Ttte yard sale headcanons

Thomas: doesn’t really care about yard sales, only goes because his aunts do.

Edward: buys entire dish sets because he likes one piece but didn’t want to separate them.

Henry: buys things that he could turn into a plant pot

Gordon: doesn’t do yard sales

James: went to one, bought a nice looking wool jacket that fit him, found out that it was infested with fleas two weeks too late, never went to a single yard sale again.

Percy: gravitates toward the toys.

Toby: buys the most junkiest thing he could find because he’s worried that no one will see the beauty in it and throw it out. Totally is not projecting his past onto it.

Henrietta: makes Toby take the junk back to where he bought it.

Duck: is only interested in buying certain things from yard sales.

Donald: is chewing the seller out for scamming his twin out on a cheap cereal bowl

Douglas: got scammed out of his money over a cheap cereal bowl.

Oliver: haggles with the seller.

Emily: is more interested in clothes than other stuff

Whiff: grabs random stuff off the side of the road and regularly shoplifts from yard sales.

Some old narrow gauge Nia doodles I’ve done over the past month, Nia’s livery was inspired by 🌺mrterrier673🌺 on Twitter

Saw some edits of Nia with glasses and I fell in love we need more engines with accessories

Some pannier shaped siblings, they met pre-msr days (they didn’t come in the same time)but were very happy to reunite with one another in the msr then in the Skarloey Railway 😊☺️

Their sibling friendship/relationship is like alastor and Rosie or Mary and jack, Nia didn’t care about Stanley’s “jinx” and defended him whenever he got bullied, she’s one of the very few folks who can make Stanley genuinely happy and do things like singing much to his colleagues surprise (also livery inspiration for one another♥️❤️🧡💜💛🖤)

so, another year has passed (holy shit) and it's time to redraw the 2023 valentine's post!

so, first things first, Whiff and Scruff falling asleep to the noisest noise music known to man~

Thinking about disabled engines. :3

Engines that are blind and as a result, have to rely on their other senses to get around. They're better at it than even humans, because I believe that engines have better memory and observation skills than us. Maybe they get special aids, made specifically for engines. Like an engine equivalent of a cane, but it's more like a wire on their buffers, to let them know if they're approaching something. Their crews help them too, almost becoming seeing eye dogs for them.

Engines that designs were flawed and it impacted their lives in a certain way. Maybe they learn to work with it, like Duck and Boco. Or maybe they get "corrective surgery", like Henry.

Engines with mental or developmental disabilities like Sidney, who have short term memory loss and maybe forget things easily. Or maybe it's something else like autism or ADHD. But everyone let's them take their time, and helps them if needed, because GOSH they know they trying. The life of an engine is hard enough already. (As someone with ADHD, this one in particular is very important to me. Just found out today that ADHD and Autism are officially recognized as disabilities! So that's interesting!)

Engines that can't see well like Whiff, and have to get glasses made specifically for engines. And engine optometrists that can get them the correct prescription lenses.

Engine Specific doctors and engineers, they make it their life duty to help these disabled engines and get them back in working order, therefore saving them from scrap. Because if there are optometrists that work on them, there are surely doctors in different fields as well.

Disability Activists, both humans ones and engine ones, that speak out for disabled people and engines. Helping them to get rights, and their special needs met like they deserve.

And, yeah. That's about it. I you can see, I find this stuff very fascinating. :)

Some of this stuff is inspired by @joezworld's world building, which I greatly enjoy. Also some awesome TTTE ocs I've seen floating around. And also some amazing disabled people and family members I have known.

Headcanons for my least favorite ttte characters:

Whiff is a huge collector, it’s not uncommon for people to throw out books, toys, clothes, lamps, and kitchen gadgets. Whiff likes to pick them out of the garbage, cleaned, and hung in his shed. He finds “human gadgets” fascinating as engines don’t tend to fully understand human gadgets, but whiff wants to understand them and figure out how they work and what they are for.

Whiff is also one of the few engines who is fully literate. It isn’t uncommon for engines to be illiterate as they don’t need to learn to read or write, stations can be memorized by sight, time tables are often spoken to them, and danger signs are often pretty obvious. Whiff had taught himself to read from the books he pulled out from the trash, his favorite books are surprisingly cookbooks and home improvement magazines. His driver made a simple device for him that will allow him to turn the pages easily and he would spend up to one in the morning reading store catalogs and adding up the prices and making a list of everything he would buy. Recently, he’s gotten into computer magazines and has read about computers for disabled people that they can use moving their eyes, he secretly wishes he has one but they’re too expensive and, well, he’s a steam engine.
