Okay I have absolutely no clue why this keeps slipping my mind, but can we talk about how in the scene at the theatre, (where Marie plays with the orchestra,) at the game where you dance with her
She’s in this beautiful gown with beaded roses and you just can’t take your eyes off of her. Everyone else is dressed just as if not more fancy….
And you’re… in jeans, a sweater, and some converse you’ve had for 3 years.

Okay, emblem analysis time! Sorry about the quality. It's a cropped photo of my 3DS.
Tumblr media
Okay, first off, we have three components here.
The Bottom resembles both wings and a crescent moon, which can correspond to both Moon Princess and potentially even the bracelet, at least visually in that second example (it's a winged dragon, after all ^v^).
The Middle is an upside down triangle, it kinda looks like the hanging gardens, but I also think it could broadly be earth. Interestingly, there isn't any royal title here.
The Top is obvious, it's the sun. That is the sun. "The Cross of the Sun King" is important, and light is needed for the crown's secret message (if I'm remembering things correctly).
Time to go into more overthinking territory. What I think could've happened if Rhythm Thief got a sequel: Marie, Raphael, and Charlie each being tied to one of these parts.
So, Marie is the moon, obviously. She knows Moon Princess. There's even a moon on her hairclip.
Raphael, I think, would be earth, assuming that's what the triangle represents. The Bracelet of Tiamat reacts to willpower, something associated with earth, and his item before that is a *metal* coin.
Then, by process of elimination, Charlie would be the sun, and their association would probably be established last. As far as we know, they don't have an item, so I can't pull from anything in that regard. If you associate the sun with the truth, Charlie is a private eye and finds out *something* at the end of family ties. Plus, they can get riled up easily, a trait given to some sun coded characters.
That's what went through my head, anyway. Honestly, Charlie being the sun just feels correct to me in a way that's tricky to put into words.

I haven’t had a chance to write anything for the 11th anniversary of Rhythm Thief and the Paris Caper English release, but I just wanted to share a headcanon… regarding Marie’s birth father.
I’m not suggesting the game could have been improved by his inclusion (Maybe he could’ve been mentioned in a potential sequel…), but I like to theorise so here we go.
In the game, Marie is said to be the ‘last blood descendant of the Babylonian royal house’. As Elisabeth is a duchess— a member of French royalty— I’m going to assume Marie’s father was previously the last blood descendant on Babylonian royal house. Emphasis on last and previously…
In her diary, Elisabeth makes no mention of Marie’s father (as far as Raphael reads, anyway) when she discusses the day Marie was born. This leads me to believe Marie’s father wasn’t in the picture when Marie was born… but still, Elisabeth describes this as the happiest day of her life.
I think Elizabeth was happy with Marie’s father (even if they were in a royal arranged marriage situation) and she knew he was the heir to Babylonian royal house, but this was kept under wraps, even from members of Elisabeth’s family—
Such as Jean-François. Oh, Jean-François… Surely didn’t set out with the intention of ruining his cousin’s happiness, but maybe he wanted to knock her down a peg?
Elisabeth appeared to be this ice-cold perfect DUCHESS… while Jean-François was a mere history pupil at the Sorbonne. A pupil with great promise (according to JF’s former teacher, Alàn) but that’s nothing compared to the DUCHESS. Jean-François has money— enough to donate to convents— but not DUCHESS levels of money. He can arrange to give this random convent girl violin lessons, but Elisabeth has power over politicians and influence over Paris' high society. Jean-François craves this level of wealth and power, enough to make France reign supreme.
JF just needed to find a chink in Elisabeth’s armour… and maybe he got that chance when Elizabeth fell in love. As far as JF could tell, the man she fell for was a complete a nobody. A worthless, poor musician with an old violin. What exactly did Elisabeth see in him? Did she really want to produce an heir with this man…?
JF starts digging, until he discovers the truth. He confronts Marie’s father with the help of some chevaliers… and this leads to Marie’s father’s untimely disappearance.
His disappearance— labelled ‘Mystère Incident’— panics Elisabeth and her family at first, but the family relax when they find out Elisabeth is pregnant. She’s going to have an heir… and that’s all that matters, right? Who cares if the father left?
Elizabeth cares. She cares a lot… and she has her suspicions about Jean-François. She suspects JF knows her baby is the last blood descendant of the Babylonian royal house.
Fearing Marie will suffer the same fate as her father, Elisabeth gives Marie away to the convent… where Marie falls right into Jean-François’s waiting hands.

Rhythm Thief is a game published by sega in 2012. It's a rhythm game that follows the thief Raphael, also known as Phantom R. Raphael's goal is to find his father, but he gets tangled up in a bigger mystery : anime Napoléon came back from the dead as a Zombie to become an emperor once again. As a french person, this plot in impossibly funny.
All in all, this game is awesome ! I really l'île the character designs, they are simple but efficient. The characters all have different personalities, my favorite being Charlie. Though, I could easily find a bunch of cons to this game : I feel like the characters could be deeper. The story is okay, it does its job as being a video game's red string for the different rhythm minigames.
Speaking of rhythm minigames ! They are very fun. They become more difficult with time, and some of them are really difficult (the one in which you control Charlie with the console's gyroscope was the WORST). With rhythm comes music. Rhythm Thief's music is really cool ! Very jazzy, exactly the typical-french-accordion type of tune, you know ? As the game takes place in Paris, the city is intensely romanticized. However, the mysic used during rhythm minigames are a bit... lacking ? Don't get me wrong, some of them are great ! Some of my favorites are the one in which you shoot at knights while controlling Vergier and the final battle against Graf, as well as the first stealth rhythm minigame. But qome lf them are just rhythm, not actual music, you know ? There are also a handful of sound-based puzzles, which are fairly easy, but I'm not complaining. I'm currently playing a Professor Layton game and I am clearly not clever enough for that.
Another thing that bugs me : thourough the game you will find hidden objects. Once you finish the game, there are three additionnal chapters yoi can unlock by finding all those collectibles (I don't know the english terminology for this game) : sounds and hidden partitions, and another chapter you unlock after getting an A score for ALL rhythm minigames. The problem is : sometimes, you can access a location only once in the game, and some of these hidden objects are in these one-time locations. So if you miss one you will have to start all over again. I just finished the game earlier, so I don't know if I missed collectibles in those areas, I still have to check. Getting all A scores will be a pain in the asssss uurggggg.
ALSO THE ENDING. SKIP THIS PARAGRAPH IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS. WHAT DO YOU MEAN NAPOLEON WAS NOT THE ACTUAL NAPOLEON ? WHAT DO YOU MEAN RAPHAEL'S FATHER IS STILL WITH THE REAL ACTUAL ZOMBIE NAPOLEON WAITING FOR HIM TO BECOME STRONG ENOUGH ?? WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE LAST QUOTE OF THE GAME IS "I WILL GET THE PLAN TO NEXT PHASE" ??? WAS THERE SUPPOSED TO BE A SEQUEL ??? WILL THERE BE ANSWERS IN THE ADDITIONNAL CHAPTERS ??? WHAT THE FUCK ????
Also there is a dog. His name is Fondue. This is a very important piece of information.
The game also features fully-animated cutscenes, which actually look great !
In conclusion, Rhythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure was an awesome game ! It is great for all fans of rhythm game, but it also features elements of visual novels and puzzles. In my opinion, it has a general vibe similar to Professor Layton, Ace Attorney and Doctor Lautrec (though I haven't played this one yet...), so check these games out too !

”Would you like to dance with me?”
R25 is one of my absolute favourite scenes in the game, it’s only natural that I’ve made a piece celebrating it! (Raphael should have worn the waiter uniform though!)
