Happy birthday, @kneelbeforeyourdogbabylon! Here's the Firefly AU you never asked for!
Chapter 1: Centauri, Part One
Rating: M
TW/CW and tags: Inspired by Firefly (TV 2002), References to Firefly (TV 2002), Alternate Universe - Human, Alternate Universe - Space, Action/Adventure, Eventual Romance, Crowley Needs Love (Good Omens), Aziraphale is "just enough of a bastard to be worth knowing", They/Them Pronouns for Muriel (Good Omens), They/Them Pronouns for Beelzebub (Good Omens), Canon-typical violence, Slow Burn, Enemies to Lovers, Except they don't stay enemies for long, They speak Welsh instead of Mandarin, Don't ask me why, Misuse of Welsh
Summary: When the job doesn't pay, you do what you need to survive, even if it means taking on passengers. As if he didn't already have his hands full keeping the ship in the air and dodging his crew's constant trysts. It wouldn't be polite to toss all the passengers out the airlock, right? Maybe just a couple of 'em?
The boy is alright. And the Shepherd, well, Crowley's never been one for holy communion, but there's something about that fluffy hair and those stormy blue eyes that makes him want to kneel.
He might even get the chance — if they can make it past Legion and the reavers.
Chapter Excerpt:
He always felt better once they were in the sky, nothing but twinkling stars and black around them, even if it was arguably the time when the greatest number of things could go wrong. It was peaceful. Quiet. There was a certain sense of serenity.

Shout out to @brenna for betaing this on short notice!
Credit for the art concept to my very creative wife, @sexy-sheep (who also wishes Pepper a happy birthday and is grateful that I have an amazing beta for TSTL because it means she doesn't have to fuss about with commas).

(Gratuitous Jee since there wasn’t a third photo in that set.)
So, I posted elsewhere (Cold Open) the order I think the beginning of the episode will go. I am also assuming that these photos are in order (as I’ve seen others anssuming—although the hospital photos seem all over the place).
I don’t really think the Diaz parents, in the end, look angry here. They seem to calm down after they hear what Eddie has to say. They look surprised and concerned.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, let’s hope they take Christopher for the weekend, and the trio of photos above is Buck and Eddie waiting for Chris to come home (after he’s calmed down a bit), and then the Big Conversation (Full Circle). Remember what the synopsis says: “Christopher fights to trust his dad.”
This doesn’t sound like giving up. In the synopsis, they are ALL fighting to rise up again (like a phoenix from the ashes).
In the photos of Hen and the Buckley-Hans, they are all HAPPY—including Hen. They are all in different clothes than they were wearing at the hospital (Chim’s shirt IS new—at first I thought it wasn’t). They are all smiling. This feels like good news about Hen’s situation.
🔥🐦‍🔥🔥
It’s very confusing. But Athena has left the hospital and is On a Quest in the stills, so I suppose we can assume that Bobby is stable and awake. Otherwise, I don’t really think she’d leave. Hen looks happy. Eddie is up in the air, but I’m hopeful for the reasons given above.
OTOH, these photos may only get us 15 minutes into the episode, like last week. And we’ll get true resolution of the these two plots at the end (where these stills are the hopeful middle).
And the last 20 minutes will be Athena being kidnapped by the cartel or the hijackers. I hope Athena learned her lesson about being TSTL with Jeffrey Hudson.
🤷🏻‍♀️

Welcome to...TSTL!
Hello! This is Azzie or Table speaking (any prns), and I am dungeon master-ing a campaign! So I thought, why not make a blog? Because every time something happens I make a blog.
It's a very cool story (if I do say so myself) and it is set in my own made-up world called Draexeth.
This blog is mainly going to be used for archiving purposes, as in recording what happens in each session and storing them on here for easy access. However, I will probably also reblog funny things that remind me of characters.
Speaking of which! Here are our PCs for the campaign, and the tags they will be represented with on this blog:
#aklys ambitions - Aklys (F Aarakocra, Lawful Neutral, Warlock)
#carric the claric - Carric (M Wood Elf, Neutral Good, Cleric)
#kurn the silly dumb boy - Kurn (M Red Dragonborn, Chaotic Good, Barbarian)
#alastor thief time - Alastor (Aarakocra, Chaotic Neutral, Rogue)
#thereai the only good one - Thereai Iarvaris (F Wood Elf, Lawful Good, Druid)
#bones bones bones - Bones (F Skeleton human, Chaotic Neutral, Rogue)
#amber does murdering - Amber The Murderous (F Mountain Dwarf, True Neutral, Ranger)
I will be making separate posts for all of them soon, so dw about that! Here are some other general tags:
#dungeon master table - for any posts of me just yapping
#draexeth chronicles - for any posts that drop the lore of the world!
#dungeon memester - for any memes i make :3
#TSTL archive - for posts documenting what happens in each campaign
(more to be added!)
I ALSO HAVE TWO ASK BLOGS FOR MY NPCS!!
soup mush'roome - @soup-mushroome
forgor - @forgor-cleric-of-tetyja

Hi! I'm here to ask about teq quetzeve / myla metilio-kevas / literally anyone out of syTP-TC!
No pressure, but if you want to talk about any of it I'd love to hear it!
see sometimes i spontaneously remember when i get an ask like this that when i scream into the void (my tags) the void screams back (the people who read those tags) and i am so incredibly grateful that the void is filled with such nice people. AND SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO here is your formal introduction to Sytze Myla Metilio-Kevas, Director of Bands and Professor of Brass Performance at the Pavilic Academy of Infernocasting (PAoIC). For our purposes we'll be reffering to them by their nickname, "Mets," or "syz. Mets".
FUN FACTS: - they / he with neutral preferences - absolute ICON - Spouse of Teveres "Tev" Kevas-Metilio - Parent of Atzia Metilio - named their kid after a book character in the project (who was a hotel owner with strong connections to The Hand Of Rivers / Deus Torin / the water god responsible for both connecting and separating and give and take and all that) - plays french horn as their main instrument
- has aircasting under a TSTL cast chart (which basically means he's- out of the sets of gods- most connected to Tenebri, Solae, and Torin, and is more connected to the Tenebrietic side of things than the Caderian, which you'd think would be the same as having a connection to the god, but it's not, and that's a whole other conversation.) LORE: - was born in a backwater town called Kessa Varna (which was VERY far from its future as a beautiful center of glassblowing industry and was at the time just some traveling hub with a couple nice restaurants and nothing else.) - wasn't the most financially stable in their childhood
- his high school band director practically forced him to apply to an internship program for the Pavilic National Academies because they knew he could make it and Myla was super talented - surprise surprise, they get in, and travel across the country to go live in the capitol of the province Soleni- a giant city next to a river called Lucere- so he can go be cool and get their sytzetriae hours. - context: a sytzetriae/sytzeship is the type of degree someone has to have to be ordained as a Sytze. It's kind of like making a contract with a god to protect and help the people around you. In their case, they have what's called a T/A sytzetriae, or a Tenebrietic Artist Sytzetriae, which means they've sworn to make the world better through art. It also makes your casting more powerful, and gives you a cool set of scars on your dominant arm.
- anyway, while he's here, he meets Teveres "Tev" Kevas- second son of the Amari Kevas-Arizi- aka, son of the gold trading company owner and severe rich kid. except, he's really fucking nice, he knows the city, and they get on great. - queue; Tev lying to his mother (Soni Arizi-Kevas) about having a significant other because she keeps asking and he's tired of telling her no. - queue; Tev having to bring said unexistent significant other to a family gathering. - queue; "Myla, hey, short notice, I know, but do you want to go to this stupid party my mom's hosting down in Dia Torei?"
- so, now, you have Fancy Ass Choir Nerd and Iconic Future Band Director fake dating to go to this party down in rich people city at the Kevas Estate. this goes just perfectly. - that is, until, of course, Myla passes out because he's not feeling well and he is so far out of his element. - queue; tev being all 'saints and gods that weave the nations i might actually be falling for my best friend. if you can define love, anyway. love is strange. love is weird. love is-" - queue; tev's parent (Amari K-A) calling Myla a common swine and tev punching her for it.
- queue; Tev and Myla going back to PAoIC with half a semester left until they graduate, a shared distaste for the Kevas family, and way too much love for music. - this actually goes very well for them. They both get jobs at PAoIC, Myla starts helping with the marching band, they eventually make things official and work in separate enough places that it's not like it's awkward or anything. - child! Her name is Atzia Amari Metilio-Kevas. She'll eventually drop Kevas from her name, and hate her middle one with a passion, but that comes later. She's great and everything goes great for the next 19 ish years. - queue: War. - see, the States-Pavilic war wasn't new. it'd been rising for years, conflicts and tensions and all that, so when it finally boiled over it wasn't a shock. In 1977, however, things took a turn.
- Tev starts getting contacted by the government. not his, though. The United States one. and they give him an ultimatum; make it easy for them to kill Myla, or they kill both Myla and Atzia. - He makes the sacrifice. - It's well hidden. He's a greiving spouse, Atzia's a grieving child. - That is, until, of course, two of their students; one Mesa Kavitski and one Azalea "Az" Xirelle; manage to uncover the plot (mainly because Mesa could've been blamed for it otherwise.)
- Tev is now in jail. Atzia's life is now feeling very ruined. Tev rots away, consisting on memories and scattered visits from his very busy older brother who takes pity on him as his daughter wants nothing to do with him (which, fair, honestly) and Atzia joins the government because she sees it as the only way to prevent something like this from happening to anyone else ever. - Atzia goes on to live. Tev dies, and him and Myla make up in the afterlife. They get a house out in what's similar enough to the suburbs of Lucere, and live off of birdwatching and judging Ras'Kititche shows (which is the official name for the magic kind of marching band that's popular in Pavilia.)
- All in all, they leave a legacy. They were a kind soul who helped so many, and their work on the PAoIC band- whether that be it's culture, it's talent, or it's show caliber- was changed by Mets. They were a loving parent, spouse, teacher, and friend, and they were missed not just by those who knew them, but a nation that cares for the Martyrs it's saints declare. TLDR: Myla was a cool person who did music things. They died to foreign government blackmail, but their funeral was really fucking pretty, so that makes up for some of it. edit: tagging @houstondoyoucopy because i said i would :)

The Jasad Heir
Tumblr media
3.25/5 stars
Hmm.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
This is a strange one for me. On the surface, it ticks off most boxes. The prose, and its lack of anachronism (given the kind of medieval lifestyle of the cast)? Good! It’s very to my taste. The characterisation of the male lead, Arin? Fantastic. I remember being so pleasantly surprised when I first read his introduction, which I had been wary about, because most male leads have been horrifically portrayed for me. I admired his cool temperament, and his intelligence was well-depicted too. Also the slow-burn? The enemies to lovers trope? The trials? All boxes that I want ticked off.
So what went wrong?
The problem with this book, while mostly inoffensive, is that it’s very underwhelming. Usually, I start off every book feeling mild interest, and I tend to read a chapter or so, then take a short break before coming back, then rinse and repeat. If the book is good, about some way through I stop taking breaks and start reading it non-stop.
This “some way through” never happened with The Jasad Heir for me. In fact, it took me roughly a week to finish it (to be fair, it is a big book), and that was with me pushing through because I needed to move on to my other books.
Crooked Kingdom is about the same length, and I finished it in one day.
I don’t know what’s wrong with The Jasad Heir. Not exactly, anyway. It’s just lacking that little spark that makes my heart skip a beat. I think a large part of it is the pacing. You have a very intriguing premise and good writing and intriguing characterisation of your male lead, but the way the moving pieces are set in place is… lacking. The trials needed to be a bigger deal than they were, and not pushed to the ending of the book. The other competitors—especially the girl (can’t remember her name. Divya?? She had so much promise)—were wasted potential and just brushed to the side.
Moreover, I need to add that the main character was... a little TSTL at times, and her friends didn't really add anything to the story other than serve as a catalyst for her magic. So not even all the moving pieces were good.
The tension just wasn’t there. The singular peak in the story that I enjoyed was when Sylvia, the heroine, was jealous of Arin’s relationship with another girl—good, good, there’s tension—then she leaves and is stabbed by one of the rebels, and she almost dies. (Again, good—I actually feel the stakes, though I know she’s not going to die, of course, but this doesn’t seem like something she’s going to bounce back from easily.) Arin is frustrated and makes the choice to save her life rather than pursue the rebel, which was a very pivotal point for his character because he’d originally only kept Sylvia around to catch the rebels.
After that, the tension ebbed into nothing, and I just didn’t care anymore. Am I supposed to feel shocked at the reveal of one of the rebels' identity? They were just someone Sylvia mentioned fleetingly from the past; I didn’t even remember their name until I searched it up as a keyword in the ebook, and was like, oh. Yeah, she mentioned this person one time or something.
This book is a debut, and it definitely feels like one. It could do with several rounds of editing and a restructuring of the storyline to raise the stakes and up the tension. I also didn’t feel much for the romance, which, if I looked at it clinically, I should have. I don’t know why. I really don’t. When they had their first kiss, I was just like, mm'kay. It goes to show a story is more than specific jigsaw pieces I like, because if they misalign, the complete picture is nothing but wasted potential.
But! Some credit should be given where credit is due. I liked how Arin's reveal to be a somewhat decent person was more digestible than, say, Rhysand's portrayal, where SJM practically shoved down my throat what a great, woooooonderful ruler he was. I won't go further than that, because the ACoTAR series is a special nightmare of its own that I don't wish to touch upon here.
That said, I will read The Jasad Heir's sequel when it comes out because the premise we've been left with is very interesting. Let's hope it hits better then.

When it comes to Kuchiki Byakuya, Renji is learning, the truth is always more dangerous than rumor.
Byakuya/Renji | explicit | 8k | oneshot | complete
Layered beneath the iron tang of Byakuya’s blood where Renji has broken skin, beneath the sweat, beneath the salt and the geraniums, always the geraniums, Renji can smell it: the telltale spring wind of Byakuya’s power, always threatening to rip free from its carefully-tended confines, never distant enough to forget, never close enough to touch.  The scent was so faint to Renji’s untrained nose the first time he stood near enough to Byakuya to catch it—that day at the academy, when Renji first glimpsed power, when Byakuya looked back at where Renji stood—only for a moment; an awful, meaningless moment—and seemed not to see anything at all.

Badge of Honor - Texas Heroes series by Susan Stoker
Tumblr media
Justice for Mackenzie, 5 stars
Whoa, that escalated quickly, and I couldn’t stop my tears. The ending of this is soul-wrenching, and the characters raw emotions come through so beautifully, if painfully. There is an HEA, and what happened to get them there, only made it more magnificent
Justice for Mickie, 4 stars
These was a wonderful couple, but the stress of knowing what was going to happen to make it all fall apart, loomed over the entire story. When it did happen, I felt our heroine was slightly TSTL, but she really should’ve known better. Her caring though, that was her motivator, so I could forgive her 😊
Justice for Corrie, 4 stars
I loved so much about this story, but the stress of waiting for the other shoe to drop was crazy! Quint and Corrie had a connection from the start, and things developed so organically with them, I couldn’t help but cheer for them. The bad guys though, those bad guys were always looming, and when they struck, so awful. Everyone, who mattered, made it through though, and that was the important thing 😊
Justice for Laine, 5 stars
These two had an instant connection, and didn’t waste any time acting on it! The drama didn’t come from anything other than circumstances, and only brought them closer together

I Thee Dead: The Wedded Bliss Series by Christine Lawrence About I Thee Dead I Thee Dead: The Wedded Bliss Series Cozy Mystery 1st in Series Setting - Ohio Publisher ‏ : ‎ Moonie Press (August 22, 2024) Print length ‏ : ‎ 234 pages Digital ASIN ‏ : ‎ B0DCT9K46K Murder, false arrests, her business on the brink... But if anyone's ready for the unexpected, it's a wedding planner. After being dumped by her fiancé, let go from her job and dealing with the passing of her beloved aunt, Leah has picked up the pieces and returned to Ashford, Ohio to take over her family’s wedding planning business. Quickly she learns the business is not doing well and could close in a few months. She jumps in with both feet and focuses on an upcoming wedding for a local wealthy socialite which could be their saving grace. Everything seems to be falling into place until the night of the rehearsal dinner, when someone ends up dead and Leah’s best friend is the number one suspect. With the help of her friends, a handsome local detective, and a sexy private investigator, will Leah be able to catch the killer and clear her best friend’s name before they strike again or will there be an unhappily ever after? Dollycas's Thoughts  The Wedded Bliss is a family-owned wedding planning business that tries to provide each bride with "a wonderful and memorable service for the most important day of her life". Leah Jordan now runs the business started by her mother and her aunt in 1982 taking over after the passing of her aunt. Leah had just lost her job and her fiancé was now her ex-fiancé so nothing was keeping her from coming home to Ashford to take over a business she knew like the back of her hand. She never expected to learn The Wedded Bliss was in trouble and could be closing without an influx of money. Enter bride-to-be Janie Coleman, a rich daddy's girl with an unlimited budget. Her vision includes "glitz, glitter, and crystals" and Leah is determined to give her everything she wants followed by a bill that should get The Wedded Bliss back on the right track. Then at the rehearsal dinner, Leah finds a very important person dead and somehow Leah's best friend and part of the team at The Wedded Bliss lands in jail, held as the prime suspect. That doesn't sit well with Leah, she knows her friend had nothing to do with the murder. She brings together some old friends and new ones to apprehend the killer and prove her friend's innocence, hopefully before anyone else ends up dead. _____ Leah Jordan is an interesting protagonist. She is still dealing with her Aunt Sissy's death while trying to fill her aunt's shoes. She brought her friend Chelsea into the business to handle the finances and her friend Meg as a technology expert to establish a social media presence for The Wedded Bliss. Sally Sweeney has been the office manager for years. Closing in on 65 she is a motherly type who keeps everyone in line and the business running smoothly. Caleb Hamilton is one of the wedding party, but he has another reason for being in Ashford. We also meet Meg's brother Luke, a detective on the police force. All these characters were well crafted while leaving the room to grow as the series continues. I hope we get more of Leah's backstory soon. Bride-to-be Janie Coleman was a delight and so excited to get married. Her groom didn't score any points with me. Janie was her father's princess but he wore his wealth on his sleeve and expected people to fall in line. We meet several other characters throughout the story, residents of Ashford, and people questioned during the investigation. The murder investigation was very entertaining. Leah and Caleb went to great lengths and unusual places trying to find the killer. They uncovered some intriguing information and more people that may have had cause to want the victim dead. But Leah took some foolish risks. Her klutziness put her in a dangerous position and into TSTL territory many amateur sleuths find themselves in. I want to note that there was some repetition of sentences and the plot needed tightening in places but understandable this being the author's first book. I enjoyed the wedding planner theme and that the author struck a nice balance of romance and mystery. She also includes some wedding tips following the story. As someone who had three of her children get married in the last few months I can tell you the tips are spot-on. I Thee Dead has given the The Wedded Bliss Series a bright start. Leah and her friends are fun and I want to get to know them better. Ms. Lawrence has also laid the footing for a romantic triangle that I already find myself invested in its outcome. Christine Lawrence is an author to watch. I am excited about the next book in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC. Newsletter: Author Carla Swafford - TSTL Heroes
In my last newsletter, I talked about Too Stupid To Live (TSTL) heroines, I questioned, why weren’t there heroes like that? But there are. The hero version plays ultra macho alpha. You can find him in many types of romances. He can be a caveman, a sci-fi barbarian, a criminal, or a billionaire. He believes he can do no wrong. He often shows up in dark romances pushing a woman around and forcing…
