Ship moments: comparison

Here is a comparison of all the main ships moments and how many are in manga, anime vs novels etc. Again, the moments are what any fan of the ship would consider a meaningful interaction, so of course we have something like "character A saving B and going full rage" here being compared to "character A sharing tea with character B", as I did not weight the different moments. Being that each ship is different, a tea sharing moment might be what is most loved about ship C, vs the angst of rage for ship D.

To do so, I made lists of all the moments so you can check which ones I considered.

The moments added are from these, and categorized as:

Manga (Manga)

Anime (if there are filler episodes or extra scenes not in the manga) (Bones)

OVAs (Bones)

Movies (Bones)

Novels (school briefs) (Novels)

Spin off manga (Team up mission up till volume 3) (Spin off)

As you can see, colors are the different manga+adaptation+extra.

Interestingly, Kirimina was the only ship that had no extra (anime or novels or other) moments, all the moments they had was in the manga. Following was Togachako, which had only manga, with a few added moments this last sixth season.

This is just for the manga (violet FF ships, pink FM ships, blue MM ships):

In the manga, Izuocha, Iidachako and Kamijirou are the top 3 F/M ships. The top 3 M/M ships by interaction are Bakudeku, Tododeku and Kiribaku which are also the top 3 ships on AO3 for the whole fandom.

Tsuchako was the top F/F ship, followed by Togachako.

Now, I wanted to see how much of these ships moments was due to the manga vs extra added material (from spin off to Bones added etc.).

And now, if we look at the percentages of non manga material:

On top we have Kacchako, with 67% of its ship moments (more than half) coming from non manga material (so extras and anime only scenes). Following we have Iidamomo, then Bakudeku, Kiribaku and Todobaku all above 60%.

As said before, the ship with no extra manga material was Kirimina, with 0%, following Togachako that only has 6%.

2. Komi can't communicate -i fell in love with anime on this one, like i watched it occasionally before that but KCC is perfection.Also helps that i'm also pretty socially awkward lol. i really wishe we'd get another season so we can see manbagi animated.

3.MHA! This is a very basic starter anime but the chisaki fight is a core memory for me alright? also spoilers but the newest episode ripped my heart out even tho i've read the manga lol. Im a multi shipper for this one, like i really like bkdk but also tddk is cute but izuocha is my first love and we're still going strong and then also tho tsuchako?? and kacchako?? but ig my favourite pairing is kamijirou (i still like shinkami and momojirou tho)

4. i would say spy x family, but it seems wrong putting it in fourth place its just so freaking good. let's just say this is the only anime that i want merch for desperately, i've read the manga way too many times lol. also franky and nightfall should get together. who said that?

5.Blue period-it's just really good tbh, and i related to it a lott, cuz all Yatora does is cry, paint, study and feel insecure lol.

Recently I saw a post that was like "grouping jiang cheng ships by how much they're about wei wuxian" so i'm gonna steal that concept and do "grouping ochako ships by how much they are about midoriya izuku"

Inviting comparisons to wwx and jc's relationship, it would probably have made more sense to do this with bakugou, but I'm 500 times more insane about Ochako so. Someone else will have to do that.

Ochako ships that are about midoriya:

Izuocha: midoriya is literally in this ship. He's right there. This is at least 50% about him by necessity.

Kacchako: The most popular shipname uses Midoriya's nickname for Bakugou as a portmanteau instead of his actual name. I think that tells you everything you need to know. This ship has always had a bit of "solving a love triangle by ignoring the axis" energy for me. And that's a compliment! I like that kind of stuff! You definitely can make kacchako not about midoriya, but you'd have to work for it.

Ochako ships that are not about midoriya:

Tsuchako: Girls! This ship is not about midoriya. in fact it's not about any men. If you're a man, get out.

Iidaocha: Yes, they both know Izuku and are friends with him but he's a background character in their dynamic, they would still be friends even if it weren't for him. This ship is about friends to lovers, mutual trust & competency, and the fun of contrasting personalities.

Minaocha: Protagonist halo gets a little in the way here. A lot of minaocha's canon interactions are mina teasing ochako about her crush on izuku, so he's kind of a plot device in this ship by necessity. But that's not really what the ship is about. Minaocha is about the 2023 barbie movie.

Schrodinger's izuku:

Togachako: narrative foils! Homoromantic stabbing! The classic 1872 gothic novella carmilla! This ship could be about Midoriya if you wanted it to. The charm he gave Uraraka is a major motif in their relationship. Toga starts out liking both izuku and ochako. From what i've seen it's pretty popular among bkdk fans to frame these two as a bkdk parralel and of course in canon they foil izuku & tenko as a hero-villain pair. But izuku is not integral to this ship, he doesn't have to be there.

Todochako: Unlike iidaocha, these two probably wouldn't have become such close friends in canon if they hadn't both been friends with izuku first, mostly because of the profound impact izuku's had on shouto's early character development. But it takes less effort to make it "not about midoriya" than something like kacchako so it goes in this category. Like iidaocha, this is really more about friends to lovers and contrasting personalities and being just, really cute, honestly.

My Top 10 MHA OT3′s

I feel like MHA is not certain if it wants to be a story about trinities or duos. Sometimes it feels like the narrative follows a long list of contrasting duos, all resembling our leads (BKDK, TSCHK, TDMM, KRMN, MRTM, KMJR, etc.) And sometimes, especially recently, it feels like the series is actually about a bunch of trinities, a la Naruto - the Three Musketeers, the Big 3, and more! So since I’ve spent plenty of time talking about my favorite duo ships, I figured I’d rank my OT3s. 

(I’m sure my #1 will be a big surprise “sarcasm”)

#10. TODOBAKUMOMO

So of course Todo/Momo are a ship of mine, and they’ve got great chemistry. But TD/BK’s chemistry is hard to deny, and they’re getting so developed lately, growing slowly into a rival ship to rival BKDK. And early on, Bakugou and Momo did have interesting potential. If these three ever hang out/work together as a trinity, I’ll rank it higher.

#9. THE LURKERS (Mt Lady, Kamui Woods & Edgeshot)

Our first grown-up Trinity hero team; continuing the Trinity theme the Big 3 started when they were introduced, we also saw the birth of the triad of some of the series’ most iconic pro heroes. They definitely had a hard time last arc though. Hope they all come out OK!  Also worth noting that they resemble our lead trinity - the Spider-manesque underdog (Deku/Kamui Woods), the cool mysterious one (Edge/Shoto) and the flashy famous blonde one (Kacchan/Mt Lady). 

#8. INACAMIESEIJI

Also continuing the School/Pros Trinity theme, we have the Big 3 of Shiketsu! (I know that’s Togacamie in this pic, but whatever). CamieSeiji of course have lots of argumentative chemistry; InaCamie have a few moments indicating there’s a connectiong between them, and Seiji takes enough time to fanboy over Inasa to complete the trio. Also in keeping with the tD/BK/DK parallels, as I put in an earlier post: Camie=Deku, Seku=Kacchan and Inasa=Shoto.

#7. ERASERMICLOUD

And finally in the category of Out-of-UA parallel trios, we have EraserMicCloud, the prequel trinity. Now Erasermic do echo BKDK by being the Broody and Energetic one,with the suggested hero name; though Aizawa is more like Shoto and Kumo like Deku in personality. Not sure which one I want to parallel which, though in either case Mic is Kacchan. Anyway let’s just hope Kumo’s fate doesn’t parallel Deku or Shoto’s...

#7. TODOIIMOMO

I know many fans feel TD/II/DK, but while those three have their great trinity bit together, I think the Momo route has more to go for it. Ii/Momo of course have their status as Class Reps and clearly care for one another, and TD/IIda have tons of feels surrounding the Stain arc and their ongoing friendship, so it all combines neatly. 

#6. MIRINEJITAMA

If it wasn’t for Yuyu I’d probably proclaim this one a definitive endgame OT3. I’m not sure who parallels who in the TD/BK/DK olympics, though my best guess is Tamak=Deku, Mirio=Kacchan and Hado=Shoto, becasue Tamaki and Deku are the shy awkward serious boys with the big crush on optimistic blonde Kacchan/Mirio, and Hado/Shoto are the socially weird pretty ones who join the childhood friends to flirt heavily with both. 

#5. BKDKJR

I’m sort of grouping in my head a number of Deku and Kacchan’s potential OT3s with the ladies of Class A here (honorary mentions here are BKDKMM, BKDKMN, & BKDKTSU), though my favorite of all those would be BKDKJIROU. Obviously BakuJirou is known enough as a ship - Kacchan inspiring her and saving her and all - and I have a real soft spot for DekuJirou despite them only interacting once, but it was a great one-time interaction. Definitely more of a crackship but I love it nonetheless.

#4. MMKMJR

One of class a’s most obvious OT3s. Obviously KamiJirou is a given - argumentative and lovable, and obviously IzuKatsu, respectively. And MomoJirou too have undeniable chemistry and make a great sister ship (paralleling TDBK). And I actually have a real soft spot for KamiMomo, mostly due to the light novels where they get to hang out and pseudo flirt/inspire each other a lot. So yep, definitely a winner of an OT3.

So obviously Toga/chako has been having lots of feels lately due to this recent arc; they connect so crazy there and have something interesting coming in future. Toga also said she likes Tsuyu, so both ends have Toga, and TsuChako are just getting cuter together by the day, so this one’s another winner. I again think TsuChako parallels BKDK, so I guess Toga is their Shoto. 

#2. BKDKOCHA

If Deku really must end up with Ochako, this is the option I will accept under those conditions. Kacchako has been rising on my favorite ships list (for no real reason, I just like them), so I’m definitely down with that corner. The original planned OT3 of the show! In the drafts, this trinity would have been the center of the story, a la Naruto, and probably would’ve been the OT3. But in the show we’ve got, we all know the One True OT3 is...

#1. TODOBAKUDEKU/TDBKDK

Yep, the core of the show. Big shock, it’s #1. 3 absolute slam dunk ships - BKDK the OTP, TDBK of the perfect chemistry and rom com love, and TDDK of the destined life changing inspiration. I’m not entirely sure how Shoto can work into the destined ‘win and save’ duo that is BKDK, but there’s so much affection between this OT3 - and they just click together so nicely - that I’ll bet the series is gonna work very hard to try.

Dream - TsuChako Week 2021

One night, after laying down and wrapping herself up in no less than three blankets, Asui Tsuyu finds herself floating up towards a beautiful starry sky. 

Her eyes are wide with wonder as constellations in foreign shapes drift past, a gasp escaping her throat as a comet soars overhead, its long tail glittering beautifully.

Without thinking, Tsuyu reaches out to catch it before it’s gone, awe and confusion battling for her attention as she finds she succeeded in grabbing a tiny flicker of light.

What...? This isn’t possible, she tells herself, is this because of a quirk? Am I hallucinating? 

Tsuyu considers pinching her arm but decides that it wouldn’t be much help against a quirk induced whatever-this-was.

I hope I’m not knocked out in the middle of a fight, she thinks worriedly, do the others need my help?

“Tsuyu! C’mon, you’re thinking too much!”

She jolts as she registers the voice, looking left and right for the source.

“Just enjoy it!”

Tsuyu finally turns around, coming face-to-face with one of her closest friends, Uraraka Ochako. The brunette looks perfectly at home floating on her back with her hands folded on her stomach and a bright smile on her lips.

“Ochako? What are you doing here, ribbit?” Tsuyu asks with a confused frown, her shoulders tense with concern.

Ochako just giggles, “What do you mean? I floated us up here!” She gestures widely to the pink-green galaxy they’re surrounded by, eyes twinkling with pride.

Tsuyu’s eyebrows raise as she tries to guess when exactly her friend’s quirk mutated, “But how? Why?” 

The other girl gracefully flips onto her stomach mid-air, head tilting to the side as a pensive expression settles on her face. It morphs into quiet determination as she lifts a gentle hand to push Tsuyu’s hair behind her ear.

“I wanted our first date to be special. I wanted to make you as happy as you make me,” Ochako admits quietly, her hand moving to cup the other teen’s face, “And I figured, what better place for a memorable date than the middle of an alien galaxy?”

Tsuyu’s eyes widen as her hands reflexively curl, crushing the small flicker she was holding into a shower of sparks.

Date?!

“But I…you…we don’t like each other like that!” Tsuyu stutters out, cheeks flushed.

Ochako’s expression turns thoughtful again as she brings her hand back, “Are you sure? You’re always so observant, but you’ve been kind of ignoring your feelings lately.”

Tsuyu flushes deeper, her eyebrows creasing in thought.

Do I have a crush on Ochako? Have I been ignoring it this whole time? She wonders, But why would I be avoiding it? 

Interpreting Tsuyu’s pinched expression as discomfort, Ochako clasps her hands and asks, “Just…try to think about it? Please? But not if it freaks you out, of course!”

“No, no, it doesn’t. I just want to figure this out, ribbit,” Tsuyu responds distractedly, her heart racing from both the realization and the adorable image in front of her.

Has Ochako always been this...cute? 

The thought has her blushing all over again.

Watching as Tsuyu’s face turns pink, Ochako grins and leans in, mischief written across her features.

“I’ll see you in class then, you have to go get ready. And don’t forget to ask!” 

“Ask wh-?” Tsuyu starts before being cut off by petal-soft lips on her cheek.

Her face burns impossibly hotter.

Ochako leans back and giggles into her hands, repeating her request, “Remember to ask!”

Tsuyu can only stare in disbelief as she feels herself being pulled back to Earth, air rushing past her and dulling her hearing until…

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.

“Urgghhhh,” Tsuyu groans as she shuts off her phone’s alarm, turning over onto her other side.

That was all a dream? She sighs, But it felt so real.

The lingering feeling of Ochako’s lips fills Tsuyu’s chest with butterflies, her arms hugging a pillow tight as she remembers it. 

Even if it was just a dream, she muses with a soft smile, it gave me a lot to think about...

Iida headcannon. (light shinkami & tsuchako mention)

in this senario, Shinsou is the hero course and has a dorm in the 1-A dormitories. don’t worry about specifics, it doesn’t matter.

Kaminaris dorm in next to Iidas in cannon, and i’ve heard a headcannon that Iida would lend hand in supervising the dorms, but in my version of that, i’d like to think he’d check up on everyone at cerfew. Now let’s say hypothetically, being with Kaminari helps Shinsou fall asleep. And Iida is aware that Shinsou has sleep issues to begin with.

So just imgaine, Iida checking in on Kaminaris dorm, at first going to tell Shinsou to get back to his dorm but stopping himself, smiling, and covering for them because of how much he cares about his classmates and wants them to enjoy eachothers company

Or, another couple, Urakura and Tsuyu falling asleep after studying in Tsu’s dorm and Iida gently putting them both in bed then covering for them by saying they where both in their respected rooms (when the wernt)

like come on,,,

soft Iida? HELL YES.

moral of this post is: Iida would have a soft spot for the couples in his grade sleeping in the same room and would cover for them.

Okay so this is an older one

Went into the wips during "spring break" of 2020

So essentially, when the "extended spring break" began and we were all stuck at home, my mom bought me this book of 300 writing prompts. I was planning on applying to a fanzine at that time and I needed a fanfic for my examples that actually matched the ship the zine was for, so I decided that during quarantine I would write all 300 prompts and do the first one for this fic

I'm sure you can tell how that all turned out, but in any case the writing prompt I chose for my first one was to basically write the pov of an object in the room I was in

So, I spun this prompt into a Tsuchako fic from the pov of the bracelet Uraraka is gifted by her parents as a younger child

I had ultra soriku and kh brainrot at the time, so the bracelet has a star charm on it, and it holds a certain symbolism. She has no obligation to, but should she choose, she can give it to someone that is an important person to her (platonic or romantic). She chooses first to gift it to Midoriya, seeing as he's special to her and she has a crush on him and all that, but that plan goes down the drain once she learns he's already dating somebody. As she learns to deal with this broken heart of hers, she grows closer to Tsuyu (whom she already has a crush on but has no idea). Eventually, she decides to give it to Tsuyu instead, but not as an afterthought. Rather it's an action born of this feeling she doesn't recognize when she thinks about Tsuyu (haha hetnorm sure do suck like that) and they’re such dear friends, so she gives it to Tsu because she's a dear friend she does not want to lose (of course, this doesn’t detract from the fact that Midoriya, Iida, the girls, etc are special to her. They are)

It's just like a mini slow burn of a bisexual disaster learning she has a crush on TWO green haired teens who happen to be her best friends and this special bracelet witnessing the whole thing

my favorite fic I read this week:

the only weed for him by rhorhodey (T, 5+1 todobaku chapters 7/7) – this fic made me laugh so hard I couldn’t breathe, multiple times. five attempts shouto makes to take care of bakugo (also known as: five times bakugo nearly dies very stupid, shouto-induced deaths) and one time shouto gets it right.

every maiden plays pretend by heartsinhay (T, tsuchako+bakudeku wip) – uraraka tries to confess to deku, but! she finds out he’s secretly the author of a popular reverse-harem shoujo manga…and his manga’s protagonist is fem!bakugo?! cute, funny fic of a clueless lesbian struggling with compulsory heterosexuality <3

hatsume’s inadvertent seduction of a human 3d printer by jajalala (T, hatsume/yaoyorozu chapters 7/7) – LOL, support course student hatsume mei announces her interest in yaoyorozu’s quirk by telling her she wants yaoyorozu’s body, and things snowball from there. this crackish fluff perfectly captures what I love about the hatsume/yaoyorozu ship.

scorch marks, scales, and scraping nails by immaplatypus (T, tenko+spinner+touya wip) – very interesting! tenko attends UA, and his class consists of a mishmash of villains (shie hassaikai), heroes (hawks, gunhead), and OCs. I really love tenko’s and spinner’s characterizations, and I’m excited to see where this goes 👀

hawks-sensei by gc4life (NR, genfic hawks+ensemble wip) – post-USJ, hawks is assigned to work at UA to improve security. I love seeing hawks interact with such a wide range of characters (especially uwabami and monoma!), and characterization is strong all across the board.

I have a confession to make, I ship ochako with pretty everyone (cept mineta a couple other people and adults cause ew) in UA. Aged up ochako and negire? You got it ochamina? Fuck yeah, tsuchako? And it’s not even with just women ochako I think could work with most of the cast. ochako is both a bamf and an adorable cinnamon roll at the same time and deserves more love (and character development get on that my dudes) honestly I think she has so much potential as a character and I hope y’all like her as much as I do.

Course my main pairing is ochamina so that’s what I’m likely going to be posting about but don’t be surprised if you see her with other characters. Like I feel like negire and ochako being best friends when ochako finally graduates. Shit like that just makes me happy because she is my favorite character and I love seeing her happy.

Having "SCREAMS" as a soulmark had always been difficult for Shinsou. It was hard enough for someone to talk to him due to his quirk, so he'd always known his soulmark would be awkward. But this? How do you even explain this? Ah, a haunted house for the festival. Of course it would be that way, where everyone he'd meet would scream -hopefully- and having a soulmark would pretty much be useless. Deep down, he kind of wanted the cute guy from class 1-A to be his soulmate.

Do people dislike Uraraka just because of ships? (Part 3/3)

I often see people saying "you only hate Uraraka because of ships!", not to me as I generally enjoy her, but to shippers. The thing is... non-Izuocha and non-Kacchako fans, non-bkdk, non-shippers in general do not have a good or high opinion on Uraraka. If you want to know how and why I would say such a thing, well...

I decided to check.

Of course Ochako would be extremely popular among her own ships, so what happens when we exclude Ochako-ships? How often is she added in gen (non-shippy) fics? How often is she added in non-rival ships?

A) First a quick check of all fics, excluding no ship: BNHA has 249049 fanfics. Ochako was tagged in 46679. That is 18.74%

For comparison, Deku is tagged in 51.52% of fics, Bakugou is tagged in 47.84% of fics, Todoroki is tagged in 28.27% of fics, Aizawa is tagged in 26.11% of fics. Because these are probably due to ships, let's check more.

We can see that there is a massive difference.

B) Gen ships: only fanfics that have friendship. I checked the top10 characters added and the top10 relationships. Then I checked the percentage of Ochako being tagged in all BNHA gen fics on AO3.

Gen fanfics tagged with Ochako (no ship excluded): 9316 over 50934

Above her we have Izuku (30499), Bakugou (20337), Aizawa (19119), Todoroki (13494), All Might (10362) and Class 1-A (10362).

Of course Deku is the MC in BNHA and he is extremely popular, so it is better to compare Ochako with other secondary characters instead of the MC. We see that her percentage of presence is comparable to the "Class 1-A" and All Might.

Interestingly the number is very similar to her percentage in the total fics.

If, to be sure, we exclude the main rival ships (kiribaku, bakudeku, tododeku, todobaku, shindeku) and the main Ochako ships (izuocha, kacchako), the numbers are of course smaller, as some people tag gen as well as FM or MM, in case their fic focuses on ships and friendship:

Gen fanfics tagged with Ochako (excluding her ships and rival): 6715 over 44386

The percentages for the others characters presence is similar ( Izuku (25380), Bakugou (15368), Aizawa (16786), Todoroki (10052), All Might (19114) and Class 1-A (8496) ), but this time Ochako is pushed down of one step, as Shinsou get 7403 fanfics.

Her numbers go down similarly to other characters.

C) Ship fics minus the rivals: To make sure to exclude the supposed "they hate her because she is in the way of their ships" I excluded the main Izuocha rival ships: Bakudeku, Tododeku, Shindeku. And then I did the same with the main Kacchako rival ships: Bakudeku, Todobaku, Kiribaku. Of course, Izuocha and Kacchako were also excluded.

In this case I simply took the whole of BNHA fics and just excluded these ships. What this means is the presence of Ochako in fanfics that are about other ships.

Ochako was tagged in 19016 fics over 157534. That is 12.07% of fics only.

This is quite less than when we look at her general presence in the whole of BNHA fics.

D) Ochako in rival ships fics

I also, for curiosity, checked the percentage of her presence in specific shippy fics that used rival ships, to see if people who liked those ships were more likely to add her or exclude her. These are the percentages of Ochako Uraraka being tagged as a character in the ship for:

- Bakudeku: 7037 works over 33987

- Kiribaku: 5289 over 28229

- Todobaku: 1180 over 9764

- Tododeku: 6449 over 22059

- Shindeku: 792 over 4000

(keep in mind that for all these ships I still excluded izuocha and kacchako, to make sure to exclude "breaking up"/"cheating" fics as much as I could)

As you can see, in Tododeku and Bakudeku fics her % of presence is actually higher than in the whole of BNHA fics (around 18% in that case). Keep in mind that these are fics with no Ochako main ships, but I did not exclude every Ochako ship (ex. Tsuchako or Togachako).

Now, let's put all our percentages together.

As you can see, rival ships fanfics actually had a higher percentage of Ochako Uraraka in them than non-ships or other ships. In particular, Tododeku was at first place, followed by Bakudeku fanfics. Then we have Kiribaku at 18% which is the same we have in all fanfics on AO3, and the same for just gen fanfics.

When we actually exclude rival ships, then the percentage of Ochako's presence decrease.

The lowest was actually for all the other non-Uraraka ships and non rival ships. In this case we had ships like Shinkami, Aizawa/Mic, friendship fics etc. and they only had a 12% of Ochako presence.

I think this concludes that, at least for what concerns AO3 and using tags as a proxy, Ochako Uraraka is not sidelined or hated by rival ships more than non-rival shippers.

Now, I was wondering: you know, maybe it is the same for all characters. Unless they are on ships that focus on them, we have them sidelined, 20% or less of presence. Let's check Bakugou and Todoroki.

E) Similar patterns for other characters?

They do follow a similar trend as Uraraka, but they actually have a higher presence in gen fics...

Uraraka has a higher presence in rival ships than she has in gen (non shippy) fics, while Bakugou and Todoroki have the opposite, which is why I would expect.

Some More Talk About Parallels: BKDK and the Narrative Frame

Warning: I've tagged all the ships I talk about in this post, but no one (aside from the obvious) is in focus.

So I've been thinking a lot about Character Parallels in My Hero Academia lately. This started when I made these really popular posts:

This started with me noticing first that Bakugou and Ochako seemed like parallel characters (not my original observation, lots have noticed). Then that each of the boys seemed to have a girl who acted like a female counterpart -

Deku=Tsuyu, Ochako=Bakugou, Momo=Todoroki, Mina=Kirishima, Jirou=Kaminari. And subsequently, TsuChako=BKDK; Minachako=Kiribaku, MinaJirou=KiriKami, etc.

All so good so far, but then I noticed that while Momo has a few moments with Ochako and Tsuyu, their dynamic doesn't really resemble Todoroki's relationship with the WonderDuo. Rather, the duo that Momo relates to who resemble Deku and Kacchan is actually Jirou and Kaminari, as I posted about yesterday:

Between Momo and Todoroki, I think the resemblance between MomoJirou and TodoBaku is actually striking too; the basic dynamic, the occasionally snippy friendship started at USJ, the way that the two duos Owned the second half of Season 4 (and the movie); more so than Momo/Ochako, MomoJirou parallels TodoBaku.

But the entire basis of the comparison I made was Bakugou and Ochako as counterparts. So I started pulling back and rethinking this. Maybe instead, the similarity is not just the Gender Counterpart, but that most of the supporting characters form into pairs (And occasionally trios) that resemble Deku/Kacchan.

Kaminari/Jirou - Kaminari plays Deku's role, Jirou Bakugou's.

Tsuyu/Ochako - Tsuyu plays Deku's role, Ochako Bakugou's.

Ochako/Iida - Between these two, Ochako becomes Deku's role, Iida Bakugou's.

Todoroki/Momo: AS I pointed out in another post, Todoroki plays Deku's role, Momo Bakugou's.

Kirishima/Mina: Kirishima as Deku, Mina as Bakugou; this one is pretty obvious.

Mirio/Tamaki; All Might/Endeavor, Erasermic, The First and Second OFA users, even Shindo/Tatami, and Bakugou's Parents Masaru and Mitsuki; multiple character duos throughout the series that parallel the mains. Obviously, the point of these parallels is to draw upon the large, overarching character duo that forms the heart of the show.

I am a little more fond of this setup for following the characters, since it's less gender based and more about the characters' personalities and overarching themes; I've already explained three of these (KMJR, TDMM and TSCHK) in detail, and the others are fairly self-evident.

However, that does present me with a final question, that I think many fans have been asking. Up until the Joint Training Arc, you could probably have made the argument that the basic parallel duos outlined here all follows a similar track to Deku and Kacchan's story.

Meeting and becoming foils/rivals (Deku and Kacchan's childhood, Todoroki and Momo in the entrance exam, Jirou and Kaminari at USJ, Kirishima and Mina in the backstory, and Uraraka and her foil being either Iida or Tsu in season 1)

The Deku analogue starts surpassing the Bakugou analogue (Todoroki to Momo in Season 2, Kaminari beats Jirou in the Sports Festival, Kirishima does better than Mina in the same arc)

The two become great teammates, though maybe grudgingly, for an arc (BKDK & TDMM=Final Exams, IICHK & KMJR=USJ, KRMN=Sports Fest, TSCHK=Training camp)

The Bakugou analogue confesses their insecurities to the Deku analogue (DVK2, Yaoyorozu Rising, Culture Fest arc, TSCHK=internship arc, IICHKO=Sports Fest prep room)

The Deku analogue helps reaffirm the Bakugou Analogue by confessing how much they admire them (same arcs for all but Ochako)

The duo cheer each other on more healthily in the Joint Training Arc (all of them except TSCHK)

During that time, of course, both duos interact pretty randomly with other characters. But earlier on, and starting in Chapter 217, BKDK themselves change their dynamic. As you all probably know, at the point we're at in Season 5, they pretty much added a third party member. Todoroki.

Ever since the Internship arc (in some ways, ever since the Sports Festival), Todoroki has been more than just Deku's friend and other rival. Todoroki has an equal relationship with both Deku and Kacchan, and you could make the case that Todoroki is just as much a part of the Wonder Duo dynamic as Deku or Kacchan.

They form something of a trinity. While Shoto isn't completely integrated into the OFA thing yet, he is so close to it that he might as well be.

And thus you get the conflict. Is MHA a story about duos - BKDK=esuqe character pairings that combine equal aspects, opposite traits, and complete each other to become great teams? Or is it actually about trios, TDBKDK=esque trinities that combine a third quality needed to succeed All Might?

This is where the question gets important to me. WE've always believed, I think ,in the simple narrative line presented by Deku and Kacchan. Win by saving, save to win. Two halves of All Might. Bring them together (and by extension, their analogue pairings) and you get your perfect hero team.

But what if Hori has actually shifted the narrative? What if Todoroki has actually been integrated into the Wonder duo narrative? Is there a third aspect of being the World's Greatest Hero that we're missing with just Deku and Kacchan as a hero duo? Since Hori is no longer using the Heroes Rising ending, what is the new one?

During the Winter Intern arc, Endeavor gave the Origin Trio three assignments: Rescue, Fighting, Evacuation. "Evacuation" is a strange title to symbolize the third category, but what if it does indicate a third aspect to heroism Shoto represents? And that integrating the three main All Might fanboys into his successors?

Shoto, who was raised to succeed him from birth and inspired by a video with his mom; Katsuki, who based his life around succeeding All Might and always winning; and Izuku, who did the same, based on his favorite video as well. And in that case, does the Momo/Kami/Jirou trinity parallel them, as I suggested?

Mind you, the "everyone is duos" concept is still just fine to me as an option. But I'm open to the idea that the story is all about trinities now. Tell me what you think.
