What flower is on Catherine of Aragon's necklace?
White rose and? If you say red rose, then you need to have your eye-sight check, seriously.
Read further if you want to know what this reddish-orange flower might be.
This portrait needs no introduction. There are multiple theories as to who it us and my fans know I firmly believe it is Catherine of Aragon and not Mary Rose Tudor.
Well, about a month ago I've red an article which mentions the problematic: Michael Sittow Exhibition and Catalog Review by Stephan Kemperdick.
He is curator in Gemäldegalerie in Berlin.
And words of Dr Kemperdick has restored my faith in proffesionals who deal with art. Because his take upon this portrait...it's pure proffesionalism at its best. How it should be.
(Although bit confusing to normal fans because Mr Kemperdick is refering to the portraits not by names we fans use...but their locations or other names...I was ok with it...I think most of you would struggle with it.)
He makes such excellent points regarding this portrait.
And today I'm going to talk about one of them, one which I have known about for while, but kept putting on for later, because I had no answers.
This necklace is not showing white and red roses!
The white flower looks like rose, but the other flower is not even red! It's orange-red! And has pointy leaves! Roses with such petals didn't exist in Tudor era! (And I'd say they don't even now.)
White rose+orange-red flower with pointy leaves is not representation of Tudor rose!
(The tiny red and white flwers could be representing Tudor roses, but they seem to have just four petals...but that can be just optical ilusion...we don't have them in HD.)
That this necklace is showing Tudor roses is false observation, which is insisted upon! And false observation made both by Mr Mathews when he identified it as Mary Rose and by Friedländer(the guy who identified it as Catherine of Aragon in 1915.
Don't get me wrong, I still believe it is Catherine...but what the hell is the other flower?! What is this orange(or slightly red) pointy thing?!
I tried to find something which would fit...but it's probably not orange lily...tulips look good from side but not from this angle...
What the hell is it...and why would it be important to Catherine.
Straight away i went to look, how does pomegranate flower look like.
Colour ok? Orange-ish red...but completely wrong shape of petals.
So I thought that is the end of the theory. Then I went on holiday...and by chance there were dozens of pomegranate trees/shrubs. Most had already nice green fruit(not yet ripe), rather large even.
But there were few blooms and I noticed something.
Pomegranate flower has something very curious behind the petals.
And I thought...is that beginning of fruit already? Seems odd...These things were very red...and all pomegranate fruits on tree were very green...not hint of redness in them.
Apparently this thing behind the petals of pomegrante flower is called sepal, it protects the flower in the bud, and then in some fruit types the sepals can form 'accessory fruit'-it doesn't fall off, but becomes part of the fruit itself. In pomegranate's case, can you guess which part?
And amazingly, after petals fall off, often the sepals are no longer so vividly red...but instead turn to peachy orange with some redness:
Normally it has 6 sepals but I've seen few with 7, and on grown fruit(already not orange) I've seen even 5.
So I think it is possible that the orange flower on Catherine's necklace are sepals of pomegrante.
Pomegranate in unsual form.
Seriously, it has been identified as Catherine for so long..before Mary Rose nonsense started...and nobody thought to investigate if it could be pomegranate?
...Insisting upon false observation indeed!
And remember what Mr Mathews said...it can't be Catherine of Aragon, because her symbol is pomegranate...and she is not wearing it.
Except she might be wearing pomegranate...just not in usual form.

FLP CHAPBOOK OF THE DAY: All the Pretty Things Are Dying by Laurel Maxwell
On SALE: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/all-the-pretty-things-are-dying-by-laurel-maxwell/
All the Pretty Things Are Dying includes #poems that speak to #environmental #loss, longing for the heart’s desires to be seen and recognized, beauty in life’s everyday moments, and questions that reach into the soul. Many poems rely on close observation of the #natural #world in order to make sense of our place in the universe and grapple with how to exist while living within a constant state of change and uncertainty.
Laurel Maxwell is a writer and poet from Santa Cruz, CA. Her work draws inspiration from the natural world and is moved by the ways people interact with a changing climate. Her work has appeared at baseballballard.com, coffecontrails, phren-z, Verse-Virtual, Tulip Tree Review, and Yellow Arrow Vignette. She also blogs about travel, and teaching. She holds a B.A from Whitworth University and served as Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic. She works in education and loves to get lost in bookshops.
PRAISE FOR All the Pretty Things Are Dying by Laurel Maxwell
In her collection, All the Pretty Things are Dying, Laurel Maxwell asks her readers to engage with the work by asking questions. In “Eight”: “What about those unbelieving believers who hunger?/What about the waves that continually somersault onto the shore?” In “Bottled Hearts”: “Is that how the heart keeps from grieving?/Continually remaking itself until it has become something else altogether?” And then answers, which aren’t meant to be the answers, bur rather a means to provoke deeper reflection. In “Warning”: “The ocean only wants to whisper to sand/…Trees want to root and shoot like arrows in the azure sky.” After Pablo Neruda, after Mary Oliver, Maxwell asks us again and again, “And what is it we desire in the world?” speaking to longing, heart and destruction, inviting readers into a dialogue which includes Ilya Kaminsky, Naomi Shihab Nye, Aida Limon, ocean, monarchs, redwoods, worms and potatoes. In one of the final poems, “What I Carry,” Maxwell queries “Then how do you live?/Unfolding like a flower that turns its head to the sun.” As these poems unfold with keen observation, piquant language, understated elegance and deep wisdom.

Hurt Leg - 6/28/23
1: I had a dream where my right leg had been cut off mid-thigh. It had been reattached, but it hurt when I walked (most of the time).
My parents and brother came home from the store earlier than I expected. I had been watching YouTube on the TV. However, when they came back, I believe I told them I had killed someone. In my dream I remembered the person as an old woman. My mom told me she wanted to talk about it.
Before we talked, I noticed lightning outside through the backyard sliding glass door. It was coming from a glowing ball in the sky. My brother explained that it was a ball of hydrogen that had formed due to the static from the lightning. He had learned this in college. I decided to record the lightning, so I took out my camera and began to record. I made sure not to get too close to the door (which my brother or dad had opened) just in case a lightning bolt got too close. When I was recording, the camera's screen showed that the lightning was on a CRT TV screen instead of outside. However, when I stopped recording and continued watching it myself, there was no TV, just the backdoor still. After a moment, the lightning stopped, and the ball began to move to the right before falling into another part of the neighborhood where it landed. My dad jokingly said he hoped it didn't crash into anything.
Notes 1: - My brother went to college for botany, not meteorology. - The part of the neighborhood the ball fell into doesn't exist.
2: Despite waking up and falling back to sleep, I still had the same leg injury in this dream.
Someone my brother was classmates with at one point showed up to my house suddenly. He was Korean. He appeared to be much younger than he actually was, looking more like a 10-year-old, but supposedly being only a few years younger than me. He tried to talk to me in Korean, however realized I only knew English, which he switched to. He said he may learn more English and that he might ask me out someday. I wasn't planning on seeing anyone, and wanted to decline for the moment. I wanted to say, "Maybe in the future" but ended up just nodded a bit.
Later on I went outside. He showed up not long after, offering to get me a flower from my garden. I told him not now, but maybe later. He ended up leaving not long after, walking home(?) as I sat on the porch. I got up and began to look at the garden. I noticed a dove nest on the ground, some guinea pigs hanging around with the doves. I also saw a hummingbird nest in a juniper "tree."
Later on I went into the backyard to look at the garden plots out there. I noticed a cyan tulip in the brick "pot" my mom recently made for her cactus. Next to it was a much more blue tulip (though still a little green-ish). I began to look at it, taking out my camera to take a few pictures. When I reviewed the photos I took, I realized I hadn't taken any at all of the tulip. The only 5 photos on the camera were of places that were indoors. The area around the tulip began to turn into a plastic dollhouse-like structure (small, empty, but in a "house" shape with one side open). The boy showed up again. He watched as I put a finger inbetween the petals of the tulip to get a photo of the inside, gently bending the stem to get a better angle. The blue color began to fade, turning the petals pink. I made a wish in my head as this happened. There were some particles of blue that moved from the tulip to the left, which lead to a garden plot. I had flowers in this garden as well. There was a trellis with several types of climbing roses. Some of these rose plants now had light blue flowers. I went over to the trellis and looked at the flowers, commenting on how some were now blue.
The boy took one end of the trellis and stuck it further into the ground. I went to the other side and did the same. I could tell one of the poles had a rock under it, which thankfully moved with enough force. After the trellis was more secured into the ground, he thanked me, and then told me he could really go for some waffles. I told him something along the lines of, "I'll make some after my leg heals and I can stand doing it again." He told me that was a bad joke. I realized my accidental pun, saying, "Stand it" before laughing really hard. Once I stopped laughing I woke up.
Notes 2: - My brother is older than me, so his classmate in the dream should have also been older - My mom's cactus in the dream was where my garden plot in the backyard is. My garden plot in the dream is where my parents' vegetable garden is. - The reason I made a wish when the color faded from the tulip is because they say those who are in possession of a blue rose can have their wishes come true (despite the fact it was a tulip in my dream instead). - Blue tulips, like blue roses, don't properly exist (yet). - I have never grown climbing roses before. - I am impressed by how witty my subconscious was to make an accidental joke, then address it immediately afterwards.

part 2: the wild world era
The second entry to the animal crossing series came in 2005, Animal Crossing: Wild World! Wild World made many additions to the world of Animal Crossing some examples include:
- in the original game there were only 16 character options for the player to choose from (8 male and 8 female) where as in Wild World there are 256 clothing options. A hair salon and Harriet the stylist were also added allowing players to further change their appearance.
- The Slingshot and Watering Can were added each with gold variants.
- numerous holidays only seen in this game, my favourite of which being the Acorn Festival.
- Through Nintendo’s wifi connection players could visit each others towns (although this service is now defunct I’ve used DS to DS connection to show the multiplayer mode)
- The villagers became much more active and once the player had befriended them they would gift a framed photo of themselves.
- Out of the total 72 villagers in the game 18 were brand new!
The game play remained similar to the original game with new features added such as constellations to make use of the two screens on the DS. Although players were still encouraged to decorate their houses and plant trees and brews flowers to decorate with, each players experience of the game would be shaped by villager interactions rather than customization.
In terms of merchandise of this era, Nintendo held a competition to design a new villager and offered 4 unique DS consoles with Animal Crossing art as prizes. This competition was only held in Sweden and as only 4 consoles exist and not all had been photographed the designs were at one point considered lost media. Nintendo also released an animal crossing clock and calculator for the DSi that would later be accessible for the 3Ds, there’s not much to say about these so if you’re curious have a look at the wiki.
Nintendo had a few embarrassing moments with this game such as when 14 copies of the game with presaved towns were sent to members of the press for review and one copy had the changed Baabara's catchphrase to a racial slur… In another incident Nintendo had sent players a bouquet of red tulips that by a error in the programming could not be moved or removed once placed in the players house.
the entire history of Animal Crossing part 1:
In roughly 1986 Katsuya Eguchi moved from Chiba where he was raised to Kyoto where Nintendo headquarters were located. Eguchi found this move very difficult as he felt isolated in the much larger city but this loneliness would help him realize the importance of spending time with friends. Eguchi also had a harder time connecting to his wife and children as he was working late as a level designer on Super Mario Bros 3. He found that playpen video games over the same save files was a way for him to bond with his family despite their different schedules.
Eguchi would later take these experiences as inspiration as he, Hisashi Nogami, and Takashi Tezuka, directed the first Animal Crossing game (full tittle Animal Crossing: Population Growing or Dōbutsu no Mori) in 2001. The game was developed for the 64DD add-on to the N64 and was eventually released on a standard N64 cartridge. By 2001 when the game was released the N64 was declining in popularity as it was an expensive system and the game would be adapted for the GameCube (the tittle for the adapted GameCube version is Dōbutsu no Mori+).
The game itself followed the player as they move to a new town and befriend the six animal villagers influenced by Eguchi’s life. The game also used a unique file sharing system where each cartridge would only hold one town and multiple players would exist in the same village, a now infamous aspect of the series also inspired by Eguchi’s life. The game also worked off of a real world clock, which was very difficult to run on the N64 but allowed for multiple players to visit the village within one day and celebrate real world holidays in game. Although very open ended, the player is required to work for the local shop keeper Tom Nook to pay back a mortgage of 19,800 Bells (the in-game currency) and then incurred to continue working for Nook to upgrade their house.
Dōbutsu no Mori+ successful enough to garner a world wide release, released in North America on September 16, 2002, Australia on October 17, 2003, and Europe on September 24, 2004. The versions released outside of Japan were localized for western audiences, which would become one of Nintendos largest localization projects to date. Due to the efforts made by the localization team the western version of the game was rereleased in Japan as Dōbutsu no Mori e+ (the e does not stand fro English….).
Fun Fact: Dōbutsu no Mori (the N64 version) was released in China in 2006 for iQue Player. If you’re thinking “what the fuck is a iQue Player” you’re in for a story. The iQue Player was a hand held version the the N64 created by Nintendo and Taiwanese-American scientist Wei Yen as a way around Chinas bans on home video games as to prevent Nintendo games from entering the black market.
To company the games release Nintendo issues e-reader cards. These cards could be scanned and lead to intake outcomes, the outcome of a card depending on the card's type. Cards could be scanned the e-Reader on the Game Boy Advance by itself or, in Animal Crossing and Doubutsu no Mori e+ only, in-game by connecting a GBA with an e-Reader to the Nintendo GameCube.
I do not have a copy of this entry to the Animal Crossing series but below are images of the different releases of the game and its translation and my collection of e-reader cards
#this is my second favourite game in the whole series#it’s also the third best selling game in the series and the fourth best for the ds#nintendo#nintendo ds#animal crossing wild world#wild world#animal crossing

The Blessed Mother, George Hitchcock , 1892, Cleveland Museum of Art: American Painting and Sculpture
George Hitchcock decided to study art in Paris after practicing law for five years. He eventually settled in Holland and painted this Dutch peasant mother dressed in contemporary costume holding her baby and posing formally in a garden. Hitchcock was a visionary painter fascinated by the power of faith. But, like with many of his paintings, both the title and the scene here remain ambiguous, being neither clearly religious nor clearly secular. Early critics praised the work for its technical sophistication and representation of maternal tenderness, but they questioned its religious merit. Other reviewers, however, recognized religious symbolism throughout the painting. The mother's lacy headdress can represent a halo. The apple tree suggests the lost Eden, recovered through the birth of the child. The young bullock hints to the future sacrifice of Christ, and the prominent red tulip at the feet of the figures symbolizes the cup of sorrow. This painting's religious ambiguity exemplifies the 19th-century struggle to bring faith to terms with technical, philosophical and scientific advances, namely Darwinism. Left to search for meaning in life and a spiritual identity, many artists, like Hitchcock, looked to women and nature for a link to the divine. Size: Unframed: 160.3 x 112 cm (63 1/8 x 44 1/8 in.) Medium: oil on canvas

NEW FROM FINISHING LINE PRESS: Beast of the World by Chris Morgan
ADVANCE ORDER: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/beast-of-the-world-by-chris-morgan/
Part love song, part eulogy, part interrogation and resistance, Beast of the World chronicles Chris Morgan’s incisive exploration of biosphere in decline. These thirty-five poems scintillate with erotic engagement, grief of loss, and moments of transcendent connection. This is an urgent little book of psalms for our time, one in which Morgan articulates psychic landscapes as inextricable from the physical world. The “Beast” roaming this remarkable first collection is not only animal and machine but the human heart in its full-throated, fractured cry.
Chris Morgan’s stories have won the Sherwood Anderson Prize and the K. Margaret Grossman Award and been selected for inclusion in the Tulip Tree Stories That Need to Be Told Anthology and the Nowhere Magazine Best Writing Print Annual. His writing has been published in a wide variety of literary journals and magazines in the US and abroad, among them Mid-American Review, Literal Latte, North Carolina Literary Review, and Red Wheelbarrow. Beast of the World is his first poetry chapbook.

Penny Haywood x MC- Come with me (1/4)
Game: Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery
____________________
The time for the holidays was approaching Hogwarts. The colorful lights and gentle snowfall made paved the way for the most peaceful time of the year
A time when there was no such thing as an enemy and tensions were indeed at an all-time low
This would be an ideal time to celebrate and surround yourself with loved ones, but after a brutal sixth year, festive wouldn't be a way to describe how Y/N was feeling
It was so hard to believe that it was over, that after... everything, they were free. However, it didn't feel like a victory
In fact, it didn't feel like anything. Even Beatrice wasn't as gloom
This behavior did not go unnoticed, however. Across the Great Hall, while the Curse-Breaker was staring at their giant sandwich, their friends were plotting
Well, at least the ones who hadn't left for Christmas yet
Tulip, Liz, Tonks, and Penny were waiting on Chiara, who was holding a plate with barely eaten food
"They didn't even eat. They just took a bite to not make me feel bad..."
The silver-haired girl sighed, earning sympathy from the girls, except for Penny, who was looking back at them
Not many students were left, but Y/N was so lost in thought that they didn't notice the girls
"This isn't good. Y/N has been as lonely as Talbot"
"...Who?" Tonks asked
"The point is, there has to be something we can do to help them"
"I tried cheering them up with Puffskeins, but Y/N just ended up falling asleep..." Liz sighed in defeat
"Have you tried taking them to Hogsmeade?" Tulip suggested to Penny
"Yes, but they didn't want to go. Said there were too many memories"
There was silence after that, at least until more ideas brewed
Y/N went through unimaginable lengths to protect their friends and even ensure their happiness. After everything that happened with Rakepick and the Vaults, it was only fair that they got some of that as well
The girls were devastated to know that wasn't the case, and they made it their mission to correct it immediately
Unfortunately, every attempt at improving their friend's mood had failed, and with Christmas approaching, time was running out
Unless...
"Wait, you said Hogsmeade brought Y/N bad memories?"
Penny nodded at the question, curious to see what Tonks had come up with
"Why not take Y/N somewhere else? Maybe a change of scenery would help them"
"Brilliant idea, Tonks! It could do wonders for their health if the environment is right"
Chiara's comment earned a proud smile from the methamorphmagus, at least until Liz came in with another question
"But where would it be ideal for that?"
With her hand on her chin, looking around for an answer. Her blue eyes eventually landed on the Christmas tree that was decorating the place
That's when she got a fragment of what could be an idea. She just needed a bit more intimation
"Where are you going on Christmas?"
The girls seemed to pick up on this idea, but their reactions didn't help much
"Y/N L/N is one of my best friends, I wouldn't let them anywhere near my parents"
With Tulip's parents working for the Ministry and Y/N being...well, Y/N, it only made sense
" I'm staying to help Hagrid look after the creatures"
Liz's statement made Chiara look at her with surprise
"And I will learn from Madam Pomfrey. Maybe we can get together for lunch!"
The silver-haired girl smiled at the idea as soon as she heard it
"I'd love that!"
The girls' excitement only made Penny worry, seeing as her options were running out. But that's when she thought about what she'd be doing in the holidays
Visiting the countryside, away from conflict and just near family and friends from a nearby village
"Then I'll ask Y/N to come with me for the holidays!" She thought out loud, gaining the attention of her friends
"You sure your parents would let you?"
"I'll send them an owl to ask them. Hopefully, they'll say yes"
Shortly after that, her gaze shifted to the student at the table
"But first, the guest of honor"
Without further due she approached Y/N and sat in front of them, her presence making then snap out of it
"Oh. Hey, Penny"
She returned the greeting with a smile
"Hi, Y/N. How are you today?"
"I'm holding up. I thought you'd be going with your family for Christmas"
This provided Penny the opportunity she was looking for, and she wouldn't waste it
"Actually, that's what I came here to talk about"
The suspense that accompanied that statement made Y/N look at her with concerned eyes
"Is everything alright?"
The Hufflepuff picked up on this and gently smiled at them
"Oh yes, don't worry about it. See, I was thinking..."
A sigh left her soft lips before she finally allowed herself to be as honest as she could with Y/N, or at least enough to proceed
"You've done far too much for us, especially this year, and while it has been difficult, it's been even worse for you"
"That's...a way to describe it, yes"
"But you deserve to enjoy this breath of fresh air, Y/N, and I was wondering if you..."
If she had their attention, now she also counted with their curiosity
"Yes?"
Her blue eyes met their e/c eyes as she finally asked what she came there to know
"If you'd like to come to the countryside with me for the holidays"
Penny waited for Y/N to politely decline the invitation as they would probably do given their mood
However, something that the young lady didn't account for was that talking to her would always help to cheer them up, even now
So rather than declining such an offer, Y/N showed surprise
"Really? You want me to go with you?"
Their reaction was as if they had forgotten just how much they meant to Penny, but seeing this change in behavior gave her the boost she needed to continue
"Of course! There's nobody else I'd rather spend them with"
She could tell that the curse-breaker was moved by her words, but also that they were seriously considering her offer. It was only a minute, but it felt like an eternity to the blonde witch
"Well, I could use the scenery change"
There she was, the confirmation she needed to get started. Penny got up and flashed one of the brightest smiles Y/N had ever seen
Not literally of course, but he had to be dead for it not to be heartwarming
"Brilliant! I'll send an owl to my parents to tell them about it. I'll tell you when we're leaving and...Y/N?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you for giving me this opportunity"
Without further due, she left the Great Hall and headed straight to her Common Room so she could write a letter asking her parents if Y/N could indeed tag along
Penny would explain that they were responsible for saving Hogwarts on multiple occasions, including the Haywood sisters themselves and also the fact that they didn't quite deserve to spend such a gloomy Christmas by themselves
The owl left as soon as she delivered the letter. Fortunately, the weather was calm enough for it to fly normally and there weren't as many letters going around
It took a day for Penny to receive an answer, and what she saw made her squeal with overwhelming joy. Y/N would spend the holidays with them
For Y/N it might be just a change of scenery, but for her? It was all she wanted
To spend the best time of her year surrounded by the people she loved the most, no exceptions
And so, she went to find Y/N and tell them that the time to leave was near...after eating breakfast, of course
They all ate together and wished Y/N a pleasant trip. One could tell that more than saddened by their departure, they were glad they were taking their time
Except for Alanza, she wouldn't let go, literally. Even if she wouldn't admit it, that made Penny a bit jealous
Regardless, the Haywood sisters and Y/N found themselves walking into the Hogsmeade train station, with their baggage included
The plan was to take the train, get to a specific location where they'd meet Penny's parents, and from there continue with the holidays
Nothing Penny hadn't done many times before, so it wasn't all that complicated to follow
"I'm so glad you agreed to come with us, Y/N!"
"I think you'll find the countryside rather charming. Even I still enjoy it" Beatrice added
"Then I guess I really have to see it for myself"
"You'll love nature in there, it's so relaxing. There, let's find a seat!"
Penny grabbed Y/N's hand out of instinct as she guided them through the station, with Beatrice not far behind, chuckling at the sight of it
Plenty of things had taken place during their sixth year at Hogwarts, most of them dreadful, but one exception was Beatrice's relationship with both Penny and Y/N themselves
While still adjusting to her new self, she found comfort in the curse-breaker's company and help. Now she was ready to move on
And it showed, while they were all waiting for the train, the chatter was not gloomy or resentful, but rather charming instead
It even brought some semblance of normality
Something that seemed like such a rare commodity nowadays
Fortunately, they didn't have to wait long for the train to arrive. They had timed their arrival perfectly, which was a relief considering that the station's clock cannot be relied on
It didn't take long for them to find a place to sit while the journey began, Penny and Beatrice sat on one side and Y/N on the other. Regardless, the window provided a breathtaking view of the landscape
As if the mountains and fields weren't beautiful enough, the snow gave them a refreshing new look. That was perhaps the best thing about winter, it made everything look brand new, even if it was older than you
An hour and a half went by with nothing to report. A hint of orange had taken over the scene, reminiscing the colors of the past season in a gentle way
Beatrice fell asleep in no time, practically leaning on her sister, who was reviewing potion materials when she noticed this
"Hey Y/N? Do you mind if I sit with you?"
The curse-breaker, on the other hand, was reading a book that Madam Villanelle recommended for the long trip. They lowered the book to look at the blonde and immediately understood what she meant
And so, Y/N moved so that there was enough space for Penny. She wanted to give her sister more space to get some rest...and it was also the perfect excuse to scoot a bit closer
"Thanks!"
In a swift motion, the blonde gently laid her sister to rest and got up, switching seats so that she was now beside her other companion
Said companion found themselves unable to return to their book, as the light that made it through the window highlighted Penny's delicate features
From the way her braids were done, to the softness and color of her lips, and more importantly, her joyful attitude
Y/N found themselves lucky just to be witness to this, but it also came to them that so far, they hadn't said anything to the girl, they had just tagged along
Perhaps now would be the right time to correct that
"Penny?"
The delicate way her name left Y/N's lips got her attention in seconds, and when she saw them put away their book, Penny was genuinely intrigued
"Yes?"
They scratched the back of their neck as words failed to come out at first, but after a sigh, that was no longer a problem
"Thank you for taking me with you. I mean it"
She gave them a sympathetic smile, she knew why she was doing this and didn't feel like she was owed anything
"There's no need to thank me, I didn't want you to stay alone in the castle"
"I'm not precisely alone, but I get what you mean"
"You didn't have to do it"
This time, both of them shook off the nervousness
"But I wanted to. You saved Hogwarts, Y/N, but you also saved my word. I want to share it with you"
The curse-breaker didn't know how to answer that. Although their surprised expression and later smile said everything
Penny spared them of the silence and chose to continue, with a softer approach this time, and one closer to the truth as well
Her truth, of course
"Besides, I like spending time with you outside the school. Like that time we went to the dragon reserve"
Y/N chuckled at the memory of that "field trip", choosing to focus on the less lethal parts of it, but also going with the flow of the conversation
"That time when we roasted marshmallows together and slept in an oversized tent?"
"Exactly! But...less dangerous"
They laughed at this comment, taking the opportunity to go over the events of the last year together
Not only the dragon reserve but also getting to welcome Alanza to the school, the times they had snuck out together to investigate or just talk in the Courtyard
It wasn't a Celestial Ball or a tournament, but there was no denying those small moments
Of course, it had been a dark year, but it wasn't one without its lighter moments, and even if Y/N couldn't find enough of them, Penny would provide light, for both of them
This chatter lasted for at least another hour, soon, both of them returned to their respective books, smiling tiredly after making the journey much sweeter
But then, after a few minutes of reading, the Hufflepuff felt a gentle weight on her shoulder. Glancing over, she discovered the familiar h/c hair so close to her
Did...did Y/N just fall asleep on her shoulder?
Yes, yes they did
And they looked so peaceful as well
Penny found herself smiling fondly at this
" I could use a little rest..." She thought
Penny didn't think it twice before she closed her book, putting it to the side
Then, she got comfortable and snuggled closer to Y/N, allowing herself to cuddle up and just...close her eyes too

Air Rights
The French Church--- never much on looks, red brick leaning in the direction of Romanesque---
settled into modest circumstances how many decades on West 16th? Nothing divine in the details,
veneer peeling from doors never meant for here, never open. No light, evenings, through colored glass,
though by day you could discern, twenty feet above the sidewalk, Christ stepping onto the waters of Galilee,
sea and savior oiled by exhaust, nearly indistinguishable. Weeknights, downstairs, a dozen groups renounced
at length crystal or alcohol, skin or smoke, and what each circle resisted glowed at the center of their ring of chairs,
nearly visible; there you could consecrate relinquishment, or find someone already ruined to pursue whatever made you, for the night,
unsinkable. The rent, collected each time they passed the hat, kept the church afloat. Of the congregation eight souls remained,
Haitian evangelicals. Only once I saw someone mount the stairs toward those slapdash doors
---who could have missed her? Under a plane tree clearly considering giving up all ambition, an idling towncar’s
rear door opened, she stepped out, and I knew at once that if she’d ever been thwarted, she simply summoned
more of some alloy of metal and will she drew up from beneath the pavement, maybe from Haiti itself, from generations
that stood unbending in her. In her green hat, in the forgiving archways of her dress, her capacious black purse,
she conquered the stairs, and raised her hand to open the door. Just once. The meeting schedule disappeared
from the basement entry’s wire-gridded glass, the rooms stayed dark, addicts no longer smoking and talking under the miserable tree.
Twilights, before they were gone, I’d walk through a climate so thick I could almost taste it, meet the gaze of men whose eyes locked
into mine. Was this the night they knew was coming, the night they’d fall? I recognized them, I wanted
to put my hand into the wound at their sides, that we might be real to one another. A barrier went up
around the entry, papered with signs and permits, and an ‘artist’s rendering’ ---fourteen stories clad in bluestone,
suspended above the somehow freshened brick of the church. A flyer in our vestibule said they’d sold
the space between their sanctuary and heaven for a cool eight million, and units in what would be
the highest stepped-back Nineveh tower on our block: raise the faithful high, plunge the neighbors into shadow.
Lord thou preparest a banquet for me... Workers boxed the plane tree’s trunk in a cage of 2 x 4s, heavy equipment scooped
a new foundation, hammered the pilings in. How do they stand it, in Cairo or Rome, when any shaft in sand reaches down
five thousand years? Bad enough in New York: artifacts of quarantine and revolt, bullets that did or didn’t strike rioters,
squatters or immigrants, Irish or black. Cemetery slabs etched with the hex of David’s star. Oyster middens,
pipe-stems, crockery stamped with eagles and shields. And in the Historical Society, dug from a site like this one,
an object I can’t forget, nightmare thing, its plutonium half-life still ticking: brass shackles,
superbly made, locked into place by a brass bar, sized to fit the wrists of a child.
That sign the angel placed outside of Eden, forbidding re-entry? No arrow, but these joined zeroes
fetched up out of the mud, their poison seeping into the groundwater. The backhoe clawed,
rebar spiked its way up, and some days traffic stopped while the concrete mixer’s rotating drum poured into place more
of the solid substance of our block. The city stopped work more than once. I saw, where they’d poured the footing
a little short, workers float a three-inch layer along the top of the foundation: sure to crack, maybe one day bring the whole thing down?
Though walking home, after hours, late winter, I found towering at midnight’s center a vertical representation of heaven,
nine episodes of the exaltations of light: builders’ lamps diffused by silver ceiling joists, filtered through layers of tarps,
an unfinished model of the spirit’s progress, a pilgrim ladder. Where did it lead? Each story occupied a rectangle
of what once was formless, unglazed windows opening on a flecked and spattered galactic swirl...
Up there above the streets, might not desire be articulated, spoken till seen through?
Half-finished, swathed in black netting, translucent scrims veiling the lights left burning within, that building
would never be so beautiful again. Thank you, Haitian evangelicals, for that. Now the Bradford pears open
dusty blooms against a scaffolding crowning the new Barney’s down the block, and black girders sketch out more floors
above a French Church caged in spars of steel, wave-walking Jesus shadowed by the bristling supports
of a terrace just above. Do the faithful look up toward a future in a world of light, more square feet? More power to them;
who doesn’t want a privacy to fill with memory or anticipation, room for the self to billow out in dreaming?
The shadow pooling the street’s grown cooler, gained in depth. Sometimes I walk a city block and notice everyone’s
looking at a screen, or talking to someone who’s somewhere else, so that here seems to thin out, dispersed and characterless.
I miss the addicts. I’ve done time in that school of longing and resistance, a sometime citizen of the knot
I threaded nights on my way to anywhere, under what the builders have chopped to a lame, broken arm of a tree.
Nearly everything we said beneath it concerned our endless desires, the thing that doth shine and so torment us,
our coins passed from hand to hand until their inscriptions all but wore away. Those old longings---at least we said them
to each other. We are of interest to one another, are we not? The evangelical woman, in her superb hat, will she look down
from that glassy paradise and find me of interest, or the men and women who unroll blankets over flattened cardboard
under Barney’s stainless awning, its steel-cloud sheen? They sleep and dream before a chamber gleaming with refusal
all night, inviting no one in, sealed plate glass displaying ---ready?---necklaces, shown on featureless,
streamlined busts, under relentless halogen, to foreground shine. Ten feet away, tulips fenced in iron spear-tips wrap
wings around their furnace flames, heat drawn up from the center of the earth; a strength never bridled yet,
even the mutilated tree aura’d in a froth of green. No intention to quit, none whatsoever.
The new tower’s blank surface offers fewer chances to engage, an old church’s ramshackle intimacy
shrinks beneath what we all see coming: a seamless façade interested only in itself, dwarfing the red brick it doesn’t crush
because---why should it? The air rights are for sale. Fit yourself around whatever it is you want, pay them some fraction
---enormous, in their eyes, but nothing to the unreal numbers you’ll accrue; build, and keep on display what you
swallowed to erect this chilly Babel tower on my block. I’m all judgment, I know; the Congregation won’t regret the sale
of light and air, and those who sleep on Seventh Avenue, their midnights raked by precious glitter
---on the space between their skulls and the empyrean, no one puts a price. The new tower’s a glacial expanse.
The tulips ember in their spiky bed. We dwell down here in shadow and in spring.

Any specific Maeiso scenes you can think of in the anime? Just wanted to go back through and appreciate these boys :)
Like specific episode numbers and times or what I remember at this moment because I definitely won’t be able to recall episode numbers.
At some point in the beginning after Korosensei jets off to get. . . tofu? in the first episode I think, Isogai asks Maehara about exports to which he replies booze? and Isogai is like haha sucks we’re not drinking age.
They were also eating lunch together. What kind of lunch, unclear. I think this happens a few times.
Later, in the episode where they’re doing the science experiments after Maehara and The Boys ™ try to assault Korosensei and fail, Isogai leans over and is like dude you okay? and maehara’s like yeah just. gimme a minute.
That episode where Isogai, Maehara, Kataoka, Okano, Yada, i think that’s everyone, try to sneak up on Korosensei while he’s making shaved ice and he replaced their knives with tulips and they make him plant new bulbs and while the girls are yelling at him Maehara and Isogai are staying behind and being like. . . okay then.
When Isogai and Maehara were tasked with trying to pull off an attack on Karasuma and failed horribly, and other times when they were together during gym class and trying to Throw hands for the sake of training.
Does Isogai taking care of Maehara in the background after Takaoka hurt him count as a scene?
I know in the manga, Maehara persuaded Isogai into jumping across the buildings. I don’t remember if that happens in the anime.
Also in the manga, Maehara, Isogai, and I think Okano were staking out in the trees when they were tormenting Maehara’s ex and her boyfriend.
During the summer festival, Maehara and Isogai were catching fish together and they also watched the fireworks together and later, it’s implied Isogai was feeding Maehara the fish when they were reviewing how much of a gentleman he is.
During the Okinawa trip, they were on a glider together and Korosensei was dressed as an. engineer? jiro something and Maehara’s like WHOMST and Isogai explains it to him in a tired and slightly stressed manner. Also during that trip, when they came back, there’s a shot of Isogai and Maehara talking, Maehara’s probably slightly delusional and Isogai’s like it’s nothing.
I’m pretty sure there was a scene of them together when they, as a class, decided HEY LET’S SHIP OUR TEACHERS.
When Isogai’s time to shine happened in . . . episode 5 of season 2? and Maehara’s following him around and telling him YOU DON’T HAVE TO LEAVE SCHOOL WE’LL WIN THE SPORTS FESTIVAL.
When the boys were making the Peeper Roomba looking thing and Maehara’s helping them and Isogai and Nagisa were like yall are freaks does that count i think of it as Isogai being like you disappoint me immeasurably.
They were standing next to each other for a minute during the pool episode is that a scene.
I’m pretty sure they were hanging around each other during the civil war and they had their declaration of sides together oh and they were both holding back Karma.
They leaned in on the screen together when the space data came back.
They were both looking at Takebayashi with pity when the kids pantsed him.
I’m sure they got together during the imaginary test wars but i don’t remember much.
After the timeskip and they showed up at the school building together.
But this is just what I remember off the top of my head.
