I’m finally watching the 1x07 of Doctor Odyssey and the way Avery looks at Captains Massey’s brother and his throuple? Cinematic masterpiece. You can see the gears turning in her head and her figuring out exactly what she wants. I was wondering why we only saw her meet Craig and it all makes sense now.

Doctor Odyssey 1.01

Spoiler free: ...that was it? I'd hear that they were being a bit cagey with the plot of the show and I figured it might be a tiny bit more AHS-Ryan Murphy than Glee-Ryan Murphy, but. No.

It felt to me that they're 100% banking on the audience being awed and envious with regards to the luxury cruise setting and charmed by Joshua Jackson, and that just does not work for me. The former because they elicit the opposite reaction in me, and the latter because I do think Jackson can be charming when he plays the underdog. It really doesn't come across the same way when he's playing a trust fund type.

So, this one is not for me.

I haven’t watched this weeks episode yet. But I did watch last week and my concern was Avery’s reaction post three-way.

My expectation of Avery was that she was going to have an attitude with them both afterwards because she tends to be flaky about what she wants and who she wants. So I was expecting her to have an attitude with both Tristan and Max afterwards.

However, if she is in fact on board to continue the three-way relationship, then cool. 

We should also probably acknowledge that:

The traveling gay couple are non-monogamous (they hooked up with at least two guys) and are still happily together at the end of the episode

The Captain’s brother has two boyfriends in a (presumably) closed triad and they are ALSO still happily together at the end of the episode

Avery acknowledges that polyamory can have multiple configurations including 4+

They actually say the word polyamory on the show and underscore that it’s a normal part of the human condition and that there is no reason to expect that one person should be required to fulfill all of your needs in a relationship.

Like. Leaving aside any relationship drama in the main cast, which is SUPPOSED to happen in an episodic dramedy series, the show actually did SHOCKINGLY well as a positive portrayal of polyamory.

people closing on ody3 and saying they “backtracked” from a possible throuple back to a love triangle… i’m laughing like that duck smoking gif… there’s no “backtracking” from that. that’s why they had the threesome already. something has fundamentally changed between the three of them and it will not be the same as it was in the first 5 episodes. the trajectories of their lives have been permanently altered and this is just the beginning of a slowburn. have patience.
