There are three kinds of aesthetes. Maybe more. They don't usually get along.
Tumblr is ruled by the phthiphilic aesthetes. Phthiphilic aesthetes love decay. They will reblog an image of a rusting fence, a grainy photo of an old childhood bedroom, a rotting log. They might talk about the inherent eroticism of horror. Love of gore is the most extreme expression phthiphilic aesthetics. They might be goth. The quintessential girlblogger is phthiphilic to her core.
Next are the oneirophilic aesthetes. You might find them in a modern art museum or at a sci-fi convention. They are enamored with abstractions and dreamscapes. Lines, forms, wide vistas of still and silent worlds. Our own rat-adjs are prone to oneirophilia, very prone to it. I can't think of a place where it is more common. Well, maybe beside the MoMA.
Finally are the physiphilic aesthetes, of which you can count me as a member <3. Physiphilic aesthetes are interested in the actual, the material, the earthy. They have a special appreciation for a certain vibrancy and untamèdness of the actually existing, the things-as-they-are. The physiphilic aesthete might reblog a picture of a dense forest or an antique table. They might reblog a rotting log too, but the point won't be the rot. Their images will be clear and matter-of-fact. The point isn't the picture, but what's in the picture.
