Orbital Tumors Surgery in India
What Are The Orbital Tumors?
The orbital tumors are tumors that appear somewhere around the orbit. The orbit is the bony socket that protects the eye from any threat. The orbital tumors can appear anywhere in the orbit, and they lead to the displacement of the eyes – basically, the eyes can look bigger, a disease called proptosis, or they are lower or higher than normal, a condition called dystopias. This kind of tumor is very dangerous, if is not treated in time, it can lead to the complete loss of eyesight.
How Can The Orbital Tumors Be Treated?
The orbital tumors can be treated through an orbital tumor surgery. Orbital tumors are removed via a surgery called an orbitotomy, an orbit-opening surgery to access the tumor. This kind of surgery may be performed through a lateral, anterior, medial, or posterior route and is then called lateral orbitotomy, anterior orbitotomy, medial orbitotomy, or posterior orbitotomy. If multiple approaches are used, then the surgery is called a combined orbitotomy. The orbitotomy basically consists of a surgery through which the orbit is opened and the tumor is removed. The anterior orbitotomy, used for tumors that are located in the anterior orbit, is done with a trans-septal, trans-periosteal, or transconjunctival incision (Through the conjunctival surface of the eyelid), through which the tumor is removed. The lateral orbitotomy is used to remove masses located deeper in the orbit, or lesions of the lacrimal gland. The incision is placed this time under the brow, higher in the eyebrow, or in the small crease in the eyelid. After the incision, the periorbita has to be opened after a small section of the bone has been removed. Once the periorbita is opened, the oculoplastic surgeon can remove the tumor, close the periorbita back, and replace the bone. When it comes to the posterior orbitotomy, it is done similarly to the lateral one, through the same, lateral approach.
Recovery
The recovery time depends on the patient and on the type of surgery that was performed like how complicated was it, or how big the tumor was, but it usually takes around 2 weeks for you to be able to go back to your normal life, as the surgery will give you bruises and swelling that take time to disappear. The first week after the surgery, you will be restrained from doing very difficult sports, and the general effort you make should be minimized. It’s recommended not to travel during the first 4 weeks after the surgery, although you’ll most likely be discharged in just a day after the orbitotomy surgery. You will also need to go for regular checkups after the surgery. After the type or types of orbitotomy you need are done, there will remain scars, but the scars should be minimal when the surgery is performed by a skilled oculoplastic surgeon. It takes time, however, for these scars to disappear – usually between 6 – 10 months. During these months you may experience redness, tearing, or vision changes. They will eventually go away, but you will need to take the medicine your doctor prescribed you. Sometimes, using artificial tears is also recommended.
What Is The Cost Of Orbital Tumor Surgery?
Over the last few years, several rare forms of cancer have been diagnosed due to better medical technology. Rare cancers of the eye socket or the orbit can pose a significant risk of complications and metastasis. Orbital tumor removal and reconstructive surgery are a way to ensure timely treatment of the tumor and prevent further spread.
Any surgical procedure involves a considerable investment. If you require orbital tumor surgery, you should thoroughly research procedure costs. The cost of orbital tumor surgery depends on the extent of reconstruction required as well as the type of surgery needed. In the interest of health and safety, please choose a reputed medical center and well-known surgeon.

Lipoma Excision
Have you ever noticed a small, soft, lump-like growth under your skin that moves when you press it? Chances are, it could be a lipoma! A lipoma is a common, non-cancerous growth of fat cells that typically develops just beneath your skin. While they may not be harmful, they can be unsightly or uncomfortable, especially when they occur in multiple places.
The good news is that lipoma excision, the surgical removal of lipomas, is a safe and effective treatment procedure, especially when done by a skilled plastic surgeon. With minimal scarring and excellent results, it's no wonder that many people turn to plastic surgery for their lipoma removal needs. So, if you're considering lipoma excision, read on to learn more about it.
What is Lipoma?
A lipoma is a fatty tissue that grows right under the skin. It is slow-growing and is often situated between your skin and the underlying muscle layer. Lipomas are usually benign (non-cancerous). They are common in middle-aged individuals (40-60 years of age). They can occur anywhere but are mostly seen in the upper part of your body. Lipomas are commonly seen in the neck, shoulders, forearms, arms, and thighs.
A person with a lipoma can feel a soft, doughy, oval-shaped lump just beneath the skin. They are not tender to touch and they move even with slight pressure. Lipomas are usually harmless unless they affect joints, organs, nerves, or blood vessels. Most lipomas do not cause any health problems. The exact cause of lipomas is not known but is believed to run in families.
Why Lipoma Occurs?
Healthcare providers aren’t sure about the exact cause. They are believed to be inherited or passed down through families. Some conditions that can lead to the formation of lipomas include the following:
Gardner syndrome: It is a rare genetic condition that can lead to the growth of non-cancerous lumps such as lipomas.
Dercum’s disease: This condition is also called adiposis dolorosa or Anders’ syndrome. It causes painful lipomas to grow on the arms and legs.
Madelung’s disease: This condition often occurs in men who drink alcohol excessively. This condition is also called multiple symmetric lipomatosis and it causes lipomas to grow on the neck and shoulders.
Hereditary multiple lipomatosis: It is also called familial multiple lipomatosis and it runs in families.
What are the symptoms of Lipoma?
Some of the people who have lipomas do not experience any symptoms. The characteristics of lipomas include the following:
They are painless. However, some can be painful depending on their size, location, and the presence of blood vessels close to them
Lipomas are movable even with slight pressure. They are located right under your skin and they move on touch
They are round and oval-shaped. The fatty lump of tissue is usually symmetrical
Lipomas are encapsulated and do not spread to the tissue around them
Mostly they are smaller than two inches in diameter. In rare cases, they can be larger than six inches
What are the common risk factors that can lead to the formation of lipomas?
People who have a family history of lipomas are at a higher risk of developing the condition. Other risk factors of lipoma include:
Obesity (a condition where there is excessive fat accumulation in the body)
High cholesterol (a condition where the cholesterol levels in the blood are higher than normal)
Diabetes (a condition where your blood sugar levels are higher than normal)
Liver diseases (any condition that affects the normal functioning of the liver)
Glucose intolerance (a condition where your blood glucose levels are higher than normal but so high that it can qualify as diabetes)
How are Lipomas treated?
It can be removed surgically or through other methods such as liposuction or steroid injections.
Let’s take a look at what happens before, during, and after lipoma excision.
Preparation For a Lipoma Excision
Your doctor will explain the procedure in detail and discuss the necessary preparations required.
He/she will go through your medical history and the medications that you are currently taking. You may need to stop taking medications such as blood thinners (medications that are given to prevent blood clots) 5-6 days before the procedure as these medications can increase the risk of bleeding.
Inform your doctor in case you are allergic to any medications.
Discuss any concerns or queries that you have regarding the procedure with your doctor.
Lipoma excision is generally done under local anaesthesia and therefore there are no restrictions on food or drinks before the procedure.
Procedure For a Lipoma Excision
Steroid Injections
Steroid injections, when used in the affected area, can help in shrinking the lipoma. This method can shrink the lipomas but cannot remove them completely.
These injections are best performed on lipomas that are less than 1 inch in diameter
The liquid will be injected into the centre of the lesion
The amount of steroid used will depend on the size of the lipoma
This procedure might be performed a few times every month
Liposuction
This is another method that can be used for lipoma excision. Since lipomas are fat-based liposuction can help shrink them.
It is used to remove small or large lipomatous growths, especially in locations where large scars should be avoided.
The area will be numbed with the help of local anaesthesia.
A needle that is attached to a large syringe is inserted into the lump to suck out the fat tissue.
Surgery
Local anaesthesia is administered to numb the area of the surgery. In case your lipoma is large or deep then you will be given general anaesthesia. Thus, you will not feel any pain during the surgery.
An incision will be made in the area of the lipoma
The mass will be removed with the help of surgical instruments
The tissues from the mass will be removed and sent to the laboratory for testing (to test if it’s cancerous)
The incisions will be closed with the help of sutures and the area will be covered with a pressure bandage to prevent bleeding.
Post-operative Care After Lipoma Excision
At The Hospital:
If the procedure was done under general anaesthesia, you will need to stay in the recovery room for a few hours until the effect of the anaesthesia wears off. During this time your vital signs such as your heart rate and blood pressure will be monitored. Lipoma excision is a simple procedure and you can return home on the same day a few hours after the procedure.
At Home:
During the first 24 hours, it is good to move around as it helps in reducing stiffness.
In the days after the procedure, you might experience swelling and pain at the site of the surgery. This can be managed with the medications that your doctor would prescribe, which include painkillers and antibiotics (medications that help in preventing infections at the site).
Eat healthily and drink plenty of water. You can follow light exercises and do walking.
Any kind of strenuous exercise such as lifting heavy weights should be avoided for 2-3 weeks after the procedure.
Complete recovery will be according to the size and location of the lipoma. Typically patients can return to work and resume light activities after a week.
What are the risks involved in lipoma excision?
Lipoma excision is a safe procedure and usually does not cause any risks. A few of the possible complications are:
Bleeding from the incision site
Infection at the site of the incision
Scarring (thick tissue that grows at the site of an injury)
When to follow up with the doctor?
Your doctor will schedule a follow-up appointment a week after the procedure to check for proper healing and recovery.
When to contact the doctor?
Consult a doctor immediately in case you experience the following symptoms,:
Fever and chills
Severe pain on the surgical site
Abnormal discharge or a foul smell from the incision site.
Lipoma excision is a safe procedure with minimal side effects. However, if you experience any severe discomfort after the procedure you need to consult your doctor immediately.
How much does Lipoma excision cost?
The cost of the procedure may vary on a case-to-case basis depending upon the procedure, and complexities associated with the disease. Lipoma removal cost may also vary based on any additional tests, anaesthesia, or follow-up care that may be required.
It is important to note that the cost of the procedure may be different for each patient, and it is best to consult with a healthcare provider for an estimate of the cost.
Takeaway
Lipoma excision is generally done by a plastic surgeon or a general surgeon. It is better to get it removed by a plastic surgeon as they can manage multiple lesions with minimal scarring. This means that if you have several lipomas that need to be removed, a plastic surgeon can remove them all in one surgery, resulting in less downtime and a quicker return to normal activities.

❤️🩵😭I'm a nurse & coach. I can save your life, but can you save my life?!🩵❤️I have epilepsy. Spread the word for the next emergency. I stayed at the hospital for 16 days recently still feel sickly almost going back to work though hopefully.
Little did the paramedics know that I had a history of seizures & fainting. I bumped my head really hard & was unresponsive a few weeks ago during my seizure. I now have a medical ID of what I have.
They mistakenly thought I was suicidal & cut myself. I want to make it clear I will NEVER be suicidal nor cut myself nor hurt others. Please to EMTs & hospitals read my pink medical id on my wrist in the future when I am unresponsive so you don't send me to Saint Mary's Behavioral Health at Saint Marys Regional Medical Center Hospital location. You can send me to that hospital but in a different department. Even though I already had bipolar, that's already regulated by meds & that's not what my emergency was.
I did meet a lot of great people & made some great friends but when I'm dying PHYSICALLY please send me to the CORRECT emergency department in Neurology or CT Scan area.
I also had cardiac problems so please recheck my EKG! I've had heart failure before in 2019 & 2020 & had to be resuscitated. I have tachycardia & on 6-7 total different medications. I've had heart arrhythmia since I was 17 since 2010. I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 17 with history of head injuries.
I wish for next emergency to stay home because I'm so terrified being a patient in hospitals. It was like literally the 8th time I got rushed in an ambulance to the hospital. Need some prayers.🙏 Nevada born & raised family lived in Nevada for 44 (forty-four) years. Again thank you to all the people sending me kind messages during & after my hospitalization. 😭Good music always gets over my days. All I always do is stay positive over everything even the toughest days.Still 18 years as a an elite long distance runner &'rwceived past athletic scholarships.

Excision of Large Maxillary Tumor This gentleman presented to our hospital with a large painless swelling in the left maxillary region, which had been progressively increasing in size over the last two years. This also involved the maxillary sinus and teeth in the region had been displaced because of the large size of the tumor. Imaging studies performed at our hospital revealed a large lesion in the region. Biopsy returned with the diagnosis of a large adenomatoid odontogenic tumor. Treatment planning was explained to the patient and he consented to surgery. The tumor was dissected in its entirety, the sinus lining was debrided and bone smoothened with a burr. It was explained to him that reconstructive surgery will be performed after confirming that there was no recurrence of the tumor. He was extremely pleased with the results of the surgery. 📞 Phone: +91 44 4294 7222 📬 Email: [email protected] 🌍 Website: www.smbalaji.com 📍 Location: Chennai, India #tumor #tumorremoval #tumorexcision #biopsy #maxillarytumor #maxillarysinus #odontogenictumor #drsmbalaji #smbalaji #balajidental #maxillofacialsurgeon #maxillofacialsurgery #india #chennai #tamilnadu (at Balaji Dental and Craniofacial Hospital) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBSz4fmFp9b/?igshid=1o2jckx4pk4um

The patient had developed a swelling in his right orbit approximately 10 years ago. This had caused his eye to become displaced outwardly, progressively affecting his vision. He had sought medical help once this began to affect his activities of daily living. Comprehensive testing had been done including a 3D CT scan. This had revealed a bony growth in the right orbital cavity. He had been advised to undergo surgical excision of the lesion. The patient had subsequently undergone two unsuccessful surgical procedures elsewhere through a bicoronal approach. There had been recurrence of the lesion after both surgeries due to incomplete removal of the lesion. He had also had severe infection of the surgical site. These had severely compromised his quality of life. It was then that the patient had been referred by a doctor in his hometown to our hospital. We are a reputed center for dealing with craniofacial abnormalities in India. He had obtained an appointment and had presented to our hospital. Dr SM Balaji, craniofacial surgeon, had examined the patient and obtained detailed imaging studies including a 3D CT scan. The neurosurgical team was consulted at each step of the procedure. This had revealed a bony overgrowth extending along the roof of the orbit and the medial wall, thus pushing the contents of the orbit outwards. The bony overgrowth appeared glasslike and was diagnosed as an ossifying fibroma. There was also slight intracranial extension of the lesion. Using the previous bicoronal incision scar, the lesion was accessed through the previous right craniotomy after removal of the mesh. Lumbar puncture was performed and CSF was drained to reduce intracranial pressure. Care was taken to protect the orbital nerve throughout. Dura was retracted and the intraorbital tumor mass was trimmed. An orbital osteotomy was next performed over the roof and medial wall of the orbit with complete excision of the mass. This resulted in complete resolution of his proptosis. The frontal bone flap was then placed into anatomical position followed by the titanium mesh. Skin closure was through staples. #orbitaltumor #tumorremoval #drsmbalaji https://www.instagram.com/p/B_HZJhahXhw/?igshid=mrsfpcj83i2u
