Tudor Week 2023
Day 1: Favorite Tudor Rivalry: Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn
"She [Catherine] replied that ... it was against her conscience to give her jewels to adorn a person who is the scandal of Christendom, and a disgrace to the King." - Catherine on Anne, according to Ambassador Eustace Chapuys, October 1, 1532
"She said that she did not care anything for the Queen, and would rather see her hanged than acknowledge her as her mistress." - Anne on Catherine, according to Chapuys, January 1, 1531

TUDOR WEEK 2023: Day 1: Favourite Tudor Rivalry
Henry VIII of England, Charles V, Francis I of France
'Despite appearances, [Henry VIII] had never really taken to Francis—who offered, apart from anything else, too much serious competition. For Charles, on the other hand—who was still only twenty—he felt a genuine affection. After his visit to England the young man had written a letter thanking him and Catherine warmly for their hospitality, and in particular for the advice Henry had given him “like a good father when we were at Cantorberi”; and it may well be that the King, who was, after all, already his uncle, did feel in some degree paternal—or at least protective—towards him. What seems abundantly clear is that Charles endeared himself not only to Henry but to all who were with him, in a way that Francis, with all his swagger, had completely failed to do.' (x)

#frances does say her mom was queen of france and john points out it was for a few weeks#tt changed that all and also erased all of their children except for one#my poor ship#the tudors#my lady jane

Obligatory fancier outfit that must be present anytime I post outfits
#self#fantasy costume#If I had the money for a custom tailored fantasy-ish victorian-ish suit instead of piecing together random thrift store items with like walm#rt halloween costume type jackets and stuff..#unstoppable.....#I would actually lean more straight up historical with my wardrobe it's just that everything I own basically is thrifted aside from a very#small portion of things (like usually socks for example I get from ebay. wigs from ebay. things that it's hard to find in thrift stores. etc#) and I rarely ever find stuff like that at the bins. Your closest bet is like. hopeing that the week you come in just so happens to also be#a week that a church costume department recently donated a bunch of old stuff. but I just haven't really had much luck finding like fancy ve#sts and suit coats and cloaks or like tunics and etc. etc.#Styles like mori kei or cult party kei are pretty accessible and easy for places like the bins (where youre usually digging through piles of#curtains and fabric scraps and doilies anyway). but finding like.. a straight up tudor england costume or something is . VERY rare#Sometimes you do find halloween costumes. Or like. stuff that's clearly like cheap 'Goth' stuff from shein or aliexpress that someone has do#nated and they can be a LITTLE okay in terms of usable for costumes. But you rarely find actual good quality stuff. obviously because like#real very good quality historical costumes are expensive and most people aren't just like 'yeah dump it off to goodwill' lol#In an ideal world though I would have fancy top hats and neck ruffles and stuff .. know this ghhjbhj#Lack of that will not stop me from taking picturesin basically the same outfit 6000 times though. My one single silky black vest and#one of the two solitary ruffly neck shirts I have every been able to find.#Pointy-ish little boots that I put with everything even thogugh they look terrible up close because they're literally like over 10 yrs old#I bought them so long ago and the black fake leather lining is like peeling off of the outside#ANYWAY#he's back again... the same little generic like elf vampire ruffle shirt with vest look.. might as well be the same guy#I support him and his dumbass disintegrating shoes anyway

In 2013, Dave Filoni revealed that Satine's story originally looked very different from the Lawless arc. Details were sparse but fans learned that the Duchess wore beskar, took the title of Mand'alor, and had to ally with Death Watch to defeat a greater enemy. When George Lucas decided instead to bring Darth Maul back, Satine's original final arc was scrapped.
This is that story.
This fic has been a long time coming and posting the first chapter is the scariest thing I’ve ever done, but I invite you along on this ride!
Thanks to @the-obiwan-for-me for putting up with me telling you about my plan for this for two years, and all my love to the Obitine Discord server for support and encouragement.

so i was going through the pages of the scriptbook i own of elizabeth (1998) and i wanted to check out how the scenes were played out in the film, one thing i noticed however was this one in particular:
it's the scene right before elizabeth is taken to the tower, where she and robert share a moment together. it says on the screenplay that he gives her his chain and she clasps it tightly, now i went back to that bit in the film and i noticed something:
this is the frame where he tells her "remember who you are," it then cuts to a shot with him facing her
notice how the chain around his neck is gone? so yeah i am PRETTY SURE they actually filmed the scene but it didn't make it to the theatrical cut. gosh why (especially if you think about how this is quite significant to the way elizabeth and robert's relationship is early in the movie and what they mean to each other!)
the thing is, i think you can also see her wearing it (i assume i guess) in these scenes that follow after
for all the historical faults and distortions the film had i honestly would have killed to see more scenes between them, especially in the first half of the movie before it really does go wonky lol and with something just as simple as that it showcases a teeny bit more on the relationship they had in my opinion
#i've been wanting to post about this for weeks but i've been so busy lol anyways here you go#historical films#movies#period films#period dramas#90s movies#elizabeth 1998#cate blanchett#joseph fiennes#elizabeth tudor#elizabeth i#robert dudley#elizabeth x robert#otp: for i have lived and so will die only hers#movie mayhems#maria rambles#tudor films#tudor period dramas

Tudor Week 2023, Day 7: Favourite Tudor Mentor/Mentee Relationship.
Margaret Pole (1473-1541) and Mary I (1516-1558). Margaret and Mary were first cousins, twice removed, although Margaret is better known as Mary’s governess during her time as de facto Princess of Wales.
[Margaret] would never have done, or approved of, any act that would have been prejudicial to the interests of Princess Mary or her mother. - Margaret Pole, Countess of Salisbury 1473 - 1541; Hazel Pierce.
Although Margaret's appointment as Mary's governess promised to be a successful arrangement, her association with the princess was not constant. Although she was to play an important and significant role in Mary's life, this did not really begin until much later, as her first appointment of governess was of limited duration. In post by May 1520, she lost the office again by 24 July 1521 and did not regain her position until 1525, but this second appointment would last for eight years until she was dismissed again in 1533. - Margaret Pole, Countess of Salisbury 1473-1541; Hazel Pierce.
Having been treated with deference herself as a young princess of the House of York, she was able to identify with Mary and help her cope with her position. - Margaret Pole, Countess of Salisbury 1473 - 1541; Hazel Pierce.
On returning from her chamber [Mary] said to the Duke [of Norfolk] that since the King her father was so pleased, she would not disobey him, begging him to intercede with the King for the recompense of her servants, that they might have at least a year's wages. She then asked what company she should bring. The Duke said it was not necessary to bring much, for she would find plenty where she was going; and so she parted with a very small suite. Her [governess], daughter of the late duke of Clarence, and near kinswoman to the King, a lady of virtue and honor, if there be one in England, has offered to follow and serve her at her own expense, with an honorable train. But it was out of the question that this would be accepted. - Eustace Chapuys to Charles V; 16 Dec 1533.
I did not wish to dispute with him on the subject [of Mary being cared for by her mother], but asked that he would at least put the Princess under the care of her old [governess], the countess of Salisbury, whom she regarded as her second mother. - Eustace Chapuys to Charles V; 25 Feb 1534.
[At her execution, Margaret] spoke, commending her soul to God and asking those present to pray for the king, queen, Prince Edward and Princess Mary. Her devotion to Mary had not diminished during their years of separation and the sufferings Margaret had undergone partly on her behalf. Of all the royal family, it was to Mary that she wished to be especially commended, sending her blessing and begging for hers in return. - Margaret Pole, Countess of Salisbury 1473 - 1541; Hazel Pierce.
#Tudor week 2023#yes this is a few days late but I didn’t have the effort to make a proper post at first#why not do it now lol#margaret pole#countess of Salisbury#Mary I#Tudor week 2023 day 7
