STUMBLES IN COVERED IN BLOOD. hi! sorry i haven’t posted art in a while!!!! i redrew every single isat battle portrait. including 15 custom sprites, totalling up to 78 sprites total. use these for anything you want!! as long as i’m credited and it’s not for commercial purposes, go nuts!!!

i labeled all of the custom sprites as such in the drive, but for anyone that doesn’t want to sift through that, the custom sprites are bigfrin damage (2), act 6 siffrin KO and timefreeze, mira timefreeze, bonnie hurt, KO, buff, and timefreeze, and All Of Loop’s Sprites. the wiki doesn’t include the act 5 buff sprite but like. i assume it exists so i’m not counting it as custom.

anyways!! this took about 2 Weeks of drawing every day. i literally drew for like 8 hours straight on one of those days. siffrin here has 39 PORTRAITS IN TOTAL i’m not kidding. that’s straight up half of all the sprites. he doesn’t need that many.

i promise. i will not be making more redraws. for at least a week. i will resist the temptation to draw the battle cgs i promise i swear i prommy. this was really fun to work on!!!! really made me appreciate just how much adrienne drew for this game jesus christ. god’s strongest soldier. with all that aside, here’s all of the portraits! enjoy!! falls over dead on the ground

I'm using you as an excuse to infodump my theory about the Island because I've had no in to do that, and my theory is pure opinion. Anyways:

THE ISLAND IS STUCK IN THE FUCKING FUTURE

(SCARE CHORD)

Hi so you might ask me. What the fuck do you mean by that. Well. Let's start with what we know about the Island, the King, and Wish Craft. (long ass post under cut. sorry)

The Island was redacted from the perception of outside world, via Wish Craft.

Wish Craft has the power to enable Time Craft. We see this primarily through Siffrin's timeloops, but also through the King's powers.

One of the King's powers is to show the saviors a "vision of the future."

...And this same attack is deflected back at the King by Mirabelle in ACT 5, in which the King is able to see the Island before being frozen in time.

...So. The King's "vision of the future." We're never told explicitly what this vision is. All we know is that it's apparently powerful enough to wipe the party in one hit, hearing it from a distance hurts your head, and that whatever Siffrin (and Loop) saw, they don't seem to actually be able to describe it. Even the King himself doesn't know what his vision entails.

We don't know whether the party all sees the same thing when struck by the vision, and Adrienne's answer to the question about it in the Reddit AMA is. vague? It's not a "no," and the specific wording makes me think the answer might be yes. But that's me reading into it.

Now. What do we know about the Island's redaction? The Island was affected by the wish recently, as in "like a decade ago" recently. We know that nobody in Vaugarde or the rest of the world is capable of thinking about the Island, anything closely tied to the Island's culture, or people on the Island for very long. When they do recall these things, they slip right out of reach. Particularly, the consequence for trying to think about the Island (or, more specifically, break the wish that forces the Island out of perception) is significant pain, localized in the head.

And that said pain is enough to become lethal, if pressed hard enough.

From here forward I'm running with the assumption that the King's "vision of the future" is not personalized to any individual, and is unchanging throughout the course of the whole story. Now. Remember the end of ACT 5, where the King gets hit with the deflected "vision of the future", and instead of dying, he recalls the Island and gets frozen in time? Very odd, yeah? Why wouldn't the King just die like everyone else does? He even does take 9999 damage when trying to say its name, like Siffrin does, and like the party does when they're hit by the attack.

Well. We know that he has a "true wish" that the ability to freeze Vaugarde in time grants. I don't think it's at all a stretch to guess that the King's "true wish" is to be able to remember the Island. My personal guess is that the King (and Siffrin) brought this "true wish" into effect via the "SAY ITS NAME" sequence- he even tries three times, a significant number in wishing.

The King (and Siffrin's) wish breaks, because it can't be fulfilled in this moment without breaking the wish to prevent the Island from being thought about. However. Consider the conditions at the end of ACT 5- the King sees the vision of the future reflected back to him, and what he sees is the Island. He remembers the Island, fulfilling his own wish, and is frozen in time. I consider this a compromise between his wish and the one binding the Island- the King gets to remember the Island, but nobody alive is able to think about it, because he's frozen in time; it's like the Universe is correcting itself (I WILL GET BACK TO THIS). The wish of all of Vaugarde to defeat the King is fulfilled, since he is no longer a threat, and Siffrin's wish wraps itself up soon after.

MY POINT BEING. The King's attack is a vision of the future. This "future" is of the Island, in some uncorrupted state. The saviors see it when he attacks them, and he sees it when it is deflected back to him.

The logical next question is "okay, so the Island exists in the future, but how do you know time shenanigans are even related to the Island?"

Recall a very odd series of interactions throughout the game, in which you try to interact with a piece of equipment that you already own.

The game rewinds slightly, before the item disappears, as the Universe corrects itself.

This is awfully similar to two particular events: looping back without seeing the death screen, and talking to the Daydreaming One about her sister. The latter is more interesting to me for the purposes of this theory.

In both instances, something is misaligned within the Universe (an item existing in two places, someone remembering something they're not supposed to) and it is corrected through some sort of rewind. Also compare the dialogue above to when you try to give Mirabelle the Stylish Bow when you already own it.

The world glitches, but Siffrin defuses the situation before the Universe has to intervene. Omitted from the screenshot is the fact that Mirabelle's portraits switch to happy from "catastrophically anxious" with no transition after Siffrin shows her where the bow is. Important to note is that when Mirabelle tries to recall receiving the bow, her head hurts, much like how trying to break the Island wish causes a headache.

The Universe leads you away from perception, and you can only follow.

My theory that I keep circling around is that through Wish Craft, the Island has been displaced temporally. The denizens of the Island, as well as the Island itself, still exist, but they are in the future. The Island is still loaded into the world, like how equipment is before you try to interact with it, and the Island cannot leave this quantum state, because it never actually went anywhere. The magnitude of the redaction event is so severe with the Island, because it is so much larger as an entity than a sword or a bow. There are of course things I don't really have pieced together, like why somebody would wish the Island into the future, how far into the future it is, or why equipment behaves this way. But it's the only Island theory I've seen that I have some level of confidence in, so I might as well lay out my cards for it.

one guy said yay so here!!!! "the first thing that happens is that on the week the great twisting is happening, michael is in hospital because of appendicitis. instead gertrude takes sara carpenter and emma harvey to the great twisting instead. emma believes she can make it out and orchestrate saras suffering, but they are both caught and made into the distortion together, bound with the same webs emma used to cause fiona laws death. when gertrude returns, she tells michael they got "lost" gertrude than makes her focus on gerry and stopping the unknowing, leaving michael alone in the archives for months at a time. Later, gerry dies too, and gertrude shortly after. Keep in mind, he has no idea about any of the fears. he just thinks he has really shit luck

jonah decides michael would make a good enough archivist. His curiosity is not anything above average, but his trust was exceptional. He would believe, or perhaps be willfully ignorant of things to the contrary, you told him. Jonah decides that if he plays his cards right, if he places his assistants in enough danger and set them up just right, michael could be marked by every fear and become a vessel for the eye it didnt hurt that he was already plenty marked by the end, with his own near death experiences and all of his friends and coworkers dying within just a few years. so Jonah promoted him. He could, in theory, say no of course. But he couldnt quit. and why not get extra pay from his shitty job

Jonah picks his assistants, Jonathan sims, Martin Blackwood, Tim Stoker, and Sasha James. Almost all already working in research and marked by a fear of their own. he would usually leave the choice of assistants to the archivist, but he doesnt trust michael to pick the right ones

when the assistants first meet michael they do NOT have a good impression. Michael is now in his mid thirties and no less awkward than he was before, along with this, he has become quite jaded. He doesnt want to admit he cares about these employees for fear of them ending the same way the others did. He mostly stays in his office all day, reading statements and doing research, only popping out to give statements for the others to research, or even more rarely to go to the breakroom

i think his journey with the statements is actually pretty similar to jons. at first he questions them all fiercly, as surely his friends in the archive would have told him if something more sinister was going on. When Jane Prentiss locks martin in his flat for 2 weeks, he can no longer deny it this starts causing him to start rethinking his relationship with emma his old colleagues, but not gertrude, not yet. (side note: as an assistant jon is a little more open to the idea of the supernatural, he doesnt feel the same need to put on a brave face)

soooo jane prentis shit gos mainly unchanged? the big thing that is changed is that sasha lives. but its not very. wholesome. she still comes across the table, but instead of the not!them taking her, she recognizes the thing locked in the table as something like her. The not!them seems to recognize this too, and they have a moment of silent recognition before sasha runs in terror, she thinks the familiar fear of the worms is better than the unfamiliar pull of herself toward this other creature. she is the first in the archive to begin a journey as an avatar.

also! character developement! during the whole incident the assistants learn that while michael doesnt like to show it or even admit it to himself, he cares about them quite a bit! this doesnt last long tho because he gets the paranoia in s2 like jon does,,,,

i think he wouldnt stalk his coworkers,,, i think he would shut himself off more. of course the murder of gertrude robinson was not great for him, but his fear of death paled in comparison to the fear that his assistants could be lying to him. could lie like emma and sara did. maybe to him they deceived Gertrude too. after the vulnerability he showed durring the prentiss incident it was like whiplash. he starts not even coming in during the day at all, only communicating with his assistants through email. they dont know when he sleeps, as he sends them during the day too,,,, i think a lot of the season 2 plot would be the assistants trying to convince michael to maybe sleep sometimes and not work all throughout the night also polyarchives they r actively falling in love btw sorryyyyy

i think michaels behavior concerns the archival assistants but it also pisses thm off. like we all went through that why are you being so difficult about it? why wont you let us help? while all this stuff is happening a random researcher is not!them'ed. someone irrelevant idk also!!! he meats emma and sara distortion! it traumatizes him horribly! end goal is michael+polyarchives btw. they kill jonah magnus and stop the apocolypse and are gay together web martin, spiral jon, stranger sasha, and tim escapes"

what makes gear 5 so crazy is how its the culmination of all of one piece's themes put into one power-up !! its about liberation and freedom and laughter !! if you don't understand the importance of those things then you just don't understand one piece. but no. anime fans don't give a shit about a good narrative. they only want to see cool fights and big boobs. and this episode didn't have a ton of either so it must be bad.
