"I dunno if there is a heavier one," Simba chuckled, as he set his own box down. "It's mostly just clothes, I think."
Sarabi wasn't moving much in. After all, JEFF had a fully furnished house and most of the stuff at the Lyons Manor was historical anyway and would stay with the house. Which was--kind of sad, when Simba thought about it. And he never had before. Sarabi had lived most of her adult life in the house, but very little of it was really hers. Mostly the kitchen stuff. Her bed sheets. And knick knacks.
He didn't really stay to contemplate this room and what it meant now that his mama was moving into it and this house. Just enough to think about how strange it was, how odd it felt. Then, he grinned at Aquata. "I'll race you for the heaviest."
And then, without waiting for her proper response, he dashed out of the bedroom and took the stairs several at a time on the way down, nearly eating shit at the bottom as he over-extended and his bad knee went out on him. He caught himself on the banister with a yelp and a laugh.

MARCH 2ND, 2024
A POLITICAL RENDEZVOUS at THE CLOISTERS
A New Yorkian get-together, political auction, and farewell to winter.
pol·i·tics /ˈpäləˌtiks/ noun. The governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict among individuals hoping to achieve power.
On the afternoon of March 2nd, a casual event celebrates the weather finally putting the cutting cold to rest — with a 60 degree breeze and the sun even peaking through the clouds.
The Cloisters, located at Fort Tryon Park in Washington Heights, welcome New Yorkers for an afternoon of schmoozing with great food and even better wine. The event connects those seeking connections — be it business, personal, or political matters alike.
Some are here for the food, others for the booze, some for the opportunity to speak to current and future American leaders, or to try to influence the pendulum just a touch. Best not forget however, that such leaders are not only the ones of the Senate or the White House — a whole lot of politics happens in the underground, too.
Less than 10 months away from the 2024 elections, an auction takes place to raise funds for the parties in the run. Guests may offer items for auction and do the bidding, too — all proceeds directed to where their hearts desire. The race starts here.
OOC INFO
PART ONE.
IC, the event takes place on the afternoon of MARCH 2ND (Saturday). OOC, it starts March 1st, and the end date will be determined soon.
Members aren’t required to pause non-event threads during this period, BUT ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO PRIORITIZE THEM for fun, flowing interactions. While members can still respond to threads started previous to the event, they cannot start new threads outside of the event until it is wrapped.
If you choose to keep pre-event threads going, we ask that those are kept to a minimum as to not delay or confuse timelines and events. During this period, you should be expected to have more event threads on dash, than regular ones.
WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO PLOT with your fellow players what your characters will be up to during the event, as well as any plots and/or conflicts that may happen. For heavy conflicts, please do make sure to message the main about it first. <3
As always, should there be any questions or need of assistance with any plots, please feel free to contact the admins and we’ll be happy to help you!
CHALLENGE
OUTFIT CHALLENGE: Show us what your character’s outfit will be! Be as detailed as you’d like, and feel free to get creative. [ You will be awarded 100 points for completing this ] Dress code is business casual. No need for suits, tuxedos, or long dresses this time around, though characters may still want to put their best foot forward, especially if they're treating the date as a platform for their own personal goals. Likewise, your character can ditch the 'business' altogether if they're only there for a fun time.
OPEN STARTER: Write an open starter! [ You will be awarded 100 points for completing this ]
RESPOND TO AN OPEN STARTER: Respond to an open starter! [ You will be awarded 300 points for completing this ]
WRITE A MULTIPLE-CHARACTER THREAD: Write a thread where three or more characters are interacting together at once. [ Each character involved will be awarded 200 points for completing this ]
Important! Challenges are NOT mandatory, but all points you accumulate are going to your balance, which you can then use to 'purchase' you perks and advantages.
AUCTION & AUCTION ITEMS
The auction will start once Part 2 is posted. Until then:
Join the fun and submit an item that your character is offering, where any proceeds will be donated to the party of their choosing!
We encourage you to get inspired by who your characters is and what would line up with them. For example, if your character is an artist, you can auction a painting by them. If they are famous, you may offer some sort of signed item. And if you think those patterns wouldn't fit, then we also encourage you to be as creative as you wish — have them auction a personal item, a date/hangout with them, a product or experience. If you're not sure what to offer, but want to participate, feel free to message the main page and the admins will help with suggestions.
All characters who offer up an item for auction will be awarded 300 points. If you have multiple characters and you submit multiple items, you'll be awarded 300 points for each item submitted. However, you can only submit one item per character you play.
To offer an auction item on behalf of your character, please SUBMIT to the main:
CHARACTER NAME is auctioning a ITEM NAME HERE. Proceeds will be donated to the REPUBLICAN PARTY / DEMOCRATIC PARTY (please choose the one that aligns with your character!). Any supporting images? (In case it's a specific item, please include a photo of such.)
For example:
PABLO PICASSO is auctioning an ORIGINAL PAINTING. Proceeds will be donated to the DEMOCRATIC PARTY.
Admin note:
Burnies! This event isn't just any event — it's our three year anniversary event! March 2nd marks three years since WB opened, and we're so so honored and happy to have all of you with us; your mastery with writing and character-building wows us every day. But what stands out to us most is your kindness and your friendship, offered to members old and new. Whether you've been here for three years, three months, or three days — all members are equally as appreciated and loved, and we're so lucky to have all of you be part of our wb fam. Happy 3 years, burnies! We adore you! <3

A teacher in Payne County left school property in handcuffs on Thursday for allegedly being under the influence of alcohol.
The Perkins Police Department said school officials started having suspicions of Kimberly Coates' behavior in the afternoon. Coates is a third-grade teacher at Perkins-Tryon Intermediate School.
Police said the superintendent of the Perkins-Tryon Public School District asked the school resource officer to make Coates take a breathalyzer test. She was then arrested and taken off the property.
"He determined that she was under the influence of alcohol, and she blew into a PBT and confirmed that she did have alcohol in her system," said Perkins Police Sgt. Spencer Gedon. "The school got on it fast. As soon as there was a concern about that teacher, they went into action and did what they needed to do, and they were doing everything they could to make sure everyone was safe at the school."
The superintendent's office sent a statement about the issue, saying the district is cooperating with law enforcement as they continue the investigation into the issue. They also said the district's No. 1 priority is to provide a safe learning environment for students.
When police arrived around 3 p.m., they concluded that Coates had been drinking wine on her way to work Thursday morning. The breathalyzer test reported she was three times over the legal limit of alcohol consumption.
They also found a recently-used cup that smelled of alcohol in her bag inside her classroom.
Police said Coates could face charges for public intoxication. They said the incident is still under investigation.

Portland state university and PCC sylvania have hella brutalist architecture ! And love joy fountain is one of the places the jackass guys did “urban kayaking”. The South Park blocks that the campus surrounds have a farmers market on the weekends.
The Saturday market on the waterfront on Naito Parkway is super mid. Really underwhelming.
There’s a stripclub called the Acropolis off 99e and Tacoma that has really good steaks. There’s a lot of strikes among Portland strippers tho and idk where they land.
There’s a lesbian bar called the sports bra?
Baby ketten klub has karaoke. There’s private rooms but also just one big karaoke bar in the middle. They have this blended frozen cocktail that’s like $6 or smth.
Also rocky butte has a rlly pretty view of the mountains. There’s this weird dome-shaped concrete church down the road from it. Idk if it’s brutalist but it’s fascinating.
There’s also a viet store on 82nd and Burnside Hong Phat. There’s Shun Fat further down 82nd idk what their vibe is tho.
Third Eye is the only Black-owned bookstore in Portland. Def check it out on SE Division. Powell’s books can suck my dick and balls (derogatory)
Mt tabor is beautiful and involves a lot of walking depending on where you park. Worth it tho. My favorite view of the city ever. It’s also an inactive volcano :)
If you really like hiking you can wander around tryon creek state park. It’s next to PCC sylvania and Lewis and Clark College. There’s also forest park but forest park is So Huge. Tryon is def more manageable on a budgeted timeline.
Laurelhurst park off stark st is also really pretty!
There’s a rad food truck owned by queer sex workers at a new pod called little America that’s also off stark street
this is all v cool! appreciate the lovely writeup <3
also the sports bra is dedicated to women's sport omg this is literally laser focused to me. it's an official thorns viewing location too i might catch that away game with fans!
#did you guys know i have never eaten a steak...#like i am non vegetarian but i came to beef late in life and steak didn't seem v appetising as like... just a big piece of meat to me#food///#portland trip blogging#nice to me!#anon

Places in New York City that don't look like they're in NYC (and aren't in Central Park*)
Forest Hills Gardens, Queens
This lovely NYC neighborhood was modeled after an English village back when it was first built in 1910, offering a little piece of the UK in Queens, with quaint Tudor-style houses and a town center with a train station. Read more about it here.
Where: 71st Ave, Forest Hills, NY
The Met Cloisters, Washington Heights
If you didn’t know about The Cloisters before, you might not ever believe that a medieval castle was in the middle of New York City. But it is! The Cloisters is a branch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art that is devoted to European art history. It was designed and constructed taking elements from many different medieval cloisters, which are covered pathways in a church or monastery that connect to form an open square in the center. Find out more here.
Where: 99 Margaret Corbin Drive
Hours: Thursday-Tuesday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Closed Wednesdays
Purchase tickets on their website here.
Villa Charlotte Bronte, The Bronx
Italy or the Bronx? The beautiful “Villa Charlotte Bronte” apartments look straight out of Europe. They were built in 1926 and sit along the Palisades, overlooking the Hudson River, in the Spuyten Duyvil neighborhood of The Bronx. The design was actually based on an Italian villa, which definitely makes sense, and includes balconies as well as lush gardens!
Where: 2501 Palisade Ave, The Bronx
Fort Tryon Park, Inwood
These massive stone arches looks straight out of another era…and that’s because they are! Built between 1901 and 1905, the “Billings Arcade” is some of the last remains of the Tryon Hall mansion, built by wealthy Chicago industrialist Cornelius K. G. Billings. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. purchased the $2 million estate in 1917, only for it to burn down a few years later. Read more about the history from the Fort Tryon Park Trust.
Makes sense that #2 on our list is right next door!
Where: Riverside Dr. To Broadway (arches are near down toward the Billings Lawn, this website has good detailed directions)
Hours: Open daily, 6 a.m. – 1 a.m.
Greenacre Park, Midtown
This hidden little park in Midtown East is only 1/7 of an acre, but it definitely packs a punch. It holds a 25-foot waterfall that is not only a sight for sore eyes in the middle of Manhattan, and will also distract from the noise of the busy streets. It was built in 1971 by the Greenacre Foundation from a design by Hideo Sasaki.
Where: 217 E 51st St.
Hours: Open daily, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. *Reopens for the season Monday, April 3*
Bonus: Here’s our list of other stunning secret gardens hidden in NYC
Andrew Carnegie Mansion, Upper East Side
The Andrew Carnegie Mansion is a historical spot now home to the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. The mansion was originally completed in 1902 and reached landmark status in 1974, though it has undergone much change over the years. The grounds of the mansion, and now museum, feature an expansive garden and cafe for visitors to enjoy as well as a little opulent oasis in the middle of Manhattan.
Where: 2 E. 91st Street
Hours: Thursday–Monday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Morgan Library, Murray Hill
The Morgan Library feels like a trip to a library from Harry Potter or old world Europe. The historical venue was built as a private library between 1902 and 1906 for financier Pierpont Morgan. He began collecting manuscripts and other historical materials as early as 1890, and now they line the walls of the museum. You can find some of the country’s rarest music manuscripts, early children’s books, Americana, early printed books and more there. Purchase tickets here.
Where: 225 Madison Ave
Hours: Varies, see website for more info
“Little Paris,” Nolita/SoHo
NYC’s own “Little Paris” is the work of one group of French business owners determined to showcase NYC’s own enclave of French culture on Centre Street in Nolita/SoHo (between Broome & Grand St.). Along Centre St. you can find French café and bakery Maman, wine bar La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels, and art and home decor shop Clic. To complete the Parisian vibe is the old police headquarters located across the street from Coucou French Classes, whose architecture was inspired by Paris’s famous Hotel de Ville (City Hall) with its Beaux Arts style. Read more about it here.
Where: Centre Street between Broome & Grand St.https://www.tiktok.com/embed/v2/7107213381651795246
Van Cortlandt House, The Bronx
The Van Cortlandt House is the oldest surviving building in The Bronx, and was built by Frederick Van Cortlandt (1699 – 1749) in 1748. The Van Cortlandts were a prominent merchant family who owned a plantation on the property. Generations of the family lived there for 140 years, and in 1887 it was sold to the City of New York and made into public park land (Van Cortlandt Park itself it also the third largest park in NYC and has lots of unique hiking trails and vantage points!). Before it was a museum it had many random, unique uses like a temporary police precinct and a living space for ranch hands that cared for a herd of buffalo on the property.
Where: 6036 Broadway, Van Cortlandt Park
Hours: Varies, see website for more info
Stone Street, Financial District
Stone Street is one of the rare cobblestone streets in NYC, that gives more of an old school European feel to the starkly modern city buildings around it. According to Untapped Cities, the street was one of the first to be paved with cobblestones (in 1658) in the Nieuw Amsterdam colony, which is where it got its name. Today, no cars are allowed through and in the warm weather because of outdoor seating, it’s one of the few NYC locations where drinking is actually allowed in the streets.
Where: From Whitehall St. to Broad St., between Marketfield St. and Bridge St.
Hours: Open 24 hours
Ford Foundation Garden, Midtown
Tucked all the way at the end of 42nd Street (between 2nd Ave. and the United Nations Plaza), the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice is a true hidden treasure of New York City. With sunlight streaming in on multiple sides, the 160-foot tall atrium holds 39 species of plants. There is also a reflecting pool, and a sensory garden with plant life you are encouraged to touch and smell. Read more here.
Where: 320 E. 43rd St.
Hours: Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.https://www.instagram.com/reel/ChcXIbcAbpA/embed/?cr=1&v=14&wp=540&rd=https%3A%2F%2Fsecretnyc.co&rp=%2Fextraordinary-places-you-wont-believe-are-in-new-york-city%2F#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A4699.899999999907%2C%22ls%22%3A3474.899999999907%2C%22le%22%3A3748.600000000093%7D
Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, Queens
If you’re looking to be surrounded by nature instead of the concrete jungle, the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge is the place for you. On over 9,155 serene acres you can hike, go bird-watching, explore turtle nesting and admire the wide variety of wildflowers, moths and butterflies.
Where: Cross Bay Blvd near Broad Channel, Queens
Hours: Open daily, 6a.m. – 9p.m.
Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Prospect Heights
This lush oasis in the heart of Brooklyn will make you feel like you’ve been completely transported to another city. During the cherry blossom bloom in the spring, it will surely feel like a trip to Japan, but year-round it provides a natural haven for New Yorkers with varying blooms all over its very walkable grounds. Purchase tickets on their website here.
Where: 455 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11225
Hours: Varies, see website for more info
But of course, Check out Central Park and the other parks, and I definitely don't just mean the parts where everyone goes!

EOY book ask: 2, 3, and 4!
The ask is here!
2. did you reread anything? What?
- I reread Ender’s Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon and Shadow Puppets, all by Orson Scott Card. I was *super* into these books back in 2013 and I wanted to see if they held up- a lot does and a lot does not lol.
3. What were your top 5 books of the year?
- in no particular order :
How To Sell A Haunted House by Grady Hendrix,
The Burning God by R. F. Kuang,
The Other by Thomas Tryon,
Anno Dracula by Kim Newman, and
Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe
4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
- I’ve gotten really into Terry Pratchett this year! In particular his Witches books but I’ve been branching out now that I’ve wrapped those up. He’s so uniquely good at delivering devastating lines embedded within uplifting sensible messages and I love it.
Thank you so much for the ask!
#seriously tysm for the ask!!#unsure how formatting will looks bc of being on mobile#we shall see I guess lol
