Happy 79th Anniversary !
Ohhhh boy, this book is 79 years old? Blimey! The book that started in all, The Three Railway Engines. Cheers, Wilbert… however imperfect your stories were, it did have a positive impact in that it inspired the love of steam locomotives in younger generations for years to come.
Cheers to the first three… Edward, Gordon and Henry!
Salut!
I know it’s a bit late, but here’s my tribute inspired by the poster for Trainspotting.

[1923]
Dusk had descended on the yard by the time Edward returned to the sheds. Most of the other engines had already settled in.
“Oh, here comes the showoff.” Muttered a voice.
Edward paid it no mind.
“I’m going out again tomorrow!” He told the other engines. “What’cha think of that?”
“Brilliant.” 8754 grouched. “Stay out of the way of my express goods, and we won’t have any trouble.”
“Sounds fine to me.” Edward smiled.
Gordon and 2984 then spouted some likely hurtful words, but Edward tuned them out almost immediately. He was in too good a mood to be dragged down by them.
He closed his eyes, and drifted backwards into the sheds - falling asleep almost before his buffers touched the bar.

Once I'm done with like, at least half of these WIPs, I really wanna sit down and work on two TTTE OCs of mine that actually predate my engine OCs... The concept is a fun one and even touches on the whole 'What Makes An Engine/Vehicle/Machine/ETC Alive?' idea I've had microwaving in my brain for a while...
#Eps Talks About:#Thomas and Friends#TTTE#TTTE OCs#Like I gotta finish lining these Lethal Railway AU sketches#As well as a doodle of a younger Mimic Gordon and three of his siblings#Plus return to the Service Size Mimics WIP which I take regular breaks from so I don't just give up on them#and a few other Railway Mimics AU doodles + actually get to work on OC ref sheets for both engines and non-engine OCs#the two first mentioned here you can actually see in my WIP folder in my Ko-fi by the way#I'm trying to make it a habit to post artwork WIPs there now

Watching SLOTLT:
....Okay... we need to talk about Sodor's Legend Of The Lost Treasure. Many TTTE fans love it and call it "the best special" and "the peak of CGI Thomas." But we need to face facts. It's far from everyone's favorite and actually the Most Controversial of CGI Thomas.
My stance? I say people who don't like SLOTLT are right- just for not for the valid reasons. Prepare to be roasted.
The movie heavily flanderizes Thomas and ruins his character development throughout the series. It practically takes everything that made him unlikable in the Miller era and turned him back into a complete, 100% irresponsible idiot. Take The Great Discovery, a special VERY similar in plot for example. After his trick on Stanley that demolishes the tower, he actually shows full remorse and tries to make up for his mistake.
In Lost Treasure, that is not the case. Here at the start of the movie he's just like, "I'm number one so I can do what I want!"
And it's not until THE DAY AFTER the Dynamite Incident that it finally sinks in and he's like "Aw it was my fault..."
Plus, he would've been mature enough by now not to let Gordon's teasing get to him. In Season 5, he literally tells Percy to just ignore George's insults and simply does just that.
Why are insults such a big deal to him NOW that he has to run of with Gordon's coaches and derail them??? This doesn't make sense! Yes, he is meant to be cheeky, but how the hell do we go from how he's written in Tale Of The Brave to this?!
So much dumb shit happens that could've and should have been easily avoided. The accidents Thomas cause would've have been stopped in a heartbeat if they ACTUALLY REMEMBERED drivers and firemen exist. When Thomas falls into the cavern? HOW THE HELL are they so unaware of the workmen shouting trying to stop them?! How do they not once look where he is going and see the signs?!

They're not even trying! Look at them in the cab! Up until the accident happens they're practically just chillin'! You're not fooling anybody! Are they high on crack in there??? Are they paying rent in there??? Do they just spontaneously go blind and deaf??? Hello?!?! Wake up and control your fucking train!!!
Let's cut back to the coaches. WHY is Thomas shunting Gordon's coaches when that is NOT his job anymore now that he has his branchline?! That's the whole reason the big engines went on strike and Percy was brought to the railway! Topham has HOW many shunters now? And you're SERIOUSLY gonna tell me not a single one could've done it instead? Look how empty Knapford is!
What about the Diesel Boxcab introduced this season? Why isn't he in this movie to do that instead? Did he die?
Overall, SLOTLT is just a pointless Great Discovery rehash sprinkled with stale RWS references, (which help set up this movie's god awful plot in the first place) returned characters, and cinematic visuals and music pretending it's actually a good movie with a likeable plot. Not only does it take the three-strike formula and fail miserably at making it good, (The three accidents Thomas causes) it can't even remember the show's continuity properly for God's sake! For a what's supposed to be a tribute to the RWS, this is not a good look at all, Andrew Brenner. You did not cook.
What's even worse is that for all these years everyone in this fandom just blindly glazes over everything this movie does wrong and then act like it's illegal for someone not to like it and it's disgusting. This movie single-handedly damaged the entire TTTE fandom for 10 years. 10. FUCKING. YEARS.
We already had a special that did this kind of plot so much better in every way. WHY are we doing it AGAIN??? Why wasn't The Adventure Begins enough for this year???
We did not need this. We did not need any of this shit. Just skip to Season 20 and you are not missing too much, I promise you. Peak CGI Thomas my ass. HALF the CGI specials are the least bit more deserving than this shitshow.
This movie sucks. We do not speak of it, I'm done talking about it, it's not canon, it doesn't deserve to be, it never existed. It's dead to me.
All it's got going for it are the visuals, voice acting and music, Donald, Douglas, Alfie and Oliver, Max, Monty, and Daisy returning, and the Miniature Engines introduced. That's it.
Just because a movie looks 'cinematic' does not automatically make it good.
#Don't even bother commenting or reblogging if you're just gonna attack me for this because you clearly did not read.#Probably the only time I make a post like this but this shit needs to be said.#Like how fucking hard is it to be in this fandom and not be disgusting and toxic over opinions?!#2015 was ALMOST a good year...#controversy#flanderization#ttte#thomas the tank engine#thomas and friends#thomas & friends#thomas & friends CGI#thomas & friends brenner era#ttte fandom

Normally people ttte power of three groups: The Three Railway Engines (Edward, Henry and Gordon) or Thomas, James and Emily
Me: Three Edwardian war traumatised engines (Edward, Donald and Douglas)
I would bloody pay to see an episode (model, CGI, fan made, anything) of the twins finding out it was Edward who suggested the deputation that ultimately saved them (bonus points if the Fat Controller found out one of his most reliable engines suggested 'interference'). Or a callback episode to Redward working with the twins on the Dumfries and Lockerbie line, the line that linked the Furness Railway to the Caledonian Railway.
HCs
Edward was built a few months after the twins in 1906
The reason Edward worked on the Dumfries and Lockerbie line rather than the Furness mainline despite being an express engine is that the Furness was a lot more strict in its standards. Due to him being a shy steamer, Edward - at the time being a Nameless engine, just Furness 4652 - worked on a different line. This is where he met the twins - Caledonian 829 (Donald) and Caledonian 830 (Douglas)
Despite the difference in their work and view on goods work, the three got along well, the twins even getting Edward to somewhat change his perspective on it but not completely
Douglas lost his first driver, who was going to visit family in America, to the sinking of the Titanic
In 1914, almost every steam engine built pre-1909 was sent to the front lines to haul supply trains and, if you were unlucky, rail guns. However, the war coal actually worked better with Edward than standard coal so he was working in the same way his siblings were. This kept the three's spirits up for a month
They met Emily, who was hauling injured soldiers and supplies, there too and she acted as a mother figure
During the Christmas truce of 1914, they met four German engines - Hanna, twins Heinrich and Otto, and Karla. Edward and Hanna were smitten (like smokebox over tender smitten) with each other, much to their friends' amusement and teasing
When the three returned from the war in 1918, Edward was deemed 'too broken and unstable' (trauma) for use by the Furness and was sold to Sodor to make him their problem. This actually did Edward some good because the moment he showed up on Sodor, he was named Edward. He didn't understand why as, on the mainland, names had to be earned. Sir Charles's reason was that being in war was more than enough reason to name an engine and that 'every engine deserves a name'
Post WW2 after the twins were officially bought by the NWR, Edward's driver attempted to get into contact with the German engines. It was a success and all eight now exchange letters through their crews. Edward and Hanna are still smitten.
No one believes the twins when they say how Edward used to be until Edward confirms it
The RMS Olympic, after hiding from the cutter's torch for many years, made a reappearance at Brendam Docks and rekindled her friendship with Edward. Historians have never been so confused as to how they missed a whole ocean liner at sea for several decades straight. This is a source of great amusement for the twins, Edward and Olympic

TTTE Headcanons: Engines’ TV Habits — Skarloey Railway Edition
I really enjoyed making that post about what some engines on Sodor might like to watch on TV. Here’s one all about the SR!
——————————————
Skarloey likes shows about space and space travel. When out of service in the early 1950s, he often had nothing to do except listen to the radio… which exposed him to the Space Race. It was a nice distraction, taking his mind literal worlds away. He developed a genuine interest and continues to tune into documentaries.
Rheneas sometimes watches meditation programs. After years of running his line alone, he struggles to relax. He can’t follow all the directions, being an engine, but it still helps him feel more present and shake off “crisis mode.” And the gentle music and voiceovers are soothing after a long, hard day’s work.
Peter Sam loves catching dreamy, technicolor Hollywood films when they air. The Wizard of Oz is a favorite, with the “no place like home” message resonating with him over the years. TV musicals and musical episodes are also a big hit with him. He enjoys the high energy of those shows and singing along with them.
Sir Handel watches sports, usually football. Or rather, his crew puts it on during breaks, and he complains about it being loud and stupid… but he always gets sucked in anyway and has a blast. He also watches the news so he can chat with Gordon about “the state of the world” on their connecting trains.
Duncan likes stand-up comedy — the more foul-mouthed, the more he laughs — and anything to do with rock n’ roll. If Top of the Pops features a rock artist, he watches and shimmies in place in the engine equivalent of head-banging. He loves getting caught up in guitar riffs and drumbeats that he feels in his frames.
Rusty tunes into home renovation shows. Being a maintenance diesel, they’re curious about the ways humans repair houses and buildings. They also watch shows like Too Cute. This is partly because cute animals are cute animals, but also because they love dragging Duncan along and watching him try not to melt over kittens and puppies. (His record is three minutes.)
Fred, as someone often on weedkiller duty, started to watch gardening shows for tips. He soon became interested in cultivation in general. Now he’s a regular viewer so he can better look after the line-side wildflowers and the station flowerbeds. He hopes to convince the Thin Controller to set up a community vegetable garden, too.
Ivo Hugh watches a lot of animated shows, particularly those to do with superheroes. Aside from enjoying the flashy action sequences and dramatic storylines, he appreciates their moral questions. They spark interesting conversations with the older engines around him. He comes away feeling like he knows himself better… and that none of the heroes on TV compare to the ones he talks to every day.
Duke has strait-laced habits: local news, talking heads, and the occasional program about railways. Or at least, that’s what he wants you to think. He secretly enjoys the show Jeeves and Wooster. He relates to Jeeves, a competent butler who fixes the messes that his well-meaning but barmy employer gets himself into. He would never admit this for fear of hurting His Grace’s feelings.
(He doesn’t know that Sir Robert also loves the show, finding it to lampoon the sort of pretentious, nasty aristocrats who call him improper and ridiculous.)
