Shakespeare Genre Battle: Histories
I'm doing all of them. Don't worry if yours isn't in this poll.
I am including some things with disputed authorship, collaborations, and apocrypha just because.

Portrait of Sir Thomas More
Artist: Hans Holbein the Younger (German, 1497/1498–1543)
Genre: Portrait
Date: 1527
Medium: Oil on Oak Panel
Collection: The Frick Collection, New York City, NY, United States
Portrait of Sir Thomas More
The portrait shows the English statesman and humanist Thomas More in three-quarter right half-profile, holding a book, in a fur-lined coat of rich fabrics, black satin, and red velvet. He wearing his Tudor Collar of Esses livery chain with Tudor rose, a sign of fealty and high office. A cord in the upper right is tied in a loose Franciscan knot, a sign of More's spiritual convictions. He is wearing a wedding ring inset with a stone.
The work was created during the period from 1526 when Holbein lived in London. He gained the friendship of the Dutch humanist Desiderius Erasmus, who recommended that he befriend More, then a powerful, knighted speaker at the English Parliament.
A closely related, though probably not directly preparatory, drawing with body colour is in the Royal Collection, and there is a copy in the National Portrait Gallery, probably "painted in Italy or Austria in the early seventeenth century". Possibly this is the version catalogued in the Leuchtenberg Gallery in 1852.

King Henry VIII's first Catholic martyr, Thomas More is admired by all faiths. For refusing to sign the Act of Supremacy, he was beheaded.

A (still great, always relevant) quote from Sir Thomas More (and also Drew Barrymore in Ever After, arguably the best retelling of Cinderella of all time) follow me on IG, support a two-full-time-job-having-rent-and-bill-paying-broke-ass college student on my Etsy account if you feel like it. For if you suffer your people to be ill-educated, and their manners to be corrupted from their infancy, and then punish them for those crimes to which their first education disposed them, what else is to be concluded from this, but that you first make thieves and then punish them.

Old St Baranabas’ Day/ St Thomas More’s Day
Tumblr media
Sir Thomas More. Source: Wikipedia
Today is Old St Baranabas’ Day and St Thomas More’s Day. We covered Barnabas on 11th June. Sir Thomas More was King Henry VIII’s chancellor and could not bring himself to accept the marriage of the King to his second wife Anne Boleyn as anything less than blasphemous. Despite the efforts of many to make Sir Thomas change his mind, he was eventually executed for his opposition to the Henry’s queen and his new Church of England. Sir Thomas’ severed head was displayed on Tower Bridge until his daughter succeeded in obtaining it and took it for Christian burial to Bayards Park in Surrey. From his new place of rest, Sir Thomas soon went a-haunting. Sir Thomas was canonised by the Roman Catholic Church in 1935.
Old St Baranabas’ Day was the traditional date for the Boroughbridge Horse Fair in North Yorkshire, popularly known as Barnaby Fair. The charter granting the fair goes back to 1622, but by the 1980s, the modern world had little use for horse trading fairs and by 1989, it was no more.
