The Narrator was not expecting visitors so suddenly. Especially not in the comfort of his own game. He's a little scared, but he won't ever admit that (especially not to his Stanley). But nonetheless, once he knows that both Shadow and Kevan aren't threats (to his oh-so precious game), he'll simmer down.
