Sodor’s Steam, Swords, Shields, and Strongholds: Chapter One - One Eventful Day

Trumpets blared loudly yet so awfully that eight engines in their fine fancy indoor sheds, squinted their eyes and yawned.

“Sorry to disturb your slumber.”, The Messenger named Zachery flustered, “Today is coronation for an our new king.”

“Oh, the indignity. It’s SUCH a boring event.”, Gordon huffed, “I sooner take a longer nap like give me five more minutes.”

Gordon shut his eyes as Thomas and Percy whistled, “Come on, lazybones. You don’t want to look… not important.”, Thomas cheekily grinned.

James chuckled as Gordon opened his eyes and rolled with annoyance, “Fine. Let’s go.”

Not long after, Maid Anne appeared, “Good morning you all.”, she chirped with a high pitched voice, “We are waiting to decorate and give you a wash for the coronation. Don’t take too long.”

The maid giggled as she walked away.

“Finally, something to LOOK forward to!”, James grinned.

“It would be nice to have a nice wash.”, Emily hummed.

“I couldn’t agree more.”, Edward agreed, “It is an important day since… well… The Queen’s departure.”

“Well, at least we should have a better ruler.”, Percy beamed.

“I wouldn’t be sure if I were you, Percy.”, Edward warned, “Prince Archie is known to be a difficult child.”

“Let’s hope he straighten his actions.”, said Henry.

“Well, we shouldn’t blabber on.”, Toby cut in, “We should get ready.”

James, Thomas, and Percy wasted no time to race down the castle’s hallway, “Last one is the slow coach!”, Thomas’ voice echoed.

Edward sighed as he smiled, “Come on everyone. Let’s go.”

With that, the five remaining engines puffed along the hallway, getting ready for an important day for a certain royalty.

…

“There! You all look like royalties yourself!”, comment one of the groomers as she clapped her hands in delight.

They did indeed look royal as their scaly paint gleamed from the light as their crystals on their forehead shined bright like diamonds, and they were all wearing a crown.

All the engines were pleased with the results, especially James, who was admiring himself with his mirror. He made all sorts of facial expression before Zachery the Messenger blowed his trumpet off note, “T-the coronation starts within ten minutes.”

The engines hummed as they puffed to the church, where future kings or queens get crowned to be the new ruler of Ulfstead Castle. Each kingdom has their own engines to help their rulers and their subjects to live a peaceful and happy life. Of course, there were some ups and downs, but they managed to pull through.

Ulfstead was considered the most powerful kingdom as they have the most engines. Some would considered the engines as deities. With that, everything was prepared.

The engines sat in their spots, patiently waiting for the ceremony to commence. There were some important people too and rulers that were allies to Ulfstead. Everything stood silently until…

TRUMPETS BLARED

With that, the grand door opened by knights as a young man with black hair and light blue eyes appeared. He walked with dignity but his eyes were cold as ice. Many stood silent as Edward was the only one, analysing his behaviour with a small frown.

Once Prince Archie stood next to the bishop, he announced, “Announcing our new king of Ulfstead, King Archie.”

Archie knelt down as the bishop placed his royal crown upon his head as he continued to speak, “With this crown, you shall be treated with dignity and respect, and you will rule our land with peace and prosperity.”

Everyone cheered as all but Edward blew their whistles. Once King Archie was crowned, he stood up and used arms to silence them while hollering, “Silence!”

With that, everything stood silent as King Archie smirked, “I’ve been waiting this day to be king! I will now rule this land with such power! No one shall ever mess with me!”

Everyone gasped, but the engines growled like vicious dogs, “And you!”, King Archie pointed at the engines, “You will obey me!”

Edward snarled, which is unlike his nature as he’s typically calm and gentle, “We will NEVER follow your rules!”

King Archie growled, “Guards! Get them!”

Swarm of guards appeared as the engines blew flames at them and growled. Everyone freaked out as the crowd ran from the scenes. The engines snarled before King Archie threw a purple liquid potion at them, which made them weary and tired before they fell asleep.

With that, their lives would be changed forever.

Finally made a piece showing my High Fantasy version of a locomotive, the drawf mine hard worker and old faithful Chico 🖤

I wanted to give him a mixture of the first designs of trains in a raw metal look with bronze detailing to create something almost functional with a whimsical touch, as if he just came from a DnD creature handbook

He's completely automonomous and only depends on his dwarf co-workers to refil his tender, he works in coal mines and isn't used to the outside world, has seen very few other engines during his life and has a lovely grumpy personality. He has taught the other mine engines how to work and is always keeping an eye on everything, even helping the younger humanoid workers as much as he can

It’s about engines in medieval times and they’ve been through many eras in Ulfstead Castle, some great and some dark, but they stick together as a family. What’s more, they can turn into beasts and titans.

I was inspired by @monstersteam and I would like to thank her for the inspiration and allowing me to open up my AU.

Musical musings - TTTE edition

One of the things that got me back into TTTE was the banger soundtrack and character themes. Music has always been a huge part of my life, I have classical training for the piano and an in-depth knowledge of musical theory and harmonic practices for classical music. So here are some of the things I noticed about various character themes and some of the engines' whistles.

Gordon is considered to be the biggest engine out of the main 12, and this could be reflected in his whistle, as it has the greatest interval between the two notes which make it up, that being a minor seventh between C and Bb.

James' whistle (G - C#/Db) is a tritone/Augmented 4th/Diminished 5th. In medieval times, this interval was considered to be a representation of conflict, discord (no, not THAT Discord) instability and danger. You can hear it in pieces like the iconic opening to Camille Saint-Seans' Danse Macabre, and in Hector Berlioz's La damnation de Faust to represent the titular character's arrival in Hell. James, I've noticed, is pretty damn insecure. He clings to his red paint like a lifeline and hides behind a veneer of arrogance and vanity. He can be quite boastful, to the detriment of his relationships with other engines, with him usually being the aggressor in conflicts with them. So I suppose the use of a tritone for his whistle is appropriate.

Percy appears to (mentally) be the youngest of the main 12, and this could be represented by having the highest whistle out of all of them.

Thomas' character theme and Edward's Series 2 theme both feature modulations to the parallel major of the initial key's relative minor, with Thomas' theme starting in F major and ending in D major, and Edward's theme starting in C major and ending in A major. The "relative minor" of a major key is the minor key which shares its key signature (ex. the relative minor of F major is D minor since they share the same key signature of one flat, likewise with C major, A minor and a key signature of no accidentals). The "parallel major" of a minor key is the major key which shares its 1st note (AKA, the tonic). So....like mentor, like mentee. Or like Father, like Son, in terms of musical themes.

Henry's theme is in a quadruple meter (following an 8-measure phrasing pattern, likely 12/8 time), meaning that there are 4 beats to a measure. However, each one of these "beats" consists of a triplet(If you were to count out a measure, it'd be 1-2-3 4-5-6 7-8-9 10-11-12, and you'd conduct it like 4 beats instead of each of the 12 individual notes) And Henry is the number 3 engine. Hmm.......

P.S: One of my favourite OSTs is Kingdom Dance from Tangled, and every time I listen it, I think of the twins. Probably because it uses the E Dorian mode (with a dash of E Mixolydian) which is common in Scottish music. Just in case anyone's confused, the "Dorian" mode is an 8-note scale which starts on the second note of a given major scale. (e.g, E is the 2nd note of a D major scale, so its Dorian mode uses the same signature of 2 sharps). The Mixolydian mode is an 8-note scale which starts on the 5th note of a given major scale. (e.g, E is the 5th note of an A major scale and thus, its Mixolydian mode uses the same key signature of 3 sharps).

TTTE/RWS Headcanons: Tabitha

Tabitha is a cat who appears in a TTTE annual story called “Gordon’s Stowaway.” I just really like playing around with the idea of a railway cat who adores Gordon (and whom Gordon adores in return, lol)!

—————————— -Within Tabitha’s first week in Tidmouth Sheds, a workbench became swamped with cat toys brought in by cleaners and engine crews. Yarn, felt mice, battery-powered doodads — you name it!

-This is partly because of Tabitha’s inherent cuteness. It’s also because NWR employees discovered bringing a new toy was the fastest way to curry favor with Gordon.

-Gordon insists on inspecting every new toy, ensuring it’s “suitable” for her. Nine times out of ten, he accepts this latest tribute with the loftiness of a medieval lord.

(-The one time out of ten is anything with catnip. Gordon still hasn’t recovered from what he calls The Incident.)

-But Tabitha’s favorite toy is a simple feather. The engines take turns having someone lay it across their funnels. Then, they let off steam. The feather goes flying and she jumps after it.

-Tabitha doesn’t share Gordon’s musical tastes. The first time they put on his tape of The Magic Flute, she hid under his buffers for an hour. Still feeling guilty, Gordon now refrains from playing his opera tapes whenever she’s there.

-The others sometimes exploit this, coaxing her into the sheds so they don’t have to listen to the “Night Aria” for the hundredth time.

-She seems indifferent to the other engines’ preferences, as long as it’s at a reasonable volume. With James’ jazz CDs, however, she curls up on her cushion and goes straight to sleep. James and Gordon still bicker over whether she’s comfortable or bored by his music.

-If one of them is in a bad headspace, she’ll sit with them on their running board and purr. Nobody knows how she knows, but it’s clear she has a sixth sense for it. And she always makes them feel better.

-Tabitha has her own YouTube channel! Run by a cleaner at the sheds, it mostly consists of short clips: chasing birds, slow-blinking at the person behind the camera, playing with string, etc.

-For a short while, none of her viewers knew she was the NWR’s cat. That changed with a video of her running to Gordon as he came back to the sheds, meowing at him.

-(Not only did the video go viral, but the moment Gordon’s face lit up upon seeing her became the most viewed part of the video.)

-Tabitha’s Internet fame has since been used to spearhead various causes: fundraising for other heritage railways, railway safety campaigns, and so on.

-Thomas also has a tongue-in-cheek, one-sided rivalry with Tabitha over who should be the mascot of the NWR. It’s mostly something he plays up to amuse visiting children or to spur on fundraising. (The others make sure he doesn’t get too into it, though.)

-When there’s no mice to chase out of the sheds, Tabitha joins Gordon on his morning trains. A porter brings along her cushion, from which she watches the scenery go by. The coaches adore her and scold any passengers who disturb her.

-The first time Gordon had to go to the works after Tabitha settled in, he figured she would be fine at Tidmouth in his absence. The others would care for her.

-And they did. So much so, in fact, that they caved to her mournful meowing and pacing in Gordon’s empty berth. Gordon couldn’t be upset after Henry explained this to him, Tabitha jumping into his cab.

-Tabitha’s clinginess is her one bad habit. Since she can’t always be at the works with Gordon, everyone does their best to keep her occupied and happy. Even the Fat Controller will slip her a treat.

"Skarloey's boys, they call us."

so here's something I've been whittling away at ever since I got back into the railway series - a ttte fire emblem-esque au! it's a niche within a niche but I've had it in my brain for ages and just wanted to get SOMETHING out! Presenting Sodor Cipher!

To start off, some of the members of the Skarloey - Sir Handel, Duncan and Rusty! In my general canon for this au I like to imagine the Skarloey as a Duchy with a heavy emphasis on their physical prowess and mineral mining thanks to their close proximity to the Culdee Fell mountains and the Blue Mountain Quarry - As such, Shane Dooiney is the industry capital for the area. Being far out from the rest of the towns and kingdoms means that many come to the Skarloey for a fresh start, and those that do inevitably forge stronger bonds than they've ever known before. Those bufferbeam-style belts aren't just for show, Skarloey's boys are so good at what they do that they have the sheer force of will to expertly maneuver mining equipment with just their bodies.

As for character bios/ mini backstories (can you tell ive never actually made an au before and dont exactly know the most eloquent way to explain things oop) we've got:

Sir Handel - Once known as Falcon in another kingdom, moved to the Skarloey after receiving a knighthood to get away from the life of a knight. Despite maintaining that he's an excellent mentor, he is rash and impulsive - all for a good cause though, he just wants to get through the day and clock off for some good-old-fashioned banter. Still good with a sword, but prefers to not have to touch it in favour of staunchly gathering resources.

Duncan - Once a lower member of a Mercenary group, he learned that being brutally vocal was the only way to get by. Not a bigot, but not exactly a saint either, he has a hard time letting new people into his life - not exactly the best disposition to have when you're leaving your life behind to work in the chattiest mountains on Sodor. Despite being in a merc group and being a supposed dab hand with an axe, he isn't the most well-travelled.

Rusty - Born in the Mainland before immediately being raised in Skarloey, Rusty has an undying love for the people of the Duchy and the rest of Sodor in general. They have a keen eye for detail and are quick to educate fellow knights on proper conduct - even if they don't exactly ask for it. Rusty runs double duty, conducting inspections in the mining sectors and guarding Crovan's Gate as a surprisingly adept Halberdier.

I'm still working out the specifics of details in this au as it's a blend of each era and general medieval fantasy worldbuilding, so I welcome any and all questions ! <3

psst! hey kid! I heard you like countryhumans!

I remember back when I was active in the fandom (it's still kind of a guilty pleasure fandom) I had a few things that happened to the Philippines and co:

-when Philippines is standing up right, he's Philippines, when he's upside down, he's Martial. there was this incorrect quote I wrote where he's doing cartwheels and shouting "I am Philippines! I am martial! I am Philippines! I am Martial!"

-America once injured his eye and had a cotton pad over it. Philippines wouldn't stop calling him "cotton eyed Joe"

nobody knows where he came from, or where he went.

-Indonesia has a giant fish tank at his house.

-there was this incident where the south east Asia gang showed up to the meeting building early to find a guy in a janitor's outfit and a box van trying to get into the building, they asked what he was doing, and the guy said that their boss had ordered some new chairs and he came to take the old chairs. so they decided to help him out by not only unlocking the doors for him, but also helped him load all of the chairs into his van.

Come to find out, ASEAN never ordered any new chairs, they just helped a guy steal all of their chairs.

-Cambodia lost both of her legs to a landmine and relies on the gang to carry her around.

-same year as the chair incident, at summer boot camp (which is just a glorified summer camp for Country humans) Indonesia and Vietnam got sick and tired of eating camp food and decided to go out and gather their own food.

it was a disaster, when they came back, Vietnam's arm was covered in bee stings and honey, and Indonesia somehow was able to catch a fish, but he had no way of cleaning it, or cooking it, so they just threw the fish back into the water and never complained about camp food ever again.

-same year, while discussing on how to get back on ASEAN's good graces after falling for the classic Bavarian fire drill routine with the chairs, Philippines flew off the swing set and accidentally took out ASEAN

-that was also the same year a squirrel broke into the male European countries' cabin, and sat on Italy's chest. and Italy freaked out thinking it was a rat resulting in every single country in that cabin to freak out because all European countries minus Poland and Iceland, are terrified of rats.

(Poland wasn't there because he and Hungary and Czech packed up their horses, and took an annual road trip that included horse back riding, and taking part in a medieval festival where Poland dresses up as a Winged Hussar, and Hungary goes as a Hungarian Hussar as well)

Yoo...That was a lot of headcanons and they all sounds interesting 👀✨✨✨

And the fact that you also made headcanons for countryhumans outside of ASEAN is very cool....So far I have only focused on Sea countries, especially Maphilvietindo TwT

Where in the AU I'm working on, their story focuses on their lives in a special school for nations (Which of course is not a regular school, it has a fantasy and mystery genre, and the school has some crazy things going on around it)...So yeah, it's like a school AU where the countries are the students while international organizations like ASEAN, UN, EU, NATO, and others are the teachers lol

And besides Maphilvietindo, I also made some headcanons for other Sea countries...Like Singapore who is secretly a gamer, Cambodia and Thailand who have a sibling rivalry, Brunei being the sanest person in the group, and other 😂

I made a little headcanon for other countries... Like Romania being a vampire and being friends with Bulgaria being a vampire hunter, and some other crazy headcanons

I was checking the gacha mods that I have and I saw that I have many au designs [which are like three or four au's] and I realized how much effort I put into them to not doing anything with those designs 😐🤦

all because I'm lazy, if it wasn't for that I would have uploaded some of the lore and drawings😭

so, let's talk about clara, the scrapyard engine no longer!

aka my latest ttte oc! this infodump involves quite a bit about scrapping and death, just fyi. more below the cut!

First things first, I'd like to talk about her basis. IRL none were preserved, but I present to you...

The L&YR Hughes 4-6-4T!

Real big tank engines, aren't they? 49 feet long, apparently! They were nicknamed Dreadnought tanks after the engine they were based on, L&YR Class 8, which were in turn nicknamed Dreadnoughts.

In regards to Clara herself, she has a bit of a history. On her old railway, though she has long since forgotten it, she was once nicknamed "Little Dreadnought," a rather funny nickname considering how large her class is.

But as dieselization occurred, she wasn't needed any longer. One fateful day, she was visited by some men from a scrapyard and given a choice. Either come with them and work at the scrapyard, or be scrapped. With a life or death decision before her, she decided she would live.

It just so happened this scrapyard was on Sodor.

She was granted a new nickname - Ol' Smokestack.

Life in the scrapyards wasn't easy for her at all. She bore direct witness to engine scrapping and sometimes had to bring other engines to be scrapped. She was some of their final company and even then, she didn't think she was very good company.

But eventually, she got desensitized. She continued working simply to live, and to prevent anyone else from having to bear the burden of her job. She thought she no longer felt guilt about it, but in reality, she did. Her guilt presented itself in the form of her dreading what was to come after the scrapyards, an undying feeling of her being undeserving of forgiveness or a new chance.

It was rare engines who weren't about to be scrapped spoke to her. After all, who would? She didn't blame them for it, she was the scrapyard engine. Sometimes diesels from the Other Railway who had some sort of scrap based deal with the yard came by, but they were never good conversation. Some of her best conversation lay in some boys, apprentices, who briefly visited the scrapyards. They seemed to be genuinely interested in steam engines and soon found themselves leaving after learning about what scrapping was truly like. She learned of some things then - medieval times especially from one of the particularly chatty ones.

But nevertheless, life went on for Smokestack. And it started to hurt, both mentally and physically. She did not complain about her ails, though, for fear of being scrapped. She did what she could. She was not willing or happy to be there, but she was compliant, for her own life's sake.

Then, came Wesley. At that time, he had barely been exposed to the concept of scrap. Before he arrived at the scrapyard to take one scrap train from the larger scrapyard to the smaller one on Edward's branch line (where, at that point, not many engines had been scrapped anyways, to his knowledge, despite Trevor almost having been scrapped there, but that was after that), he was warned to not talk to the scrapyard engine. He disregarded those warnings, wanting to give her a fair chance. The two struck some light conversation before Wesley left, uncomfortable in the scrapyard. Then, Wesley came to the realization that no engine would... choose to be there, right? There were two outcomes about her presence there and neither were good. Either she was there and wasn't happy to be there, or she was *enjoying scrapping other engines.* Though wary of the scrapyard, he needed to know more.

He continued working with that scrap train for some time, getting to know Smokestack. She opened up rather quickly, happy to have some better conversation. She also started informing Wesley about the scrapyard, finding it strange such an old engine barely knew about them. Wesley's realizations about how horrible this place was kept growing. He asked about what was done with the scrap, and learned that as well: it was simply put to a new use, usually. He found himself curious about it, so in between then and his next visit, he started inquiring about death, and scrap, and other things with various people and engines and rolling stock. Despite his newfound knowledge of new concepts, his thoughts on scrap remained the same: something new just happened to it.

When he arrived to the scrapyard next, Smokestack had a train for him, but something else drew his attention: what appeared to be some very fresh scrap, a husk of an engine. This started some awkward conversation between them, revealing how resigned Smokestack was to the concept of scrapping being simply something that had to happen. After some silence, Smokestack decided to change the subject. She started talking about how she once pulled a post train before all this. Wesley asked why she wasn't doing that anymore. She explained: dieselization. It wasn't the fault of the diesels themselves, and... sure, it's hard to maintain many engines. In the end, diesels were just more effective. Then she told Wesley how she came to work at that Scrapyard.

Wesley asked if she wanted to be there. She admitted she didn't. But certainly, whatever came after that would be horrible. Scrapping, or something else. She wouldn't be forgiven for the engines she had brought to their deaths, at least, that was what she thought.

Wesley opened up about his thoughts on scrap being a new beginning, and how, even then, scrapping wasn't necessarily the only option. Smokestack said the job had to be done. Better her than another engine.

So he asked what the job was like.

She answered. Listening to last words and final calls for help. Knowing how various engines took their final moments, with pride, with humor, with silence, or with fear. Some even tried to convince her to help them escape. Those were always the hardest to deal with.

They talked longer. Eventually Wesley said he was sorry she had to deal with all that. She said that she wasn't without blame, she said yes to the offer of those men.

And Wesley wondered who could blame her. It was life or death, after all.

And she told him that she could. And so could all the engines she brought to their deaths. The husk of an engine, the new one, all he wanted was to be ready before beint scrapped. The cutters didn't let him get ready. She didn't even tell them to give him a moment. She was too afraid to.

To that, Wesley said this was place was horrible and horrible for her. She could do so much better than this if only given the chance. Smokestack thought she was the only one who could handle it. Regardless of that, Wesley thought no engine should have to deal with this. He chuffed off, leaving Smokestack with much to think about.

Upon their next meeting, she asked for something. To be coupled to Wesley's train. She wanted to escape.

And she did. And it went off without a hitch. Even when she told The Fat Controller that if he simply called the scrapyard, they wouldn't have cared.

The worst part, was that, they didn't. They didn't even want her back unless it was to scrap her, or perhaps whoever was answering the phone was just very cross. They took the answer at face value, though.

And with that, Smokestack became a part of the NWR. She was granted number 42 and a coat of green paint.

Her earliest days on the railway were rather rough. She was trialling around the railway in order to figure out where she best fit, and who should be driving her and who should be her fireman and all that. It was certainly strange for some engines to be meeting the scrapyard engine as one of their own. And it was rather awkward for both parties.

She started catching onto the fact that engines around this railway had proper names, and she requested one. She ended up being named Clara by The Fat Controller. She took pride in that name. It made her feel like she fit in a bit more.

Eventually things got a bit less awkward for everyone. Clara started to adapt to the railways... after a trial in trying to hide her past from a certain diesel engine she wanted to befriend and realizing she didn't want to do that despite knowing she didnt know about her history as a scrapyard engine. She found herself enjoying work. She even found one of the old apprentices from the scrapyard, who became her fireman. And she made friends with other engines, who finally regarded her with some kindness and sympathy, and regarded her as not just the scrapyard engine. And she had good conversations. And she finally got to pull the post again, even if it wasn't exactly like before.

I'm still working on her stories. I haven't even drawn her yet. But Clara... she's getting better. And I'm very happy to say that. I love exploring lore like this so when the concept struck me to write about a scrapyard engine who didn't like their job but did it out of necessity, I had to. I'll have to post her concept poem here next (aka the poem I wrote when sudden creative spirit overtook me and made me write about an engine), and perhaps the old Scrapyard Poem I wrote from Wesley's POV even before I conceptualized Clara.

So I do have some locomotives from real life as part of my headcanons for TTTE characters (for example, Onslaught, Glory, and Greyhound are part of my D10 lore- and in my headcanon Diesel 10 is warship D810 “Cockade”)

Santa Fe 2926 (or “Santi”)

(2926 is the only one I’ve given a name that’s different from its running number so far, since shes the only one ive officially made into an OC)

Santi had a very short working life when she was still in service, and spent decades as a static display in a park. Oddly enough, shes not so grouchy as most display engines tend to become. I like to think she was in limbo for the most part while on display, kind of like Duke being buried in the shed. (Or like Captain America getting frozen for 75 years) When she woke up during the beginning of her restoration in the early 2000s, she was unaware of how much time had passed- which was very disorienting. Fortunately she’s had the restoration team catch her up on the last 60 years of human history.

Santi as of writing this post hasn’t been on any excursions yet as far as I know, and is still cooped up in the yard. I think she keeps an audio log of how she’s slowly going crazy in there.

“Day 325 - the restoration team fixed my whistle! Its a shame I have no one of my own kind to scream at with it!”

I think Santi and R&N 2102 are pen pals. preserved 4-8-4 besties for life ❤️🚂

they narrate what they want written out loud to their engineers, they both sign off with 0000-00000000-0000, their shared wheel arrangement in text.

Denver and Rio Grande K36s

(I want to give them names, and they’d probably all start with the same letter)

9 out of 10 of the K36s are preserved, the 5th one got scrapped. In reality, the group is split across the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton, but for the sake of this interpretation they’re all together

I found out about the K36s through a video by History in the Dark, he has a series of videos of “10 of the best trains ever”. I cant find the exact episode :(

Imagine the Dieseasel but there’s NINE of bill and ben instead of two. Though they aren’t as mischievous, they’re definitely just as irritating. They’re sort of a strange hive mind of little engines, akin to Ariel’s sisters in the Little Mermaid. Any time something spectacular happens on their railway, they find some way to spiritually communicate the happening to dear #485, their sibling who fell in a turntable and had to be scrapped- her damage was too severe. Though 485 was very much like the rest of them, she sort of becomes their saint- who they leave offerings of coal and water for in her old shed berth like its a medieval icon. Any time one of them misbehaves, one of their siblings is sure to tell them that 485 would be ashamed and she is not smiling on them right now.

Although this strays from their real life history quite a bit (and their gauge, which is 3ft), I think it would be hilarious if Thomas met them in a RWS-ified BWBA. He comes to their little railway and they all go front over wheels about their strange visitor. I also think the dynamic between them would be interesting, since the K36s are 9 out of their original 10, and Thomas is 1 out of the original 10 E2s. However, It’d probably take a while to get to that point in conversation with how supremely creeped out Thomas is by the K36s slightly cultish practices

Also, they’d probably chase him out of their little railway with pitchforks and acetylene torches if he brought up anything about turntables. They’re a bit of a touchy subject .

NKP 765

the 765 isn’t hard to find videos of XD Since shes the pride of the Nickel Plate Road and not converted to burn oil like lots of other large preserved engines, she takes pride in her unique status. I like to think she has the attitude of a great aunt or grandma with a gritty sense of humor and a laugh that could shake the walls. She does get puffed up in the smokebox, though, and has a hard time admitting she’s wrong. She has a bit of a parental relationship with the diesels on her railway, some of whom call her “granny”, and other endearments relating to her age.

New Zealand V Class

in a very different vein than everyone else, the V class all met the absolutely horrifying fate of being BURIED IN MUD

in my interpretation of them, The V Class have all become eldritch horror abominations, and local engines have kept their ghost stories alive and well. (usually taking the form of wayward vengeful spectres that like to make themselves known in uncomfortable places)

I had an idea where the V class emerges as one giant metal monster festooned with river sediment and garbage and terrorizes the locals but I don’t know enough about New Zealand or its railways to make an effective story.

The Steam Team’s Relationship with Princess Eleanor (Nia and Rebecca as Bonuses)

Thomas - He likes to play with her, but he knows how to be gentle with her, especially in his beast mode. They have a great bond. Thomas also tries to give advice to her when Edward or her mother is not available. She also likes to spoil him with chicken leg.

Edward - Eleanor looks up to him as almost as a wise older brother/father figure as her father died before she was even born. He gives her the wisdom and answers her questions. He also teaches her how to read due to her stuttering. She has the closest bond with him as she saw him first when she was born. Henry - He adores her but not as much as Edward as she has the strongest bond with him, but Henry is kind and gentle with her, but when he’s in grumpy or sick mode, Eleanor knows to leave him alone.

Gordon: Gordon just sees her as like any other kids. Annoying but innocent. He does respect her, but much rather sleep or play very rough games than babysit a child. He will protect her though when she’s in danger.

James - James is usually okay with kids, but he does love to spend time with Eleanor when it’s exploring or dressing him up or playing games, but he needs to gentle with her as he’s way bigger than her. She also likes to tickle him because he’s the most vulnerable.

Percy - He is like a small yet gigantic puppy with her and he gets sad or lonely easily if she doesn’t give him any hugs or attention. She sees him as a big baby, and she would always like to give him hugs when given the chance.

Toby - Like Gordon, he’s indifferent with her, and usually doesn’t spend time unless he needs to babysit her. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t care as he will comfort her when she’s struggling. She tries to encourage him to eat berries, but he prefers meat, mainly cow’s liver.

Emily - She is very kind to her and always curious when Eleanor teaches her new things. She also likes to dress her up like James, but she knows Emily loves emeralds, so it must involve emeralds to satisfy her. Emily also likes to tease her like a sister.

Nia - Eleanor and Nia have good term relationship, and Nia likes to play games with him. However, like James, needs to be gentle with her when she plays rough, and even though Nia is way smaller, she still need to careful.

Rebecca - Eleanor used to be scared of Rebecca because how huge and energetic she is, but slowly grows a liking to her, and Rebecca likes to play and give her nudges and licks in her beast form. Rebecca learns to not be too much for Eleanor, but they are alright.

This is my sideblog on another AU and it’s called, ‘Sodor’s Steam, Swords, Shields, and Strongholds’ or SSSSS for short, lol!🚂🏰

Plot Summary: It’s about engines in medieval era and their role is to serve royalties and protect the kingdom from intruders or other threats, but get this, the engines can turn into beasts, mainly by anger or they can at free will.

I would like to thank @monstersteam for the illustration, and she will draw some illustrations when given the chance!
