Not embarrassed to say I am enthralled by Alastor Hazbin Hotel. He is so awful and he just wants power and he was sooo fucking sure of himself he thought he could take on THE angel of heaven. I do not understand the haters I mean look at him. AND he's acearo. He has a silly microphone filtered voice and is incredibly polite except when he's demeaning the souls under his contract because he is INSECURE about his own contract and I fucking love him. He loves starting shit with fuckers clearly more powerful than him just because like he legit went out of his way to get under Lucifer's skin, he's sooo funny. MUSICAL TUMBLRMAN BATTLE

hey there, it's me, marina @annabelle--cane. you've seen these brackets before, you know the drill, it's time to watch these bastards kill each other.

rules/guidelines:

I'm using "tumblrman"/"the jokner of musicals" because a lot of the characters iconic to this genre are minors and it wouldn't be appropriate for an adult (<- me) to call them sexymen, but it also wouldn't feel right to just leave them out. I think these terms carry most of the same energy while leaving out sexual connotations.

personally, I will be voting and selecting based on levels of iconicness and how hard a choke hold these characters had on me and my peers, not based on which characters I actually think are best or that I like the most. I know this guideline is completely unenforceable and people will just black out and vote for their blorbos, but if this gets a good turn out, maybe I'll do a "favorite/best/most musical character" tournament afterwards.

there are a few characters who are already guaranteed spots (jd, beetlejuice, the squip, etc.), but still feel free to submit any obvious choices, especially if you've got compelling propaganda.

there are a few characters I don't feel comfortable including, but I don't think people are likely to submit them and I think posting a list would invite discourse, so I'll just say that I leave it ultimately up to my discretion whether or not to dismiss certain nominations.

since I will be selecting characters based on how iconic I think they were/are, nominees will likely skew male, but submissions are also open to female and nonbinary characters. the jonkler of musicals can be any gender.

similarly, I'm going to prioritize characters from stage musicals, but you may also submit characters from movie, TV, podcast, song cycle, or other medium musicals. if you're unsure, just go ahead and submit them and I'll figure it out.

this is a CRINGE POSITIVE space. ribbing on your past self or 2017 musical fandom culture as a whole is all fine and good, but try to keep in the spirit of friendly competition and stay away from being outright mean. if what you're saying is indistinguishable from a homophobe talking about their high school gsa, I will block you and delete your comments.

Be it alternate universes or freak transporter accidents, a witch's curse or timeline shenanigans, one thing that's fascinated scifi and geek fan culture for ages, especially on this hellsite, has been the prospect of meeting yourself.

To honor this glorious tradition, I'm assembling a tournament that pairs the sexiest of tumblrmen with themselves, and then pits them against each other. We'll determine, once and for all, the selfcest champion.

Automatically included are some of the greats (and my personal favorites). Feel free to include them in submissions so I can curate lists of aliases/start collecting propaganda

+ Ground Rules:

I reserve the right to exclude any characters or fandoms from the bracket (to be fair, the most hated usually get voted off quickly anyway). For example, I decided to exclude a MCYT character, as their player is not comfortable with certain fandom behavior, and there's significant overlap between the character and creator. I'm not here to shame you, but I don't want to amplify something that sexually objectifies a real person beyond their stated boundaries.

Feel free to vote on whatever criteria you see fit! I try to prioritize iconic ✨ examples, ones that have had large impacts on Tumblr history, and any personal blorbos 💖

(NEW 9/20) I did say whatever criteria, but I do feel like I should address hate-voting. I'm not going to forbid it, but I ask that you consider if you really do hate the character/fandom that much. For example, Oncelercest isn't my cup of tea by any means, but man.... you gotta hand it to him.....

I love passionate (and even sometimes violent) propaganda, but do NOT bully anyone or send targeted threats. If it's getting nasty out there, I might use my judgement to adjust this rule, but I hope I won't have to.

From my end, I really appreciated how @controversial-blorbo-bracket ran their tournament, so I'll try to follow their lead: be open and transparent, give people who are writing propaganda the benefit of the doubt where possible, and try to take passionate takes in stride.

i think instead of a repeat of the tumblr sexyman polls, which has been biased by the bit, we should define and hold polls for a twitter sexyman, the antithesis of tumblrmen being ranked on twitter.

to me, a twitter sexyman is one or more of the following:

(1) a character whose fanon sexymanification primarily occurred off-tumblr, most usually on twitter or tiktok.

(2) a character who garnered a mass reaction of “is this guy gonna be the next sexyman” and “please don’t make this guy a sexyman” even though no one’s done anything yet. +Bonus points if people are saying this on twitter with the phrase ‘tumblr sexyman’ specifically

(3) a character that garners the above reaction but through 5D chess and four levels of reverse psychology, ends up becoming a sexyman anyways.

(4) a character that falls into the looser, bastardized definition of sexyman. this applies to most modern sexymen as the cultural zeitgeist of 2010s fanon has long since passed, and there will never be something quite like the onceler or human!bill to the same degree ever again.

for example, to me spamton is the prime example of a twitter sexyman because immediately following the ch2 release, i saw a lot of “please don’t make him a tumblr sexyman” both on here and on twitter (2), followed by several debates on whether or not he even Qualifies as a sexyman, then somehow successfully became a sexyman via all this debacle (3). also, twitter is where i first saw unsolicited fanart of spamton’s dick&balls and him being drawn with the proportions of the fnaf marionnette (1). meanwhile, before everything about spamton blew up, immediately following ch2 most fanart on tumblr was just people treating him like a wet rag (4).

that was just my own experience though. feel free to define your own twitter sexymen.
