I wrote this old theory back in August 2020 after Redux came out. At the time I was collecting my thoughts of what was being shown to us and coming to some conclusions on what might be foreshadowing for future episodes.

It’s 2am so this might not be coherent but I keep thinking about the real world implications of the Sanders Sides. Like, Joan on the phone call at the end of “Can Lying Be Good” made it seem like this is a thing that Thomas tends to do often and that his friends are aware of. However, what I’m wondering is:

What would Thomas’s friends see if they were in the room for a Sanders Sides video?

Would it look like Thomas talking to himself and doing various voices? We see in “Selfishness vs Selflessness” that when he goes into the Mind Palace it’s just him sitting on the couch with his eyes closed. So all signs would seem to indicate the sides aren’t visible to people, and are unable to interact with the real world.

But there’s conflicting evidence. In the most recent episode, there’s a part where Patton gets smacked by Logan’s text pop-up and hits the blinds behind him. Thomas seems really weirdly worried about the state of the blinds, worried that Patton may have damaged them. But Patton is imaginary, so how would he have damaged anything in the real world?

Then at the end of “Putting Others First” we see Patton and Janus talking to each other in another room while Thomas is talking to his friends Lee and Mary Lee. We’ve also seen multiple occasions of the sides doing things and discussing things without Thomas knowing about it. How could it be possible for Thomas to not know about these things if it’s just him standing in the living room talking to himself?

So from this information, I propose that the sides maybe started as imaginary and noncorporeal, but have become more real over the course of these videos. More and more often the sides keep secrets from Thomas, or mess with his sense of reality against his will, like with Remus. It’s also become more common to see Thomas in the same frame as one of the other sides, such as with Logan’s part of the song in “Learning New Things About Ourselves” (I know this is because the team is better at editing, but it could still be relevant). Even the gross “stretchy arm thing” could be a part of this. With the sides becoming more a part of the physical world, they can interact with each other more, but they’re still able to bend the rules in unnatural and unsettling ways. It’s like an uncanny valley thing for Thomas.

TL:DR - I think that maybe at this point, the character Thomas believes in these characters and knows them so well, that they’ve actually started to exist. Which, he wouldn’t actually realize had happened, until maybe one of his friends walks in on one of their little board meetings and sees multiple copies of Thomas only for him to say “you can see them too ??”

I feel like Janus would be very active on r/amitheasshole subreddit. He would defintley be brutally blunt and get mad at all the assholes who don't have common sense yet also make very weird posts about how he annoys all the sides and everyone is so confused.

Imagine scrolling through the subreddit and seeing, "am i the asshole? I impersonated my ex-husband to try and get sad gay man to learn how to lie while his angry emo friend thought I was sus"

Janus consistently being in partial shadows is my favourite recurring visual, I adore the symbolism and mood it creates for him 🖤💛🐍

He truly carries his dark side with him, I wonder if it will change one day? For now, I’m glad it keeps happening in every single episode he’s in lol

DEAR FANDERS

I am aware we are all happy about our beloved Logan "Logic" Sanders not birthday and how happy he looks after he got his birthday wish turned into reality! Hurray for that!

However, i'm not here to talk about that! rewatching the series we have this line in "Can lying be good?" Minute 21:27

We know Logan embodies Thomas's knowledge so here he is saying he is Thomas's greatest weapon and defense, that what he represents is what will never hurt him and that's funny because representing knowledge is exactly what got him hurt in "putting others first" aka "SvS redux"

Logan was called upon Patton to provide information that could've prevented Thomas getting hurt if he had lisented, but they didn't Thomas's damage was mental, and Logan's? Emotional, he was so angered that he was called only to be ignored he didn't even want to hear anything from anyone, especially from Patton he simply provided what he had to say and left, hurt.

Logan whole life revolves about what he knows, about what he can provide and about what keeps him going. He believed knowledge was a defense and a weapon, yet he never considered it could be a double edged weapon. If the one thing he represents, the one thing that kept him safe and the thing that could never hurt him did just that, What does that leave Logan? That answer is yours to tell.

If i had to realize this and be sad so do all of you :).
