As the night erupted with good cheer and the display of many perfected skills by the hands of the beautiful ladies of court, Jane remained hidden behind the cousins of her Dudley kin. In lappings of ivory, her eyelashes flush against the veil that seemed woven into her butter blonde hair, Jane cradled her patience with modesty, the gentle hazel of her gaze flickering from the ground to the passing monument of the King, who presented himself as the grand Sun God of Apollo — his look alone leaving all to stare with gaping mouths, as if history itself was taking place before them beneath the roof of Hampton Court. Jane, who had never seen someone so grand, could not help but steal glances towards the crown in the same way a sinful man could not avoid the temptation of something desired. Piercing the soft skin of her hands with crescent moons from her nails, Jane tried to look away, as if to tear herself from the King in order to look instead to her cousins who all seemed so decadent as Amphitrite, Poseidon and Selene.
The other men, who were lounging with glee to be entertained by the ladies of Grecian luxury, had remarked upon the lady woven in white — whispering then to the King, that she seemed to look at no one else but he. @boleynsrex

A letter is presented to Queen Mary of Spain by a messenger, the parchment is closed by a wax seal pressed with Elizabeth’s ring, “By the good grace of Princess Elizabeth,” they announce, before leaving presently. The letter is small, and without such ceremony, for what Elizabeth wants from this reception is a familial, sisterly connection thus shared ever since Mary had once been part of her household at Hatfield. @lareinamaria
To mine dearest sister, Mary
Presently I must asketh for thy forgiveness for not being among the welcoming party at Dover, but as thee well knoweth, a Tudor must occupy the seat of Hampton Court if 't be true England is not to go to ruin. I wish that your journey wast well, that thy reunion with thy children is as joyful as one would hope and thy husband is in valorous health. At which hour the time cometh, I would embrace thee into mine arms as I didst at which hour I wast but your smallest sister all those years ago. Though Hatfield is presently kept bare but for a few people to warm the rooms, I should invite thy Majesty to mine own chambers kept at Court whilst I remain by invitation of our brother, his Majesty, upon thy returneth to Hampton whither thee wilt beest mine own honoured guest. May God see thee safe to mine door.
Thy ever loving sister, Elizabeth

Queen Cersei Lannister
absolutely never would have anticipated how many times i’d end up drawing cersei when I first started asoiaf but over time she has cemented herself as one of my favorite characters…
i’m forever revisiting my own designs, so here’s a second attempt at Cersei’s ruby mourning dress and a first attempt at her in her hunting greens when she goes to meet with Ned. I think hunting greens implies menswear, but I’m not certain and I could be misinterpreting…? either way I think it is more reasonable for trying to be stealthy so that’s the route I took…
#asoiaf#valyrianscrolls#cersei lannister#my art#I like this interpretation of the mourning dress better even though it’s less accurate. it fits better w the style of briennes dress#kind of a fusion of a gown and a houppelande. a little silly but I think it works#personally I don’t like tudor asoiaf fashion I think its too modern but that’s just me. so i’ve tried to make the descriptions work within#the scope of more medieval styles#or at least. fantasy medieval styles#I had a sketch of her post walk of atonement on this page but I couldn’t color it right so I abandoned it for now#maybe i’ll finish it later

It was no accident that the King and his heir dressed as the twin Gods Apollo and Artemis; together they put on a united, splendid front that then led the way for every other resident of Hampton to emerge as grand visions of splendour. The rest of court remained behind them as shining objects, perhaps, but no one sought the spotlight more than they, who entered first as beacons of state, before parting to make their own waves. Making light conversation with the ones she sought to greet, it took a while — but not long — for Bess to finally fall into the seat beside her brother, her laugh still spilling from her lips after a particular conversation shared with her ladies who were given leave for moments of the night to spend on their own making.
By William’s side, Elizabeth removed her hat with care, the crescent moon of Aretemis’ diadem twinkling beneath the light, her smile then pleasantly stuck on her face. “Dear brother, have you danced yet?” She asked, leaning forward to take her own cup, gesturing for a man to fill it as she looked down the table towards their mother and her husband, the dark onyx of her stare fleeting then back to William himself. “Don’t tell me that you are in a sour mood once more? No, I won’t hear it. Have another glass and eat something sweet, then tell me of your plans.” @boleynsrex

Ever since the passing of the most devout Maud Green, Alice had felt a kinship to the daughter of the last Queen of England. Mostly, because her mother had always spoken of the fairness of Catherine of Aragon, the stories woven into nighttime hymns, the higher grasp of wanting to do well by her mother a constant yearn to her very soul. Even after her death, Alice had found it easy to put some of the love reserved for her kin to the royal-blooded Princess before she thus became a Queen of Spain. Compared to her siblings, it was Mary Tudor who seemed to glimmer with the blood of Ancient Gods — a royal quality not forged but only born into. By that fact alone, Alice swore her fealty, even if the manner of religion was far from the Viscountess’ own interests. What remained was survival, the constant dance played beneath her feet — the burning fires a threat to both herself and her family who were part doomed to the name of Seymour and part aligned with the quick-wit of a Parr.
Though she had been far from prepared by an Iberian visit to the English Court, Alice took care in the way she presented herself, with haste she read the letters sent from her niece who had been among the receiving party at Dover, preparing her fingers and neck with the jewels given to her mother by the hand of the last Queen of England — though, there was no reality where she emerged grander than Mary Tudor, who had the entirety of the country at a stand still, as if waiting with bated breath. “Your Majesty,” she greeted, when faced with the Queen, her curtsy as low as she could muster, her eyes bowed towards the floor before she was received. “You may not remember me, but my mother was a loyal Lady to Her Majesty, Queen Catherine. And I welcome you upon your home shores now, to let you know that you have been dearly missed.” @lareinamaria

Wolf Hall + Art Anne of Cleves by Bartholomaeus Bruyn the elder
The portrait was purchased in c.1734 by the then President and major benefactor of St John’s, William Holmes, for his private collection, and then acquired for the College by his successor as President, William Derham, in 1748. The sitter was only identified in print as Anne of Cleves as late as 1855, in J. W. Burgon’s Arms of the Colleges of Oxford. The date and authorship of the painting long remained debatable. Following major conservation work on the portrait in 1989/90, the conservator Candy Kuhl and the then Keeper of Pictures at St John’s, Professor Peter Hacker, persuasively argued in the Burlington Magazine for the date in the 1530s at the court of Cleves, before Anne came to England to marry Henry.
