Tumblr media
The Importance of the Gold Coast for Turtles
The Gold Coast is renowned not just for its bustling urban lifestyle and tourism but also for its rich biodiversity. The turtles Gold Coast population depends heavily on the region’s warm waters, sandy beaches, and abundant seagrass beds. These conditions provide an ideal environment for feeding, breeding, and nesting.
Among the most common species found here are the green turtle and the loggerhead turtle. Both species have adapted to the Gold Coast's unique coastal environment and are vital to maintaining the health of the marine ecosystem. Their presence indicates a balanced aquatic habitat, where seagrasses and coral reefs flourish.
Nesting Habits and Conservation Efforts
One of the remarkable features of the turtles Gold Coast is their nesting behavior. Female turtles return to the same beaches where they were born, often traveling hundreds of kilometers, to lay their eggs. The Gold Coast’s sandy shores become nesting grounds from November through March, a critical period for these creatures.
Conservation initiatives along the Gold Coast aim to protect these nesting sites from threats such as coastal development, pollution, and human disturbance. Community awareness programs and protected zones have been established to minimize the impact on nesting turtles. These efforts help ensure that hatchlings can safely emerge and make their way to the ocean, sustaining the population for future generations.
Marine Ecosystem Role
Turtles play a pivotal role in the Gold Coast’s marine ecosystem. As herbivores, green turtles help maintain healthy seagrass beds by grazing, which prevents overgrowth and promotes biodiversity. Loggerhead turtles, on the other hand, contribute by controlling jellyfish populations and other marine life, supporting a balanced food chain.
The health of the turtles Gold Coast population directly correlates with the overall health of coastal waters. Protecting turtles means protecting the entire ecosystem, which benefits local fisheries, tourism, and community well-being.
Threats Facing Turtles on the Gold Coast
Despite their resilience, the turtles Gold Coast face several threats that jeopardize their survival. Habitat loss due to urbanization and beach erosion threatens nesting sites. Artificial lighting from beachfront properties can disorient hatchlings, leading them away from the sea. Additionally, marine pollution, including plastic debris and fishing nets, poses significant risks.
Climate change also influences the Gold Coast’s coastal environment, affecting sand temperatures at nesting sites, which can alter the sex ratio of hatchlings. Rising sea levels and increased storm frequency may further disrupt turtle habitats.
How to Support Turtles on the Gold Coast
Efforts to support the turtles Gold Coast population can take many forms. Respecting nesting areas by adhering to local guidelines during nesting season helps reduce human impact. Avoiding beach littering and participating in coastal clean-up activities can improve marine habitats.
Supporting conservation organizations focused on turtle protection provides resources for research and rehabilitation. Promoting sustainable tourism ensures that visitors enjoy the natural beauty of the Gold Coast without disturbing its wildlife.
Experiencing the Wonder of Gold Coast Turtles
Witnessing the life cycle of the turtles Gold Coast is a unique and inspiring experience. Many eco-tourism programs offer guided tours during nesting seasons, allowing visitors to observe these ancient reptiles responsibly. These encounters foster appreciation for the natural world and highlight the urgent need for ongoing conservation.
The turtles of the Gold Coast are more than just an attraction; they are a symbol of the delicate balance between humans and nature. Preserving their habitat ensures that future generations can marvel at these magnificent creatures thriving in one of Australia’s most stunning coastal regions.
In conclusion, the turtles Gold Coast represent a vital part of Australia’s marine biodiversity. Their continued survival depends on concerted conservation efforts and community support. The Gold Coast remains a beacon of hope for these majestic animals, showcasing the beauty and complexity of nature in one of the world's most cherished coastal environments.

What Should You Know About Interacting with Turtles on the Gold Coast?
The Gold Coast, known for its pristine beaches, lush hinterland, and vibrant marine life, is a popular destination for both locals and tourists. Among the most fascinating creatures that inhabit its waters are turtles. These ancient reptiles have become a key attraction for nature enthusiasts and eco-tourists alike. If you’re planning to interact with turtles on the Gold Coast, it’s essential to understand their behavior, the best practices for interacting with them, and the environmental significance of their presence.
Tumblr media
Understanding the Turtles of the Gold Coast
Turtles on the Gold Coast are an essential part of the region's marine ecosystem. The area is home to several species of sea turtles, with the most commonly spotted being the green sea turtle, loggerhead turtle, and hawksbill turtle. These turtles are typically found in the warm waters off the coast, where they feed, nest, and migrate.
Why Are Turtles Important to the Ecosystem?
Turtles play a crucial role in maintaining the health of marine ecosystems. They help keep jellyfish populations in check, control the growth of seagrass, and contribute to the overall balance of the underwater environment. The Gold Coast’s waters provide a safe haven for these marine reptiles, making it a key location for turtle conservation efforts.
Best Practices for Interacting with Turtles
When encountering turtles on the Gold Coast, it is essential to follow guidelines that ensure both your safety and the well-being of these remarkable creatures. Responsible interaction helps protect turtles from harm and ensures that future generations of these marine animals can thrive in their natural habitat.
1. Keep a Safe Distance
One of the most important rules when interacting with turtles is to maintain a safe and respectful distance. Turtles are wild animals and should not be approached closely. Keeping your distance ensures that they are not stressed or disturbed, which can negatively affect their behavior and health.
The recommended distance for observing turtles is at least 5-10 meters. This allows you to enjoy their presence without intruding on their space. Remember, a turtle’s natural behaviors should not be interrupted, whether they are feeding, resting, or swimming.
2. Do Not Touch or Disturb Turtles
While it may be tempting to touch or interact with a turtle, it is important to avoid direct contact. Turtles have sensitive skin and can be easily stressed by physical interaction. Touching or disturbing a turtle can disrupt its natural behavior and potentially cause harm. In some cases, human contact may even lead to injury or illness for the turtle.
3. Avoid Using Flash Photography
If you are lucky enough to encounter a turtle in its natural environment, be mindful of the type of photography you use. Flash photography can startle the turtle and may cause it to flee, which is not ideal for its well-being. Use natural lighting or turn off the flash to minimize stress on the animal.
4. Respect Nesting Sites
During the turtle nesting season, which typically occurs between November and March, it’s crucial to be especially mindful of nesting sites. Female turtles come ashore to lay their eggs on the beach, and their nests are highly vulnerable. Disturbing these nesting areas can be detrimental to both the adult turtles and their offspring.
If you find a nesting turtle, it is best to stay away from the area and avoid making any noise or movements that could disturb her. If you encounter a turtle nest, report the location to local authorities or conservation groups so that the nest can be properly monitored and protected.
5. Stay Calm and Observant
When in the presence of turtles, it is important to remain calm and avoid sudden movements. Turtles are sensitive to their environment and can easily be frightened. The best way to enjoy observing these beautiful creatures is to move slowly and quietly, allowing them to continue their natural behaviors undisturbed.
The Importance of Conservation Efforts
Turtles on the Gold Coast face numerous challenges, including habitat destruction, pollution, climate change, and accidental entanglement in fishing gear. As a result, many of these species are classified as endangered. Efforts to conserve turtle populations in the region are critical for their survival and the health of the marine environment.
Several organizations on the Gold Coast are dedicated to turtle conservation, working to protect nesting sites, raise awareness about responsible interactions, and conduct research on turtle populations. Participating in eco-tourism activities that support these conservation efforts can make a significant difference in ensuring the long-term protection of turtles.
What to Do If You Find a Turtle in Distress
While rare, you may come across a turtle that appears to be in distress. In such situations, it is crucial to act swiftly and responsibly. If you encounter an injured or stranded turtle, contact a local marine rescue organization immediately. They have the knowledge and resources to provide the necessary care and treatment for the turtle’s recovery.
It is never advisable to attempt to rescue a turtle on your own, as they require specialized care. Additionally, handling the turtle improperly can cause further harm. By reporting the incident to the appropriate authorities, you are helping to ensure that the turtle receives the best possible care.
Conclusion
Turtles on the Gold Coast are an iconic part of the region’s rich marine biodiversity. Interacting with these fascinating creatures can be a memorable and rewarding experience, but it is essential to do so responsibly. By following the guidelines for respectful observation, staying informed about the importance of conservation efforts, and acting quickly if you come across a turtle in distress, you can play a role in protecting these incredible marine animals for generations to come.
Whether you’re a local or a visitor, the Gold Coast offers a unique opportunity to observe sea turtles in their natural habitat. With the right knowledge and approach, you can enjoy these magnificent creatures while contributing to their preservation.

Note
can you do fireworks with...well I was going to way Gator but Steve also works if Gator is off the board.
Warnings: Language, friends to lovers, mentions of injury, Gator speaks a little rough towards reader, fluff, mentions masturbation, use of fireworks, alcohol, Gator being a dumb turtle boy, smut, and NSFW.
A/N: I had waaaaay too much fun with this one, so it’s obviously more than two paragraphs!
~*~
His headlights gave a too bright spotlight, causing him to trip over his own big ass feet, his zippo flying somewhere on the grass nearby. You snort at his antics, already flicking your bic to life and setting your sparkler ablaze. There’s an amber bottle of whiskey nearly gone, along with food wrappers and a blanket close by — courtesy of you, having stolen it off the end of Gator’s bed. You wave your stick around, dizzy off Jack Daniel’s and the buzz that being near your best-friend brings. Sharing one brain cell, the only person that can be around Gator Tillman full time (not without occasional headaches) — the town cannot separate you two. He drops to the ground, clearly irritated you got yours lit first.
“Hey,” you can’t help but to break in as he’s huffing between puffs on his vape, rifling through the grass with the other hand. He doesn’t look at you, but you continue. “Remember that time that you lit that fire rocket and accidentally sat on it? I swear I thought you broke your ass, man.”
Gator huffs in annoyance, clearly remembering what occurred just last year. You keep going. “I don’t know how you own a flame thrower and haven’t caught your junk or yourself on fire yet.”
“I am my junk, bitch!” He snaps, exasperated as you glares holes at you through the darkness.
The effects of heat coasting across the night breeze, crickets in the distance, and how the trees catch the rustling winds — it’s actually a nice ending to your day. You put your hands up, a snort leaving your mouth, especially right as you spot his lighter, reflected off his headlights. You motion to it with your sparkler, and he immediately grabs it, rolling his eyes. He paces a slight distance, he’s kneeling, his khaki camp tight across his legs, black shirt stretched over his biceps, tattoo on display. Your mouth waters, every imaginable scenario coming into play.
It’s not unusual to think about him this way. Hell, whenever you with someone else, it’s not their face that you see. Your best-friend has been at the end of every single orgasm you’ve had since meeting the shithead. You’re broken from your Gator-lusting reverie when his hand cracks the zippo to life, igniting the fireworks, crackling noises exploding and a fountain of colors explode into the air. Gator struts in front of them towards you in that way, hair strands blown into a disarray, hues of bright blues, golds, reds, pinks, and deep crimson lighting up the night sky behind him.
It’s a sight straight from a movie, and you don’t realize your sparkler has gone out. But it doesn’t matter, not as Gator clings to your energy and finds you chest to chest, tossing the stick from your hand. Your back is colliding with his truck in a vertigo-washed movement. He cradles your face, his breath soaked in jack, chew, and vape juice. It’s a big deal, but it’s also just two people meeting in ways that were always going to happen.
His nose bridge drags along your own as he pants the words across your mouth. “I’ve got rubbers in my glove box, babydoll. You gonna let me fuck you tonight? Teasing my cock so much, n’ you know it, too.”
“On the blanket…” you’re pawing at his shirt collar and he just shakes his head.
“Turn around and put your hands on my hood. You want me, you’re gonna take it the way that I give it to you.”
You’re immediately obeying, sky above faded out with streams of vibrant colors, smoke cloud wafting in this direction. He’s back after retrieving the items. It doesn’t take long…
~*~
He’d watched you touch yourself from behind, your jeans and thong on the ground below, as he slowly jerked himself off, enough until he’d achingly slid into the condom and spun you around. As much as he craved you in this position, he needed to see your face this first time, more than anything. He laid you upon the blanket, lifting your legs around his hips, and slid into you in one deep thrust, one you’d be feeling for days. You held tightly, groaning, whimpering pathetically into one another’s mouths. Your hands held a new, possessive purchase by digging into the plush of his bare ass, pushing him deeper.
He didn’t go home that night, and he didn’t take you home. But he did attempt to light another firework and you had driven him to the hospital to get his hand wrapped. Dumbass.

the year is 1827. twenty-seven-year-old raphael is on the run, wanted by the spanish monarchy for inciting rebellion in the spanish colonies. he ended up in texas where he found michelangelo, a twenty-five-year-old ex-mercenary cowboy planning to return east. the two meet at a saloon, drinking sarsaparilla together.
"i seen your poster 'round down south of the border they're buildin'. spanish king'd pay a pretty penny to have you behind bars."
"you haven't seen any thing like that."
"relax, i ain't doin' none of that no more, jus' wanna go east. i am beat from all the heat 'round here."
the two agree to travel together, since bandits in that area are dangerous to deal with alone. raph realises mikey is hella fantastic with a whip while mikey acknowledges raph is a hella good shot. raph prefers his knives though, it's easy to put the blade between his fingers, even if he runs the risk of cutting himself. the two travel from corpus christi to new orleans, resting in town for a little while.
after some time the two come across a former samurai, homeless and starving in the streets. they take him in, feed him and mend his garb. he carries a splintered bo staff and what little he has in a rucksack with a persistent frown on his face. twenty-six-year-old donatello expresses his gratitude by giving raph his unused sai and mikey an unused kusari-fundo because of his whipping skills. the three of them live in louisiana for a couple months, enjoying the bayou until raphael felt like he was being watched. there is still a price upon his head, the lingering worry deepening the stress lines on his forehead. the three manage to board on a boat headed to new york. mikey and raph leave their horses with a free woman, april and her friend casey, who plan to travel on land masquerading as a slave owner with his slave. those two plan on meeting with casey's cousin, cassandra, moving in the lower east side to keep her company.
the three turtles board a ship with an annoying stock boy and a crew of rogues who call themselves the purple dragons. as much as the three avoid these bothersome pains in their necks, they always meet with the stock boy when they need food. they always cross paths with the purple dragons when they need to get to starboard for fresh air. a few months of enduring these bullies and their luck got worse once the ship was rounding the coast of the tip of florida. a crew of pirates came across their ship and donatello was sick of it, fighting the pirates off after they threw stock boy and the dragons overboard.
twenty-six-year-old co-captain leonardo and donatello hamato were at a stalemate at port, raphael was held back by capitán piel and michelangelo pinned señor hueso down at starboard.
"aye, swift with your staff, hm ?"
"your blades are faulty, marauder !"
leo quirks an eyebrow and drops his swords, raising his arms in surrender with a smug look.
"let's strike a deal, fox-eye."
the co-captain gives piel a look and he lets go of raph, then mikey gets off of hueso, who stands and glares at him. donnie quirks an eyebrow and stands with his staff on the plank his feet are planted upon, waiting for leo to continue.
"my blades are faulty to you ? what do you know about blades ?"
"usually concerns for pirateers like you are gold and jewels."
"answer me or you'll have the shogun to answer to."
donatello stills and drops his staff, lifting his hands up.
"if you would allow me to reach for my family blades ?"
leonardo watches carefully as donatello unsheathes his twin odachi, carefully resting them upon his hands and holding them up with a bowed head. the pirate drops his swords, reaching for the presented blades.
"i have given you the last of my metallic weapons. now please leave my brothers and i alone."
mikey and raph were surprised to hear donatello refer to them as his brothers, but they connected the dots quickly and kept their smiles to themselves. leo observed the odachi in his hands and gave them a test swing, grinning to himself from how easy his technique came to him. he looked up at donatello, the samurai's head still low.
"aye, look at me."
donnie listened, a glint shining in his eyes as he blinked up at leo.
"you best be ready for another lad to join your family, because i am right here."
raph, mikey, and donnie join the crew of leo's ship. while capitán piel is the true captain of the ship, he lets leo lead pillages for fun. definitely not for the fact that the kid has a natural talent for leadership, he just had to learn the hard way how to watch for his crew. unfortunately, leo couldn't acknowledge the fact that a pirate crew is not expendable. señor hueso thinks the only reason why he and his brother are the last ones alive from the original crew is because they're the ones still truly in charge. the turn of events for leo to adopt three strangers from different corners of the world as family all of a sudden had them questioning his motives.
the ship manages to arrive in virginia for a break, which is where the four crew turtles decided to watch big mama's travelling circus. piel and hueso got to stocking up for food and supplies in the market. so the brothers saw the leading act in said circus was a lean middle aged man, going by the stage name lou jitsu. donnie recognised he was a martial artist by the way he moved, fighting all the big burly men ringleader mama pitted against him, but mikey could tell by the strained look on his face that he was tired.
lou jitsu was exhausted, he had been fighting for big mama's circus for over a decade. he was once part of a prominent family in japan until he ran away against his grandfather's wishes, travelling the new world as an actor until he ran out of money. he managed to stay with a witch doctor in louisiana, baron draxum. the yokai bewitched lou jitsu body and soul, granting him more money and fame... but at a price. lou jitsu started acting and travelling again, even going back to japan. unfortunately, four of his lovers bore children draxum cursed to be half-turtle half-man. lou had some idea, because he occasionally received letters from them believing them to be fans who wanted to bear his children.
raphael's mother in south america raised him despite ridicule from the townsfolk. leonardo's mother abandoned him and sr. hueso was the one who took him in and he and capitán piel raised leo as their own little brother. donatello's mother tried hard to keep him hidden until samurai raided her home and took him away to be raised by a high status family instead. they thought of him as their good fortune. michelangelo's mother had to sell him to some farmhands, so he grew up tending to livestock and keeping them together in one spot.
once lou jitsu spots the four turtles in the audience he experienced a transformation like no other, the dormant part of the curse draxum put on him taking place. he quit on big mama, leaving the circus to join the turtles.
"surely... you can give me a chance to be in your lives... ?"
the turtles hesitantly agreed and the group went back to the boat to escape big mama, leaving the harbour to get to new york. the crew arrives and they meet casey and april in the harbour, mikey and raph glad to see their horses again.
the ragtag group of raph the spanish revolutionary, leo the pirate, donnie the former samurai, mikey the cowboy, and lou jitsu the ex circus performer settle in the greatest city in the world– shenanigans ensue !

Battle of the Ships
Round 3 Part 1 Poll 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda under the cut
Lookfar :
This legend of a boat has seen through painted eyes:
- Selidor, the last island of the world
- The great dragon Orm Embar, descendant of Orm who slew and was slain by the hero Erreth-Akbe
- The Dragons' Run, which has been sailed by no other boat still extant
- The first great feat of the Archmage Ged who was the greatest wizard of his time
- The Ring of Erreth-Akbe's return to the fair towers of Havnor Great Port, reuniting at last the two halves of the forgotten Rune of Peace.
- Kalessin, the eldest dragon, who may be Segoy who raised up all the islands of the world and said the Word of Making
- And probably a whole load of other stuff that didn't get shown in the books
So what I'm trying to say here is that Lookfar is ICONIC. If you want a reliable boat you want Lookfar. She's nimble. She's fast. She's easy to handle. When the archmage of a world where every land mass is a small to medium sized island decides you're his boat of choice you are a top tier boat. 10/10.
Balleater :
During the time when Orly was the Balleater's acting captain he aimed to turn the ship's use to more legitimate trade rather than illicit piracy. In just a few months, the crew did enough business along the Menagerie Coast that the Mighty Nein's split of the earnings was 1,312 gold.
On the way to the island of Rumblecusp, the ship was attacked by a dragon turtle, who was seeking treasure. The crew was able to momentarily fend off the dragon turtle, and made their way to Rumblecusp, though the dragon turtle made chase. Upon reaching the island, the crew disembarked. The following day, the dragon turtle (by then nicknamed "Dieter") attacked the Balleater, destroying it.
Considering that Dieter waited until the ship was "docked" and unmanned for him to attack and destroy the Balleater after The Nein were able to fend off his attacks goes to show the prowess of both The Mighty Nein and the Balleater.
The Balleater is in my opinion, the most memorable/notable of the ships that The Mighty Nein have been in possession of and I just think it's really cool.

Dragon turtles were aquatic creatures that were related to dragons. They were considered among the most dangerous aquatic creatures in existence and were even worshiped by some.
Dragon turtles were distantly related to dragons and had dragon blood. They appeared as huge turtle-like creatures with a long tail and neck with large, taloned flippers. Their heads had a golden crest down the center.
The scales of a dragon turtle were generally smooth, but overtime becoming more coarse until finally being molted. By that time the scales had lost much of their durability.
The shell of a dragon turtle measured between 15 to 25 feet (4.6 to 7.6 meters) in diameter and was strong enough to leave it almost impossible to harm. The shells were streamlined with jagged protrusions. The shell was often a shade of deep green, similar to the color of the ocean, with silver highlights running along the raised areas. This meant that a surfacing dragon turtle was often mistaken for light reflecting on the water.
Due to the shell's immense strength, shields made from dragon turtle shells were exceptionally tough and had resistance to heat or steam attacks. Their shells were also valued for use as book covers, jewelry, spell components, furniture, or as a building material.
Dragon turtles were aggressive and solitary creatures who would attack any ships and other dragon turtles that entered their territory. Like true dragons, dragon turtles were obsessed with gold and treasure. They often attacked ships in order to loot the treasure. After sifting through the wreckage, the creatures would carry the valuables back to their lair in their mouths. Sailors wishing to pass through the territory of a dragon turtle found that the creatures were intelligent enough to accept bribes or tributes. Sometimes turtle dragons could even be bribed to fight for others, notably working with sahuagin raiders or powerful marids. Some dragon turtles could even master powers of sorcery. Dragon turtle sorcerers were rumored to guard farm caverns in the Undermountain.
When in combat, dragon turtles would use their massive bulk to slam into enemies. Dragon turtles were capable of capsizing even large vessels. Dragon turtles could also expel a blast of scalding steam from their mouths.
A dragon turtle guarded a vast territory that could expand up to 50 square miles (130 square kilometers). Other dragon turtles were only permitted to enter the territory of another during mating season. Dragon turtles lived in vast caves under the seafloor or hidden in coral reefs. These lairs were used to store their treasure hoards.
Dragon turtles were carnivorous and would eat almost anything in order to satisfy their appetite, even other dragon turtles. If food was in particularly short supply, dragon turtles were known to hunt sea birds using their steam breath attack.
Dragon turtles generally spoke Aquan, Draconic, and sometimes Common. In addition to Draconic, dragon turtles had their own racial language.
High quality dragon turtle scales, those which had not been naturally molted, were highly valued for the production of armor that was both durable and flexible.
As of 1358 DR, a dragon turtle had been floating off the coast of T'u Lung for 20 years. The creature was immense even by dragon turtle standards and was often mistaken for an island. Due to its immense size, it did not see ships as a threat, and when disturbed, it simply left for a better spot to rest.
In 1369 DR, the corpse of a young dragon turtle washed up on the shore of the Deepwash. The body attracted scavengers and spoiled fishing in the Deepwash for months. The juvenile was killed by another far older and larger dragon turtle whose territory spanned most of the deepwash.
In 1371 DR, a Red Wizard Brazhal Kos developed a successful method of enslaving dragon turtles that were inhabiting Lake Thaylambar in large numbers. Thay was trying to cull the dragon turtle population for years before and after the story of Brazhal's successes spread. The number of hunters on the lake increased dramatically after that, even though many of them died in the process. The number of aspiring fishers remained high for a few years that followed. The fishermen could easily be spotted by their unusual gear, nets, and huge hooks, big enough to catch a dragon turtle.
In 1372 DR, it was rumored that the harbormaster of Port Nyanzaru paid tribute to a dragon turtle to keep all other sea monsters away.
In 1487 DR, Nanna-Sin was resurrected and took the form of a dragon turtle. He then went to protect Djerad Kethendi against the forces of Unther.

deep dive - the beach
requested by anonymous
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"the beach" is the 26th episode of season one, and introduces a lovely new location for the heelers to explore. it's never specified where along the gold coast this beach is, but probably somewhere like warana beach, which is about an hour's drive from brisbane and the perfect distance for a day trip. this one is a bit long, so i'll put the rest of the post underneath a read more.
Tumblr media
a couple years ago a coastal pathway project began, in order to promote walking and biking through the scrub and wetlands along the beach. the project also addresses the prevalence of invasive species and aims to restore native vegetation. but enough about that, let's get into the bush!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
an establishing shot gives a nice overview of the beach, which sits between a residential wooded area and the edge of the coral sea. what looks like a tuckeroo is visible in the foreground, a native australian tree that doesn't mind coastal conditions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
after the heelers spend some time enjoying the sand, we get a shot of an osprey, a common sight anywhere by water in australia and across the americas. these raptors are incredible anglers, with a recorded success rate of 70 percent! there are four subspecies of osprey, and the eastern osprey, the only one found in australia, is the smallest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
on the beach, bluey finds the shell of a tiger cowrie, a beautiful variety of marine snail that is prevalent across the indo-pacific region. the striking appearance of their shells has made them popular among shell collectors, although their numbers have suffered as a result.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
bluey also encounters a flock of silver gulls. like other sea gulls, these birds are very successful scavengers, and often have no issues going up to humans for handouts. you can find these guys pretty much anywhere near water in australia and new zealand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's an interesting one! this is a pipi, a type of saltwater clam. they've been a source of protein by the native ngarriindjeri people for thousands of years, but are mostly used as bait for commercial fishing. they use their strong "foot" muscle to burrow into the sand. as filter feeders, they take in large amounts of water to suck up plankton. afterwards, the water needs to expelled, like the one bluey found is doing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
bluey also runs away from a consortium of light-blue solider crabs. unlike how they're animated in the show, this species is one of the few crabs that has evolved to walk forwards, not sideways. the males form large "armies" during low tide, similar to the group in the episode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
next, bluey encounters a moon jelly, a type of jellyfish identifiable by its large translucent bell and short tentacles. these jellies do have a sting (bluey does the right thing by approaching it with caution, as you should with any wild animal!), but it only causes very mild irritation in humans. moon jellies are the favorite food of many turtle species. since they look similar, moon jelly-loving turtles will often swallow plastic bags.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
last but not least, a bird that's even bigger than bluey! this is an australian pelican, which hold the record for the longest bill of any bird. they use their beaks to scoop up fish and other animals like a fishing net. you can find them in every state of australia.
Tumblr media
that's it! hope you enjoyed this first foray going into a whole episode. many thanks to the bluey wiki for this one, who have catalogued quite a lot of the animals in the show already.

A tale of love, lust, & crime!
I’ve had this rattling around in my head for a while 💋
Thank you to my girl @remotewatch for playing editor this time! 🌹
Beverly Hills, 1971
Lieutenant Amato had been in the homicide department a long time. Eighteen years, to be exact- he’d questioned his fair share of widows. There was no doubt in his mind that Sabrina Van Ecken, the thirty-one year old housewife who was serving him fresh lemonade in her garden less than 48 hours after highway patrol found her husband belly up in the Pacific, was suspicious. But goddamnit, she was charming.
“These are heirloom roses, they’re much more fragrant than your modern varietal,” she chirped, handing him an iced drinking glass and a digestive biscuit. “You’re more than welcome to take some for your wife. How long did you say you had been married?”
Amato pushed up a grubby, coffee stained sleeve and accepted the treats. “It’s our silver anniversary this weekend.” He grunted.
“How grand!” Sabrina’s gold bracelets jingled like little bells as she clasped her hands together with glee. Then with an utmost seriousness, she removed her oversized sunglasses and looked him directly in the eye. “Lieutenant, I’m going to be straight with you. I’m glad Todd’s dead. But I didn’t kill him.
How brazen! Amato nearly choked on his biscuit. He dabbed the corner of his mouth with a nearby doily and composed himself. “That’s quite a statement, Mrs. Van Ecken.”
The young widow nodded and gingerly tucked some glossy strands of dark hair behind her ears., “I loved him in my own way you see. He wasn’t cruel or violent. But- and I’m sorry to speak ill of the dead so quickly- he was an ignoramus.”
“An ignoramus, miss?”
“Yes you know the type- doesn’t vote, leaves the toilet seat up, thinks Julia Child’s recipes are too exotic, that sort of thing.”
“I see.” Amato replied, thankful that years on the force had trained him to keep his cool even under strange circumstances like this one. “Do you know anyone who would want to kill him?”
“Oh plenty. Todd had a lot of enemies.” She nodded matter of factly, “His investor that he pantsed at a company meeting, all the country club caddies, servers he never tipped, I could go on. I don’t know what I expected, marrying into oil money.”
Amato scribbled furiously on his notepad. “What about his business partner that moved in recently? Jonathan Mollier?”
“Jonathan?” Sabrina’s expression softened “they had a complicated relationship as well. But it worked somehow. I can say with certainty, lieutenant, that if Todd had lived we would have stayed married and Jonathan would have been in business with him forever. Now that he’s gone… god rest his soul… we’ve both got a new lease on life.
“There has been talk of you two spending a lot of time together.” The lieutenant broached, raising his eyebrows. Sabrina just smiled.
“And they’re right! Jonathan has been helping me with the orphaned sea turtles foundation that I made through the company. Todd never was one for philanthropy, you see.” She took a long sip of lemonade. “Correct me if I’m wrong, but accidental death hasn’t been ruled out yet, has it?”
“It has not. As I’m sure you’re aware, your husband had enough DUIs that we are seriously considering that angle… by the way, is Jonathan Mollier from THE Mollier family? The ones on the east coast?”
“That’s correct. You’re a sharp one, lieutenant! I’d say you should question him too but he just went out paddle boarding. Perhaps you could come back later this week. I can arrange for some flowers to be made into a bouquet for your wife as well…”
⛵️⛵️🍒🍒🍒⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️🍒🍒☀️☀️☀️☀️
Lieutenant Amato left with a box of biscuits, a carafe of lemonade, and a spring in his step. Gosh, if only someone had told Sabrina in her younger years that manipulating the police was so simple! She might have had a glamorous stint as a cat burglar on the French Riviera in another life.
“He’s gone?” Jonathan Mollier, fresh off the paddle board in an unzipped wetsuit trotted towards the rose garden where Sabrina was waiting for him, arms outstretched.
“Yes,” Sabrina beamed, “I made him my famous lemonade.”
“Excellent, my love. The sooner we can get them to rule it an accidental death, the sooner we can leave town.”
🌺🌺🌺🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
Beverly Hills, 1971, two months earlier
If you’d asked Jonathan Mollier as an expat what it would take to get him back to the states, Todd Van Ecken would not have been on the list. In fact, when he’d met up with his former roommate during his last trip to New York, Todd proposing they go into business together initially came off as one of his infamous pranks. Until he started listing off facts, figures, and lucrative stock options. Todd even said that Jonathan could continue working in Japan from time to time, although he did want him to be primarily based in Beverly Hills with him. Jonathan, who had admittedly been feeling rather unmoored abroad since the birth of his sister’s second child and the passing of his beloved uncle, saw no better reason to return. California for a business venture- the perfect mix of new opportunities and old stomping grounds. When Todd picked him up from LAX Jonathan felt light and open, although that may have been partly due to the qualuudes his doctor had prescribed for the international flight. Even Todd’s erratic driving and excessive application of Old Spice while en route to his Beverly Hills mansion seemed charming rather than tiresome.
“So you’ll be in the guest suite on the west wing,” Todd said, flicking a cigarette butt out the window of his Jaguar Roadster “it ain’t the Ritz or anything but it should be roomy enough for those funky surf boards of yours”
“Paddle boards..” Jonathan corrected as he gently dusted stray ashes that had fallen onto his new YSL sport coat, “thanks again for letting me crash with you for a bit. I know nothing about California real estate.”
“Sure thing, you’re saving my ass here. Using my folks oil seismographs for consumer electronics was all fun and games until I realized I needed someone who actually understood the technology.”
“Oil man turned calculator entrepreneur is certainly a leap.” He agreed. “But if I learned anything at Toshiba, it’s that there’s a massive demand for chip tech. Anyway, I swear I’ll be out of your hair soon enough.”
“Don’t worry about it. Sabrina’s excited to have someone else in the house anyway.”
“Sabrina?”
“Yeah, Sabrina. My wife, ya dill weed.” Todd laughed. “You would’ve known that if you came to the wedding instead of sleeping on the floor in Japan or whatever it is you do over there. We’ve been married six years now.”
So it was the same girl. Todd had caused quite a stir amongst their old Yale classmates when he married a girl he’d met in Vegas less than a month after meeting her. It was rumored to be a shotgun wedding and when a baby never arrived it caused even more of a scandal.
“The ADPhi brothers and their wives still avoid her like the plague for god knows what reason” Todd continued, seemingly predicting his reaction. “Kinda bullshit, if you’ll pardon my French. I mean, what qualifications does a wife need, right? But she’s a sweet girl, you’ll like her. You both care about animals, believe it or not! Although I’ll tell ya, she’s been on my ass lately about getting a dog. She won’t shut up about it! But I told her, ‘no way Jose I don’t want those mongrels in the house’. I mean really! You’ll back me up on that, won’t you Jonathan?”
Jonathan rolled his eyes; the qualuudes hadn’t worn off, but Todd’s charm was waning to say the least. He gave a noncommittal “Mmhhmm” before drifting off to sleep as Todd continued to yap his way through the roads of Los Angeles county.
♥️♥️♥️♥️⛵️⛵️⛵️🌺🌺🌺🌺🍾🍾🍾
The Van Eckens tried out a few rental properties before committing to buy when they’d settled in Los Angeles. First it was a high rise on Wilshire Boulevard, but the lack of greenery made them both stir crazy. Then it was a Pierre Koenig house in the Hollywood Hills, which to this day Sabrina maintained was stunning, but Todd was disturbed by the amount of right angles. Eventually they settled on a neo colonial style mansion with a rounded balcony, lush landscaping, and easy access to the ocean. When Jonathan exited the Roadster, the bracing sea breeze felt like a shot of espresso.
He’d packed modestly for his flight- just a trusty Hartman suitcase and the treasured attaché that belonged to his late uncle. Most of his belongings were set to arrive tomorrow morning. Jonathan took it upon himself to unpack and freshen up when he and Todd entered the house with no Sabrina in sight.
“She’s around, I’ll find her.” Todd shrugged. “Your room is up the stairs, second door to the left if you wanna get settled. The phone in there isn’t connected yet but we’ve got another in the kitchen. Holler if you need anything.”
Getting his belongings in order didn’t take long at all, but putting his to-do list together was another matter. He needed to call his folks now that he was back in the states; they’d be at the Martha’s Vineyard house this time of year. Then there was renewing his driver’s license, touching base with investors, replacing his shoehorn that broke in transit to California… It was dizzying. Oh, how he longed to take an impromptu dip in the ocean and forget all his responsibilities! Luckily the sun had begun to set, so kicking back in the leather Marsala lounge chair setup and turning on some music seemed like a completely reasonable course of action. Jonathan even indulged in one of the pastel mints that had been artfully composed on top of his flanged pillow, like icing on a lambeth cake. There was a stationary card too, featuring a message written in big loopy script.
Welcome back, Jonathan!
Below the message there was a drawing that could only be Todd’s contribution; a rendering of the Hanna Barbera character Hong Kong Phooey breaking a cinder block, with a word bubble above the cartoon dog’s head.
It’s about damn time! Hi-ya!
Jonathan politely folded the card stock in half so that only the first message was visible.
As he began to fiddle with the radio controls, he could vaguely make out a woman’s voice chatting with Todd downstairs followed by the sound of agile footsteps pattering up the staircase and an airy “I’ll be down in a jiffy!”
Jonathan, who was in no rush himself, settled on the USC radio station before strolling to the bay window, surveying his new digs. The rose gardens in the back of the house were even more stunning than the impeccably trimmed boxwoods in the front landscaping. He was thrilled to see there was a slight view of the ocean in his room, albeit partially obscured by what appeared to be the master suite. Man, those California sunsets really were something. Cotton Candy clouds dotted the sky as gold light flooded into his room, and for a moment, Jonathan felt an all consuming wave of calm wash over him. So much so that he almost missed the leggy brunette in tennis whites dash into the master suit and beeline for the closet, disappearing behind a buttery yellow curtain… the elusive lady of the house!
She does, indeed, change in a jiffy. Not even a minute goes by before Mrs. Van Ecken comes out clad in a Pucci mini dress and twirls happily in front of her vanity mirror, mane of dark hair bouncing around. Jonathan was transfixed. But, as she began to tie a matching scarf into her hair she paused, frowning.
What could be troubling such an exquisite creature?
Not even a nanosecond later, she darted back behind the curtain only to return in a plain, wool shift dress. She stared blankly into the mirror, arms akimbo, before throwing them up in frustration and retreating into her sartorial lab. It was almost comically in tune with the frenetic Beatles song blaring on the radio.
Ah, she's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
She's got a ticket to ride
But she don't care
The third time she emerges she’s in a fluffy pink bathrobe carrying an armful of options that were still on their hangers. A boho printed maxi dress? No. A frilly, wide collared babydoll frock? No. A slick ivory jumpsuit? No, no, NO. Each contender was held up to the mirror and discarded with increasing force while Paul, John, Ringo and George descended into musical cacophony.
My baby don't care, my baby don't care
My baby don't care, my baby don't care
My baby don't care, my baby don't care
This is when she sees Jonathan, who realized that he had gone from mild observation to fully studying the scene before him with rapt attention. Surely the long flight was to blame for him forgetting his manners? How uncouth of him! He scurries to the bay window drapery and quickly mouths “Sorry” to her, hoping the blush flooding his cheeks isn’t visible across the way.
She just smiles and gives a little wave as she mouths back “It’s ok!”
Jonathan nodded awkwardly, still flustered, and closed the drapes. He threw on a fresh cashmere polo and smoking slippers before heading downstairs. Given the time difference his parents would likely be in bed already, but maybe he could ring one of his sisters before dinner.

What Role Do Turtles Play in the Gold Coast Marine Ecosystem?
The vibrant and diverse marine life of Australia’s east coast is one of the nation’s most treasured natural assets. Among the many species that inhabit these waters, turtles Gold Coast are particularly significant. These ancient mariners not only captivate with their grace and resilience but also play a crucial ecological role in maintaining the balance of the marine ecosystem.
Tumblr media
Understanding the Presence of Turtles on the Gold Coast
The turtles Gold Coast region hosts are predominantly sea turtles, including species such as the green turtle (Chelonia mydas), loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta), and hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata). These turtles are frequently seen in coastal waters, particularly near seagrass beds, coral reefs, and estuarine habitats which offer abundant food and nesting opportunities.
Their migratory behavior connects different marine environments, from the Great Barrier Reef to the subtropical shores of the Gold Coast, forming an intricate part of Australia’s marine biodiversity.
Ecological Importance of Turtles in the Marine Ecosystem
1. Seagrass Bed Maintenance
One of the primary roles turtles Gold Coast play is the maintenance of healthy seagrass beds. Green turtles, in particular, graze on seagrass, preventing overgrowth and promoting new, nutrient-rich growth. This behavior keeps the seagrass ecosystem dynamic, enhancing its productivity and supporting a wide range of marine life including fish, crustaceans, and invertebrates.
2. Coral Reef Health
Some species of sea turtles feed on sponges and other invertebrates that compete with corals for space. By doing so, turtles Gold Coast help maintain a balance that favors coral growth, aiding in the resilience of reef ecosystems. This contributes directly to the ecological health of coral reefs, which are essential for biodiversity and coastal protection.
3. Nutrient Cycling
Through their feeding and nesting activities, turtles contribute to nutrient cycling between marine and beach environments. As turtles travel between feeding grounds and nesting beaches, they transport nutrients from the ocean to land. Their unhatched eggs and hatchling mortality provide vital nutrients for dune vegetation, which in turn stabilizes the coastline and prevents erosion.
Threats Facing Turtles in the Gold Coast Region
Despite their ecological significance, turtles Gold Coast face a range of threats that jeopardize their survival. Coastal development, light pollution, marine debris (especially plastic), and accidental capture in fishing gear are among the most pressing issues. Habitat degradation and climate change also pose long-term risks, particularly through rising sea levels and increased temperatures affecting nesting sites.
Conservation efforts and marine protected areas are critical to mitigate these threats and ensure that sea turtles continue to thrive and perform their roles in the ecosystem.
Turtles as Environmental Indicators
The health of turtles Gold Coast is a strong indicator of the broader marine ecosystem's condition. A thriving turtle population typically reflects healthy seagrass meadows, robust coral reefs, and low pollution levels. Conversely, declining turtle numbers can signal environmental degradation, prompting the need for immediate conservation action.
Conservation and Community Awareness
Education and community engagement are key in protecting turtles Gold Coast. Local initiatives often focus on protecting nesting beaches, reducing plastic waste, and monitoring turtle movements. These programs aim to foster a deeper understanding of the essential roles turtles play in marine health and biodiversity.
Encouraging responsible coastal tourism and supporting conservation organizations are vital steps in ensuring that these majestic creatures continue to grace Gold Coast waters for generations to come.
Conclusion
Turtles Gold Coast are far more than just a charming presence in the ocean; they are ecosystem engineers, playing vital roles in maintaining the balance and productivity of marine habitats. Their existence supports diverse marine life, contributes to healthy reefs and seagrass beds, and serves as a key indicator of ocean health. Protecting turtles is not merely a conservation goal but a necessity for preserving the ecological integrity of the Gold Coast’s marine environment.
Through informed action and sustained efforts, it is possible to ensure that sea turtles remain a thriving and integral part of Australia’s coastal legacy.

I had a really lovely trip to Springbrook for two days recently with some of my best friends 🥰 I love Springbrook so much! We stayed at the Mouse's House, a place with cabins that look like they belong in a rainforest fairytale ❤
We did the Twin Falls hike, which was so beautiful. I had a little swim at the bottom of the falls, because the water looked so nice!! But it was freezing. Once the water was up to my ribs I was like, I need to get out, my hands are going numb 😭 but it was special to have a swim anyway! There was a rainbow at the bottom of the falls, which was so magical 🌈
While we were at Springbrook, we also got to cook lovely food, see some of the lookouts at night (the Gold Coast looked so glittery), and swim in the Mouses House spa. And on the way back we visited the River Mill where we got to feed deer and turtles, and we ate the best vegan Japanese food at Izakaya Midori 🥰 ....sadly I got sick with covid as soon as I got back though, so that's not fun 😭

Riding the Wave of Ocean Heroes: Conservation & Sustainability
Hello lovelies ໒꒰ྀི´ ˘ ` ꒱ྀིა I hope you've been doing great since the last entry hehe. I just wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your ongoing support and interaction with my weekly updates. This post will be my last (at least for a while). I really hope you've managed to pick up a thing or two from my blog. Thank you for being here, and I appreciate all of you (づ๑•ᴗ•๑)づ♡
Now, let's dive into something super cool today – marine conservation and how we can be kinder to our oceans.
Tumblr media
Did you know? Around half of the world's population lives within 100 kilometers of the coast. That's a lot of people living near the sea, right?
Coastal places by the sea are like gold mines for our planet. They help out the global economy, and they do some pretty amazing stuff, like storing carbon (which is great for the environment), protecting our shores, and providing us with yummy food (Mcleod et al. 2011; Barbier et al. 2011).
You see, more than 775 million people really rely on the sea and its coastal wonders (Selig et al. 2018). For example, fish is a big deal, giving about 3.2 billion people some of their protein. It's even more crucial in places where people are still developing their countries (FOA 2018). Plus, it's not just food; it's like a vitamin boost in your meal. And, tons of people make a living out of fishing and farming seafood, almost 57 million of them! (FOA 2018).
Now, when we talk about tropical spots near the sea, they're like treasure chests. There are amazing places like coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrasses that are teeming with life, and they help out our planet in so many ways. That's why a bunch of groups and campaigns are working hard to keep these places safe and sound.
Let's focus into how people in Malaysia are doing for a sec. Here are some rock stars doing their part to save these coastal wonders:
ICRI (International Coral Reef Initiative) Malaysia: These people are all about creating safe spaces in the sea for our underwater buddies to thrive. Right now, only 1.4% of Malaysia's waters are protected. They're on a mission to change that!
The Dugong & Seagrass Conservation Project: This one's all about saving dugongs (those adorable sea cows) and the seagrass they munch on in the Bay of Brunei, Lawas, Sarawak East Malaysia. It's a big deal because these seagrasses need some protection from overfishing and other stuff that could hurt them. The locals are getting in on the action too.
Tropical Research and Conservation Centre: These ocean heroes are based in the Celebes Sea, and they're all about saving sea turtles and fixing up coral reefs that got bashed up by fish bombing practices in Malaysia. They're on a mission to keep our underwater world vibrant and healthy.
So, there you have it! These incredible peeps are working hard to make sure our oceans stay awesome. It's all about taking big steps and little steps, but together, we can keep those secret underwater gardens thriving 🌊⋆。°்⋆

Author's note: One of my all-time favorite YouTube channels recently released a new video that I believe is absolutely worth your time. His videos are like compelling stories paired with stunning cinematography. In this latest video, he highlights the alarming issue of the world's coral reefs deteriorating. It's crucial to shed light on real-world issues that are overlooked.
