . it's commonly known that enslaved people were separated from their religious and spiritual identities , the only way that this knowledge and religion still exists is from being passed down from generation to generation .

'what if my muse was invited into it?' in my opinion , you as a mun who has not been invited into this religion who does not practise it , can not fully understand the weight , traditions and complexities of it . even with research , you will be missing pieces of the information .

closed religion aside , lets now talk about the stereotypes surrounding voodoo and magic .

the term black magic was often used in regards to african spirituality and in media it's not uncommon to see voodoo be used and misrepresented as something backwards , perverse and downright evil . where does this come from ? well as simple as i can make it , it's racism . voodoo and hoodoo were used to further demonise black people , it gave us the reputation that we could enslave you , that we would take away your will and autonomy and force good innocent white people into doing things they didn't want to do ( ironic isn't it ) think of media such as ahs or even princess and the frog for modern examples of how this stereotype continues .

when portraying black witches who dabble in the stereotyped portrayal of 'voodoo' , or white characters with 'voodoo' superpowers it's important to be aware of the history and of the image you will be projecting with your character .

this is not to say you can't play black characters as witches or other magical species , but you can do so in a way that doesn't enforce damaging stereotypes and tropes . ( bonnie bennet from tvd is a witch the same as her many white counterparts , the most recent reboot of charmed features black female leads as powerful witches - although both of these are not perfect depictions )

tldr : this is no where as detailed as i wanted it to be as im saving my energy and i can't tell you what to do but voodoo is a closed religion that should not be used in roleplays as a source of magic or witchcraft . please respect it and it's roots . if you want to play a black character with magic , do so the same way you would their white counterparts but be aware of stereotypes ( particularly the magical n*gro stereotype )

as always im open to questions and comments on this . my knowledge is not absolute so i'm happy to amend things in this post . keep discussions civil and polite pretty please and remember that people of colour do not owe you education , especially at their own expense so be patient and listen .
