Salvation
sal·va·tion /salˈvāSH(ə)n/
noun: preservation or deliverance from harm, ruin, or loss.
——————
I wanted to explore Akiharu’s character and write out why he goes to Karasuno instead of Shiratorizawa like Wakatoshi and Takehiko, also to explain why his last name is different.
This does get dark, I definitely headcanon mama Ushijima to be... a less than stellar parent when it comes to raising her sons.
——————
⚠️ TW // toxic mom, gaslighting, psychological abuse, physical abuse, divorce, Rin blames the divorce on Akiharu, discrimination (Rin only cared about Akiharu because he’s right-handed and looks more like her), and manipulation ⚠️
——————
Wakatoshi is left-handed and so is his twin brother, Takehiko.
Their father, Takashi, never saw anything wrong with being left-handed, he thought that it would be something that made them unique and something they could use to their advantage.
But for some reason their mother, Rin, hated it. Said it was unnatural. That kind of thought process was pretty common, people viewed being left-handed as a sign of bad luck or malicious intent. Some even thought it linked you with the devil.
Wakatoshi and Takehiko were 6 years old when their father pleaded with Rin to let them continue being left-handed.
Akiharu had just turned 4.
He wasn’t quite sure what was going on as he sat by his mom and listened to the conversation, so he simply shrugged it off and resumed coloring.
Wakatoshi and Takehiko are left-handed.
Akiharu is right-handed.
Akiharu had to stay inside a lot growing up, he had a weak immune system and got sick if he was outside for too long. His mom said it was because of the grass or something like that.
While his big brothers played with a volleyball outside, Rin would cuddle him, cooing as she played with his hair. She’d tell him how special he was because he was right-handed like mommy, he wasn’t freaky like his big brothers.
“Freaky?” He tilted his head in confusion, “mama, what does freaky mean?”
“It means odd or strange, something not normal.” She replied coolly.
But big brothers Wakkun and Takkun weren’t odd or strange, in fact, they seemed more than normal to him.
Rin cupped his chubby cheeks with her hands, pressing her forehead against his.
“Haru, my sweet, perfect angel,” she started. “I’m so glad you’re like mommy. not only do you look more like me than the twins do, but you use your right hand like a good boy is supposed to. You’re the perfect son. The best son. I’m so lucky to have you.”
This was normal for Akiharu. Normal for five years.
Until Rin and Takashi got divorced.
“Are you going to take the twins?” Rin asked Takashi as they started making arrangements for the divorce, he frowned and shook his head.
“No. I think the boys should all stay together.”
Wakatoshi and Takehiko were 11.
Akiharu was 9.
A few weeks had passed after that, Akiharu was at home with Rin while Wakatoshi and Takehiko were visiting their paternal grandparents.
“You’re the perfect son. The best son. I’m so lucky to have you.”
Rin told him that a lot, especially whenever his older brothers weren’t home.
When they were home, she acted cold towards him, cold and unloving. It was as if he didn’t really matter to him like she said, it hurt and he constantly wondered what he did wrong until they’d leave once more and she’d go back to cooing over and coddling him.
Akiharu was 11 when he confronted Rin.
“You’re the perfect son. The best son. I’m so lucky to have you.”
“I know you only say that because I’m right-handed, mom.”
It had stunned her at first, making her eyes go wide with shock. But she mellowed out before flashing a sickly sweet smile that made Akiharu’s stomach bubble and churn uncomfortably.
“I say it because it’s true. You’re the perfect son for me and I love you.”
“Then why don’t you say it all the time? You never tell me that when Wakatoshi and Takehiko are here.”
When did Wakkun and Takkun become Wakatoshi and Takehiko? When did he stop calling them that?
He watched her eyebrow twitch, anger flashing in her eyes as she kept her smile.
“Don’t be selfish, Haru. Besides, haven’t you wondered why Takashi didn’t take you boys?” She hummed as she inspected her nails, acting almost as if this conversation was nothing new to her.
“it’s because he only wanted the twins, my angel. He loves those two so much, so much more than he could ever love you.” Her words were laced with pure venom as she set her hands back down on the table before glancing back up at him.
He felt chills creep down his spine.
“That’s not true, mama...”
“Yes it is, why do you think he taught them everything and didn’t include you?”
His heart sank at her words, shoulders visibly sagging.
“If that man truly loved you as much as he loves the twins, he would’ve taught you right alongside them. But he didn’t. Because he doesn’t even care about you.” She stood up and walked around the table towards Akiharu, who had tears streaming down his cheeks, and curled up next to him before gently nudging his head to rest onto her chest.
“He’ll never care about you as much as I do, Haru. That’s why I always tell you how lucky I am to have you, because I know he would never tell you that.”
He believed her.
He believed her for three more years, until he finally snapped at her.
“You’re the perfect son. The best son. I’m so lucky to have you.”
“Shut up,” he growled. “Shut up, shut the fuck up! I’m sick of hearing you say that to me! You don’t mean it, you never really mean it! The only reason you say that is because I’m right-handed and because I look more like you than Wakatoshi and Takehiko do! Because I favor the Ushijima side.”
They got into a very heated argument that night and it ended with Rin slapping him hard enough to make his ears ring, make his nose bleed and send him to the floor on his back; successfully knocking the air out of his lungs.
After that, anytime Wakatoshi and Takehiko weren’t home, rather than cooing and coddling him, she would slap him around. Sometimes going far enough to yell and blame him for her divorce.
He knew logically that the divorce wasn’t his fault, but the more she screamed it in his ears the more he felt like maybe it was because of him.
Maybe if Akiharu was left-handed like the twins, his father would love him like he loves the twins.
So he teaches himself how to write with his left hand in secret, practicing at school, at friends’ houses or when Rin isn’t around to yell at him. He gets good really fast and even figured out how to write with both hands at the same time, that’s still pretty difficult for him to do though.
The following year, before the new school year started up, Akiharu filled out the paperwork for Karasuno high school with his left hand; under the name Akiharu Utsui.
Not Ushijima.
Wakatoshi asked him why he wasn’t going to Shiratorizawa. Takehiko did not. He already knew why.
Takehiko knew what Rin was doing, he even made several attempts to stop her, trying to convince her to take out her anger on him instead of his little brother.
But Rin never yielded.
and Wakatoshi never got an answer.
By now, Akiharu had made plenty of friends over the years, ones that even taught him how to play volleyball so he could play with them at recess.
Including Kira Tsukishima: a tall, hyperactive, loud mouth, blond with an equally tall, but laidback, snarky twin brother in the form of Kei Tsukishima and Kei’s shorter, shyer, freckled friend: Tadashi Yamaguchi.
Kira was the one friend that Akiharu had told everything to, and before high school could start for them, Kira had suggested something very pleasing yet very dangerous as the four friends walked home.
“Hey Akkun, if you don’t want to live with your mom anymore, why don’t you just come live with us?”
“Kira, I can’t just move in with you-“
“Well why not? I’m sure our mom would be more than happy to take you in! Right, Kei?”
“If she knew what was going on, she definitely would take you in. Might even adopt you.” Kei chittered sarcastically, rolling his eyes.
“Would she? That would be awesome! Akkun, you could be our brother!”
“No way! Don’t you have enough brothers already?” Akiharu teased and lightly kicked Kei’s shin, which made the blond snort.
He wasn’t exactly wrong, besides Kei, Kira also had two older brothers: Akiteru and Hikaru. Akiteru had graduated high school a couple years prior and Hikaru would be starting his third year.
and as it turns out, mama Tsukishima was more than happy to let Akiharu live with them.
So he packed all of his essential things into the Tsukishima’s van under the guise of “their house is closer to Karasuno, it’s just for three years”.
Not like Rin really cared anyways.
Kira had also managed to convince Akiharu to join the boy’s volleyball club with him, Kei, and Tadashi.
He smiled as he watched them all fill out their sports forms, Kei and Kira were arguing over the importance of school sports while Tadashi simply laughed at Kira’s flamboyant reactions.
Maybe joining this team with his friends could give him the salvation he desperately needed.

In chapter 452:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We learn that Ichigo had a “grandpa Rin” and several cousins. Now you might be thinking that Tsukishima just made these up with his powers, but he can’t do that. Per Ginjō in CFYOW:
“So if you want to know what happened in that original past...there was never a half-Soul Reaper like Kurosaki. I was the only deputy Soul Reaper. So in that case, who killed my friends in my memory?”
“Wait a second. Aren’t they part of the past that Tsukishima altered…?”
“Tsukishima’s ability, the Book of the End, can stick Tsukishima into other people’s pasts. He can place memories and events relating to himself into other people’s histories, but he can’t just conjure up someone who never existed. So the person we thought was a half-Soul Reaper was actually just one of the Soul Reapers I killed after I went into a rage.”
Tsukishima must replace someone who actually exists. For Orihime, he was Sora. For Chad, Oscar Joaquin de la Rosa. For Byakuya, seemingly Ginrei (or maybe Yoruichi). He can do anything he wants after that point (to include beating Final Fusion Aizen) but he has to start with a real person. So...
Who is grandpa Rin, and how does Ichigo have cousins?
Isshin doesn’t have family on Earth. Masaki is the last of the Kurosaki household, which is why she was taken in by the Ishida to begin with. Fanon likes to imagine Uryū is Ichigo’s cousin because Masaki and Ryūken lived under one household, but they weren’t actually related (hence the marriage) and “Rin” is a weird thing to call Sōken. But wait, it gets weirder!
Tumblr media
This, 燐じいちゃ, does say “grandpa Rin” but that kanji for “Rin” is really strange:
Tumblr media
Grandpa Will-o’-the-Wisp. Nothing sussy baka about that at all.
Now onibi are typically blue which does indeed suggest a Quincy, but that would mean that all three Kurosaki siblings were openly exposed to Quincy powers to come up with that nickname. And even if it is Sōken, Uryū would only be one of their cousins. Who would the others be? Uryū is an only child. Did Sōken have other children besides Ryūken?
Or is this someone else entirely?
(Either way, it is totally canon legit to come up with your own Kurosaki cousin OCs.)

Introduction
Hello, my name is Eevie and I write Haikyuu fanfiction. I’m about to embark on a very time consuming journey. I am about to establish my own Haikyuu fanon universe. Now, what does that mean, exactly?
Well, basically, this is me collecting headcanons and interpretations in one big universe through several connected fanfictions. This means that in the canon of one fanfic, the other fanfics in the fanon are also canon. So there can only be one ship for each character unless they break up with their old character, the ages and timelines stay consistent and the headcanons stay consistent. This is mainly about names and ages for sibling ocs and the timeline bits. So, let’s say in a BokuAka-centric fic in the fanon Bokuto’s favorite color is yellow and his sisters’ names are Hideyo and Fumiko, then in a KurooKen fic in the fanon, his favorite color is yellow and his sisters’ names are Hideyo and Fumiko (example taken from a fic that is actually not in the fanon because I haven’t edited a fanon fic far enough to use an example).
I am also collecting information in a Google Doc and detail the characters’ lives and give a timeline of events. I don’t want to spoil the fics and I don’t want to give away all the details yet, so I will only post it when it’s done. For now, here’s a list of fics with the associated characters (note that not all the pairings are meant to be ships but which ones are a secret so far):
- Remember When It Could Have Been Me (Sakusa and Atsumu)
- I’m Not Your Boyfriend, I Hate You (Kyoutani and Yahaba)
- When All The Pieces Fall Into Place (Suna and Osamu)
- Fake Tales From Shiratorizawa (Shiratorizawa and others)
- Your Words Hurt (Tsukishima and Yamaguchi)
Fics that don’t have a title yet (with title ideas):
- Kuroo and Kenma (Not The Same | I’m Trying But I Can’t)
- Kawanishi, Shirabu, Semi, Yamaguchi and Tsukishima (Sometimes Things Just Work)
- Suna, Osamu, Atsumu and Sakusa (its a sequel to the other two fics about them but there’s a reasons this one is a separate fic)
I will update you whenever I have new information. Either way, look forward to headcanons and complimentary posts to my fics soon!!

Okay so 3 things
1) I deadass am so bad at reading things that when I saw you say "73 page chapter" I read 73 chapters and immediately went "OH NO", but I'm right there with you on that feeling of dread honestly
2) if Kubo is trying so damn hard to push Ichika/Kazui why didn't he just....yknow....make IchiRuki the endgame— (I'll always be salty about it to, I'm a filthy OC x Canon shipper with a certain glasses clad boy who was done dirty, but I still think he should've been the one to end up with Hime)
3) I'm right there with you on Chad and Hime being basically useless, which, as a latina who loved anime so much growing up, I was so happy to see hispanic representation in a time where people weren't actively pushing for it, like, wow!! He's just there just because!!! But then he was somehow more useless than Ichigo's siblings which hurt me deeply! Chad deserved better and the fullbring arc should've actually MEANT SOMETHING
1.) i MEAN.... LOOK MAN ITS APPARENTLY A NEW ARC SO AS FAR AS WE KNOW THIS VERY WELL COULD BE ANOTHER 73 CHAPTERS
Kubo has a very hard time getting to the point, he tends to drag things along and add more characters that clutter up the plot.
2.) Yeah Ichika / Kazui don't really have chemistry to me, though we really have only seen them interact like once? like I said before, it's like a Renji x Orihime, and I do not see it working out at all, (those two don't even know each other, nor are they friends. )
Of course, Kazui and Ichika have slightly differing personalities from their parents, but they're kids, and Kazui is a demon while Ichika is somewhat normal (ironically) So I think this ship is a really bad idea.
I can definitely see Kubo doing this Ichika x Kazui thing as some weird form of damage control, which is really only going to upset people more.
what is most infuriating is that Ichika and Kazui seem to sneak off to both SS and the living world however much they want to see each other (or other people from the other sides), meanwhile Rukia didn't visit Ichigo for like... YEARS when he was struggling and failing to adjust to his human life after he lost his powers and i'm like??? Excuse me what is that about?
Rukia had a death wish, everyone in SS (Ukitake and Kaien are exceptions) wanted to kill her / ignored her/ didn't care about her, (Including Renji and Byakuya)
Ichigo had the same welcoming personality of the man she was in love with, Rukia never actually knew what it meant to be human... I mean Rukia Kuchiki's entire arc was supposed to be about Death learning how to live and love. She learned what family is. She learned what friends are. She learned what faith is. She learned about new tech and kindness and juice and...... She was given the world, and yet she chose death. That will never make sense to me. That's when BLEACH officially lost sight of what it was meant to be.
and yeah having Orihime get with Ichigo instead of Uryu hurt already, but Kubo made it worse by taking Uryu off the team. That whole speech about how he's doing this "for his friends" and yet in the end they're not even friends? He's not even in the final cover page. Uryu should have just joined Yhwach and killed 'em all for a single world. Would have shockingly made more sense than all this.
~~~
3. Yeah the FULLBRING arc was completely useless. I've seen people attempt to defend it, but literally, nothing happens. Ichigo just gets his powers back. None of the fullbringers really matter, we never learn who Ginjo and Tsukishima are and their pasts and how Xcution came to really be... it's legit a repeat of the Vizard recruitment mixed with Kokuto's Hell betrayal plot lines. Riruka was the only character I cared about. Everyone else was just "meh". Orihime and Chad are fullbringers yet we didn't explore their powers nor gain independence realizing their powers are their own and not gained from Ichigo like they originally thought in the first arc, etc.. (also wtf Orihime's brother was sent to soul society and she never seeks him out / finds him????? What's that about? And how is Keigo more powerful than Tatsuki? How has Tatsuki not become a fullbringer? That's bullshit)
But yeah Chad and Orihime became the most useless characters in BLEACH. Orihime is hated more because she hogs (and wastes) the most screen time by not developing or helping, while Chad is just off-screen. I could make a 40 min / hour long video about how Orihime and Chad are failed characters. Arc 1 they're golden. After that, they're just goners.
Haikyuu!! Boys and who’s sister they’d unknowingly date
**Keep in mind, it may happen that not all of these characters actually HAVE sisters, but let’s just ~pretend~ for entertainment purposes. I also put in names for the sisters, but feel free to put your name/an OC’s name and descriptions!!**
Characters: Akaashi, Washio, Konoha, Kita, Ushijima, Yahaba, Iwaizumi, Futakuchi, Daishou and Numai.
This has taken me...days.. I kid you not. THESE ARE REALLY LONG oOps
**I HAVE ADDED Numai Kazuma BECAUSE HE IS AN INCREDIBLY ATTRACTIVE MAN AND NEEDS MUCH MORE ATTENTION**
Akaashi Keiji:
It was during the Tokyo training camp.
Akaashi was with Bokuto, Kuroo, Tsukishima, Hinata and Lev in the 3rd gym in the middle of another 3 on 3 match.
Despite his initial concerns they weren’t doing too bad. It helps that the other team was comprised of 3 middle blockers where no one adequately knew how to set, and their newbie (Hinata) was just a *little* bit better than Lev.
“TETSURO YOU JERK!!!” They all turned towards the door where a girl wearing a black t-shirt with red athletic shorts came running in, straight towards the middle blocker. Kuroo, who had a smirk across his face began to retreat.
“Welp, looks like it’s time for me to go. See you guys later!”
“Oh no you don’t. Where did you put my phone?! It’s been missing for over 2 hours. 2 HOURS!”
Akaashi looked at the girl, noticing she was really pretty. She had beautiful brown eyes, and her black hair was styled into two French braids, which were bouncing as she desperately tried to attack the middle blocker.
“Try checking the club room, I saw him and Bokuto go in there earlier and come out snickering like idiots,” He heard an offended gasp from Kuroo and a ‘Hey!’ from Bokuto. “Thank you, at least someone here has some decency.” Akaashi nodded.
He didn’t really know what it was but he felt intrigued by the girl and he wanted to know more about her.
“I’ll come with you, I have an idea of where they might have put it.” The girl smiled and nodded her head. As they were making their way out of the gym he heard Kuroo say ‘simp’ while Bokuto asked ‘who is’, he stopped listening after that. He spends too much time with them as it is, it’s best to preserve the brain cells he can.
“I’m Azumi by the way, thank you for helping me, you didn’t have to do that.” Akaashi smiled, “I’m Akaashi, it’s not a big deal really You’re actually doing me a favor by getting me out of there.”
The girl, Azumi laughed. ‘She has a pretty laugh..’ Akaashi’s eyes slightly widened at his thoughts. He just met the girl! What’s wrong with him.
Pushing the thought aside he continue to chat and talk with the girl, learning she was also a second year and Nekoma’s manager.
They got to the club room and started looking for the device.
“Why did they take your phone?” Azumi sighed and shrugged her shoulders. “My best guess is for their own entertainment, Tetsuro is always doing things like that.” Akaashi nodded and tried his best not to appear as disappointed as he felt.
Of course she’s dating Kuroo, he’s smart, good looking popular. Figures...
“Sometimes I wonder why out of all the people on the planet I had to get him as a brother, y’know?” Akaashi’s head shot up at her words.
‘Brother?!!?’ He almost laughed at himself. Looking at the situation now it was obvious the two were siblings. He smiled, he still had a chance.
“Yeah I know the feeling. Sometimes I think, out of all the spikers why did I have to get Bokuto.” Azumi laughed again, “I don’t think Fukurodani would still be standing if you weren’t there to reign him in. Not to mention you’re a really good setter and vice-captain.” He felt the tips of his ears turn red as he tried not to stumble over his words.
The rest of the training camp went smoothly, the two became pretty solid friends and exchanged numbers making plans to meet soon.
He went home with a smile on his face and a warm feeling in his heart.
And then he realized, he had a crush...
A crush on Kuroo’s little sister...
oops.
Washio Tatsuki:
Washio had just gotten out of practice, a really good practice actually.
Everything went pretty smoothly, Bokuto had no tantrums, he nailed a really good spike and it was just a good day all around.
Because of this wonderful day, he figured he’d go to a café he had been wanting to try.
It was a small little coffee shop that had opened about a year ago but he hadn’t had the chance to go yet.
He walked in and was seated by the hostess at a small table by the window.
“Hi there! My name’s Yui and i’ll be your waitress today! Can I get you something to drink?” Washio looked up to see a girl, somewhere around 5′7, with white/silver hair that was tied up in a ponytail. She had the biggest smile he had ever seen, heck she was probably the prettiest girl he’d ever seen.
He ordered his drink (focusing hard so he wouldn’t mess up in front of the pretty girl) and she gave him another bright smile.
“Coming right up!” She walked away going behind the counter to get the drink. Apparently the girls enthusiasm was contagious, because Washio swore he was feeling better than when he and walked in here. And he was feeling pretty good.
She also looked really familiar..but he couldn’t place just where she seemed familiar from.
Removing himself from his thoughts he turned his attention back to the girl, who was back with his drink.
I really hope this doesn’t sound weird or creepy, but do you go to Fukurodani?” Washio seemed a bit surprised by this, but he chalked it up tot he fact he was wearing his school uniform.
He nodded, “I do, do you go there too?” The girl excitedly nodded her yet. “Yup! I’d know that uniform anywhere! Oh! You’re on the volleyball team! Washio, right?” He nodded again. “Sorry if I seem random, my brother’s on the team too so i’ve seen a few games. You’re really good!”
Washio could feel his cheeks burning. No one had ever complimented him like this, well aside from his coach/teammates and family.
“T-thanks...it means a lot...” The girl smiled, a bit more sheepish this time.
“Of course...you’re actually my favorite to see play. My brother’s a spiker so I’m used to his antics but it’s nice to see talented blockers too. Plus, blockers are much cooler in my opinion. OH! I’m still at work, um, here...” The girl reached into her apron and gave him a little note.
“I hope we get to talk again soon, bye Washio!” Before he could even say goodbye the girl had pranced back to the kitchen.
Looking down at the note she gave him he could feel the blush on his cheeks but he didn’t care.
Because written on the note was the girls number, ‘xxx-xxx-xxxx, <3 call me~’ he smiled, he for sure was gonna call her later.
Before he could put the note away however he noticed the writing at the bottom.
...Now he knew why she looked so familiar.
Because signed at the bottom was, in adorably messy handwriting, ‘Yui Bokuto’.
Oh boy.
Konoha Akinori:
Konoha had been chilling at home when his younger sister, who was a first year at Fukurodani had come home, announcing she had brought a friend home.
Standing up from his place on the couch he stopped in his tracks. In front of him was the prettiest girl he had ever seen.
She had medium length dark brown hair and beautiful gray eyes, she was taller than most females, around 5′6 would be his guess, but she was still a few inches shorter than him.
Looking at her, she looked...familiar? He didn’t really know where she seemed familiar from, school maybe?
He shrugged it off, deciding it wasn’t something worth driving him crazy.
She introduced herself (his sister introduced her really, the girl was pretty shy) as Momo, he didn’t catch the last name though.
Anywho as the afternoon went on the girls remained down in the living room doing homework, which they needed help with. Luckily Konoha was a few years ahead and had already gone through that, so he helped them with their homework.
Seeing as it was the middle of the year and mid terms were coming up, the girls would ask him for help a lot.
Now, he may not have the best track record of helping others (...i.e Bokuto with spiking *cOuGh couGh). But this was his little sister! And it definitely wasn’t because he had a *little* crush on Momo...definitely not...Okay maybe.
But it’s not like she didn’t have just as bi of a crush on him so..
Anyways, one day Konoha’s little sister, Azumi had to leave early for a doctor’s appointment but Momo still needed help.
Knowing her brother was a ~gentlemen~ and Momo didn’t have a problem with it she left the two alone.
They were both...nervous. I mean who wouldn’t be! They were both unknowingly left alone with their crush.
Konoha decided he’d just start a conversation, and with that conversation the two found out they actually had a lot in common!
Konoha found out she had an older brother, who also went to Fukurodani! She didn’t mention a name though..Oh well.
The two spent the afternoon chatting and getting to know each other! And he may or may not have gotten her number...For studying purposes of course!
At about 4:47 there was a knock at the door. “Oh, that’s probably my older brother!” Konoha nodded, but walked over to check.
He opened the door...”wASHIO!?!  What are you doing here?” The middle blocker looked just as shocked. “I’m here to pick up my little sister...” Konoha just about felt the color drain out of his face.
. . .He had a crush on Washio Tatsuki’s little sister. . .
Oh he was dead.
Kita Shinsuke:
It was during lunch one day when a 2nd year had approached him, Reina Omimi.
She was very pretty with long silky black hair, slanted gray eyes standing out to him but what caught his eye the most was the cute smile on her face.
She asked him to tutor her, since she was having trouble in English, he agreed asking her to come to class 3-7 after school since he didn’t have volleyball practice.
So, the two started meeting each other after school on the days he didn’t have volleyball practice and she was free from her club activities.
He truly thought it was a coincidence.
I mean, sure there were similarities beyond their names but couldn’t have been that rare right? Besides it’s not like everyone with the same last name was related.
Anyways, soon enough the two had gotten so close, they started dating!
They had yet to meet each others families, not on purpose of course! It just didn’t seem like the biggest priority on top of everything else going on.
One day before practice the boys were in the locker room changing from their school uniforms into their practice clothes.
All was fine until *Atsumu* just had to bring something up..
“Say, Kita, I saw you with a girl the other day, who was it?”
Kita, being unbothered by the question answered, “My girlfriend” the whole locker room went quiet before erupting in a chorus of ‘wHaT?!’, ‘who is it’ and other unintelligible things.
“Her names Reina, she’s in class 2-6 so I doubt any of you second years know her.” That instantly shut up the rambunctious (minus Suna) second years (Suna and Osamu are 2-1, Ginjima and Atsumu are class 2-3...).
...But it did intrigue a certain 3rd year.
“Shinsuke...what’s her last name?” The captain in question turned to the third year middle blocker.
“It’s Omimi, wh-...oh.” Realization hit him like a truck.
The name, the hair, the eyes, the brains...how didn’t he see it?!?!
After Omimi assured Kita he was fine with him dating her, the team got on with practice.
But let’s just say it was a fun conversation to be had between Kita and both Omimi’s...
Suna Rintaro:
To be fair, NO ONE knows how this happened!
SUNA doesn’t even know how this happened!
Anyways, Suna had been going for a walk (his parents had kicked him out of the house for the day for being lazy) when he bumped into her, Megumi Kita.
He recognized the name when she introduced herself, but he didn’t put two and two together.
Kita had brought her to practice about a week or so ago and had introduced her but Suna had been asleep in the club room so..
Anyways, megumi had been on her way home from the store when she and Suna collided.
Seeing as it was his fault and he wasn’t allowed back in the house yet anyways he offered to help her bring the groceries to her house.
When they got there they were immediately greeted by Yumie Kita (Kita’s grandmother), who insisted Suna stay until he could go back home. (*and her granddaughter was single and he is a very handsome young man)
Not being able to turn down the sweet elderly woman he gratefully agreed. The afternoon went on smoothly.
A few hours after his exile his mom texted him telling him he could go back home.
Wanting the two to spend more time together Yumie insisted Megumi go back with Suna, and to meet her older brother on the way back since he was nearby.
The walk was filled with playful banter and getting to know each other.
So when they got to Suna’s house he obviously asked if she’d see him again and she happily agreed.
It wasn’t until he tried to sleep that night he remembered why that name had sounded so familiar.
Fast forward two months, Megumi and Suna were happily dating, er happily dating in secret. Why? Because the two knew Kita would not be happy to know someone (from his team nonetheless) was dating his little sister.
It was during practice one day that the fateful encounter had occurred...Suna had mysteriously disappeared, and Kita’s little sister who had come to watch had disappeared as well...The team went on a scavenger hunt for the sleepy middle blocker, figuring the sister’s absence was just a coincidence.
Until they found them snuggled up and asleep in the stairwell...
Suna did a few extra drills that practice...
And for 5 practices after that.
Ushijima Wakatoshi:
Okay...to be completely fair...he knew she was Oikawa’s little sister.
He met her at the beginning of his second year when she became the first year manager at Shiratorizawa.
Due to her sweet and kind personality, which he found greatly contrasted Oikawa’s he took a strong liking to the girl one she returned.
At first the two were just friends but as they spent more time together they developed feelings for each other.
Despite not going to the same school, and Natsuki staying in the dorms the Oikawa siblings remained close.
So Oikawa knew she went to Shiratorizawa...and that she was their manager...he just didn’t think she even TALKED to Ushijima.
Let alone that she was DATING him!
N E wAys Ushijima and Natsuki were out on a date, it was a Saturday and the two were out and about in town.
The two had just exited the café they were in when they heard a loud gasp.
Turning around the two were met with....basically all of Aoba Johsai.
And a broad range of reactions.
Oikawa looked DiSgUsTeD, iwaizumi looked conflicted, Yahaba showed a *hint* of surprise, Kindaichi looked scared and Hanamaki, Matsukawa and Kunimi were all laughing at their captain.
“wha-why-how-hUH!?!?! HOW DID THIS HAP-” He was promptly cut off by a firm slap to the back of his head. “Get over yourself loserkawa! You should’ve known you couldn’t control her forever!”
Whining from the blow to the back of his head Oikawa turned to face the love birds, staring down Ushijima and proceeding to look his little sister in the eye.
After much mental deliberation (and another hit from Iwaizumi) he sighed and turned around, waving a dramatic hand in the air.
As he walked away he shouted, “Oh~ But don’t think you’re getting off easy now Ushiwaka,” He momentarily stopped to turn his head and give the two a *look. “We will be discussing this later.”
Yahaba Shigeru:
 After a game ended he was headed towards the locker room when someone stopped him.
She introduced herself as Emi and said she wanted to say he played really well.
Yahaba, thinking she was really sweet and cute asked for her number which she gladly gave to him.
As he walked to the locker room, he couldn’t stop thinking about her beautiful long black hair that was perfectly curly.
She really was quite pretty, one of the prettiest girls he’d ever seen.
Fast forward a week, he had asked the girl on a date and she’d said yes!
So now, he was headed to an address she had given him to pick her up.
She was running a bit late so she told him to knock on the door and her older brother would let him in.
Making sure he looked his best he got out of his car and knocked on the front door.
He almost choked when none other than his teammate, Matsukawa opened the front door confused as to why Yahaba was there.
To stunned to answer coherently, Mattsun’s little sister skipped past her brother and gave Yahaba a hug, explaining to her brother this was the guy she had been talking about.
...Yahaba knew he was in for it later when he saw the look Matsukawa was giving him...it was the same look he had perfected as a middle blocker.
Y’know, the one he used to intimidate his opponents.
Nervously gulping Yahaba promised to have her home at a reasonable time and nervously left with his date.
The next practice was a dreaded date for the poor man.
Iwaizumi Hajime:
Iwaizumi had been racing the halls of Aoba Johsai (he was late to practice...) when he had accidentally bumped into someone, sub sequentially knocking them to the ground.
Looking down he saw that he had bumped into a girl he had seen around, Kanna something or the other.
Apologizing he was quick to offer her a hand up, which she gratefully accepted.
He helped her gather her things and discovered she was on her way to deliver some papers to the guidance office.
Seeing as he was responsible for them being knocked to the floor he offered to help her take them there.
On their way to the office Iwaizumi made some small talk and got to know somethings about the girl.
He knew the name ‘Kyotani’ but he didn’t think anything of it especially since she was so nice and sweet!
So he figured it was a coincidence the two had the same name.
After that day the two would meet for study sessions, lunch, etc. Until they eventually started to go on dates.
So when he asked her to be his girlfriend, she had agreed.
On this specific day the two had plans to hang out after school, but because of a quick team meeting after practice Iwaizumi would be late to pick Kanna up after her club.
She assured him it was fine and that she’d just meet Iwaizumi at the gym.
“The HECK are you doin’ here?” Iwaizumi turned from where he was chatting with Hanamaki to see his girlfriend had just walked into the gym.
“Shut up Kentaro! Oh, Hajime! Sorry if I’m a bit early, club ended sooner than I had expected.”
Iwaizumi walked over and gave his girlfriend a short kiss on the lips, which wasn’t that weird since they’ve been dating for a few months now and had kissed several times.
“Are you serious? Right in front of my salad?” The whole gym (minus one player) cracked up at Makki’s joke, Iwaizumi rolling his eyes.
“Chill out everyone, this is my girlfriend, Kanna-” “GiRLfRiEnD!?!”
The team now directed their eyes towards Kyotani, who was a mix between fuming and shocked.
“Oh shut it Kentaro! You knew I had a boyfriend.” Kanna rolled her eyes at her overprotective younger brother. He sputtered a bit before he could formulate a response, “yEah, but I didn’t know it was him!”.
Before young Mad-dog exploded Yahaba came over and dragged him by the collar back to the court to ‘practice his spikes’ or whatever.
Futakuchi Kenji:
He swears it was an accident!
How was he supposed to know she was Aone’s little sister?!
Futakuchi had gone over one afternoon to work on some homework with Aone.
When Futakuchi knocked on the door, a beautiful kind looking girl opened it, asking him why he was here.
Introducing himself as a friend of Aone’s, the girl let him in, figuring he was  friend of her brothers.
You see, before Futakuchi had come over that afternoon, Aone had warned him his younger sister had some friends over.
So naturally he assumed the girl who answered the door was one of those friends since the girl (whose name he learned was Niko) and Aone looked absolutely nothing alike!
She was also quite bubbly and extroverted, easily keeping conversation with the girl.
Being the absolute charmer he is he begun lightly flirting with the girl.
And IN HIS DEFENSE!! She flirted back.
IT WAS ALSO AT THIS TIME THAT AONE HAD COME DOWNSTAIRS.
A look of concern came over his face as he saw Futakuchi flirting with his little sister.
Quickly walking over to the two, he pushed Futakuchi away (by his face of course) before turning to his younger sister who was frantically asking why he’d do such a thing.
“You know that guy on the team I always talk about.” Niko looked at him confused, “You mean the scummy one with a terrible personality?” Aone nodded and pointed at Futakuchi, “He’s that guy.”
Futakuchi just yelled out a “HEY!”, knowing his friend wasn’t exactly wrong.
Niko just laughed, “He’s not that bad! He seems nice to me! Plus you never mentioned he was so handsome.”
Making a face of disgust Aone just shook his head muttering ‘It’s your funeral’ before heading back to his room.
The two hit it off, and despite his initial protests Aone is very happy for both of them.
Daishou Suguru:
It was after Mika dumped him, he had been incredibly distraught and had gone to a local park to let his feelings out.
Unfortunately, it had started raining and Daishou hadn’t exactly been in the right state of mind so he had forgotten to bring an umbrella.
Just as it had started to sprinkle he had gotten shielded from the rain,
Looking up he saw a really pretty girl with black hair and warm gray eyes looking at him with concern.
Convincing him it was dangerous to be out in this weather, the two made their way to the safety of a nearby café.
The two talked for hours and as it turns out the girl, Yuna as he had learned her name was, had been going through a similar situation.
Exchanging numbers the two continued to see each other and eventually started dating.
They had yet to meet each other’s families due to both of them being busy, so they decided to wait until after the Spring High Preliminary’s since Daishou would be free after them. (Due to scheduling conflicts Yuna was not able to go to the Match, but consoled her boyfriend after they lost)
Knocking on the door Yuna let him in and the two hung out in the living room until everyone had gotten there.
Once dinner had been cooked the family sat down at the table, all except one who Yuna had said was still at practice.
About 1/4 of the way through dinner they heard the front door open, in walking Yuna’s little brother.
“Oh! I should have asked earlier but you two know each other don’t you Yuuki?”
Daishou mentally screamed realizing his girlfriend’s younger brother just so happened to be the rookie libero he had targeted during the preliminary’s.
Stilling in his tracks Shibayama nervously shook his head, saying he had only gone up against him at the preliminary’s and that they hadn’t really met.
Seeing as Shibayama is a stand up guy, he didn’t say anything to his family. So all was actually going well until Mr. Shibayama said Daishou had looked familiar....
Yuna had not gone to the Match...but Mr. Shibayama and Mrs. Shibayama had...and they had now recognized Daishou.
Oh boy.
Numai Kazuma:
It was when Numai had dislocated his thumb.
After the match he had gone to the nurses office, where a very pretty girl helped him.
She introduced herself as Kaia, she was helping out with first aid since she was enrolled in a medical program at Nohebi.
When Numai heard ‘Nohebi’ he talked about how he was the Ace for the Boys Volleyball team.
Kaia then asked him questions and before the two knew it they were engaged in a conversation while she helped him with his injury.
The two bonded over volleyball, since Numai learned her little brother played, and he played as a wing spiker!
During the duration of his stay, he built up the courage to ask her for her number, which she of course agreed to.
Seeing as she had done as much as she could do for a dislocated thumb, she released him, opting to walk him back to his team (definitely nOt just to spend more time with him h a h a).
When they got to the club room, where the team had just finished discussing the game.
Numai opened the door a smidge before he paused, not noticing the team eagerly waiting behind the closed door.
Turning back to Kaia he took  deep breath before nervously asking the girl out sometime, which she also happily agreed to.
Little did he realize the girls reply had interested someone behind the semi-closed door, he hadn’t really cared what was going on until he recognized that voice.
When the team decided their ace had had enough fun, the quickly opened the door and pulled him inside, the whole team piling on top of him.
All except one...
“Kaia...what are you doing here..?” everyone turned to look at a now awake Kuguri, who had been napping after taking over for the poor ace.
Kaia then entered the room and gave her little brother a hug, congratulating him for stepping up.
Noticing the team’s weird stares, the eldest of the two siblings turned around before properly introducing herself.
“I’m Kaia Kuguri, Naoyasu’s older sister.”
The underclassmen went silent, since they didn’t want to seem disrespectful towards their ace, while the third years all started howling with laughter, Sakishima and Daishou being the worst offenders.
Kaia just shook her head before leaving her dumbstruck brother and a red and stuttering Numai behind to deal with his cackling teammates.
— haikyuu!! oneshot.
heartbeat in the court
introduction:  finally the big day of the Miyagi prefecture qualifying finals has arrived. Karasuno would have faced Shiratorizawa and you too had the opportunity to confront your stepbrother, Wakatoshi Ushijima.
this oneshot takes place during the Spring Interhigh Qualifiers final. you, despite being a girl, are accepted into the men's volleyball team thanks to your talent as a Middle Blocker. but what the rest of the team doesn't know is your bond with the captain of the opposing team and your hostility towards him, largely reciprocated. in all of this, with so much at stake, just when things seem to get out of hand, you'll find yourself relying on Nishinoya. Realizing that he has always been by your side.
⤿ pairing: nishinoya x reader, nishinoya x (y/n)
⤿ warnings: fluff, hints of divorce and neglect, sibling rivalry, hints of discrimination against women.
>a/n: hello everyone, initially, I had imagined this one-shot with an OC created by me, which pre-made would be Ann Takamaki from Persona 5.
still, since it would have been very restrictive for some people, I preferred not to specify the physical appearance and make it become a nishinoyaxreader, instead of a nishinoyaxoc.
obviously being Ushijima's half-sister, the surname is necessarily that of his father (Utsui), be patient about it çwç
Also in my head, the protagonist is about six inches taller than Nishinoya, but I have not specified anything about the height, so you are free to imagine her as you like!
I leave you to read, and as usual, I apologize for my english!
Tumblr media
Shivers ran through your arms. The game was still at the beginning, barely halfway through the first set, but the air on the field was heavy.
Not even the choirs praising the two teams could muffle the ball's snap against the floor when Ushijima hit it.
Even among the reserves, you could feel the heaviness of those blows. But your eyes couldn't leave the ball, focused on one goal.
You would have liked to enter the field immediately, to demonstrate your skills, and that you were able to stand up to the captain of the Shiratorizawa, but it was not yet time.
You didn't know if Coach Ukai understood your determination to stop Wakatoshi's dunk, especially given the difficulties the first-strings were having. Not that anyone could not blame him. The fact that you had entered the men's team - thanks also to your insistence - was in itself a miracle. Anatomically, both for physical strength and - in most cases - for height, women were weaker than men. But that hadn't been able to stop you.
After playing for a short time on the girls' team, who didn't seem to take volleyball as seriously as the men's, you had decided to put forward a proposal that for many had seemed absurd.
That was the only way you could prove to your father, Takashi Utsui, that you could have been at the same level as Wakatoshi. It had taken two weeks to convince Coach Ukai that you had nothing to envy to the rest of the team. Where your physical strength wasn't enough, you reach them in speed - the only other team member faster than you was Hinata - and if the height wasn't enough, you jumped higher.
Your wall might not be as stable as Asahi's or Tsukishima's. Still, you could read your opponents' intentions and readily respond to their attacks, slowing or deflecting them by using that power against them. That was your strength.
However, the Coach didn't know that you had trained all your life to block Shiratorizawa's captain dunks. Where for many, a left-handed opponent was a problem, you knew exactly how to stop him.
You had studied it for a long time and know how he played. You had learned to read him.
And now that you were so close to your target, being able to observe it so closely, without doing anything, was making you nervous.
This feeling was starting to become evident as you shifted your weight from foot to foot under Sugawara's inquiring gaze.
"Uh ... Are you all right?" the sound of his voice roused you.
You were so absorbed in the game that you didn't even hear him say your name.
"You look pretty sensitive today, are you okay?"
"Yes, I would just like to enter the field and help my teammates, that's all!" you lied, waving a hand in front of your face as if you wanted to brush off his worries.
"If you say so..." Koshi returned to observe the game shouting cheers to the team after giving you a last doubtful look.
You could barely hold back a sigh of relief.
You didn't tell anyone on the team about your family connection with Ushijima.
First of all, it didn't seem like there was anything to brag about, nor that it was relevant information for the team -you had already given all your observations regarding Wakatoshi's game to Kiyoko-. Also, no one had investigated it, mostly thanks to your surnames' diversity, and you were happy to gloss over the subject. The relationship between your two families was something you didn't like to talk about.
Takashi Utsui had divorced Ushijima's mother when he was still a child, thanks to an extramarital affair with a foreign partner, or your mother, who then became pregnant. At first, the story had covered up by keeping the pregnancy a secret until Utsui's first marriage could no longer handle both spouses' unhappiness.
So Takashi moved to America with your mother, but you knew that his heart had remained in Japan with his son. No matter how good you were, Utsui only saw Ushijima.
Despite their distance, he was always informed about his scholastic and sporting results to the point of having reports sent about him or cutting out sports articles that mentioned his name. He often called him secretly from his ex-wife, giving him friendly advice on his game or complimenting his victories.
He is so focused on Wakatoshi that he couldn't even see you.
No matter how many trophies you won or if you became the captain of your team, Ushijima always did something extra to win - even if not intentionally - your father's attention.
And things got worse when, for work reasons, the whole family was forced to return to Japan. In the same prefecture where Ushijima played.
So when you entered in the first year of high school, there was only one thing you wanted to prove to your father: you were worth as much as your stepbrother. At first, you believed you could prove that truth thanks to the women's team, but when you started training, you realized that it was not with them that you would reach that goal, and it was almost a coincidence when that idea had crossed your mind.
You accidentally overheard a call between your father and Ushijima one night while your brother told Utsui how that short little Karasuno guy had threatened him to win the final. That statement had gotten on Wakatoshi's nerves, admitting he couldn't stand unwarranted arrogance
. The thing had you on a rampage.
Wakatoshi was like that. He belittled and looked down on everyone. He had done it with you too on the rare occasions you had met in the past, his gaze seemed to judge you every time, and his indifference showed how little he thought of you.
So you decided that if the Karasuno men's team wanted to kick Ushijima's butt so badly, you would more than willingly help them and that this would be the perfect opportunity to prove to your father that you too were worthy of his attention.
But now that you found yourself in the showdown, with the Shiratorizawa continuing to accumulate points after points without your team being able to recover, it was starting to make you hold your breath.
You began to believe that, at that rate, there would be no opportunity for you to play.
The referee's whistle filled the gym, and suddenly there was an almost deathly silence.
Wakatoshi lifted the ball into the air for his next serve.
At that moment, a scream tore through the air "COME ON! BRING IT ON" Nishinoya must have screamed with all the air in his lungs because his voice's sure timbre made your knees tremble with its intensity. For the first time during the match, your eyes left Ushijima's statuesque figure to dwell on the small one of Yu.
But no matter how small in stature he was at that moment, his presence had conquered the entire field, obscuring even that of the captain of the Shiratorizawa. A smile involuntarily pursed your lips.
The slap of Wakatoshi's hand startled even the reserves as the ball crossed the field so fast that you could hardly follow its path.
On the stands, Shiratorizawa's cheering was ready to cheer on another point as the ball headed into the disputed part of the pitch, right in the middle between Daichi and Nishinoya.They both moved, ready to take it.
Next to you, Yamaguchi made a horrified squeak covering his eyes. "Oh, no! They will collide!"
Such a thought was understandable, neither player had called it, yet they both leaned towards the ball, ready to take it. You would have liked to look away not to see Daichi's figure colliding with Yu's.
Your heart was beating madly against your chest, yet a part of you knew that Nishinoya would succeed. You had learned to read determination in his gaze, and if there was one thing you knew, it was that no matter how impossible a ball seemed, Nishinoya would have intercepted it.
Your blocks, with him on the court, were even more effective. Your team play was close to perfect when it came to coordination: if you slowed down a ball, Nishinoya was right behind you, ready to catch it.
That's why you knew Yu would succeed this time. He would intercept that scary service.
It was a moment, Daichi withdrew, leaving space for Nishinoya to receive, and everyone held their breath in the gym when the number 4 dropped to his knees and stretched out his arms. As it hit his forearms, the ball slowed and rose for the rest of the team to catch it.
In the Karasuno camp, there was a sigh of relief and surprise before Sugawara, Hinata, and Yamaguchi shouted in chorus: "He got it!"
Yet another shiver ran down your back, but this time, it was an almost pleasant sensation as a wave of heat spread over your abdomen as your cries of joy joined those of the other reserves: "Good job Nishinoya-kun! I knew you could make it! " you didn't know if he heard you or have time to investigate Yu's curious blush on cheeks that Tanaka scored and sent the team wired.
Nishinoya ran to high-five Tanaka, while Sugawara almost thoughtlessly hugged you in enthusiasm.
"Hey! If anyone here has to be hugged by (y / n), it's me!" Nishinoya complained, pointing at number 2 with a homicidal air.
"Or me!" Tanaka joined, giving support to his companion.
Sugawara blushed, apologizing to all three. "Forgive me. I got carried away."
You laughed, finally relieved of the heaviness felt up to that moment, "Don’t worry Nishinoya, if you continue to play like this, there will be more hugs for you!" you teased him with a wink.
That promise left the number 4 speechless.
Maybe you broke him.
Nishinoya stared at you with blank eyes, entirely still.
You blinked a couple of times, wondering what to do when an almost feral scream rose from his lips "BRING IT ON! I WILL SHOW YOU! I WON'T MISS A BALL!" it looked like he was going to explode at any moment.
Sugawara lowered his shoulders, frowning. "Now I'm almost afraid for Shiratorizawa," he murmured, studying Yu inhale and exhale like fury, taking a new position on the field.
You lowered your head, "Forgive me, maybe I exaggerated ... but better this way, right?" you played down, giggling.
You knew that Nishinoya - as well as Tanaka - had a soft spot for practically... the entire female population of this earth. Still, you would never have imagined a similar reaction from him for a simple hug. Strangely though, it pleased you, and you found yourself smiling.
Shiratorizawa won the first set.
During the second, however, it seemed to rebalance. In the end, both the team seemed to struggle to keep up.
Shiratorizawa was deciding the pace of the game, and you didn't like it at all. It was as if they already knew they were going to win, and that belief was the same as your stepbrother, that blind arrogance in believing themselves the best.
You started eating your thumbnail to the point of almost bleeding as you glanced nervously at Coach Ukai in a silent request, but he seemed to ignore your need and impatience.
You had already begged to join the game after the last time-out.
"I know I can do it" were these the words you said to Ukai as he silently stared at you, with his head lowered, "I can stop Ushijima."
But it hadn't helped. It wasn't your time yet. You didn't know if Ukai would ever give you the chance to play during that game, but one thing was sure: the coach had read that assurance's in your eyes.
Then, with just a few points at the end of the set, it happened. The tactic for containing Ushijima had begun to work. Thanks to the three-way block, Nishinoya seemed to want to fulfill the promise you made him during the previous set, intercepting every ball that the block diverted towards him.
Shiratorizawa seemed less scary now.
Tsukishima certainly has exceptional timing, you thought as the team took a moment to congratulate each other, who knows if with him on the field I'll be able to get in.
Your hopes seemed to vanish when Tsukishima scored a point, making them win the second set with a block on a dunk from Ushijima.
Although you cheered along with the others, there was a part of you that kept thinking, 'I wish I were the one to hit that spot' or 'I should have been the first to block his attack'.
You shook your head, trying to get rid of those evil thoughts.
"Oi!" Nishinoya called you as the teams changed sides for the third set. "Why that worried face?" he asked, tilting his head with a cocky smile "look, it's too late to renege on your promise."
You jumped, taken by surprise, yet you were convinced that your smile had diverted the team's attention on something else. Still, it wasn't enough to confuse Yuu.
"Oh, it's nothing," you sketched an embarrassed smile when those envious thoughts crossed your head one more time "I would just like to enter the field too, that's all," you admitted knowing you couldn't hide anything from Yu "it's an important game ..." especially for me.
Nishinoya showed his best smile, vigorously slapping his open palm against your back. "I'm sure the coach will let you in before the end. The Nishinoya-Utsui pairing makes sparks!"
At those words, your cheeks flushed.
Perhaps also realizing what Yu had said or aware of your reaction, he winced, embarrassed, and redder than a tomato. His hand quickly moved away from your back as he tried to compose himself, assuming a casual air. "Here ... I meant that ..."
"Nishinoya !!" Hinata called him, already positioned in the field, "Hurry up!"
Number 4 jumped at the chance. "See you soon on the pitch then, show Shiratorizawa what you can do!" he encouraged her, running away to the second line.
You waved a hello absently, smiling gratefully.
When was the last time someone had trusted you so much?
The joy of winning the last set was brief.
Shiratorizawa retook control of the game, taking home the third set.
Even Nishinoya seemed to have gotten nervous, and apparently, it wasn't just the rivalry that arose between him and your stepbrother. Still, you also heard him muttering something through gritted teeth like "Damn Ushijima! You won't stop me from having a hug from (y / n)"
He must have taken it personally...
"Come on, Nishinoya!" you yelled from the bench as the ball passed into Shiratorizawa's pitch.
The game was tense.
You could feel the heart contort with every hit and dunk of the opposing team, and a sigh of relief came from the lips every time Nishinoya or Daichi retrieved a ball. You were on your nerves, and you weren't with them.
Keep calm, keep repeating yourself; your time will come.
When the referee whistled the end of the fourth set for Karasuno, your shoulders relaxed with a hand resting on your chest. "Thank goodness ..." you sighed in relief, almost wholly forgetting the dark thoughts that had clouded your team spirit.
You couldn't let self-centeredness make you like Ushijima.
You were different.
Also, some people believed in you despite everything, like Nishinoya.
The thought helped you better tolerate the idea of not entering the field to prove your worth to your father.
By now, you were in peace when it happened.
At the beginning of the last set, the decisive and most important one, Tsukishima, injured his hand.
When you saw the blood dripping into the space between his fingers and into his palm, you felt your stomach turn.
"Utsui!" Ukai's voice roused you like from a nightmare, making you jump.
"Yup!" you replied, ready and decisive, trying to shake off the feeling of having wanted to play so much that it caused that incident in Tsukishima's hand.
While Kei wrapped his injured hand around a towel, you approached, "Hey Tsukishima..."
With his usual indifferent expression, he turned, but you recognized that light in his eyes, the disappointment of not participating in such a crucial moment.
Swallows, you clench your hand into a fist "You were incredible," you admitted, smiling triumphantly. "I'll keep expectations high."
He did not seem impressed, instead looked away, turning away from you. "Don't ruin everything," but there was no bitterness in his voice.
"Just saying 'good luck' would have worked out anyway, you know?" you teased him as he started to walk away. "Move to come back, I can't wait to slam the victory in your face" you mocked him to ease the tension, but you knew that leaving at such a moment was a big wound in his pride.
The only thing you could do to make him feel better was to win that game.
Finally, on the pitch, you started to feel your heart beating against your eardrums. It was your moment. Right there, at that exact moment.
Daichi clapped his hands, rallying the team, "Come on! Focus!"
As you approached the rest of your teammates, you could hear a strange buzz in the stands. Probably many were questioning the coach's choice to have a woman play, also as a central, against a giant like Ushijima.
"Ehhhh? A woman?" Satori, on the other side of the net, stared at the field in your direction, following you with his eyes, before turning to the rest of the team "they don't think we'll hold back for this, do they?" Ushijima studied you in silence, while you seemed to be trying to take stock of the situation with the rest of the team. "Of course not." His voice, grave and low, caught the rest of his team's attention before returning behind the line.
"(y / n) don't be intimidated by Ushijima!" Tanaka assured you, "we managed to keep up with him until now, and we will continue to do so!" You turned your head, hardly hearing Ryunosuke's words as your gaze fixed on your stepbrother's massive figure across the field.
"Uhm... (y / n)?"
"Don't worry about me," your voice sliced through the air like a knife. "I've been preparing myself for this moment all my life."
Some of your teammates exchanged confused glances before nodding resolutely, thinking you were referring to the final, saying that it was the right spirit.
Before each taking their positions, Nishinoya reached out with a closed fist towards you. "What did I tell you?" he exclaimed satisfied, stiffening "let's show Shiratorizawa what we can do! I am right behind you (y / n). They won't beat us!"
You nodded, punching his fist in response.
No, you would not have lost for you. For Nishinoya's trust. For Tsukishima's hard work. For the team.
You soon found yourself face to face with Ushijima, right under the net.
He towered in front of you with an aura that you were sure would make anyone else tremble and flee. But not you.
You positioned yourself in front of him without batting an eye and fixed your gaze with him.
The rest of the team must have realized that something was wrong, too, because many of their eyes were now fixed on you.
"How long, Wakatoshi ..." you greeted him, lapidary, narrowing your eyelids.
"(y / n)" The captain of the Shiratorizawa didn't flinch, while the rest of your companions winced.
"Hey! Don't take all these confidences ..." Nishinoya grumbled, referring to the fact that Ushijima had just called you by your first name.
"Uh? Do you know each other?" Satori asked, pointing at you with his index finger.
Wakatoshi nodded, serious, "Yes, she is my stepsister."
A strange silence filled the field.
"STEPSISTER?!?!?!?!?!" the scream rose suddenly on both sides of the field, almost forcing the referee to recall the teams.
"W-what? Why didn't you ever tell us, huh?!" inquired Hinata, shocked, looking first at your back and then at Wakatoshi's face.
You didn't turn around, unable to leave that war of gazes with your opponent. "It wasn't relevant."
"It wasn't ..." Sugawara repeated softly.
"... relevant?" Daichi finished, frowning.
"It didn't matter," you repeated softly to Wakatoshi, while an arrogant smile formed on your lips, "because you are now my opponent, and I am your block to break down. Get ready to see your dunks fail, big brother" you mocked the last word vehemently without batting an eyelid when Ushijima smiled, menacingly.
"All this arrogance ... it gets on my nerves."
"... Even your sister is a monster ..." Satori murmured, recognizing in you at that moment, the same authoritative decision and confidence of his captain.
Asahi almost took a step back, intimidated. "Yes ... now I'm starting to see some similarities."
Nishinoya's eyes flashed with admiration, "Show him (y / n)!"
When the whistle came, you were ready.
Shiratorizawa's line flew over the net, and Daichi was there, catching it "Sugawara!"
Koshi lifted the hide as you, the winger, and Tanaka approached the net simultaneously.
I'll hit her. I'm going to smack her and score.
But the ball passed right over your fingers, straight at Rynosuke. His dunk touched Satori's guess block and was intercepted by their Liber ready to be lifted for a dunk by Ushijima.
This is the moment I've been waiting for!
An adrenaline rush ran through your entire body as you ran towards the balloon, getting ready to jump.
I annoyed him, you thought quickly, and his self-centeredness will make him believe he will wipe me out. He will not aim to overtake us but break through the wall of pure power, right on me.
Like an open book to you, Wakatoshi did what you predicted.
He charged the shot and struck, right on your hands.
It hurt.
More than you imagined.
You felt your fingers bend backward, your palms burn, and your arms give way. You couldn't compete with him in brute strength, but as he trained every day to power up his dunk, you had been studying a way to thwart it.
The position of your hands did the trick.
The ball's power worked in your favor, its trajectory following the angle of your fingers, bouncing back towards Ushijima before falling, amidst the astonishment of the entire gym, in the middle of the opponent's field.
When your feet hit the ground, the gym exploded with screams.
You were so happy that you almost didn't realize how red and sore your hands were. You didn't care.
When you turned to the rest of the team, you almost fell backward as they all ran in your direction to compliment or hug you.
Satori stared at you, his eyes still bulging. "Yes ... a monster..." he mumbled before falling silent on seeing Ushijima's expression "is-it was just a stroke of luck ..." he reassured him, but Wakatoshi didn't even listen to him.
Nishinoya was the last to walk away from you, gently grasping your wrists, before carefully studying your dark-faced hands.
When you noticed his expression, you tried to withdraw your hands from his grasp, sweet and firm, without succeeding. "Oh, don't worry, it will pass."
Yu remained with his eyes down on your wounds. "I know there is probably a reason and that this game is important to you ... you probably want to prove something to Ushijima, and that's okay, but ... don't get down like that," you blush, while Nishinoya lifted his face with a solemn and severe air, "I told you even before, right? I'm behind you, watching your back."
You swallow as Yu walked away, taking his place in the center of the field. You were so shocked by his resolve that you didn't notice his expression -all satisfied- as he settled into position, under Tanaka's grim gaze, who was muttering something between his teeth like 'and stop saying such cool things...'.
The followings points were a constant chase.
It did not matter who won the first point; the other team followed suit; neither of them decided to let go even for a moment.
It was clear that there was an open war between you and Ushijima. Wherever he crushed, you were there.
Your hands still hurt, and you knew that that kind of block was a gamble, especially now without the surprise effect, and the captain of the Shiratorizawa was now much more attentive to your moves.
But it doesn't matter, you thought, trying to block another one of his dunks with Sugawara and Tanaka, you just need to slow it down a bit.
The ball touched your fingers and slid past you, losing some of its speed.
"First touch!"
You didn't even turn around to check; you knew Nishinoya was there, ready to receive it.
It doesn't matter that I stop it completely..., you repeated to yourself with a smile and a light, confident soul,  because you are right behind me, aren't you Nishinoya?
"MINE!" Yu's voice came loudly behind you, and the ball didn't touch the floor.
When the action was over, you turned around, your forehead wet with sweat and your hair stuck to your cheeks despite having tried to keep it away from your face.
You were out of breath, but you didn't feel tired, although bridging the gap between you and the rest of the team took a lot of energy.
But when you met Nishinoya's proud gaze, nothing mattered anymore. Yu raised both hands in a high-five, "Nice save!"
"Nice reception."
However, the game had just entered its most intense phase, Ushijima began to get nervous, and the tension was accumulating point by point as well as fatigue.
At the end of the set, you were almost breathless. You wiped your face with the shirt's edge, resuming your position.
Generally, you didn't stay on the team very much because your physique had to endure the physical gap, consuming more energy. You always had to jump higher than you should have against a women's team, run faster to get the edge, and your stamina wasn't as infinite as Hinata's. You also began to feel the stress of having to replace Tsukishima and keep everyone's expectations high.
No, I can't give up.
You could feel the breath of Shiratorizawa on your neck, and when you looked around, after the last point of the opponents, you felt the floor fail under your feet.
No matter how well we played, it was as impossible to detach the Shiratorizawa.
You gritted your teeth, shaking your head, as Ushijima's face painted that self-righteous look you hated so much.
"No matter how hard you try, the result will always be the same," he stated in front of the net, observing from above your petite figure bent on his knees in fatigue, "We will win."
The grip of your fingers tightened on your knees as you barely restrained a curse.
It wasn't supposed to end like this, no, no!
"DON'T DARE TO LOOK DOWN!" Ukai's scream crossed the two fields like lightning.
You raised your head, observing him with wide eyes, and at that same moment, the gym doors opened, while Tsukishima ran on the edge again of the field under the astonished gaze of all of you.
You saw the coach give him the card with your number for the change, despite the bandaged hand, and stand on the bench waiting to enter the field.
You sighed in relief, thank goodness, he's okay then.
That probably would have been your last point and the last of the game if Shiratorizawa had scored, you couldn't lose, not now.
The serve was from Shiratorizawa, a float that Daichi managed to intercept, but the opponents were able to predict your attack, and it was once again the chance for Ushijima to score.
By the time your brain processed that information, the adrenaline was already circulating in your blood.
Your heart was beating against your ribs until it rumbled in your eardrums, you did not feel the fatigue in your legs as they sprinted towards the ball, predicting where the lifter would pass it Wakatoshi. "I WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO MAKE THIS POINT!" you shouted, throwing yourself with all the strength you had to reinforce Kageyama and Asahi's double block.
Focused on the ball, you did not notice the shiny spot on the floor, and when the toe landed on it, it slipped.
"(Y / N)!" someone shouted from the bench, but you ignored him, miraculously catching yourself with the other leg and throwing yourself into the air before it was too late.
It doesn't matter how ... but I have to slow down that ball..., you thought, gritting your teeth, trying in every way to give yourself as much elevation as possible with just one foot.
The pain was sharp, and for a moment, your vision blurred until it was completely dark.
The only thing you could see was the little lights shining behind your eyelids, the intense stab of pain radiating from the center of your face to your neck's base, and something warm dripping down your chin.
You had managed to reach the ball, but despite having recovered from the fall, the elevation you had given yourself with only one leg was not enough. The ball had hit you in the face as you were approaching the net in midair without succeeding to raise your hands, still busy trying to regain your balance.
You heard someone shout your name behind you, and you didn't know where the ball was or what was going on on the pitch.
There was just that twinge of pain at the base of your nose, but maybe that was what kept you conscious and clear enough to make you scream, "THE BALL!" before you hit the ground.
The last thing you perceived was the sound of heartfelt footsteps, and finally, the referee's whistle marked the point.
When you found the courage to open your eyes, the rest of your companions were around you, first of all, Nishinoya "(Y / N)! Are you okay?"
You closed your eyelids, grabbing your nose with one hand, before lifting your head to stop the blood from continuing to come out.
"Did we... did we score?" you whispered between your teeth, barely holding back an expression of pain.
The rest of the team stared at you as if you were mad.
"Yes," was Kageyama, who answered, pointing to the scoreboard.
"Thank goodness ..." you sighed in relief, before meeting Nishinoya's stern gaze.
"You should worry about your condition!" number 4 scolded her, bending over to better observe the wound while muttering, "I told you not to reduce yourself like this" "I slipped ..." you murmured, looking away as if it were an excuse. Kiyoko ran to bring you a towel from the bench while Nishinoya continued to stare at you, worried, "We will win for you too."
You smiled, nodding, before turning around. "I count on it."
"You should go and show yourself in the infirmary ..." Coach Ukai began after giving the okay to Tsukishima to enter your seat.
"NO!" you snapped, pointing your feet, all those present looked at you with wide eyes. "It will stop bleeding soon! And then ..." you turned around to observe the rest of the team from over your shoulder, "and then I can't leave them right now" you turned around, following the coach with eyes shining with pain and emotion. "Please!"
He looked away, sighing in resignation. "As soon as the match is over, run to the nurse without making a fuss, am I clear?"
Your face lit up as you nodded.
Fortunately, the blood stopped coming out a few minutes later, while Kiyoko patiently helped you clean the one encrusted on the skin, you stared with bated breath the rest of the game.
They were the last points.
And then it came.
Karasuno was missing only one point to go home winners. Only one.
The entire team rose into the air to crush Kageyama's riser.
At that moment, the air vibrated.
You couldn't take your eyes off your teammates as Hinata finally hit the ball on the second line. You held your breath.
Shiratorizawa's Libero shot for the dunk, but he was too slow, the ball touched his forearm and took the wrong trajectory going out of bounds.
You jumped to your feet, heart pounding, as Shiratorizawa's number 4 dashed over the baseline to retrieve it.
But the ball was too far. It flew over the linesman and fell to the ground.
For a long, unending, second no one in the gym spoke.
Time had stopped until the referee whistled the point for Karasuno. The decisive one.
We won...
And the cry from the stands rose so high that your eardrums were shaking, while the Karasuno team remained motionless, still incredulous.
Asahi, Daichi and Sugawara, were the first to move with tentative steps, looking for each other. They were hugging each other, letting out a scream that seemed to have remained in their hearts too long as they cried like little boys.
And after them, everyone followed.
Completely forgetting the promise made to the coach, you threw yourself on the field along with the other reserves, completely ignoring the sore nose and red face as warm tears had started running down your cheeks.
You must have looked awful, sweaty, aching, and in a vale of tears, but you didn't care.
None of that mattered now, as you screamed into the arms of your companions, still incredulous.
And amid those black uniforms, your arms instinctively sought the only orange stain.
Nishinoya fell to the ground as you clung to his neck, sinking your face against his chest as your tears wiped from his shirt.
"We won! We won!" you repeated ad nauseam before looking up at Yu.
Had he always been this good-looking? With that cheeky smile painted on his lips, the sweaty hair and skin reflecting the gym lights, those big hazel eyes so bright, and that cute blush that spread over the tip of his nose and cheeks when you were near him?
He wrapped his arms around your shoulders, laughing, completely ignoring the embarrassment of having you on top of him. "I didn't think you would keep your promise so soon," he admitted pausing to study your face.
Suddenly, you remembered the condition you were supposed to be in and again hid your face on his chest. "Don't look at me! I'm horrible right now!" you begged him, trying to get away, but Nishinoya's grip tightened, preventing it.
"You have never been more beautiful."
Your heart skipped a beat at those words.
You slowly looked up, and you could see in his big brown eyes that he wasn't lying, he couldn't, looking at you with so much admiration.
When you became aware of your actions again, your lips were already pressed against Nishinoya's.
His lips were soft and slightly salty from the sweat. There was a sweetish aftertaste that you would not have known how to identify, but that you liked to the point of pressing your mouth harder against his. Perhaps, you did it even a little out of desperation, hoping that that gesture would stimulate him to do anything.
Yu remained motionless, completely blown away. He was staring at you with wide eyes, peering at your face pressed against his trying to register what was happening.
Holding you close to him was the right stimulus to awaken him, finally bringing him back to reality.
His hands ran through your hair, trying to get you closer than you already were to him, and he closed his eyes, tasting the numbness of your lips against his.
It was a quick, hasty, clumsy kiss, but it was perfect that way.
"Damn ..." a voice above you suddenly made you remember where you were.
Tanaka towered above both of you as he stretched his knuckles, with the rest of the team behind him staring at you, embarrassed, amused, and even a little amazed.
"Um... we should line up... you know?" Sugawara interjected, uncertain, pointing to the back of the field. "As soon as you finished ..." he added with a more mischievous smile, winking at Nishinoya, who jumped up, red in the face, under the steely gaze of Tanaka.
"Why did you only get the girls?!" the shaved-haired boy cried in frustration as he dragged a still slowed Nishinoya with him, too busy throwing glances over his shoulder to focus on his friend's words.
You found yourself smiling dreamily, red in the face, as you followed your teammates along the bottom line, taking a seat next to Yu.
Number 4's hand clenched together with yours as he winked at you before bowing to the other team, "Always behind you, watching your back."
oc fashion boards: haruka mihara (insp)
Tumblr media
KEY FASHION COMPONENTS:
skirts and dresses - haruka feels most like herself in skirts and dresses rather than pants. she embraces the most extreme scale of femininity, dressing in overly cutesy/girly outfits. this is something she does to make herself stand out; at home, she struggles in the shadows of her siblings, so in public she strives to be unique. we only see her wear pants once onscreen, and those are her pajamas, in which she’s wearing soft cotton shorts.
accessories - while all of her clothes are expressive, haruka really finds a creative gateway in her accessories, even sometimes going so far as to make her own jewelry. often, her accessories relate to her own personal interests - such as video game controller hair clips for her love of gaming, or painting palette earrings for her artistic side. we also see her wear cat earrings and shoes in order to support her school.
oversized sweaters - although haruka enjoys a very cute and feminine sense of style, she does not like being reduced to her body. in order to have some aspect of control over how others perceive her, she wears oversized sweaters that hide her frame. this allows her to feel far more comfortable, hiding in the excess fabric. in addition, she has an anxious habit of grabbing her sleeves in her fists, something she is more easily able to do with longer sweater sleeves.
dinosaurs - as kei tsukishima’s best friend, haruka has picked up a love of dinosaurs from him over the years. the subtle injection of dinosaur-themed patterns or accessories symbolize their closeness as friends. in moments in the show where they’re particularly connected, we can see this. for example, in season two during the barbecue, she has on dinosaur earrings; when she’s on the phone with akiteru in season three, as well as when she watches his game against inarizaki in season four, she’s wearing a dinosaur-shaped necklace.
berets - the most crucial part of haruka’s closet is her berets. she is never seen without one, except when in her pajamas. though they don’t mean much symbolically, they are by far haruka’s favorite article of clothing. she has quite the collection, one that seems to grow every time we see her, as we never really see the same one twice. she even hand-stitches or embroiders patterns onto some of them, such as her cloud beret or her orange beret.
Note
are any of your soccor OCs in SFOS based off of canon characters? ive noticed quite a few similarities between Natsu and Shoyo’s teams
Well, sort of? I try to emulate a lot of the character tropes because I like the mix of personalities on Shouyou's team, but I didn't intentionally create any 1:1 equivalents. But, that being said, I see what you mean:
- Ariyoshi is definitely the Tanaka/Mad Dog/Yamamoto of Natsu's team. Scary dog privilege. Might actually bite you. - Hirao is perpetually nervous, so I guess she's a lot like Yamaguchi, but I just felt like there needed to be nervous newbies... she is me, i am Hirao, string bean baby, perpetually freaking out. - In terms of appearances, Kunitake is blonde & wears glasses in school like Tsukishima, but I don't really think they have similar roles or personalities in this fic. - When creating Natsu's captain, her main traits were: 1) thunder thighs and 2) yells a lot. I didn't really connect that to Daichi at first, but there's a bit of overlap there lol. - Aone Yui & Natsu are... I meant, they're not girl-versions of Takanobu & Shouyou, but their personalities play off of each other as siblings.
Are there more?? My brain is empty right now, I don't know where any of my writing comes from.
