Finally remembered to finish this up- some of my funny little guys! Some elaboration on character dynamics under the cut (not necessary reading, I just love talking about them)

Friends Victoria + Cassie Sharkgirls is probably the closest thing I have to an autobiographical story (other than the whole. apocalypse thing.) so their relationship dynamic is really similar to mine with my childhood friend. :' ) Bordering on a sibling relationship where they're just super annoying to each other and then even more obnoxious to everyone else. Couple Jamie + Ava I have a ton of character couples so I tried to choose one where the story itself is more romance focused? Because I. literally just made them so I could think about self-indulgent shoujo cliches lmao. Jamie is a phantom thief doing a sort of Robin Hood thing and Ava is a private detective and their childhood friend. Jamie is absolutely head over heels for Ava- at first Ava sees them more as a little brother or someone she needs to take care of but shoujo manga silliness ensues. I'm really weak for romance where a super handsome/popular type character is the one who's the first to be super in love. I draw them semi-rarely depending on my mood but they're cute I should draw them more. It's Complicated Niamh + Ailbhe More complicated than even I was expecting lmao. A human and a god who blessed him with immortality that he didn't want. Originally they were just planned as sort of toxic romance but I don't know if I'd define their relationship as strictly romantic now? But either way they're VIOLENTLY codependent. Ailbhe is pretty much the only person Niamh cares about and they'll do anything for him regardless of what he himself wants. Ailbhe's feelings are a lot more complicated because he hates them for stealing his ability to live as a normal human, but as things stand they're really the only person he can have a semi-stable relationship with now so he clings to them with a combination of love and hate. They're a mess! Family Alisha + Lily + Lauren Chose them since they're probably the closest (major) characters I have to the whole nuclear family thing. A little scary bioweapon kiddo and her two moms that love her very much! I'm an apologist for all weird experiment kids in horror media. Alisha just kind of... grabbed her at the time so Lauren took a while to get used to her but over time she got attached and since she's finally with a supportive family Lily can live like a pretty normal kid. Enemies Yu Jiang + Wei Xiao I could never choose anyone else for enemies they are THE haters. Wei Xiao is the tiger god that refused their plea for help when they were just a normal snake and became the fixation of their life from then on out. He didn't even remember them when they met for the second time but Yu Jiang became a god entirely in the hopes of eventually getting to fuck him over. Since Wei Xiao's pride was too much to adapt with human advancement he's an almost forgotten god in the modern day and Yu Jiang is sustaining him while making sure he's ABSOLUTELY aware that he's only surviving thanks to them. So now they both loathe each other with their entire beings. Characters who handle their emotions in a very healthy and normal way. Free Case Petra + Cecilie Necromantic is a romance so Basya and Cecilie's relationship is the most prevalent but I love Petra and Cecilie's soooo much! Petra was the first sentient zombie that Cecilie managed to raise so I guess she's sort of her mom? But because of how Cecilie is as a person (ditzy little weirdo) Petra is way more like the parent. She's constantly exasperated by her and complains about having to look after her like a kid all the time but she loves her so so much. (Didn't mean to make a tsundere catgirl going into them but here we are.)

I can't say I'm looking up tvtropes on ao3 or anything but I DO love tsundere shit and this trope is the cream of the crop. Probably the caveat of they have to be a little ashamed of themselves hehehe. I'm mean.

I was really into Fantomius for a while back there, and I can't say anything less than like it if I was writing this shit on ao3. Not as much my speed now, but it's cute

Psychonauts did some Cocomelon shit to me, I LOVE this. Probably not as much in fanfiction because I think having a visual element helps a lot with this but I do love eps where we see sort of the metaphors for what's going on in people's heads through the points of view of other characters! So funs so cutes!

Renard is from a family of shapeshifters, but, for some reason, he was born without magic, and as a result, he ended up with an "allergy" to magic. (He absolutely refuses to admit this to people, even if that person has already figured it out... he can be worn down though. Through persistence).

He works as a bartender- but he's also a phantom thief. He views himself moreso as a phantom thief who moonlights as a bartender than as a bartender who moonlights as a phantom thief. Aka, being a bartender is his cover job. That being said he's really good at being a bartender tbh...

He seems mysterious and cool... do not believe this. Do not believe him. He's got a 'kind of a tsundere' type of thing going on and lives in constant denial. He will jump out windows just to hide how flustered he's getting. He's 'secretly' a mess-

After all, given current circumstances, they could easily figure out on their own that a noble's carriage would be transporting something valuable for the fair event.

Hello! This is my first time sending an ask and I wanted to know if you could give a quick description of some of your au's.

I'm new to your page and i'm curious about them.

Right!! Okay!! Sorry this took so long and I'm sure I'm gonna forget one or more of them but here's as many as I remember with summaries-

Uno Reverse Card Swap AU: Red Son runs a cafe, MK works at said cafe (Pigsy and Tang both work at the local university), Mei also works at the cafe. Mei and Red Son are secretly vigilantes, who guard Monkey King's staff, which is sealing the Lady Bone Demon. One night the alert goes off, and they find that MK has lifted the staff. MK gets inducted into their lil team + Wukong breaks down the door of the cafe to announce that MK is his successor now. (As for personalities, to make it quick; MK is a lot shier/anxious in this AU, Wukong is a lot meaner (kinda like a tsundere but like for EVERYTHING. also he swears a lot), Red Son's more chill... also Red Son uses water guns hslfkjslks. ...oh and also MK is a scientifically made clone of Wukong because humans wanted a "controllable Monkey King" but that's not important-

(... that summary was a lot longer than i thought it'd be and i didn't even mention half of the stuff going on in it. ...oh boy this post is gonna be longer than i thought it'd be.)

Giggle Glow AU: this one is fairly easy to explain; basically, Wukong glows when he laughs. this spreads to MK and Macaque. in some scenarios this also spreads to the others as well but that's Basically It. despite it being so simple I love this AU with my whole heart.

Phantom Thief AU: essentially?? Mei comes from a long line of phantom thieves, Pigsy, Tang, and Sandy used to be a phantom thief trio, and, due to being raised by Pigsy and Tang + being friends with Mei, MK is also a phantom thief. the funniest thing about this AU is that the other characters all start the same as canon- the differences are that when Wukong finds out about MK's second 'job' he demands that MK teach him how to be a phantom thief. Oh, and, also, Red Son has a crush on MK's phantom thief persona, and had NO idea that he was also MK for a while. He started looking for someone to train him to be a phantom thief at some point, and ended up somehow becoming Macaque's apprentice.

Fruit Smoothie AU: a lil similar to Uno Reverse AU- Red Son and Mei run a smoothie truck + are heroes/vigilantes (albeit it didn't start that way- Red Son was initially a villain that Mei ended up redeeming). The difference here is that they meet MK, the new vigilante on the block (who takes forever to reveal details about himself to them; he doesn't tell them he's the Monkey King's successor at first and instead makes up a lie that he's from a reclusive demon family), via him literally slamming into the back of their food truck, injured, and them having to take him back to their shared apartment to treat him. ...Also in this AU Macaque escapes from LBD and needs somewhere to hide so he throws on a human glamour and gets a job working at their smoothie truck shflksdjfls. Only MK knows it's him for the longest time.

Fantasy Break AU: Wukong and Macaque fall through a magic mirror mid-fight and end up stuck in this ballroom where the doors teleport them into different stories/myths. They have to complete all the stories in order to get out.

Shadowheart AU: Macaque is cursed to end every sentence he says with "I Love You", takes the over dramatic route of just Not Saying Anything, and this leads to Problems.

Slapstick AU: Essentially, in this universe, demons decided that fighting with violence was just, y'know. Not a good game plan. So now fights are fought via comedy. Whoever can land the best joke (slapstick, stand up, even a knock knock joke), wins the battle. (LBD does not follow this rule). Oh also Wukong is cursed; but the curse works to his advantage via making people think he's a master at slapstick comedy. (Macaque, on the other hand, is just clumsy).

Twinkle Twinkle AU: Wukong and Macaque both have star-freckles on their face + ears that reflect the stars that are currently over top of the people they care about- it's kinda like a map to be able to find their loved ones, essentially.

Electric Avenue AU: MK, Pigsy, Tang, Mei, and Sandy (who are a band) end up trapped within the Demon Dimension, and MK accidentally ends up with all of Wukong's powers after an incident, leaving Wukong powerless. This AU is very much inspired by an 80's cartoon that was themed around 80's music, so this AU is based on that too (+ with some of their outfits being 80's themed as well). LBD in this AU is running a band that steals music from other people and pretends to play it while LBD uses a magic record player to hypnotize people/cause other magic effects. Kind of a battle of the bands AU?

Melody AU: SPEAKING OF MUSICAL AU'S!! this one has a bunch of my OC's in it but outside of them the main plotline is that there's a magic barrier protecting the city and Wukong needs to supply it with magic energy to maintain it and the easiest way of doing so is through song, so he became a pop star (sorry, no stagefright in this AU). one night, when MK, Mei, and Red Son get the chance to do their first performance (or, well, MK's first performance), MK accidentally releases such an enormous surge of magic power that the barrier cracks, allowing the Lady Bone Demon to get through.

Sitcom AU: this AU can mostly just be summed up by "they all share a giant mansion of a house. shenanigans ensue". (and by all i mean ALL).

Sundrop AU: due to bottling up his emotions for so long, any emotion that isn't happiness or sadness will cause Wukong to go into his kaiju form. (there's more to it than that but that's the simplest way to put it)

Forget-Me-Not AU: in this one, MK is the reincarnation of Xiaotian, who was Wukong's apprentice centuries ago. Xiaotian is.. kinda haunting MK, and they need to find pieces of a magical object in order to fully free Wukong- who's been turned to stone and hidden within a garden- he can be free when MK is there, but he can't leave, and turns back to stone whenever MK is a certain distance away. In this AU, MK was actually found and raised by LBD, so he's uh... a little traumatized, I'd say.

Flightless Birds AU: basically one of those AU's where everyone has wings- except MK was born with wings that are too small for him to fly, Wukong's wings were severely damaged by the mountain, and Macaque is missing a wing.

Platonic Soulmates (Soulmarks??) AU: everyone has multiple soulmates; you and your soulmate decide what the definition of soulmate means to you, essentially. Wukong has the belief that anyone he's soulmates with will meet a terrible fate, and so tries to avoid the subject altogether and theres SO MUCH MORE BUT THIS POST IS SO LONG I GOTTA MAKE THESE SUMMARIES SHORTER

Mixup Mashup AU: I haven't touched this one in a LONG time but it's basically an AU where MK, Mei, and Red Son are sharing a body (Red Son's body, specifically), and Wukong and Macaque have swapped bodies (due to the same incident that caused the trio to fuse).

Sunset Wukong AU: Wukong is cursed so that if he uses his powers during the day, he will slowly turn to stone. The process reverses at the end of the day, and he can use his powers during the night freely. He avoids telling MK this for a while hsdflsldfjs. (TBH this whole AU was made so I could make a Macaque vs Wukong fight scene that would be similar to that one Hibiki vs Miku fight scene in Symphogear but then I never wrote it)

Doppelganger AU: An AU where Wukong freed Macaque before going to save MK at the end of s2- and, basically, Macaque and Wukong swapped places. Or to put it in a way that's easier to understand: the Wukong that shows up at the end of s2 is actually Macaque in disguise. Eventually Wukong rejoins them on the airship, disguised as Macaque, and the two just... instead of explaining anything, decide to keep this illusion up? (Sandy and MK are the first to figure them out and... kinda help them with it a bit).

Rock Garden AU: different types of plants and flowers grow on Wukong based on his emotions.

Sway AU: When either Wukong or Macaque dances, the other is forced to copy their movements perfectly.

Chocolatier Macaque AU: this is basically an AU where Macaque decides, post ep9, to just. run a chocolate store instead. despite the fact that chocolate is literally poisonous to him. He wears a human glamour for this (MK figures him out pretty easily but does NOT figure out Wukong's human glamour which is hilarious). Wukong keeps showing up in a human glamour as well just to banter with him. There is some plot development and angst moments involved.

Zing AU: it's been so long since i've thought about this one actually but in this AU Wukong gets cursed while travelling with the gang so that he just. to put it simply has moodswings/personality-swings that are accompanied by his eyes changing colour

Shy!Wukong AU: I only ever wrote one fic for this but I'm mentioning it anyways since I love it so much; basically the years of solitude on the mountain made Wukong REALLY shy. like SUPER shy. and he has a really hard time talking to people (he outright spends his first meetings with MK just leaving sticky notes for him instead of actually talking to him). He'll hide behind trees just to avoid social interaction.

Double Heart AU: Wukong had his heart stolen, literally, like ripped out of him, by LBD. This affects his emotions: leading him to have three different states depending on the time of day; in the morning, he's mainly silent and doesn't talk outside of telling MK what to do, in the afternoon, he acts similar to how he does in the show, but you can tell that he's faking it/that something's off, and in the evening, he becomes a perfect mirror and mimics whatever actions/words the people around him do. LBD used his heart as part of the process to revive Macaque, so Macaque actually has Wukong's heart contained within him, and feels all the emotions Wukong would be feeling if he had his heart. (as in, if MK tells him something exciting, Wukong will feel nothing, but halfway across the city in his dojo Macaque will suddenly feel the emotion of excitement and not know why). Later on, they end up transferring Wukong's heart to him, but for a period of time him and Macaque share it in order to get Wukong used to having emotions again.

Secret Relationship AU: Macaque and Wukong are already dating- but due to a series of circumstances they are outright hiding Macaque's general existence from MK and the others. This is mostly a comedy AU hsdlfkjsdlfs.

Seapearl AU: Wukong was born as a mermaid (or mer-monkey), and Macaque ended up becoming a mer-monkey due to the circumstances of his revival.

Wisp AU: When Macaque got revived, he split in two, the part of him that fully accepted what had happened and forgave Wukong, and the part of him that's in denial of, well, everything + 'hates' Wukong. The side that forgave him is called Wisp, and usually just stays as Macaque's shadow and goes along with Macaque's plans. (Technically, it kinda is more like Wisp is Macaque's shadow than it is one person split in two). Wisp is incapable of speaking until Macaque actually admits/says that he forgives Wukong outloud. (Macaque's hatred of/grudge against Wukong had been literally silencing his forgiveness).

Astral!Macaque AU: mentioning this one despite the only one post about it cause i think it's funny, but basically a version of MK time travels back from the future in order to prevent a really bad timeline- but ended up too early, and ends up possessing Macaque's body (and decides to try and recreate as many important events as possible). Macaque gets knocked out and kinda starts. haunting Wukong, up until episode 9 where he sees himself do stuff and is like “what the fuck who is that. who the fuck is possessing my body. what the fuck dude that’s not your skin get the fuck out who ARE YOU-”

Got back in the mood of my favorite magical girl series, the incredibly underrated Kaitou Saint Tail.

Our magical girl, Haneoka Meimi, is a 14 years old girl living in Seika, the only town in Japan where almost everyone is Catholic, and at night she acts as Saint Tail. Now, her peculiar things as a magical girl are the source of her powers and what she does with them: her magic is actually incredibly advanced STAGE MAGIC (though you would be forgiven for mistaking it for actual magic after witnessing some of her tricks like the Saint Tail Parade, and her routinely asking God for forgiveness because "there's no gimmick or trick" makes one wonder), and she uses it to help the helpless... By stealing (the series is called "PHANTOM THIEF Saint Tail" for a reason). If you live in Seika and suffered some injustice, Saint Tail will find out and correct it through some kind of theft.

How does she find out? Well, that's what her friend Mimori Seira does. She's a classmate of Meimi and an apprentice nun (the author admitted she didn't know the difference between a miko and a nun back then), and in the latter vest people tend to confide in her, allowing her to discover the injustices and send Saint Tail in, and sometime help her in the field (usually because she learned from her family how to make sleep perfumes, but has also acted as decoy).

Meimi's love interest is one Asuka Daiki, also known as Asuka jr., her classmate who's the son of a cop... And, after butting in on one of Saint Tail's heists, the one actually assigned to catch her by order of the mayor, courtesy of him coming very close to catch her. It also helps that Meimi, being a tsundere, once dared him to catch her... And that Asuka jr. may or may not have a crush on either Saint Tail or Meimi. The problem is, romantically speaking he's denser than a black hole, enough to completely miss Meimi's feelings, though here we can forgive him, Saint Tail's "theft warnings" being creative and rather transparent love letters, his other classmate Rina being quite pushy about her own feelings, and even HIS OWN until a question from Saint Tail makes him blurt out he's got a crush on someone (and even then he spent a couple days thinking about who this mysterious girl is. Not telling because Asuka has moments with both Meimi and Saint Tail). Thankfully, once it finally dawned on him he didn't waste much time...

I've mentioned Takamiya Rina, the mayor's niece. She initially butts in on one of Asuka's operations because her sense of justice is incensed at a thief having the gall of announcing her imminent theft, but continues because she both gains a crush on Asuka jr. and recognizes Saint Tail as a romantic rival... And having absolutely no sense of measure she's a far greater threat than Asuka jr. (he'd never use tear gas, for example), at least for a while. I won't tell you how exactly Saint Tail scared her off...

Another important classmate is Sawatari Manato, of the journalism club. Being someone who'd do anything for a scoop he was the target of one of Saint Tail's capers... And as Meimi cased the place by asking to visit the club, he immediately fell for her because she was the first girl to care for his interests rather than his (admittedly good) looks. His crazy antics often earn him a punch on the head from Rina.

We've also got Meimi's parents. Her father Haneoka Genichiro is a professional magician and Meimi's teacher (though she had surpassed him by the time she was 13), and her mother Eimi is a retired phantom thief (though not the most well intentioned one) with the name of Lucifer. She retired after meeting Genichiro gave her something better than her constant thefts just for sake of the challenge, and was proud of Meimi when she realized she had inherited her athletic and stealth skills. They're on perpetual honeymoon (as long as he doesn't hypnotize her, for a good reason).

Rounding up the cast we have Asuka Tomoki, Asuka jr.'s father. He's a police inspector, and back in the day was the one assigned to chase one Phantom Thief Lucifer (it's said he was "on the rebound" for Lucifer's sudden disappearance when he met his now late wife), while now he's officially the one assigned to Saint Tail's case (his son's authority is entirely unofficial, he's technically an observer who just happens to have the cops follow his instructions because he's just that good)... And smart enough that every time Saint Tail sends a "theft warning" he immediately starts investigating THE TARGET.

There's more I could tell you, but it could reveal too much, so instead I'll tell you it's really funny... And that the webcomic Megatokyo has two characters who are basically Meimi and Asuka jr. as adults (Sonoda Meimi even keeping her given name and being a retired magical girl and a kleptomaniac, and the author having said that something REALLY close to the end of the manga happened to them), with their daughter Yuki being a major character (and looking like Meimi with black hair and a different hairstyle).

He couldn’t be serious. Another one? What, was Yukie’s milkshake bringing in all the boys to her class? Despite Shinobu’s resolute expression, he was considering saying she was off. He really, really did consider not telling him a thing for a good second. Why would he? This… smug, white suit guy didn’t even deserve the information anyway. …The problem is, she’s sitting right by his side.

Hi! I read through your blog and i find your analysis so interesting! Personally i like a lot of the characters you criticise and you definetly helped me figure out my mixed feelings or think of a new perspective. (this isnt a bad thing btw i like hearing your perspectives) (Like, i always liked Toga but her character was iffy to me and Shinsou i liked but you made me realise i like the potential of him more than his canon lol)

Anyways, sorry if this is a weird question but who are two characters who never (or very little) interacted in canon that you would like to see interact?

Like i know theyre on opposite sides and have no reasons to but the two have some overlapping concepts. Mr Compress is descended from a phantom thief and Monoma calls himself Phantom Thief and theyre both crafty and sneaky character.

Does it make any sense? No. So i think they would get along? Absolutely not. Do i think it would be funny? Yes. Do I want them to eventually get along? Yes but they would be kicking and screaming.

Its purely self indulgent i admit. Sorry if its annoying but im interested if you have any characters you would also like to see together.

I’m glad to introduce new perspectives to others as that’s what I try to do here! I’m glad people like them! ^_^ And I don't self-indulgent stuff especially when it allows be to be as such. Anyway, Monoma and Compress would be interesting. Both do present themselves as thieves for the greater good and have out-there personalities. I have TONS of characters I wish interacted more. Below are a few off the top of my head but there’s not a lot of detail right now. (Maybe someday…)

Present Mic and Ochako; there’s a set-up for some good interaction as he obviously likes her a lot. No, really. I love Mic’s blatant favoritism with her and I think it would be nice for Ochako to have a personal cheerleader. They also have a lot in common by being the emotional support to underdogs they admire, being energetic, and having a focus on their careers.

Aizawa and Present Mic with Tsuyu; Tsuyu is my favorite candidate for the Maizawa Family child (along with Izuku). Tsuyu not only shares traits with Aizawa but Present Mic as well; All three share bluntness, and empathy, and take care of the ones they love. Tsuyu also shares Aizawa’s rational nature, Hizashi’s supportive nature, along with his ability to see the bigger picture. At first, Mic may be thrown off that he can’t read her expressions but over time he would be able to read her body language and realize her feelings easily. Tsuyu would take care of both the men, however, they never let her take too much upon herself (though it would be hypocritical all around). What Tsuyu has that neither don’t, however, is that she’s able to look at the bigger picture of things logically, whereas they focus more on the emotions of the people they love. Speaking of which;

Todoroki and Tsuyu; These may not show it, but they are very emotional people. They love and care for their friends and basically the mom and dad friends. However, where they differ is their morals. I think it would be interesting to see Todoroki’s ideology of, “screw it, I’m doing what’s best for my friends and family” vs Tsuyu’s ���Even though it hurts me, I will put what's right and the well-being of the world above my emotional needs.”

Hizashi and All Might; Shipping thoughts aside, these two have a lot in common, and I believe Mic would be able to help All Might come out of his shell more and help him with understanding people more. (Remember, All Might had to keep to himself for years to keep his secret, so social interaction isn’t his strong suit.) Likewise, I think Mic could use emotional support that isn’t tsundere-ish all the time or snarky.

Midnight and Momo: Both share the fact that they are very secure in their bodies (perhaps a bit too much). It would be nice to show Midnight giving Ochako more confidence in herself as a leader (especially since the manga wants us to believe that’s the case). Also, these two are opposite enough to be interesting as a mentor and mentee, as Midnight is someone very comfortable with her sexuality, and Momo is an Inugene.

Six and Izuku; I’m going to do an entire post on this someday but I think these would be very interesting as enemies.

Knuckle Duster and All Might: Polar opposites, yet they share the fact that they started off as heroes but lost their powers which ended their careers. (I like comedic opportunities with All Might trying to hold Knuckle Duster back from punching someone.)

Makoto and Hizashi: Mic has a busy schedule and Makoto can organize it. That and I believe that she’s one of the few that could handle his energy as she has just as much. If nothing else, she would be a good manager to him.

Character I really want to bitch about: Akechi Goro P5R. I can't really put it into words but god I hate fandom characterisation of Goro. Not in a "everyone woobifies him" way but "how can everyone ignore the huge fcking handle-with-care sign on him". I'm. Frustrated. Hngh. I'm sure I'm too hyper about this, but just. no. All of the tragedy of his character, his intelligence, his relationship with his mother is almost completely lost in "aggresively-tsundere serial killer". I don't get the need to... dumb him down or make him incapable of love or lacking in understanding and empathy while portraying his rather just anger at the world. His relationship with Ren too, the confusing love he feels and the way destiny works into their relationship to nearly destroy them both. I feel Ren is portrayed awfully... helpless and morally upright wrt Goro. Which does not make for good ShuAke. (They're foils, thesis and antithesis, not... I'm not sure how to explain it honestly). This is why I prefer JP Goro, a lot of nuance is lost in the English translation of the game itself.

i have said this before, i think, but a huge element of akechi's character is that he is deeply traumatized by humanity as a whole. he has little faith in the goodness of people and even less in systems and governments. he doesn't want to be kind to people because it doesn't end well for him. he cannot bring himself to help people because he has to think about how that might hurt him down the line, and no one else is going to think about his pain. also, he is 18. he's a kid! you know who else is a kid? everybody.

one of the best themes in p5 is how every phantom thief has their own traits that are reflected in akechi: ryuji and goro have similar relationships with their parents; ann and akechi are both public figures/minor celebrities with the self-image issues that entails; yusuke and akechi both have corrupt father figures who use them relentlessly; haru and akechi both have fathers who treat them like objects; futaba and akechi are both clever and lonely in their cleverness and unable to connect with other kids their own age. and akira, of course, always akira, but all of them.

any of the thieves could have ended up like akechi, if not for. if not for akira, if not for people who loved them and reeled them back from the edge, if not for each other. akechi is the only person who gets none of that until it's too late for him. of course he's bitter and jealous and hates everyone! anybody would, in his place.

another thing is that trauma just makes it harder for you to empathize with other people because all your resources are dedicated to getting through your own days. akechi isn't inherently unempathetic or incapable of kindness (not that lacking empathy is bad); he's just not in a place where he could exercise those traits even if he had them. he pretty much has to kill - we don't know what, if anything else, shido had to maintain control over him. can you imagine how much worse it would be if he spent time sympathizing with his victims and the consequences of his actions and then had to do it anyway?

and lastly, p5 stresses that children don't get choices. children don't have power in a world ruled by corrupt and callous adults. they have to bear the abuse until the universe takes pity on their misery and grants them a persona - but in akechi's case, a persona isn't enough. his life is still dominated by the self-serving cruelty of adults because it's not just power that saves you, it's also having other people who understand. and akechi never had anyone understand him until long after it would have changed the trajectory of his life.

as for the way akira gets flattened to his moral uprightness - lmao. pretty much the whole point of akira's character is that he would be exactly like akechi if not for, again: if not for sojiro, ryuji, ann, yusuke, futaba, all his confidants, hammering in over and over that what gives him strength is the bonds he builds with other people, and what keeps him moral is those same bonds. he was willing to kill! it's not that he's a better person than akechi inherently, it's just that the course of his life is dramatically different in ways that support him being good. it's a tenuous morality. he does have an internal sense of right and wrong, justice and injustice - akechi does too. it's not what made him good, though.

Okay I was literally listening to the OST and watching the cutscenes from this game yesterday after a long time of not interacting with it beyond @/is-there-a-rt-sequel-yet’s posts. I’m just going through a bout of being freshly obsessed with every video game I have ever played or watched so this is great timing. Also the cutscene where Phantom R meets Charlie at the cafe is the best.

Charlie’s design is very satisfying to me. I love the hat and coat as well as the dark red color. It’s just so perfect.

I love her frenemy dynamic with Phantom R where she won’t hesitate to protect him when his life is in danger but also reminds him that she’d sell him out for a corn chip. It’s kind of tsundere, and I wonder if she’d actually turn him in if she caught him or if he’d just “slip away, oops, so close” because she doesn’t want him to face actual prison and she likes the thrill of the chase more than she’d like the glory of stopping him.

I wish we’d see more of her outside of her “detective work” though. It’d be neat to have some scenes where she interacts with Marie. What kind of relationship would they have? It’d also be cool to have her talk to Raphael out of costume and not recognize him. Could they be friends? I’d like to see her probably hilarious reaction to finding out his identity. What would it take for her to break her tsundere schtick and be genuine? Or see her soft side? At least we see her repair her relationship with her father, which was pretty nicely done imo.

I love the post-canon fan content where she, Raphael, and Marie are a trio (plus Fondue ofc) who all operate together to investigate the main plot. That’s such a cute dynamic. I can see her slowly getting dragged into their bs and eventually just becoming one of them.

Where’s the sequel, Sega? I want character development for the hang-gliding, soccer ball punting, wannabe detective.

Official match protocols only allowed one manager on the court for each team. Fukurodani Academy’s Boys’ Volleyball team always had their lenient but reliable third year managers to get the job done. Third-years Yukie and Kaori had been your final salvation against the inevitable fate of having to care for the raucous boys alone. But today with some lucky fortune of theirs, they’d somehow coerced you into taking their place.

“...Will I experience any internal combustions by the end of the match?”

The three of you stood in a personal circle at the entrance to the gym. The three managers of Fukurodani, with your two seniors looming over you like two scheming birds of prey. They didn’t even have to ask why you were so worried; despite being a second-year, this was your first time to stand on the court with the team instead of panicking on your own on the sidelines. This time, you were in the game, up-close-and-personal.

“You’ll do fine~” Yukie grinned, raising her right hand in a lazy ‘OK’ gesture. “Besides, you’re a total expert when it comes to giving Bokuto a good knock in the head.”

If Bokuto’s vanity was a chronic disease, he’d need more than just a “good knock in the head” to be cured. But Yukie wasn’t wrong. Your praises, in comparison to the others’, had a quicker, more powerful effect on the ace. Though you weren’t sure if that skill of yours was more of a blessing than a curse...

“W-well, I’ll do my best,” you muttered, fiddling with the hem of your track jacket. Your seniors exchanged a look before smiling softly at you.

“Oh, and one more thing!” Kaori piped up as you lugged the bag full of empty bottles over your shoulder. “Can you act a bit bashful when you’re complimenting the captain?

“Why’s that, Kaori-san?”

“Bokuto thinks you look cute when you’re embarrassed.”

‘Cute’? What did that even mean? Did Bokuto always think people were ‘cute’ whenever they flash a single praise at him? Not that you remembered... What’s with that, you grumbled, angrily trying to get the concept into your skull.

Your eyes darted back to the court where—much to your distress—the other team just had to be painfully good at blocks. Now, you just hoped that the boys wouldn’t get too disgruntled.

The score was 12-15, with Torasaka Metropolitan High in the lead. Though Fukurodani had obtained their twelfth point with a lucky read on Torasaka’s setter dump, things were obstinately bleak for your team.

“I want to try it!” you heard Bokuto exclaim excitedly. From afar, you could already spot a few sullen scowls begin to form on his teammates’ faces. “Hey, ‘Kaashi, do you want to try that block with me?”

The setter sent you a pained expression enough for guilt to comically swallow you whole. Returning his attention to the ace who’s practically bouncing on his heels, Akaashi sighed. “Bokuto-san, let’s focus on our normal blocks first.”

A child! you thought incredulously as you watched the captain stick out his tongue at him. Though Bokuto was particularly a sight to behold when he’s in top form, just how confident could he be, trying something so risky in a middle of a tight match? Or was he just a complete and utter numbskull? You thought he was rather amazing for the juxtaposition... in a Bokuto fashion, of course.

As Washio prepared to serve, you watched the ace literally vibrate with eagerness of having such an “interesting enemy”. Whenever Bokuto got extremely fired up, it was your inevitable fate that you just couldn’t look away. The way his jersey hugged his hulking frame as he flexed his muscles in preparation to follow the path of the ball, it was nearly bewitching. If he had been like this his entire life, you were sure your heart wouldn’t take being with Bokuto for a mere second.

“It’s up!” Torasaka’s libero signaled, cleanly receiving Washio’s serve (much to the player’s frustration).

In your memory, Torasaka High wasn’t a much known threat until just recently. “Their new first years block like a fort,” you remembered what Coach Yamiji had said in the bus that morning. Despite far from being as crafty as Nohebi or as versatile as Nekoma, Tokyo teams were a force to be reckoned with.

What a terrifying sport, you thought to yourself for what seemed to be the fifth time this month.

“Left! Left!”

On the other side of the court, Sarukui, Bokuto and Akaashi scrambled to follow the ball’s trajectory. Though you were only a rookie in this entire volleyball thing, you were quick to notice that Bokuto’s footsteps were a bit smaller and slower than the first two...

Wait, is he planning to delay the timing of his block now?!

It was definitely a quick from the other side. It was evident, even to you. And when the two jumped to block the ball with their ace lagging behind, the ball had already streaked over him at a dangerous angle. Point Torasaka.

Landing on the pads of his feet, Akaashi’s expression shifted between “candidly annoyed” and “visibly concerned” as he watched the captain raise his head for his team to see.

“You’re kidding me...” Sarukui groaned under his breath. Behind him, the others followed promptly with their own reactions of disbelief.

His infamous salt-and-pepper hair deflating alongside his shoulders, Bokuto whined, loud enough for you to hear from the benches. “The hell... I thought I had that block mastered. Why’d they have to make it look so easy?”

Time-out! Akaashi turned to you and the coach a with pleading stare, hard enough for your supervising teacher to shoot upwards and signal the referee for their second break of the match.

Groaning, you stuffed your face in your hands, hoping that your senior managers in the audience were praying for your good health.

“What were you thinking?!” Coach Yamiji hissed, giving the sulking ace a well-deserved smack to the side of his head. Bokuto didn’t even flinch. “You could’ve—”

“Coach. Let me.”

Snapping his head in your direction, the old man grew pale when he heeded the dark aura that spewed from your body. Even the others, though they were only watching the entire event go down, was hyper-aware of the invisible, nightmarish fog that came with your frustration.

You’d always seemed so sweet and indulgent, never angry. Never. And yet Bokuto had finally gotten you to drop the tether that held your patience together.

Walking to Bokuto, you sent him a scowl so cold, he forgot how to blink. The rest of the team, the coach, your teacher and even Yukie and Kaori in the stands shivered from the sudden gust of frosty air that oozed from you. Some of the audience surprisingly turned their heads to watch the spectacle of the tiny Fukurodani manager who seemed like she was about to trample on their ace.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

“Bokuto, you—!”

You froze. No. If you scolded him now, that only make matters worse. Bokuto didn’t fare well when he was scolded by Kaori or Yukie either. Besides, you were his manager, not his mother. But what else were you going to do?

Bokuto thinks you look cute when you’re embarrassed.

Swallowing a nagging lump in your throat, you recalled the words of your seniors. Embarrassed? How do you do embarrassed? Was that even a thing you could pull off manually? Taking in a deep breath, you tightened your fist before loosening them in front of your body. Something was better than nothing.

“B-Bokuto-senpai...?”

“Senpai?!” the others snapped towards you, jaws on the floor. Even Bokuto was stunned.

Eyeing his interested gaze, you continued, fidgeting bashfully, “Bokuto-senpai’s such a slob... If you just listened to the others... you’d be a lot cooler...”

Komi tugged at the back of Konoha’s jersey, whispering in the blonde one’s ear, “She’s pulling out the ‘Cute Tsundere’ card!”

Stupefied, the wing spiker muttered, “Bokuto’s actually taking the bait... Scary. L/N-san’s scary.”

And take the bait he did. You didn’t even realize how red you were with the way he was looking at you—and the shade was fully unintentional, much to your chagrin. But Bokuto’s sullen mood was far gone, replaced with the brighter interest of infatuation.

“A lot cooler...?” Bokuto savored your words in his tongue, before whipping out both his hands to grab at your shoulders. “Y-You think I’m cool?!”

You didn’t even have to pretend to be shy anymore. The close contact of his skin, the scent of his sweat mingled with the musky aroma of his cologne and the pinkish tint on his cheeks. It was too much, and you soon wondered if Bokuto had always seemed this charming to you.

“Y-you airhead! Of course I do,” you mumbled, lowering your sight to the floor. “You’re already really good at volleyball, but you do things like forcing yourself to do a block you can’t do just because you want attention and... and now everyone has to bear that burden.”

“Please go on a date with me.”

You flinched in his grasps. This was escalating much faster than you’d hoped it would. Unable to register what he had said, you asked him to repeat himself.

“The cute Y/N-chan thinks I’m cool. That’s like a dream come true, right? So if I become cool again, won’t you go on a date with me?”

How unbelievable. One second he almost reminded you of the small boy that lived below your apartment, and the next he was like some sort of phantom thief, ready to whisk you away from the confines of your castle and steal your heart. You smiled earnestly; Bokuto Koutarou really was a man of many wonders.

Slipping yourself away from his grip, you raised an index finger between his eyes. “If you win... I’ll consider it.”

Like a phoenix rising from its ashes, the ace lit up once more. Revived, renewed, and heart set on taking you out. While dragging Akaashi back onto the court, Bokuto made it a point that he was looking at you all the way. You giggled. What an interesting person.

From the stands, your gaze traced the motto of Fukurodani’s Volleyball Club. Pour all your soul into each ball. Bokuto played with passion, with his emotions and whenever the time was right, with his logic too. For a while, volleyball seemed like the last thing you’d want to spend your life doing. But seeing the ace’s blushing grin to you when they’d scored the final match point... it might not be as bad as you thought it’d be.

Hana blush only grew deeper, but tried to focus on drying herself off with the soft pink towel. “S-sis…..” She stuttered as she wrapped her torso in the towel. “Y-you really don’t have to! I mean he seemed super tired after…I-I mean if you wanted to bring him you could but I wouldn’t expect him to be up for it…”

She couldn’t see her bathrobe nearby, so she had no choice but to step out in her towel. Not like she had anything to hide anyway...Fuuka had seen her scars during the bath, and so had Shinjiro when he rescued her…

Her chest heaved a heavy sigh as she stared hard at herself in the mirror. Now that HE had seen them...any slim chance with him went up in smoke. He kept his eyes off of her during the entire walk home, and she was certain he was grossed out by her.

When she stepped out and saw Shinjiro’s shirt on her bed she jolted. “E-EEEEEEEH?!” She shrieked as loud and shrill as a cat whose tail had been stepped on. “T-that was umn…my uniform got soaked and he gave me that to cover myself….” Which wasn’t a lie, there had been a storm and she had gotten soaked...to which Shinjiro stuttered at seeing her soaked and dropped his laundry to lend her a shirt.

“You’ll catch a cold you idiot…!”

Fuuka poked her cheek and sighed softly. “I think his coat will be absolutely fine dear. And I’ll be sure to find some cute, and relaxing, pajamas for you.” She helped her out, drying herself off easily, since she could take a shower later on tomorrow. Fuuka eyed Hana and crossed her arms after she left her to do the drying part off herself.

“Maybe it’s just who you are. He likes how you bounce off of him, personality wise, and it makes him crave you? Then again, Akihiko-san is a mystery and Junpei-kun likes to be a bit…of a show off. So, in my opinion, I think you have a winner!” She chuckled as she began to look through her closet while Hana made it back to her room. Fuuka wondered if she was a fan of big t-shirts or not–no, she had to be because that was Shinjiro’s shirt in her closet.

Fuuka’s eyebrows grew as she laid it on the bed, along with some shorts and panties. She turned on her heels and nodded slowly. “Well, maybe I can bring him down here so that you both can talk and have a one-on-one session. Let out everything you need to and give him your gift to him. Unless you don’t want to?”
