The Clockmaker's Son If they're going to make it across the border, they're going to need a miracle. Klaus knows this, and undertakes a risky manoeuvre to fix the damage to their airship sustained in the attack. And while successful, he pays the price, falling to what should have been his death on the outskirts of the city. Instead he wakes up eleven days later with a broken arm, in a strange farmhouse occupied by an equally strange child named Five and his eternally cheery mother, both of which people having secrets to keep.
A/N: This was written for the TUA AUgust event, of which more information can be found over at @tuaaugust. As soon as I saw steampunk as a prompt I knew I had to do it; I've never written anything vaguely steampunk/historical before, so it was great fun to explore that avenue. It also gave me an excuse to do a pretty banner haha! So, I hope you enjoy the fic! Also the amazingly talented @leave-the-pot-dear did some art which you should definitely check out!! Thank you so much, I love it!! 💛

T(UA) | Umbrella Academy x My Hero Academia Crossover
Written for @tuaaugust - Day 16: Crossover
Part 1: The Other Japan
Warnings: Strong language, mention of parental abuse, blood, emetophobia (not too graphic, nothing besides what's already in MHA), anxiety attack, Bakugou being Bakugou.
Words: 4.5 k | (Masterlist)
a/n: This crossover is based on the Eighth Child' verse and includes my OC Victoria Hargreeves. This is part 1 of 3 (?) for this story, I don't know when part 2 is coming out yet, so stay tuned. Also, this takes place in Season 1 of MHA/BNHA but let's just pretend the Heights Alliance dorms are already there for continuity purposes lol

"Children! Children, are you all ready to leave?" Mr. Hargreeves asked as the kids piled up at the top of the stairs with their suitcases.
It wasn't uncommon for Allison, Klaus, Diego, Luther, Ben, and Vicky to pack at the speed of light to get ready for a surprise trip to some other country to solve an issue happening there. That was the case with their trip to France to solve the Eiffel Tower problem, or to Hungary to deal with some terrorists.
Luckily, this time there was no criminal threatening to explode the world or anything of the sort. This trip to Japan was scheduled months prior by Reginald.
Allison and Ben would stick around to make sure if an accident does happen, the Umbrella Academy can still solve it, but the rest of them would stay with a friend of their father, some mystery man they knew nothing about.
"I didn't even know dad had friends," Klaus muttered as he climbed the stairs with his and Vicky's suitcase. "He doesn't strike me as the social type, you know?"
"Yeah, I'm kinda scared, to be honest. We're going to cross the world to meet a complete stranger, doesn't seem safe."
"Maybe he just wants to get rid of us on our birthday," Diego joked.
If Mr. Hargreeves was sending all of them on the mission, that could be a possibility, their 16th birthday was only two days away. He hated to celebrate and never allowed parties. Maybe this friend of his was less strict about that, or so they hoped.
"Say goodbye to your siblings, the jet is waiting outside," Mr. Hargreeves pointed with his monocle at the door.
"Have fun, you guys," Allison gave each of her siblings a hug, lingering on Luther.
"You lucky jerks are getting a few days off, enjoy it," Ben whispered.
"Be careful, children," Pogo warned, his voice full of concern.
"Yes, and don't forget to be very polite to your hosts," Grace kissed their foreheads softly.
After all the bits of advice and warnings, the four siblings left the house. In the courtyard, a small jet that fits exactly four people was hovering just above the ground. As per usual, they all hopped in and waited for the elaborate vehicle to take them where they needed to go.
Somehow, Reginald's trusty jets were always faster than planes, much faster actually. None of the kids knew exactly what sort of supersonic engine their father put in there or how it flew without a pilot, but it worked. In no time they were landing on top of the UA building.
Their assignment was simple, they were supposed to spend three days there giving lectures, talking about the reality of being a young superhero in America, helping the kids polish their powers, and also learning from the pros teaching there.
"HELLO CHILDREN!" a very cheerful voice called as soon as the doors opened.
Each one of them had a necklace with a small device that would allow them to understand Japanese and communicate with the students, but strangely enough, the man waiting for them was speaking their language, and very well by the way.
"Welcome to the UA!" this man was incredibly tall, as tall as Luther would be one day, insanely muscular inside his yellow suit, with blonde hair sticking up, and the biggest smile any of the kids had ever seen.
"You speak English?" Luther asked, intrigued.
"Oh yeah, I spent some time in America when I was younger, I love that place. I thought your father had explained everything."
"You are our father's friend?" Klaus grimaced, this guy seemed so cool, why would he befriend Reginal Hargreeves of all people?
"Well, acquaintance, he was closer to Principal Nezu. I am All Might, it's a pleasure to meet you," he shook each of their hands, never letting his grin falter.
"The pleasure is ours, sir," Luther bowed, as he was taught, to show respect. "I am Spaceboy, these are my siblings: the Séance, the Kraken, and Die Hard."
"Awesome names! So nice to finally meet the famous Umbrella Academy, the students are really excited," All Might exclaimed. "Please follow me, I will show you to your rooms. I apologize in advance, we were expecting two girls and two boys, so we only have two rooms prepared."
"Our sister, the Rumor, was supposed to come instead of me, but uh... Dad said she was more useful, asked her to stay behind and fight crime if necessary," Klaus explained, it wasn't the first time his dad insinuated he was useless, so he didn't mind anymore. "We are totally fine with two rooms, I can share with Die Hard."
On their way to the dormitory, every student stopped to watch the honor guests coming through. They were hypnotized by the pristine uniforms, domino masks, and confident attitude... These American kids seemed like the real deal, top superheroes at that age? It was really impressive.
"There are so many students here, I had no idea there were more people like us," Luther commented, smiling and waving at the young girls watching him with a dreamy look on their faces.
"Absolutely, 80% of the population has a quirk. I guess you call them powers, right?" All Might stopped in front of two open doors, each room had two single beds.
"What? 80%?" Vicky murmured under her breath.
"Settle in, make yourselves at home, I will see you in twenty minutes, class 1-A with Mr. Aizawa," he rushed to get away from them, panting like he just ran a marathon.
Vicky closed the door and dropped her suitcase. Klaus didn't even notice her worry, he was just happy to be away from home. For the next three days, he wouldn't get locked in the mausoleum or left in the middle of the woods at night.
"He said 80% of the population has powers, but that isn't true, at least not for us..."
"Maybe he knows something we don't."
"Do you think we're in another dimension or something?"
"Could be," Klaus mused without a care in the world, reaching for his flask. "Do you want a sip of this? I think it's whiskey, but I'm not sure."
"But what if we can't go back home, Klausie? What if the same thing that happened to Five happens to us?" she panicked.
"Then we can study here, or All Might can adopt us! He seems like he'd be a muuuuch better father than dad ever was, I wouldn't mind."
"But what about mom and Pogo? And our lives?"
"I love mom, but if that meant never ever seeing dad again, I would be fine with it. I imagined you would be too, no more insane resistance training," he wrapped his arms tightly around her middle. "Don't worry about it, Liebchen, let's just have fun. We never get to meet other kids! Maybe you could find the mister right who will give your first kiss..."
Vicky could only laugh, she knew who mister right was, he has always been right in front of her, she just never had the guts to say it. Deep inside they both knew, they've always known.
Of course the school was full of attractive young men, but even if she could find one she liked, they would have to say goodbye in three days and probably never see each other again.
——————————————————
On their way to the class, the four siblings got lost more than once, counting on the devices around their necks to ask for information. Most students were in a hurry, which didn't make it any easier, that was until they bumped into this boy...
He was not very tall, he was a little shorter than Vicky, but he was really cute. Blonde hair with one black streak in the shape of a lightning bolt, and gold-colored eyes. When she ran into him, she could've sworn there was electricity in the air.
"Gomen nasai," she mumbled one of the only things Allison had taught her. "I didn't see you, I-..."
"It's alright, don't worry," he smiled, damn he had a beautiful smile. Almost as beautiful as Klaus'. "Are you lost?"
"Yes, we're actually looking from class 1-A."
"You're in luck, that's where I'm going. I'm Denki Kaminari, nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too, I'm Vi- I'm Die Hard," she stammered as Klaus elbowed Diego, watching the scene.
"I know, we have been waiting for you, everyone is crazy to meet you guys!" he exclaimed. "You are legends! Literally, a good portion of the students thought you didn't exist."
"What?" Diego winced.
"Yeah, most of us thought you were characters from comic books. When All Might sensei told us you were coming, we thought it was a joke."
"Well, we're here... In the flesh," Victoria giggled as they entered the classroom.
The rest of the students were talking and laughing, but all of them went silent when the guests walked in. Klaus awkwardly waved at them, not used to such quiet fans.
"Umbrella Academy," Iida stood up and bowed in a robotic manner. "It's an honor to have you here. I'm Tenya Iida, class president. If you need any assistance, please let me know."
"Thanks, Iida for the... Enthusiastic introduction. Let's begin shall we?" a deep, lazy voice caught their attention. The teacher, presumably Mr. Aizawa, stood by the entrance.
He was gangly, had long (and unkempt) hair, one hell of a five o'clock shadow, and eyes so tired that one would guess the last time he slept was decades ago.
"I thought Mr. All Might was supposed to be here as well?" Luther asked.
"Yes, he had a small setback in the teacher's lounge, he will be here in a bit," Aizawa took his seat and leaned against the chair, looking like he would rather be anywhere else. "Why don't you start by telling us a little bit about your work and training routine with Mr. Hargreeves, and about your quirks?"
Luther nodded, starting a lengthy explanation about the conditions in which they were all born and adopted by Reginald, how their routines have been in the house ever since they were kids, about his super-strength training program, the qualities expected from a superhero, and the work they do fighting crime on a daily basis.
"Wow, I wish I was part of the Umbrella Academy!" a bubbly girl in the back squealed.
"No, you don't," Klaus snorted.
"Yeah, definitely not," Diego agreed, holding back a string of insults about his old man. "Our father has a very strict schedule for us, we are not allowed to break it, we can barely leave the house if not to work. Being a hero is very gratifying, but also very hard, especially in our family."
"Hell if I'd ever let a quirkless asshole boss me around like that..." a grumpy-looking blonde with folded arms grumbled, smoke coming from where his hands made contact with his blazer.
"Not like we have a choice when we're children," another kid, with a scar covering the left side of his face, nearly whispered.
"Excuse me," someone said, but none of the siblings could identify where the voice was coming from, that was until a seemingly empty uniform floated from one of the seats. It was like someone invisible was wearing it. "Did you attend any preparatory schools in America to perfect your quirks?"
"Yes and no," Vicky tilted her head, still trying to make sense of what she was seeing. "Our education was the equivalent of homeschooling for superheroes. Our father was our teacher, so we didn't attend a formal institution... Actually, I didn't know there was such a thing until very recently."
"What do your hero uniforms look like?" another girl, this one with pink skin and hair, asked.
"We... don't really have individual hero uniforms," Klaus frowned. "Depending on the threat we are dealing with, we usually just wear our regular uniforms or our standard combat suits."
Before anyone could ask any more questions, All Might walked through the door and gave the siblings a thumbs up as he joined Aizawa.
By now the lecture was nearly over, Vicky wondered what took him so long and if that was at all related to how he seemed to be out of breath after leading them to their rooms.
"How did each of you find out what's your quirk?" a boy with spiky red hair asked.
"We didn't exactly find out naturally, we were tested by our father when we were kids," Diego explained. "He would conduct experiments and monitor our brains to guide us in the right direction until he found out exactly what each one of us could do. Except for Die Hard, of course."
"It was a little different for me," Vicky blushed feeling all those eyes on her. "I didn't show any um- quirks when I was a kid, just like our sister Vanya. My father thought I didn't have one until I was 12 and Séanse here tickled me out of a window."
"That wasn't how it happened!" Klaus laughed along with the rest of the class, including the teachers. "I didn't do it on purpose!"
"He was tickling me and when he finally stopped, I ended up falling through my bedroom window. I thought I was gonna die, but I ended up damaging the concrete instead, that's how I found out that I am super resistant," she added, noticing the fascinated look this one boy with curly green hair had.
"Born quirkless..." he mouthed to himself, the biggest grin on his face.
"Spaceboy and Kraken's training makes sense for their abilities, how do you two train your quirks?" the bubbly girl in the back asked.
"Well... Our dear daddy leaves me at haunted spots for a few hours so I can communicate with the dead," Klaus tried not to scare them with how terrifying the experience really was. "But besides that, we also get the same martial arts lessons, cardio, stuff like that. This way we can fight even without using our powers."
"My training is based on endurance," Victoria continued. "I usually need to get stabbed, punched, thrown off high places, drowned, shot at, stoned... Sometimes I need to stay under a hydraulic press and just handle the weight."
"That sounds terrifying," the green-haired boy said just as the bell rang.
"Very well, thank you so much, Umbrella Academy," All Might stood up and clapped. "That was an amazing lecture you had for us. Don't forget everyone, tomorrow our guests will be back for my class and we will have combat practice!"
"Hello sir, sorry to interrupt," Vicky turned to him as the students quickly left the classroom. "We wanted to ask you a few questions about how quirks work in this... World. We have a slight suspicion we didn't simply travel to Japan."
"Sure, let's go to the teacher's lounge and I'll explain everything," he placed one hand on her shoulder reassuringly while Klaus and Diego were left behind talking to Aizawa.
As Luther and Victoria walked through the crowd of students, a few conversations were easily overheard:
"But she's cute! She's really hot!" the red-haired boy talked to Kaminari who simply laughed and nodded in agreement, making the grumpy blonde roll his eyes with a huff.
"Do you think she was born quirkless?" the boy with curly hair asked the bubbly girl.
"He's super cute, did you see that?" the invisible girl talked to the pink-skinned one. "And he's so strong..."
"I like Séanse better, he's charming," she responded.
Once they finally reached the teacher's lounge, Vicky's mind was reeling. Now besides worrying about being in another dimension, she was also worried about all the gossip going around the school concerning her and her brothers.
"If you don't mind, I'll take this off, it's so uncomfortable and I've been wearing it all day," she pulled her domino mask away from her eyes and grimaced as the light assaulted her vision. "We're all heroes, right? And I doubt this does much to hide my identity anyway."
"Precisely," All Might was glancing at the clock on the wall. "I should probably get rid of my mask as well." he chuckled. "This body isn't what it used to be anymore, I can't sustain this form for much longer."
"That's oka-" she started, but the words died in her throat as she watched his transformation.
Instead of the extremely muscular and intimidating figure they were used to, he turned into a lanky man. His hair was pointing down, he was skinny like a beanpole, his eyes were sunken and tired.
"Sir? Are you alright?" Luther asked, confused.
"Yes," he managed to splutter as he coughed, blood spewing from his mouth, but he seemed unaffected. "So, what did you kids wanna talk about?"
"AAAAAAAAAH GET AWAY FROM ME!" Victoria screamed in terror, pushing her brother out of the way.
"Die Hard!" Luther called helplessly.
"KLA- SÉANSE! HELP! GET ME AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL!" she ran out of the room, falling several times as she tried to escape, but quickly getting back up to keep running.
"Is she okay?"
"I'm sorry Mr. All Might, my sister has something called emetophobia," Luther explained. "She means no disrespect. When she first started working on her power, our father pushed her way over the limits and she ended up getting sick almost every day, left her traumatized."
"Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't know... Can I talk to her?" he looked down, feeling extremely guilty for scaring the poor girl.
"You can try, but maybe tomorrow? Give her some time to recover..."
"Yes, sure, will you please let her know I'm sorry?"
"Don't worry, sir. Die Hard is very sensitive, but not at all resentful. She'll probably forget it by tomorrow."
Meanwhile, Vicky was still running down the halls, she had never been the fastest of her siblings, but no one could match her speed at that moment.
"HEY, watch it!" the angry boy, Bakugou, shouted as she nearly ran into him on her desperate search for Klaus.
"I-I'm s-sorry," she fell to her knees once again, crying her eyes out, barely able to breathe.
"Oh shit... Are you okay?" he rolled his eyes, slightly annoyed by how dramatic she was, but also knowing it must've been something really serious to leave an Umbrella Academy member in that state.
"No! H-he- He- there was blood," she stuttered, unable to form a full sentence. "He was bleeding, I- I can't..."
"Who was bleeding?"
"I can't say," she cried.
"Then I guess I can't help you," he groaned. "Why the fuck do you even care? I thought you, of all people, would be used to seeing blood."
"You don't understand..." she was shaking.
"What have you done to my sister?" Klaus ran towards them followed by Diego, the scene looked very incriminating for Bakugou.
"Nothing! She was the one sobbing, I just tried to ask what the hell happened," the boy shouted angrily, losing what was left of his self-control and creating two small explosions from the palms of his hands.
"Fuck off! You clearly said something to her!" Diego almost lost it, shoving that asshole and transforming his precious hand grenades (or grenade hands) into Swiss cheese.
"She's too nervous," Klaus helped her up and took her in his arms. "You're making it worse, Kraken."
"And that's what I get for being nice..." Bakugou scoffed as he walked away.
"Go find Spacey," Vicky gasped and Diego nodded. Usually he wouldn't care, but just like everyone else, he got worried about what might've happened.
"What's wrong, Schnucki?" Klaus walked her outside so she could breathe. "Do you wanna get back to the dorm? We can do the 1-B lecture without you."
"No, I wanna leave, I don't wanna set foot in this school ever again. Actually, I don't even know why I came here, I wanna go home! This isn't our world, Klaus, there's something very wrong in here, I wanna go back!" she breathed, her head hurting from crying too much.
"But Japan is so beautiful, it's so cool, I thought you always wanted to visit."
"I did, before I-"
"Is everything okay?" Iida approached, bringing the green-haired kid, Midoriya, with him. "Are you injured? Do you need to see the nurse? Can I get you anything, Ms. Hargreeves?"
"She just got scared I think," Klaus sat down with her. "I don't really know what happened. But I think your little blonde friend with explosive hands had something to do with it."
"Kacchan?" Midoriya knew how cruel he could be, but also didn't understand why he would do anything to their guest.
"No, it wasn't him," Vicky finally said. "I saw someone... He looked like he was dying... I was scared, there was blood coming out of his mouth!"
Midoriya's eyes widened as he finally understood what was happening.
"What are you talking about? Was there an accident?" Iida looked around.
"I think I know. Can I maybe talk to Die Hard in private?" the other boy asked.
Klaus was doubtful for a moment, but the kid seemed genuinely nice and kind, so he simply followed the class president to the opposite side of the patio.
"Were you born with those? Must've been hard for your mother to push you out with those things," he joked, pointing at the engine exhausts Iida had on his calves.
"The person you saw... It was All Might, right?" Midoriya asked quietly. He knew he shouldn't be talking about that, but it was the only possibility he could think of.
"Y-yeah."
"There's no need to worry, he suffered an injury five years ago and it damaged his organs severely," he tried to find the right words in English to express what he wanted to say. "He can only keep his muscular form for about three hours a day, but it's always very demanding for him, so that happens when he turns back. But he's fine, at least I think he is."
"That was horrible, I- I can't handle that, I have anxiety related to..." Vicky hated to say it, she hated to explain her fears, especially because they could be weaponized against her. Being a superhero, any villain could use that information against her and the Academy.
"I understand, the first time I saw it, I had a breakdown of my own," he laughed. "All Might is one of the nicest people I've ever met, he's truly a hero, he's amazing... And if I had to guess, I'd say he's feeling pretty guilty right now."
"I didn't mean to upset him, I just couldn't help it, it's a phobia I've had since I was 12. I don't think I can come back tomorrow for the combat practice and face him."
"Please don't take this the wrong way, I know you've been doing this for so many years and you are already a top superhero, I'm just a kid trying to become one, but... Being a hero isn't about doing what you have to do fearlessly, but doing it despite the fear."
"You're right," Vicky wiped her tears, finally taking a deep breath. "I probably overreacted, I should apologize, it's not his fault... I feel like shit, I made a man with a serious injury feel bad for being injured."
"I'm sure he'll understand, Die Hard, he will be happy to see you here tomorrow if you choose to come."
"What's your name?"
"Izuku Midoriya."
"I'll talk to someone and get you some extra credit," she was able to smile.
"No, you don't have to, really," he blushed furiously. "I didn't do this expecting anything in return! Just knowing you will come tomorrow and share your knowledge is enough."
"You are an awesome guy, you are also a true hero," she pulled him into a hug, which made him yelp with surprise. She almost always forgot it wasn't common for non-Brazilian people to hug everyone. "Thank you so much, Izuku."
"No problem," he covered his cheeks to keep her from seeing the redness. "Can I ask you a question?"
"Yes, sure."
"When you first started using your quirk, how did your body react? Were there moments your body couldn't handle it?"
"No one's body was made to stand superhuman abilities, we need to take baby steps at first. When I was younger I wouldn't have been able to get shot with a machine gun, but today it just tickles."
"And how did you do it?"
"Practice, lots of it, and being mindful of my limits. Someone had to be when my dad wasn't..."
"Would you wanna have lunch with us?" Midoriya asked without thinking twice. Wanting to know more about how she managed to improve her quirk.
"Can I bring my brother?"
"Yeah, of course! I have a friend I want you to meet."
——————————————————
"Are you sure you're feeling better, Liebchen?" Klaus asked as they headed to their table with their trays.
"So much better," Victoria assured. "Thank you for being there."
"Die Hard, this is my friend Ochaco Uraraka," Midoriya introduced.
"OH MY GOD! It's really you! You're sitting with us!" the bubbly girl from earlier exclaimed. "It's so nice to meet you! I'm a huge fan!"
"Thank you, you're so sweet," Vicky grinned, her happiness was contagious and it made her forget, at least momentarily, about the incident with All Might.
"Mademoiselle, I'm Ao-"
"Eijiro Kirishima," another boy sitting at the table introduced himself full of excitement, his face lighting up.
He was the one saying I was hot earlier, Vicky thought. Or maybe it wasn't about me, this school has lots of hot girls, I'm probably being stupid.
"Anyway," the last boy drawled. He reminded her of Klaus a little bit, with how flamboyant they both were, always trying to catch everyone's attention with their dramatic flourishes. "I'm Yuga Aoyama, enchanté! May I add that you both look so much better in person than in the comics..."
As she listened to the boy blabbing and Klaus joining in, matching his energy perfectly, she couldn't help but look around, unconsciously searching for Kaminari in the crowd, but that cafeteria was gigantic, it would be impossible to find him.
Instead, she ended up locking eyes with Bakugou, who was at the next table. Noticing he got caught, he averted his gaze, almost like he had been looking at her this whole time.
He was nice enough to stop what he was doing to ask if she was okay... But then again, he was incredibly rude and unnecessarily angry all the time, just then he seemed livid with being discovered. What she didn't know, is that he was even more upset seeing her being all friendly with Deku.
"What are you looking at, bakayarou?" Bakugou roared.
"You were the one looking at me!" Vicky gasped.
"No, I wasn't! Why would I look at you? Damn extras..."
"Hey! It's not very manly to talk to a girl like that!" Kirishima scolded.
Without even looking up from his plate, he just flipped his classmate off and went on about his day. He definitely wasn't looking. Right? Right.
