It's a time-honoured tradition- every time Sam comes across Izzy (and Ed) in their travels, he asks Izzy to marry him. And every time, Izzy turns him down.
At this point, Sam is asking more for the sake of it than any belief Izzy will ever say yes, a remnant of childhood dedication touched with 30 years of heartbreak and regret- though even now, a small part of him still holds out hope. Sam's promises have only got more extravagant over the years, from a job as his first mate, to a captaincy, a fleet at his command, a whole fucking island if that's what Izzy wants- but he knows it isn't though, not really. If Izzy was ever going to agree to marry him, to leave his life and go with Sam, it wouldn't be for anything Sam could offer him. Izzy never did care for flashy shows of wealth, for a ship or to be captain. The only thing that ever mattered to him was loyalty given, and loyalty shown in return.
It all comes to a head after Stede left and came back, after Izzy lost a toe, lost his leg. Sam hasn't seen him since before things with Ed started to really slide off the rails, before stress permanently set into the lines of Izzy’s face. So, when he sees a dishevelled man with a hoof for a leg in a no-name port, he doesn't even consider the idea that he might know him. It's only when he turns towards him, and Sam catches a glance at those oh too familiar tattoos, he realises this is Izzy, his Izzy, that stands before him.
Knowing Izzy's discomfort with pity, he doesn't treat him any differently than he would in years gone by, positioning himself in Izzy's line of sight before approaching and sweeping him up into a bone crushing hug.
“Israel-goddamn-Hands!” he exclaims, as Izzy grumbles back a begrudging “Samuel-fucking-Bellamy”, a tradition almost as old as their friendship itself. Izzy might not hug him back, but he can’t keep the corner of his mouth from twitching, just for a second.
(If Sam holds Izzy a little tighter and a little longer than usual, well. That's his business)
By the time Sam lets go, most of the crew has appeared in the town square, drawn in by the commotion. They may have given Izzy his leg and welcomed him as one of them, but still there’s an underlying tension, with nobody quite ready to set aside everything that happened before the Kraken. Seeing him cosying up to an unknown man sets everyone on edge, unsure whether to come to their first mate’s aid, or to assume that they've been betrayed once again.
When Ed sees that the yelling was Sam, his hand goes tense where it's held in Stede's. He knows the routine, has seen it more times than he can count, but as he watches them part he realises that this is the first time in a long time he's unsure of what Izzy's response will be.
Knowing that something’s different, knowing that Izzy's feeling vulnerable already, Sam doesn't go for the same flashy proposal he’s been giving for years. He doesn't promise Izzy the world, he doesn't cause a scene (or, any more of a scene than he already has, anyway). He looks at the fractured man in front of him, takes his face in his hands, and says the exact same thing to him he said when they were little more than boys. “Israel, I have to ask you. I know what you'll say, but I have to try. Come with me. Marry me and sail away with me. I'll keep you safe”
And Izzy… hesitates. He glances over at Ed, at Stede, and says to Sam “...We’re staying in port for a week. Ask me again then”
That's the moment Sam knows there is something deeply, horribly, wrong. He's not just looking at an Izzy who got seriously injured in a fight and is struggling to cope, this is something so much bigger than that- and that Ed has something to do with it. Izzy wouldn't even be considering leaving if he didn't. Whether it was negligence or something more sinister, Sam doesn't yet know, but he intends to find out.
#i feel like the little paragraph about the crew is real clunky and out of place but i wanted some kind of establishment of where those#dynamics are at. its important that the crew is something for izzy to consider in his decision; but also that their relationship isnt so#solid he would stay for them alone; yknow?#im sorta aiming for a s2e5 era but like. early in those themes. he cant be all sorted yet i need him to be struggling#anyway this is part of a much larger scenario in my head that im never ever doing anything with but i wrote THIS bit in a daze in like. jun#and i got thinking about it again and i think?? it holds its own as a 'hey think about THIS' snippet. idk you decide#youre welcome to interpret this as solo bellhands but in my head it Has morphed into sam/izzy/ed/stede#because i cant not put edizzy in things any more. izzy has two hands#i also think the comedy potential of one of your boyfriends HATING your other boyfriend is gold. 10/10 dynamic#stede is mostly along for the ride in this but also i think they need him#aaaaand. the sam/ed bracket i think can only be closed in exceptional circumstances. i think they 'hate' each other too much#...which is WHY someones getting kidnapped!!! yay#anyway its all irrelevant because ill never write it out. i can do silly chill things but thatll require work#nyxtalks#ofmd#our flag means death#izzy hands#israel hands#sam bellamy#bellhands#i wanna also say. the general concept of repeated sam proposals has been floating around my head forever#it used to be a more silly thing like i referenced at the start but. s2 gave me angsty feelings i guess#i cant not have izzy have feelings for ed right now which inherently adds layers to Any bellhands scenarios i think.#but yeah. its a Classic Bellhands vibe for me. sam seeing izzy at sea or on shore and asking him to marry him (again)#i like to do this with jackie too. i think i just want that man to be obnoxiously desired#(theres also layers of my personal hornigold era lore built into this but i hope it holds up without u knowing it. tldr. sam lost izzy by#being an idiot n fumbling the bag. thats what matters. izzy went with ed and sams been trying to fix it ever since)#i probably should have readmore'd this but i didnt think it was Quite long enough. or had a good break point. sorry <3

Happy Halloween everyone!
#peanuts#snoopy#art#linus van pelt#the great pumpkin#30#since it is halloween i have decided to confront two of my greatest fears: not using my usual fluffy pixel brush and drawing linus#specifically drawing his weird transparent hair that i have struggled to draw my entire life#his hair being fully lineart without the brown colouring in it just looked wayyyy too weird so i filled it in a bit#i think i accidentally gave him the most terrifying face as possible as well#but that is also just on theme for halloween if you really think about it#i was trying to preserve the little curves around his eyes that you see in the original character design#but i fear here he just looks like he's wearing some sort of horrible flesh goggles#one thing i do really like about this piece is the colour layering on the pumpkin patch for depth#like damn these two really are in a pumpkin patch in the middle of nowhere with nothing else for miles around#i wanna start drawing more of the other characters in these as well so i'm currently trying out different ways to draw them all#while still maintaining a resemblance to the original#so far i love drawing lucy and peppermint patty the most. the lines just jump out of my pen for those two <3

Look at these stickers my brain is literally so huge. God. I love them so much.
I hadn't tried to do a sticker sheet at home before because I knew it would be difficult, and I was right! Getting the cut lines to line up with the print was super hard and there were many failed attempts, but it was so worth it I'm so happy with them!!!
This sticker sheet is for my patrons this month ^^
#like seriously I wasted like 10 entire sheets#normally when I do stickers I get to arrange them on a 'print and cut' sheet#which basically has these black marks in the corners that the machine can scan so it can cut based off of where those marks were#so it gets to line up muuuch easier#but with this I didnt want to have just like 2 sticker sheets a page... I wanted to have 4 for an 8.5x11 piece of paper?#cause of obvious reasons I feel#cause the print and cut takes an inch all around#I'm not sure it would be replicable either tbh? like if I were to design another sheet I would have to waste a bunch of papers again#cause for some reason the individual cut lines werent like... it wasnt like it was just entirely offset or entirely scaled 1:1#it was like some parts had to scoot up some spots had to scoot over some down whatever#so I think I would have to print cut and test again#but. also I did all that and realized. I could have been testing this on normal pieces of paper... I didnt have to use sticker paper#its fine! just makes me feel less bad about trying to do this again in the future#the sticker paper isnt that expensive this wasnt terrible#anyways. might do more in the future! I only have one other idea right now for a sticker sheet bt I wanna do it eventually#not like I wont ever have other ideas. obviously.#I just generally try to only make stuff that i'd actually wanna have so i'm not trying to make a ton of designs or whatever#this is actually also why i'm often sort of... late? on the patreon designs#not late like i send them out as soon as payments get processed for that month the design was for#but ideally id be making them ahead of time enough that people could sign up or sign off if theyre interested or not...#but I just dont wanna make a design that feels procedural... I CAN but I wanna make things that are creative and worth paying for!#so. I've got big opinions on dream sequences in writing. Which is mostly that they really shouldn't be there like 90% of the time because they grind the narrative to a halt, but I think they CAN have value. It's just that they tend to be executed in a way that's kind of pointless.
It's mostly that a lot of writers have the sequences be literal 1:1 depictions of the character's anxieties or feelings, or otherwise the absolute most on the nose symbolism possible. And it's not like dreams are NEVER like that, but why bother stopping the narrative to include a full sequence that essentially just repeats information the reader already knows?
If it's established that Character A is scared that Character B will get murdered by Jeff the Killer, and then A has an entire dream sequence of B getting Jeff the Killed and A wakes up sweating like 'Noooooooooo I do not want that to happen noooooo' it's jsut like. Yeah I knew that already?
#I think (at least with realistic fiction) a solid way to do a dream sequence is to fully take advantage of what a dream really is#(ie the brain processing memories and anxieties) to tell you things about a characters psyche that would not otherwise explicitly#come up in the text#Like my dreams could tell you a lot about things that are important to me/things that motivate me/things that scare me#They're often set in significant places from my lifetime and a lot of the time it sort of has 'themes' that play out in absurd dream-logic#scenarios but have an underlying coherency (ie me either trying and failing to acquire something of value or me attempting#to flee from some sort of existential threat beyond my control)#Using that sort of model to construct a dream sequence while also tailoring it to be relevant to their specific plotline (rather than#just like a general info dump) can provide information about the character without exposition. Tie in their character arc to wider plot#elements. Set up/emphasize motifs/patterns/themes. Etc#(AM IN THE PROCESS OF REVISING A DREAM SEQUENCE FOR THE 10 BILLIONTH TIME AND TRYING TO JUSTIFY TO MYSELF THAT IT HAS A POINT)

the absolutely Vivid reality based chronological dream i had last night. man
#i got a job at like... an automobile warehouse or something?#we had to change a large trucks tires...#and i was sent to get some more from across the block or whatever#and its more complicated than that - there were conversations and interactions with people etc#and i was trying to find it but it was all like... in this corridor shopping mall?#the signs were western themed and listed items that you could get in that store#though i think it was all free?#anyway at some point it opened into a restaurant and i had a friend there who was carrying a plate for people who left prematurely#so i of course started shoveling it into my mouth - free food! but their manager caught us#and i had to be all 'hey i work around here im just lookin for tires and no one was gonna eat this anyway'#it was like... a rice/mango/cream thing...? strange because i dont like mangoes!#long story short i had to go back for the tires bc i wound up forgetting them. something about a dog....#i was too late in getting the tires so i had to go sort rubber bolts instead :/ at least the warehouse was cool#absolutely unprompted#but it was very. linear. and it felt very real. like it was genuinely a place and a job that could exist#like i remember what the outside loading area looked like. the packed restaurant. the corridor. the warehouse. the lockers. the hallway#IF I HAD A BETTER MEMORY I STG I COULD MAP IT OUT#god i love my dreams. they're always plot based and im rarely myself <3

replaying dragon age inquisition is just an exercise in “the rebel mages would not fucking do that”
#da#my posts#specifically the hostile ones hanging out in the hinterlands for no good reason.#at least they gave the crazy hostile templars a motivation. a really weak one but still. At least they have a goal.#‘kill at mages. don’t gaf about anyone else’ ok. fine.#‘kill everyone you see for some reason. we need to steal their belongings I guess????’ insane. what the hell.#the could have at least done some blood magic about it. it would have been a boring repeat of da2 themes but at least there would be themes?#it’s just so STUPID. especially coming off of a fresh da2 playthrough.#like there’s some dumb stuff in da2 to give you an excuse to fight both mages and templars as generic npcs don’t get me wrong.#but not this much. and unlike da2 you and your companions comment on it as if it makes any sort of sense lol#also I hate that they decided that the chantry explosion killed a bunch of people (which is not supported at all by either the environments#or dialogue of da2 btw. the game is mainly concerned about anders murdering elthina not randos lol)#but that will come in later.#anyway. every note I find in the game from the mages is so insane. just found the area where the templars burned down a house with mages#locked inside. but because both sides have to be bad for dai plot reasons#the mages killed the peasants that lived in the house for damn reason lmao. AFTER robbing them on the road earlier.#insane choices from the writing team on this one.#what were you trying to SAYYYY#like I’m ok with the mages being a bit brutal. that happens in war. but there’s like. reasons? usually?#like as much as orsino turning himself into a flesh beast is insane and weird both-sides-ism plot device.#at least they tried to give him a reason (even if it didn’t make sense in the context of hawke and co absolutely destroying the templars he#was so convinced were going to kill them all)#the hinterlands mages genuinely have no reason to attack random passersby.#ESPECIALLY SINCE IM PLAYING A MAGE.#like?????? hello I am one of you. how the hell do you even know I’m not one of the rebels.#sorry anyway I’m upsetti spaghetti.

Id like just joined tumblr and the one person I followed sometimes reblogged posts about some weird game where you dated tentacle freaks in victorian London. It turned out I have much worse taste than rubbery but I've stuck about in one form or another since. I only just got back hard into the main game recently

I have reoccurring dreams and the longest running theme is#Legit I have SO MANY instances of encountering a demon of some sort and trying to flirt with them and being entirely iced out#Devil rejection is a running theme in my dreams. Do you think Blight is his actual name or a nickname
With how silly Hunger Games names can get I am inclined to believe it is his actual name.
It is interesting though. Blight is a disease for plants, so it is fair to assume it is a nickname, because what parent would name their children after something that is negative. Like the whole industry of 7 would take a big hit if a big amount of the trees suffer from blight, so interesting someone would name their kid after that.
Or idk maybe his parents just hated him lol

Everyone with their songs for their OCs and ships, then there's me with my zero taste in music who basically only listens to the skyrim/oblivion soundtrack 99% of the time and has no idea how people can do that- 😭

#i know i havent really shared my writing on here#i don't think it'd do well enough to justify putting it out in the open like that#but i enjoy writing dialogue and im good at setting up plot-lines and character arcs in an emotionally cathartic way#(and then adjusting those plot lines a couple months later when i need a different kind of catharsis)#I've been trying to leave my comfort zone though#I've been working with a male protagonist#for the first time in my life#and a sort of more political drama angle#not really#but more like Dragon Age sorry#anyway i kinda wanna write something halloween themed but I'm not sure how to set that tone
