Week 37
Guys, summer camps start literally next week, and I am so not ready. Neither emotionally nor practically. Get me off this laptop and make me do some work. (Technically I have work to do on this laptop....)
But really, preparations are in full aray. I have done most of the samples for my workshops, poured over my hour plan and done lots of prep for when the internationals arrive.
Moni and I have sorted through all the materials that we need, and I pray to god and everyone else, that I have everything we need. And that the workshops will go smoothly, and that the kids will like them, and that I timed them correctly.... I can already see my whole plan falling apart like a house of cards on the first day.
I took a break from such troubles over the weekend, when I went to Helsinki. I briefly visited the World-Village-Festival and then met up with Anna, Suski and Mirjam to go hiking. At first the trip didnt seem to start so well, with hangovers and missed busses, but we got to Nuuksio, a small Nationalpark near Espoo, alright and started walking. After a brief misdirection, we also started walking in the right direction... The weather was nice, warm, but not hot, and cloudy. There were few mosquitoes, unimpressed by my anti-mosquito-spray as usually, but all in all it was good. The park itself is gorgeous, spiked with lakes and swamps and islands... I didnt use my phone to take pictures (saving battery), but I hope Mirjam will send me some.
But there were so many people on their way, it was crazy. The first two spots, where we originally wanted to stay, were taken, so we had to keep walking until we found something. We stayed up on a cliff, on a nice, even spot, but far away from water. There was a fire place (with roof!), woods and the fire was already going when we came, so no need to make any. Also in walking distance was the trash point and toilets with running water - pure luxury, but I enjoyed not having to wash dishes in the lake.
Food was fantastic, though we predictably brought far too much. Since there were so many people all around, we went to sleep quite quickly actually. Mirjam and I shared my 1-person-tent, but it worked out well.
Then on the next day we made our way to some other place to have lunch, and then turned around and walked back to our starting point, to be picked up by Suskis boyfriend. All in all we walked about 20km.
It was a great trip, I have really missed staying in the forest. I was a little stressed out by how many people there were, but Nuuksio is just too close to Helsinki and too accessible to be a getaway.
Now all the work is catching up with me. I have so much anxiety regarding the summer camps, its stressing me out. I hope I am just over-compensating, and it will be a great four weeks. Hope, but dont believe. (Please prove me wrong, universe!)
I am not sure how evenly I will be able to update after this week, since I will be away with no internet for long stretches of time. I hope you all enjoy your summer, and wish me luck!
Terveisin,
Lisa

Week 36
So, its summer. Proper, 23°C summer. With sunshine. I am amazed every day.
Last week I continued in youth work and summer camp preparation. The youth centers are so quit these days though, its disheartening, as it will be the last time working in them. Last Friday there was absolutely no one in Tervakoski, and Kitta and I rearranged the library instead.
Saturday I spendt in Helsinki, enjoying time with my friendsies and having the best Iced whatever drink and caramel cheese cake in like, ever.
Also, we went to see X-Men: Apocalypse, which kicked major ass, and I bought the cutest Moomin shirt for my nephew. In the same store I realized they still had a plush fish I took a picture with 4,5 years ago...
So naturally I had Anna take this picture of me:
My fish-posing skills are lacking though.
Sunday was spendt super-relaxed, till work started again. I am a little bit daunted at how many doddamn things I have to finnish before the end of next week, and I am away all weekend to go hiking with Anna, Suski and Mirjam....
But I can do it! (Can I?)
Terveisin,
Lisa

Week 33
Hi lovelies,
Sorry for the late update! Last week I have worked in the youth center in addition to doing a lot of office/planning work.
I have finally managed to finish my wall picture of BB-8 meeting the billiard balls.
Tomorrow is Europe Day, so I have prepared a quiz with questions about Europe and the European Union in German, English, Finnish and French. I have also made this box for the answers to be thrown in, and I am mighty proud of it:
On saturday of course, was vappu, the Finnish celebration of the 1st of May. Its actually a student/workers celebration day, but in Janakkala it felt more like under-age-drinking-day. But first things first: I dyed my hair green for the day:
And at Jaanas she made those amazing donuts herself, which were absolutly stunningly sweet and sugary and ugh...
The afternoon spend in Satama, in the evening we set out to do streetwork. It was a completly new experience for me, going out, offering assistance and attention to the drunken, often underaged teenagers in the streets and in the forest. It was hard too, working so late at night and speaking Finnish. But I think I fared quite well, especially in Tervakoski. But I cant imagine doing street work every day or night, its quite hard.
Then on sunday, the 1st of May, Jaana, Marina (the previous volunteer from Russia) and me went hiking to see a beautiful spring flowers and we had special Finnish baked goods I hadnt tried before. They look a little weird and are made specifically for vappu. I enjoyed them a lot :)
I´ll post all the pictures of my vappu weekend as a seperate picture post, so this doesnt get too long!
Terveisin,
Lisa
