The way we only ever see the bedtime story moment of Allison’s life with Claire does a real disservice to their relationship. Over and over Allison reminds us verbally that she has a daughter and that she loves her, but the only interaction we get to see is her putting Claire to bed, and it ends with a moment of regret for Allison when she remembers using her powers against her.
If there had been more prominence given to this relationship with more variety of interactions it would have felt so much more real and (giving the fandom a lot of benefit of the doubt here) I think people would have been more empathetic to Allison in season 3 if Claire felt more significant in the narrative.

Some thoughts about s1 ep8/9: Harold Jenkins/Leonard Peabody is such a good villain, possibly/factually the best in the series, but do you ever wonder how that original timeline went? When they were together minus Five, Leonard's manipulation worked exactly like he planned it to, give or take the apocalypse. Maybe Allison did die in that timeline, because Five didn't give them his name from the Commission, and they got to the cabin late. (Strike that bit! @big-ball-o-twine reminded me that Five found her body, ofc.) Leonard had more time to isolate Viktor and managed to get ahold of a black market glass eye to boot.
If he hadn't panicked, he wouldn't have been so desperate and reveal his hand, and maybe talked Viktor into storming the Academy with him in tow. Luther ripped out his eye(why?? theories please), Viktor (on Leonard's side) still freaks out and ends the world(??). Same result but a darker end for sure. I'd be curious of Leonard's body was in the academy ruins somewhere, but you'd think Five would have found it and made that connection sooner.
The dude really played it smart for a psychopath, up until he lets it out that the murdered someone for Viktor, so it's not hard to see how that would have played out. Really lucked out stealing Reggie's journal so he could study it and perfectly manipulate Viktor by teaching him what he already read about his powers.
The realistic way he's played and how terrifyingly familiar he seems (compared to most of the outlandish villains of the show) are what really make that first season work. It may not be as FUN as the others, but hey, it makes it so interesting to think about.
I could write a lot more about Leonard, but he's a creep and I don't know how much interest there is in that. But you have to admit, he's rightfully scary.
Other things:
Five trying out the glass eye on Leonard's body and saying it had "finally found its rightful home" then immediately removing it is comedy gold. What are you going to do with it now, my guy? Aside from save it until Klaus calls you an apocalypse-addict and break it against the wall for dramatic effect. (Anyone else take 20 rewatches to remember he smashed the eye in that scene?? Just me? Okay fine.)
Another seriously underrated moment is Diego's over-the-top takedown of Hazel to avenge Patch. It's so well choreographed, and there's no pulled punches, and it's so great juxtaposed with Five's heartfelt conversation with Hazel that follows. Truly a highlight, I love every choice that was made.
Five really shone in episode 9. Enough words have been written about his parting with Dolores, but what a great end to an amazing episode. (Right after that flash of Grace making pancakes for a struggling Diego, and Klaus trying to help Ben manifest, my heart.) If that department store threw her away stg.

The little detail about Reginald always telling them they were going to save the world some day is definitely interesting. But what’s funny is that both Klaus and Five thought it was just to get them to do simple chores like the dishes. How often did Reginald use that to make them do stuff? Just, every time they didn’t feel like doing something he told them they had to because if they didn’t they wouldn’t be able to save the world some day?

tua has such a great use of the “forest going quiet- something’s wrong here trope” with viktor’s powers and i wish they did that more. sound is really integral as a sense for hearing people to tell when things are wrong; ie. the kids are upstairs and it’s quiet they must’ve gotten into something. the forest is such an instinctual thing too. woagh themes

"unexpected resistance to [his] training" ....Reginald Hargreeves. why is that your first assumption. maybe Viktor is just bored. let's face it, you really aren't the most interesting person out there. you really are just a boring, old, piece of shit.

watching Grace ask "Who's hungry?!" in that cheery tone to Victor who had been locked up alone for who knows how long. augh. imagine having to raise your children in such conditions. imagine having to silently watch from the sidelines as they suffer through horrible abuse. imagine never even having the option to speak up or even feel displeasure at the way they are treated

It’s a little late and I finished watching the episode hours ago, but I can’t stop thinking about when Five is driving to Harold’s grandma’s cabin in the woods and Luther asks him if he can go any faster and Five’s response is, “Ask me again and I’ll burn you with a cigarette lighter.” And Luther just. Slowly shrinks back into his seat.

I just want to know, how in the world could Reginald look at tiny little Viktor who looked absolutely adorable and just. Put him in an isolation chamber? Like, I know he got a little bit hurt and realized that he could be dangerous, but how could putting him in an isolation chamber have helped?? But then again, that was the same guy that looked at a crying and terrified Klaus and kept in locking him in a mausoleum for hours so.

I completely and totally understand that Viktor was given A Lot of information to process all at once and it’s A Lot to handle. However. I really don’t think Allison really remembered something that happened when they were 4? 5? I think it’s something that flashed through her mind at that very moment and that’s how it’s done visually too.
I personally don’t remember anything from that age, and I’m younger than they are. So, I don’t think that Allison was just. Keeping the information to herself that entire time. And memories from that long ago can sometimes be confused with dreams, so she might’ve waved it off as a strange dream later on in life.
But, again, there was a lot of information thrown at Viktor all at once and his emotions were high, so of course he wasn’t think rationally. And we see that as soon as he hurts Allison because he seems to snap out of it and rush to her side. Then, Harold comes in and takes the confusion to his advantage to drag Viktor away.

“Get up, we’re going.”
“Where?”
“To save the world.”
“Oh, is that all?”
This is way too funny to me.

it’s kind of ironic that Allison’s almost-death at the hands of Viktor was directly caused by Allison being too blunt, since her powers are about mind control and you’d think she’d be much more subtle
