ID: two consecutive screenshots from Team Starkid's "The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals" showing Paul and Emma. In the first Paul is standing with his back partially to the viewer, looking down at Emma. He says "Okay, Emma, I think the world is becoming..." In the second he finishes with "A musical." He has lowered to her height and is making a disgusted face and waving his hand. Emma looks confused in both. End ID
Are you confused and disgusted by the state of the world? Does it feel like the world is changing irreversibly, and for the worse, before your eyes and do you want to do something about it? Do you like musicals? Boy, have I got the thing for you!
There are 6 (4 seperate) offerings for musical-based fanwork in Fandom Trumps Hate, a fanworks auction for progressive charities (learn more right here on tumblr via @fandomtrumpshate), which means you can support some charities doing the good work while also getting awesome fanwork out of it! Browsing is open right now! Bidding begins on Monday March 5th.
The specific musical offerings are:
Written fanwork (<5k words) for Falsettos by Cr1ngeCulture, who is especially interested in "creating poetry and/or drabble collections, especially character studies". Find the full listing here (link to Cr1ngeCulture's offering).
Fanart for Cats by StatisticalCats (@statisticalcats2 here on tumblr), who is specifically creating gifsets or moodboards. Find the full listing here (link to StatisticalCats' offering).
A video edit for the Hatchetfield verse from Team Starkid by Ice_Wave (@eye-affiliated-podcast-character here on tumblr, who loves "dramatic music videos, crack videos, and crossovers". Find the full listing here (link to Ice_Wave's offering).
And finally, pixel art for either of the three following: Team Starkid, Tin Can Bros, or Starry Musical, offered by MxCaptain, aka yours truly, me! I'm interested in working on most of the shows by both Starkid and TCB though I have not fully watched Nerdy Prudes Must Die or the Solve It Squad sequels. Find the full listing here (link to MxCaptain's offering).
So? Are you ready to do your part and get some awesome fanwork in return?
ID: a screenshot from Team Starkid's Firebringer showing Zazzalil and Keeri leaning out from a tree that's out off frame, in similar poses with a smile and outstretched hand. Next to them is the text "What if I did something more? Than what my people bargained for?" End ID

🧙♂️ FELLOW TUMBLR ANIMATORS:
If you're using Adobe Animate on an iMac and you have the issue of frameskipping/lag when using the timeline, YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND ALSO I BRING HOPE AND AN END TO YOUR PLIGHT!!
So I switched to Animate 2021 from Flash CS5.5 last week because the autosaver took 45 seconds to back up and using my laptop while hotdesking I realised its only 6 seconds save time on AA2021. That really adds up when you autosave every six minutes because Animate is unreliable and crashes frequently.
But alas. My woes were just beginning. Specifically the woes that look like this:
I thought this was because my iMac has only 8gb of RAM and unfortunately its the kind you can't install upgrades to, so I basically thought I was just fucked. But it turns out this is a problem with all 4k/5k Apple computers, because Animate is terribly optimised and its vector system was never designed to run on HD machines. Because Animate is worse than Flash and keeps getting worse with every successive build.
BUT FEAR NOT!!! there IS a workaround:
If you go to apps and get info on Animate, then and then check open in low resolution, THEN when you reopen Animate it'll run buttery smooth again (though it will look slightly soft-focus because of pixel interpolation). AFAIK this option is only available on Catalina-Ventura, however Ventura onwards allow you to change your native resolution to be lower (Catalina, for whatever godforsaken reason, does not have this option).
FINALLY, if you're still on beautiful beloved Mojave, DO NOT UPGRADE UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO!! Catalina ended 32 bit program support which means you can't run Flash CS5.5 anymore (you can install it on the latest Mojave even if it gives you an out of date error, you just gotta open package contents on the installer -- the files are on archive.org and there's at least one good jailbreaker out there in the usual places for Mac).
DOUBLE FINALLY, if you're not a veteran of Flash/Animate who pairbonded with it from childhood, USE KRITA or TOONBOOM HARMONY or LITERALLY any other software. Adobe software legitimately keeps getting worse and worse and Animate is by FAR the worst of all of them. It is so much better to learn a new workstation and be a bit slower for a couple months than locked into the worst company of all time that uses predatory pricing tactics and keeps getting worse and worse with every build. and also if you don't use Animate or Mac computers, please share this anyway so no one else has to skulk around on the internet feeling like giving up, looking for cheap busted iMacs with cracks on the screen because they think they need to shell out to continue making cartoons. Thank you for listening 🧙♂️✨💖

FAQ
Is this event 18+? Anyone of all ages can participate. We will reblog participants' entries, and therefore ask that any nsfw content be placed behind a cut or link off-tumblr (e.g. to AO3) with appropriate tags and warnings or we won't be able to reblog it. Prompts are SFW, but intended to be open to interpretation if you want to write NSFW!
Is art permitted? While this is primarily a writing-based event, yes! Art is definitely permitted! A quick sketch counts as a drabble. A completed drawing - a clean, finished line art piece on unlined paper for art - counts as a 1k word fic. To match the 5k word fic, a completed drawing - a clean, finished line art piece on unlined paper for art - must also be either coloured or shaded, and incorporate 5 prompts. (B&W crosshatching is fine, but must be not messy.)
Art can be:
Drawn, whether with a pen, brush, tablet, or mouse
Point, all form of pixel work
CG 3D, art made by modifying 3D shapes in a cyber space
We do not accept:
AI images generated by GenAI (e.g. DALL-E, Stable diffusion, GPT-4o, Gemini, etc)
Can I do some art, some writing? Yes! You can pick and choose.
Can I write/draw more? Of course! You can always write and draw more. But you can't win the same condition twice, so you won't get two badges if you write 4 fics of 1k each. You'll still be a double winner in our hearts. 💖️
Can I do all the challenges? We won't stop you! No one can stop you. 👀️
Will you reblog submissions? We sure will! Please use the tag b5@30for30 / b5at30for30 (we track both) when you post. (If you prefer your posts don't get reblogged, simply use 'don't reblog' in the tags. Then we will track the entry towards a win but not reblog it.) NB: If you don't see it reblogged within a couple days, your tumblr might be shadowbanned, in which case your posts won't show up in tags. Please reach out via DM / ask if that's the case. NB2: Don't forget to add the fandom tags 'babylon 5' / 'b5' so others can see it too!
What do I get if I win? The personal satisfaction of having completed and posted some things! But also you will receive a lil personalised commemorative gif as a badge to put on your neocities or tumblr or dreamwidth or wherever you like.
What does the gif look like? It's a secret. 😉️
I don't like my prompts. Can I get new ones? You are permitted one re-roll with no guarantee the prompts from your first set won't also show up in your second set. But there are 2000 prompts, so it is fairly unlikely. You cannot see the list of prompts beforehand to exclude some. You are permitted to reinterpret the prompts extremely liberally with maximum creativity and it's not necessary that it be obvious how you got from the initial prompt to final execution. And lastly, if you don't like one prompt, there are still 29 remaining.
I like this prompt but it doesn't fit these particular characters... can I be flexible about the order of my list? Sorry, no can do. The list binds you, so select your characters wisely! You can, however, rework which character is which. E.g., "6 asks 8 to dance", and 6 = Lyta Alexander where 8 = Londo Mollari, you can write Londo asking Lyta to dance.
How many prompts can I use per fanwork? The rule is one prompt per fanwork, and once you use that prompt, you can't reuse it for the other fanworks remaining to win. So to win with two 1000-word fics, you must use two different prompts. (You are always free to incorporate more if you want! This is your world, you can do anything you want in here! 🎨️) To win with twenty 100-word drabbles, you must use twenty out of the thirty prompts, and it's one prompt per drabble. To win with the 5k fic, you need to incorporate five separate prompts.
Can I use OCs/self-inserts? You sure can! This can be an all-OC list if you wish. However, 'Reader' as a character will only be available for one character slot - you will need to pick 7 others.
I need an extension! There are no extensions. You must finish and post your work by Sept 30 at 23:59 (UTC) to be eligible for the win. We'll still reblog it later when you finish it! You just won't get the shiny badge and the bragging rights. 😞️

Official Damirae Zine Announcement!
Welcome to the DamiRae Zine 2022!
Greetings fellow shippers! With the enormous success of last year’s zine and all the beautiful works that came out of it, we’ve decided round 2 is definitely in order.
For those of you newer to the fandom who may be wondering what this is all about, a fanzine (fan magazine or zine) is a non-professional and unofficial publication, produced by enthusiasts and fans of a particular popular cultural interest, for the pleasure of others who share your interest. In other words, a Zine is an unofficial project, unaffiliated to DC Comics, made for our nice little fandom. Fanart and fanfics galore!
In celebration of our second year, the first Zine is now available for free download. HERE
The title for this year’s zine is "Ordinary Worlds," and the theme is cinematic and literary AU’s. Give your favorite book or movie a Demonbird makeover! If you’d like to participate, please message us here on Tumblr or in the DamiRae discord with an explicit ‘yes’ that you’ll be contributing. We’re looking for about 25 creators in total, but may expand this if the interest is great enough and if we organizers can find the bandwidth.
Not a content creator but still want to participate? Consider being a beta! We could definitely use the help!
Rules of Engagement:
Rated T or lower (may contain violence, suggestive themes, strong language, cannot contain anything explicit, triggering, NSFW or +18)
Collaborations between artists and authors are encouraged, so feel free to DM anyone you’re interested in working with
Content must be zine exclusive for at least 1 year
After that creators may post their works and a free version of the zine will become available upon request
The zine discord is for participants only (artists/writers/betas)
Story Requirements:
Must submit a sample of your writing in order to be considered, although it does not have to be a new story. Betas and proofreaders will be available to help with translated works and anyone who just needs help with the technicals.
1k minimum word count for stories. Writers who require assistance with beta/editing will have a 3-5k word limit (~10 pages). Those who don’t have a 10k limit. This will be decided by the staff based on the writing sample you submit.
Maximum 2 stories per writer
Art Requirements:
Maximum 8 pages (= 4 full spreads)
A4 format, 300dpi // 3508 X 2480 pixels OR 297 X 210 mm — whichever measure is more comfortable
Nothing over 600 dpi, and final files preferably PNG, if not, JPEG
Color mode RGB, as it is friendlier for digital viewing
Timeline:
December 20th: Signups officially close and art/story ideas are due. The participant list and table of contents will be announced shortly after on Tumblr.
Signups may close earlier if we exceed how many creators we think we can successfully work with
March 1st: Deadline for sending ALL FINAL works.
April 1st: Estimated launch date for the zine. This may be sooner or later depending on how long it takes to put everything together. At that time you can purchase a digital copy for $10 with all the proceeds (minus processing fees) donated to charity.
> We will be doing progress checks on the 15th of January and February. We have limited time and staff, so commitment and responsibility from the participants is crucial to have quality work!
> The submitted work MUST be original and not previously posted to any social media and must NOT be posted anywhere until after the official release of our Zine, with an exception for small previews (ask staff for further instruction).

October 10, 2020 will likely be our last chance before the final Gintama movie comes out to celebrate the birth of everyone’s favorite lazy, nose-picking, natural-perm protagonist, so let’s make it a BASH! 🥳 🎉
Gintama fanworks of all kinds are welcome and will be reblogged, but the center stage event is a ✨ gift exchange ✨ (Keep reading for gift exchange calendar and rules.)
We are stoked to be moderating this event! We can’t wait to see what everyone creates for Gin-san’s bday. 🎁
Please reach out if you have any questions!
Gift Exchange Calendar
Gift Exchange Rules (also available in Google Doc)
Selection of gift exchange participants: We would love it if we could include everyone who signs up as artist, writer, pinch hitter artist, and/or beta reader, but it may not be possible, for various reasons. Event moderators reserve the right to select gift exchange participants, with or without providing an explanation if someone is not selected.
Work requirements (for both artists and writers):
Works must focus on GinHiji/HijiGin: Side pairings of other characters and/or references to past ships involving Gintoki and/or Hijikata are fine, but the work should be primarily about GinHiji/HijiGin.
No crossovers; AUs permitted: Given that it’s Gintama, you might allude to or jokingly “rip off” other fandoms, but please keep works within the Gintama fandom, either in a canon or AU setting. Outside of using them as minor characters, please avoid including original characters or characters from other fandoms in your work.
Participant expectations (for artists and writers):
Be respectful of the project you’re assigned: Paired artists & writers should be respectful of the work their partner is doing. They should work together to ensure that the artist is able to reflect either key parts of the story or capture the feeling of the story as a whole.
Communicate with your partner: Paired artists & writers should be checking in with each other at least weekly. If you reach out to your partner and they do not reply for a week or more, please contact the event moderators, and we will intervene on your behalf. If a participant is unresponsive to their partner and/or the event moderators, the event moderators reserve the right to disqualify them from the event and reassign their role to someone else.
Dropout date is September 16: If you need to drop out, please reach out to the event moderators as soon as possible (and no later than September 16), so someone can be assigned to pinch-hit for you.
Writer-specific requirements:
Previous Gintama work: Only writers who submit a link to existing Gintama fanfic that they wrote and published will be considered to participate as a writer in the gift exchange.
5k minimum word count: The minimum word count is 5,000, and there is no maximum word count. The more, the merrier.
Writing requirements: The requirement is for a new completed work; updates of existing works and works in progress do not meet the requirement for writers. [EDIT 7/8/20: bullet added]
AO3 account: An Archive of Our Own account is required for writers, as this is where your work will be posted, including a link to wherever your artist partner posts their work. Writers are welcome to cross-post their writing to other sites. If you don’t have an AO3 account, reach out & the mods can hook you up with an invitation to join AO3.
Beta reader: Working with a beta reader is not required. If you would like to work with a beta, you are welcome to select a beta of your own choosing. If you would like to work with a beta but don’t have someone lined up, please indicate when you sign up that you would like the event moderators to pair you with a beta reader. See the “Beta reader” section below for the expectation of interaction between writers & beta readers who are paired by the event moderators.
Artist-specific requirements:
Previous Gintama work: Only artists who submit a link to existing Gintama fanart that they created and published will be considered to participate as an artist in the gift exchange.
Social media: You may publish your finished product to the social media platform(s) of your choosing (and/or to AO3), with a link to your writer partner’s story on AO3. Feel free to cross-post your work to as many sites as you like.
One work minimum: The expectation is one completed, polished work. If you wish to create more than one work, feel free to. The more, the merrier.
Art requirements: The piece must be a new original work of your own creation. Updating an existing work does not meet the requirement. The work must depict the characters and a background that fits with what you and your writer discuss. Either traditional or digital media is welcome, other than please nothing on lined paper. Minimum image resolution 1,000x1,000 pixels. [EDIT 7/8/20: clarified that work must be new]
Beta readers:
Requirements: None. If you sign up to beta read, it is assumed that you are attesting to your competence to do so.
Interaction with your assigned writer: Early in the process, writers and their beta readers should be in communication and should agree upon the end goal. Is the writer just looking for someone to correct their grammar and clean up typos? Or is the writer looking for helpful constructive criticism about story elements? While you’re talking, agree upon a timeline, to prevent the beta and/or the writer getting stuck trying to do too much work in too little time.
Pinch hitter artists:
Requirements: All requirements that apply to artists apply to pinch hitters.
Wearing multiple hats: Signing up as both writer and pinch hitter artist or both artist and pinch hitter artist is allowed.
Discord: Once participants have been selected, all participants will receive a link to a private Discord server where they will receive updates and can ask any questions about the event.
Reach out to the mods with any questions: In conclusion, don’t hesitate to reach out to the event moderators with any questions or concerns! We’re not particularly scary, I promise! We will do our best to get back to you within 24 hours at most.
