Persona Stalker Club Episode 5 "I SEES It! Adachi Edition" Q&A

These were the questions asked about Adachi on the Persona Stalker Club broadcast where Mitsuaki Madono (Adachi's Japanese voice actor) was a guest. I've seen the answers to a couple of them floating around in English before, but not all of them.

Question from "Mochi-filled Cabbage": Good evening, Isomura & Kajita! When I heard about the "I S.E.E.S It! Adachi Edition", I couldn't help myself, and submitted a question. Now, my question is: Why do Dojima and Adachi wear the same red tie? It's weird that the two of them wear a plain, bright red necktie that would stand out like a sore thumb even if they weren't detectives. Was it just a coincidence, or is there a reason for this? Answer: Dojima couldn't stand seeing Adachi wear some old wrinkled worn-out tie, so Dojima gave Adachi one of his spares.

Question from "Loki": I have a quick question. Adachi's hobby is supposedly "revolver maintenance", but it doesn't seem like he can do things that require dexterity very well, and he's never shown actually maintaining a revolver in the story. Can he really do revolver maintenance? Answer: He does maintenance on model guns he owns at home since he can't take his police-issued revolver home.

Adachi can't take his revolver home because it stays locked up at the station. This is due to citizens stealing them from officers during the 1950s. Additionally, since he's a "plain clothes detective", he wouldn't be able to take his on the field unless he gets permission to bring it along for something specific.

Question from "Class 2-4": In a particular scene, Adachi whips out a lighter from his pocket. Does he smoke? Answer: Adachi doesn't smoke himself. He keeps a lighter on-hand in case Dojima asks for a light.

Question from "Hearing Madono in anime makes me think of Adachi": Adachi always calls the main characters "naive", "dumb kids", and generally looks down on them, but he's quite relaxed when it comes to Dojima, and I don't think he's ever said a bad thing about him. I want to know why Adachi is like that with Dojima. What happened when they first met? Thank you for your time. Answer: One of the reasons why is because when they first met, Dojima got him sushi so Adachi thought he was a good guy.

Question from "1st Year in the History of Persona Stalker Club Class": In the story, Adachi buys a lot of cabbage. What did he make with all of that cabbage? (Actually, can Adachi even cook?) Answer: Adachi would cut up a fresh ball of cabbage vertically into large pieces like it's a watermelon, and have it as a beer snack with some miso and mayo.

Madono's simple cabbage recipe: "Shred some cabbage, then shred from seasoned seaweed, and mix them both with sesame oil - easy and tasty."

Question from "I want to Become a Cabbage": I always love playing Persona games! Adachi, one of the characters in Persona 4, is now a popular character. He's become Persona 4's ratings guy / crowd pleaser. That said, when you were making Persona 4, were you consciously trying to make Adachi a character that wouldn't be hated but rather adored by the players? What is the appeal of Adachi, who, despite being "egocentric" (reference to his P4U2 epitaph), has acquired a loyal fanbase? Answer: During production, we cared about all of the characters, not just Adachi. We're quite pleased to see when a character unexpectedly becomes popular. As for his appeal, that's up to you.

MHA Headcanons: League of Villains

Toga will force other members of the League to give her piggy back rides (mostly Compress and Magne at first, but quickly spread to each member)

Toga pokes people as a sign of affection (she only breaks the skin of the people she has a crush on. Watch out Deku and Uraraka, you two are not safe.)

Dabi acts like a tsundere.

Spinner likes the cold, even he doesn't know why.

Shigaraki can, and will, walk in heels.

Spinner and Shigaraki constantly debate which Pokemons are better (this counts for Smash Bros or literally any game characters)

Shigaraki plays more RPGs (role-playing games) and survival/horror

Spinner plays more FPS (first person shooters) and dating simulators

Compress is a walking uno reverse meme. He'll have way too many uno game cards on hand that no one will be able to outplay him.

Originally I just wanted draw Dexter in a cheerleader outfit (an excuse to put him a skirt for pure funsies) and so I did! Which is art is below that i drew like a long time ago now.

It was just Dexter at first but I am a dexdark shipper so I had to have him react somehow. Then I remembered there was a comic about an athletic Mandark so I added him in his outfit from the comic.

Then my mind like it always does, wandered and created a short story to make sense of why they would be in this position in the first place.

Why didn't he try this sooner? And Dexter? He's so confused. Never thought his greatest rival would ditch him science for a mere physical activity. Determined to find the bottom of this he goes directly to the source of his confusion and asks. It goes as well as you think. Not at all. Plan B. Find a way to get close enough without raising too much suspicion. How? Cheerleading.

It honestly wasn't that hard to join. He's cute and flexible enough due to the battle he's faced through out the years. Plus a recommendation from his dear sister, Deedee, quickly received him a spot.

Ceffy is a squirrel that lived in a remote part of Mobius for most of her life. She lived as a hoarder who would buy, sell, and trade items for a living. Her ability to open a pocket dimension made it easy for her to move out from her parents house and around the world to continue seeking out collecting the strangest of items.

After discovering Earth, she moves there in order to add more items to her collection. She freeloads in a tree down the street from Espio and co.'s apartment. They all meet Ceffy and gradually she is introduced to the rest of the cast, eventually getting dragged in with their shenanigans. 1) “That`s what we gonna do tonight, let`s see what the new arc shall bring us, on Chapter 252: The unforgiven

Huh. Interesting tittle… Is it about Endeavor?”- Yes, though more about himself coming to terms with his permanent status as this. Thankfully it has a happier ending than the film did.

2) “Yep, it`s Endeavor. And well, I should`ve expected we still would have some things to deal with here, how Naive was I to think the new arc would already begin…”- Well, I don’t think we’re far off it, given we’ve ended this chapter with hitting all the points the arcs brought up to address, with thematic and skilful advancement all round.

3) “JESUS CHRIST ENDEAVOR, HAVE YOU NO MERCY FOR THIS POOR ASSHOLE? LET HIM GO, YA BASTARD, YOU`RE KILLING HIM!

Oh, and Natsuo as well, since we`re already on the subject.”- Endeavour can’t answer the phone right now, please call again when he’s not currently having an existential crisis over realising how bad a father he is that he almost lost two of his kids thanks to his poor character.

ON ICE WITH ALL THAT DEXTERITY”-  Bakugou keeps himself in peak physical form in order to always kick maximum ass as a hero, and accordingly, he could perform in any national athletic event he so desired to- he just feels that there’s nothing that stands out in the world of competition than the career of a hero, which, we’ve seen both the good and bad sides of throughout the story.

5) “Yell Heah Todoroki, you were the mvp on this fight, taking down the trigger-tripping foe all on your own. And even better, he`s not obsessed with you right now, so that`s a second victory this night.”- Ending’s world is just crumbling around him right now. You’d almost feel sorry for the guy, him having seemingly realised that Endeavour’s a changed man from the guy who he deeply wished would kill him and being in denial about his ‘light of hope’ no longer existing. Guess he’ll have to stick with more mundane suicide attempts next time.

6) “Alright, Bakugo suffered, Shoto was badass, now for Midoriya to get the praise he deserves for unleashing the darkness and managing to control it on his first try since the class fight.”- And again, Midoria is the only one who actually checks up on the civilians caught in the crossfire, though I guess it’s more justifiable here, because he was the one who actually handled most of the bystanders Ending almost ended and Natsuo is currently having a much-needed hash-out with his old man. 7) “oh wait, the fuck? You`re not going to be a fucking tsundere and say how the challenge is still going? You`re gonna accept the victory? Just like that? Deadass?”- I kinda got the impression Bakugou didn’t really accept the win, and was about to claim he didn’t actually count said victory against Endeavour himself before he man took the wind out of his sails. He just wanted to rub in the fact that Endevour slipped up and technically dropped the ball right to where he was ready to catch it, but Endeavour is in the exact opposite state of mind to have any kind of pride of self-respect right now, so he just lets Bakugou verbally walk all over him without caring a damn, which is honestly even more insulting for Bakugou. A challenge is a challenge only when both sides care deeply about not losing, and Endeavour’s just not in the right mood to think of himself in winning terms right now. 8) “And now, let`s resume the drama, because Natsuo there won`t just be smiles and forgiveness because his life was saved. A good act won`t erase a lifetime of sins.”- Plus the fact that Endeavour literally didn’t do jack to save him back there. Like, ok, I think he understands that he was too afraid to take action and knows that it’s a sign that his old man has changed a lot form who he used to be, but still, deeds, not words. 9) “Oh what- where are you trying to get at Endeavor? Are you implying you couldn`t save him because he would be mad, thinking he now own you his life,  or because you felt that even if you saved him he still wouldn`t forgive you?”-  Honestly, the fact that Endeavour realised, deep down, that he’d only be chaining his son’s spirit further down by saving him and that’s what actually gave him pause, realising that for all he was the greatest hero in Japan he could never save his own flesh and blood without worsening the already-twisted bonds they share, is a pretty sobering thought. It’s not just fear that held him back, it’s regret that he’s suddenly made plainly aware that his dream of being a part of Natsuo’s life is just that- a dream. He can never truly save or help his son any more, and in fact his attempts to do so would only hurt him down the line, so the only thing he can do for him is to stay away. He wanted to rush forward to help him, but he knew in that moment that he was the only person in the world that Natsuo’s heart would never allow to do so, and that really cut him deep. 10) “Also, ~not trying~ well you certainly had a weird way of showing it, doing exactly that. Well, you might not have had the intention to be a bastard, but that`s exactly what you did, and honestly you can`t believe how glad I am to see you saying that you fucked up big time and you tried to make yourself as the innocent one.”-  Endeavour never started out meaning to hurt his family so badly, things just got all twisted and distorted over time that he could no longer see the harm he was doing- in fact, he’s heavily implied to have willingly ignored the evidence that he’d taken things too far because he wasn’t able to accept the harsh truth and doubled down on his choices out of a warped desire to be ‘right’ in the end and have it all worth it- and now he can see that he’d been blinded for too long, and that he should have tried to make things right a long time ago, but that ship has sailed and all he can do is watch it move on without him. 11) “Oh yeah, even if he said he didn`t intended to, that doesn`t change the fact that he did, and more than that, considering that Natsuo and Toya were really close, Natsuo knows how deep his father`s cruelty went, so he won-

Now the dust has settled, all the drivers around them are focused on their evening commute, rather than seeing if there’s anything they can do to help the victims of this near-accident and ignoring the obvious drama playing out in front of them. The villain is beaten so now everybody can move on with their lives and these guys need to get out of the road! 12) “Oh no Natsuo, that`s fine. The thing is, you are in fact as caring as Shoto, but you care about your siblings and your mother, not the monster that made them suffer. You are a caring person, you just don`t care for a monster, and that`s totally fine.”- I think perhaps some part of Natsuo does care somewhat towards Endeavour, but it’s a small piece of his uncontrollable id and he’s ashamed of it, so he rejects it and Endeavour both by pushing him far away so he doesn’t have these twisting, conflicting emotions warring within him all the time at the sight of his father. Part of him agrees with Fuyumi, wanting things to go back to being a nice happy family, but the other half of him cannot accept Endeavour as a part of that imaginary household, and he feels guilty for standing in the way of his sister’s dream, because he understands emotionally how she feels about the whole situation as well, far more than he’s comfortable admitting, because that would also be admitting one piece of him does want a good father in his life, and he cannot achieve that desire because his only choice is Endeavour. Despite seeing how much he’s becoming the kind of person now that Natsuo wouldn’t mind calling ‘dad’ once in a blue moon, Natsuo cannot forget what he used to be, and cannot bring himself to pretend like that angry, abusive monster never existed and never hurt the family. Even if he knows logically that Endeavour feels regret for his old self, he cannot allow either of them to forget that old Endeavour, no matter how much it hurts them both as a permanent divide between father and son.

gets super hyped up when drunk and is definitely a big instigator when he gets some alcohol in him

kind of endearing to watch his inhibitions completely disappear as he reigns as the Big Brother who will definitely win against you in any alcohol related games like beer pong, rage cage, anything!!

the man is good at gambling, math, and probably loads more that we don’t know about yet, so I’m not surprised if he’s actually super good at any games related to dexterity and hand-eye coordination even when he’s drunk 

usually doesn’t really control himself with alcohol, so despite his tolerance often ends up bent over with a trash bag in hand

but if you’re there with him and aren’t familiar with alcohol, he’ll definitely tone it down and look out for you BECAUSE HE’S A SWEETIE 

Lucifer

more of a wine drinker, less of a SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS type of person

you think he’d be all suave and haha alcohol np--

but the error message of him hugging the router because he’s drunk tells  you he’s not as tolerant as people think he is AT ALL

he’s just very good at hiding when he’s inebriated, but even he can’t hide the tell-tale sign of his cheeks reddening  

against his brothers, he’s very good at controlling himself and taking in enough alcohol to amuse himself but not go out of control

unless he’s provoked and Diavolo (or you ;) ) are there

lowkey competitive, especially when he thinks he can win

for some reason always finds himself drunk as hell despite telling himself “ok, easy on the alc tonight” and starts to slur his words and be suuuuuuper relaxed (which is really endearing for you to see because he softens and is more affectionate and less shy about pda)

I hc that he’s actually a talkative drunk because he’s usually so composed and careful with his words that without the ihibitions, he’s freely speaking his feelings more (uwu) 

when he lets himself go though it’s so easy for him to embarrass himself LMAO and he’s lucky that most of his brothers are black-out drunk or too busy taking care of other people

super cuddly when he’s buzzed

after a few drinks, settles himself into a couch and just chills and fuzzily watches people chaotically chugging drinks

pretty happy with just doing this because he sort of enjoys just being in the background and seeing his brothers enjoy themselves

if he was honest before, oh he’s super honest now-- but in an extremely affectionate way:

“MC have I ever told you that your hands are super soft?”

“Ahaha Mammon you dance funnyyyy”

absolutely no filter on the love, the mad man

definitely conks out at like 11pm even if the party started like only two hours ago, blissfully unaware of any of the party aftermath and thus never really ends up helping during clean-up 

pretty hard to wake up-- but then again, he’s always hard to wake up 

you could probably pick up the couch he’s on and push it into a lake and he’d just wake up confused??? or stack things on top of him and he’d never wake up or move 

reminds me of that one vine where someone pours water on this girl’s face and she just wakes up and says “hello????”

Satan

the man wishes he had the tolerance of beel or lucifer or mammon god he wishes

but he does not-- not even CLOSE

is usually the designated driver and pretends he’s real cool with alcohol, but whenever he does drink, he’s out of the game SO QUICK 

maybe it’s because everyone expects him to be tolerant to alcohol because he sometimes sips wine when he reads, but he is not great at alcoholic party games so ends up being drunk really early in the party 

also, shots??? not the same

definitely the type of person to have taken a few shots at a time and be like “hm nothing is happening” and then feel it all at once 

he’s definitely learned from that first time he’s drank so NEVER AGAIN

so whenever he does drink, he knows his limits (and boy it is low) 

get super happy and-- not giggly persay, but he definitely has an easier time laughing considering he’s lost his inhibitions

not much can bring him down from this mood when he’s in the perfect zone between buzzed and drunk-- tries to aim for this zone every time but doesn’t always hit the mark 

has probably tried reading after drinking and just ended up sleeping with the book on his face

Leviathan 

doesn’t drink that much, doesn’t handle alcohol that well

...but people think he does because he always wins at party games 

the man has the best hand-eye coordination from gaming; he is the MASTER at beer pong and rage cage

hates shots because it takes him out so quick 

low-key one shot wonder, and his face gets so red after a few drinks 

handles himself with beer a lot better, but easy to get pulled into the chaos and gets challenged by MUCH more experienced and alcohol tolerant brothers (COUGH MAMMON)

usually tries to find excuses to not drink and prefers to sit and drink other beverages 

he is the master of the NAVY, give him WATER

would be part of clean up crew reluctantly, but if you need to be taken care of he is there for you--- no doubts about that

shyly puts an arm around you if you’re sleepy and makes sure you’re comfortable if you do end up falling asleep

also would end up taking care of other people (and actually does it really well), but does grumble under his breath bc he’s a tsundere

definitely has been on the bad side of drunk so is actually very protective of you if people are pushy with their drinks (it’s kind of sweet)

if you’re sober, you definitely have a friend with you who can watch on and remember EVERYTHING that goes on in the party and share inside jokes and good memories
