you know your TLT fic priorities are slightly out of whack when you spend 1 hr on rabbitholes about Proto-Indo-European numbers to fuck around with potential arithmonyms for 5 mins of actually writing

Remus Lupin head canons i’ve been collecting for 10+ years
- this hoe loves books, i know that’s a common head canon but let me dive deeper;
- he definitely is checking out matilda level amounts of books from the library every week before going to hogwarts.
- homeschooled by his mother 100% and she would make him write book reports so he learned to love annotating books
- cut to lily seeing him writing in a book in 1st year and being absolutely disgusted but eager to make friends so she asks him his favorite books and authors.
- remus goes on like an hour long tangent about tolkien and c.s. lewis and how much he loves fantasy and how he’s so excited he gets to be at hogwarts because it’s so close to his escape from his lycanthropy as a child.
- lily tells him all about literature and they start a book club right then and there.
- remus also studied piano from his mom as well, and then eventually when she couldn’t teach him anymore his parents saved up to pay for a teacher.
- he loves his piano teacher and over summer breaks goes back and takes lessons
- bonds with sirius because of this as sirius had to learn violin to become a “well rounded heir”. they play duet covers as entertainment for gryffindor parties and everyone fucking loves it.
- eventually mary joins in and plays guitar and they have a cute little peter paul and mary vibe going on.
- remus is so outspoken, and truly always the first to be informed on politics or news
- was very forthcoming on his views about the war, along with james and sirius. i believe remus was the most “radical” of them though, and wanted freedom/ equality for all creatures not just wizards.
- he also felt unease at the ministry and wanted systematic changes as well as wanting to fight against voldemort.
- extremely distrustful of dumbledoor towards the end of the war, and it caused division between him and sirius until the second war when sirius realized remus had been right.
- remus had a magical proclivity for defense, and was a great dueler. the only person who he was evenly matched with in his class was sirius. they often fought to draws. they absolutely keep count of their wins.
- remus, lily, and mary all collectively give james and sirius their music tastes. they have new records every time they come home from break.
- remus is absolutely a stoner and loves smoking joints, reading, and listening to music during his free time.
- him and sirius smoke together sometimes but remus smokes a lot more than sirius because it really helps him with his chronic pain and depression.
- oh remus rolling a joint is like the most sexy thing anyone has ever seen. sirius frequently uses those memories for….personal time.
- remus uses an expansion charm under his bed and grows his own weed, eventually becomes hogwarts resident dealer and always puts freebies in his deliveries
- the freebies include:
- little drawings made by sirius
- chcocolates
- sometimes if he’s hanging out with marlene and has to deliver an order she’ll draw a tarot card for the person and write down a little reading for them!
- remus’ own handmade stickers!
- yeah he’s everyone’s favorite drug dealer seriously 10/10.
- he operates this all under minnie’s nose and is forever smug about getting away with it.
- i could probably think of a million more because i just love him so much but ive been hitting my pen while writing this so i’m gonna go make a snack!!!

Okay I know this post will gain absolutely zero traction but the more I think about it the more I want to cry about it??
slight spoilers for one of the character arcs in Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre ahead,,,
So I saw Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre in the cinema today. I was alone, it was reasonably full, the film technically only opened two days ago, and it's wider release isn't for another week, but I had time to kill and it was the only thing that piqued my interest. It sits in an interesting spot tonally, comparative, I'd say, to Netflix Exclusive Michael Bay movie 6 Underground, though to use a more recent marker I'd drop it somewhere near Bullet Train (though it's definitely much closer to 6 Underground). All this context to say that I went into this Jason Statham-lead espionage action movie with zero expectations and almost completely blind.
So please believe me when I say I was truly blindsided with joy to have canonical, casual queer representation in this Jason Statham-lead espionage action movie.
Maybe it's that I don't watch a lot of media now, but it's something I noticed while watching Glass Onion too, both with Benoit and Hugh Grant (ha, put a pin in that) and especially with the character of Peg, and it makes me a bit teary and excited when I think about it. There's something to be said for how far we've come, to the point that Casual Queer Rep is even possible. There's something about watching Peg get all flustered talking to Helen and knowing that it's because she has a crush, without it having to be flagged, spelled out, or otherwise othered by the film or its writing.
It's normalised.
Which I know shouldn't be a big deal, but right now, to me, it is. I didn't realise I could feel this way; to see a full character who just so happens to be gay, where the plot doesn't revolve around her being gay, but that part of her identity is still made clear?? I love Peg so much holy shit.
But Glass Onion is the second in a series that has established itself as a forerunner for casual diversity. Let me tell you about how Operation Fortune made me want to YELL in theatres.
It's the 8th of January, and it might be a bit early to call it, but Danny Francesco might be my favourite character of the year.
Is he perfect? God no, he's objectively not a great person; he's sleeping with his sister-in-law, he's a Hollywood diva, he's demanding, and he (spoilers, seriously) ends up engaged to a war criminal. Who happens to be the main antagonist. Who happens to be Hugh Grant. Danny is the light of my life, however, and I love him with my whole heart.
So in the beginning we're told that Danny turned down $10m because he didn't want to jump out of Greg (Hugh Grant)'s cake and sing Happy Birthday; whatever, I thought, Greg is a rich, eccentric with an obsession with celebrities, and Danny is the biggest star right now, I shouldn't read anything into it because Sometimes Rich People Just Do Things For Status Reasons. We're also told, and subsequently shown, Greg tries to take celebrity's partners/girlfriends. Cue Sarah (Aubrey Plaza) in a bright red dress that I will dream about for the next month.
Also, in the scene where Danny, Sarah, and Orson (Jason Statham) are joining the fancy party, there's some distinctly fruity vibes between the three of them, but I'm not here to push my Orson/Sarah/Danny polycule agenda, just know that I have one.
So obviously Greg is excited to see Danny, but later makes a Very Distinct Pass at Sarah, inviting both her and Danny to stay with him for the weekend, with an implied Wink Wink Nudge Nudge.
While they end up taking him up on that offer, Danny, who started the film having refused Greg's Rich Weirdo Request, and now having to spend time with him for the job, finds that he actually genuinely likes Greg, who appears to genuinely like him back, doting on him, even giving him gifts.
When Danny says to Sarah "(I'm paraphrasing, about Greg) he's really into you! If you don't take him up on his offer then I might!" my eyeballs were Out Of My Head. Like sure it sounds like a joke that would be written in to simply highlight Danny's materialism, a whole 'gay for pay' joke, something about his vanity, or even just an offhand joke that I might hear one of my straight friends who were super comfortable and confident in their sexuality say about their best friends, I was So primed for this to be something that the audience could laugh off or dismiss in hindsight. Like in my mind that solidified my headcanon of Danny as bi, but I was so used to queerbaiting and years of being told I was reading into things.
So as the plot continues, Danny's fondness for Greg goes on, turns into something incredibly genuine, and looking back, he clearly has a hero-worship crush on Greg by the end of the film.
The last shot we see of Danny and Greg is the pair of them getting into an elevator after Greg pulls a stone cold power move on the films secondary antagonists, which he had Danny assist with for flare after Danny asked specifically to stay with him for that event. In the elevator, Danny tells Greg that that was "the coolest thing he's ever seen someone do" and that's the last we physically see of them.
HOWEVER!! THE ICING!! THE CHERRY!!
At the very end of the film, one of the protagonists mentions how he's gone into the film industry, and the response he gets is;
"You better not be talking about Danny Francesco and his fiancee Greg Simmonds!"
an accurate depiction of me as the credits began to roll;
WE WIN THESE!!
BOTH DANNY AND GREG ARE CANONICALLY BI/PAN IN THIS JASON STATHAM-LEAD ESPIONAGE ACTION MOVIE IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 2023!! THEY BOTH LIVE UNTIL THE END!! THEY'RE ENGAGED!! THEY'RE BOTH ABSOLUTE DISASTERS!! THEY'RE BOTH FULL, ROUNDED CHARACTERS WHO HAPPEN TO BE QUEER!!
I get choked up thinking about it now, considering how quietly overwhelmed I felt in the theatre realising that Danny and Greg's comments and moments throughout the film weren't some elaborate joke, the dialogue that reminds me of my friends, the moments that felt true to my life as a queer person, they werent the setup for any kind of homophobic mixup, miscommunication, or microaggression; no, I finally, actually felt like I saw a part of myself, of my community represented in media.
Everyone in that movie is terrible in their own way, but Danny and Greg just happened to be terrible people who are also queer. Are they perfect representation? No! Thank fuck! I think we deserve more dumbass, disaster, unethical queers in media.
Even if I don't necessarily recommend this movie (it's pretty okay if you're a fan of the genre I suppose), I subjectively love it and especially it's characters, with my whole entire heart.
Danny Francesco is canonically a dumbass, bi disaster who fell for his sugar daddy, war criminal Hugh Grant. Good for him. It's what he deserves. 🥰🥰🥰

Please, tell me more about literally all of the wips! What's cooking!
lmao oh gosh, what i have rn are like, very vague ideas and the docs are just full of lines that lead nowhere but….👀
1. jwds mafia
Before this, Joowon had only seen pictures. Dozens of them, featuring different angles and expressions, showcasing his subject in various types of clothing. Often alone, sometimes with his trusted confidante, but never with family.
Now, in the flesh, the first thing that Joowon notices is the slouch. Too relaxed and borderline lazy, and something he unconsciously frowns at.
literally what the filename says 😂😂😂 funny thing is tho, i have an ending for this and a beginning, but i completely have no idea how to stitch them together because all i have are vibes. just sth sth about jw infiltrating a rival clan to help hkh’s rise to power (pretty much the same with his motives in the show originally), going undercover but being busted from day one because lbr, he’s up against ds. but ds is weak to pretty men (canon) and lets jw do what he wants for a while, etc etc. this def revolves around the “love for jw but revenge for ds” premise, only that because i’m me, it doesn’t stay that way for ds ofc. it does, however, get messier and messier, and i cannot go into too many details without spoiling it but!!!! someday i wish to finish this, like, fr.
2. jwds5+1????
Manyang offering him a seat at a table full of people he’d antagonized more than once remains a strange phenomenon to his eyes, but sitting beside Lee Dongsik and letting his warm smile soothe him isn’t.
i got the idea for this while otw to work so hopefully i can finish this in a few days?? pretty excited about this tbh, but it’s essentially about jwds gatekeeping the other from ppl because they’re actually a little too insane for one another, as we all know!!! (the show canon is just too good, really) i think this will be my attempt to be funnier but who knows, maybe this will turn into something else entirely? again, all i have are vibes as of the moment. 🙃
3. jwdsjj
A question now sits in Jeongje’s eyes the longer Dongsik looks at him. Dongsik wonders if he’ll ask.
Then, slowly: “How’s Han Joowon?”
Dongsik blinks, caught off-guard. He thought of a number of questions Jeongje would have for him, the millions of ways he could’ve phrased what he truly wanted to know: what is Dongsik doing here?
But this—Dongsik has to admit that he didn’t foresee this.
The name sparks warmth in him, as it often does. Underneath that blanket of fondness and security is something that burns savagely, and Dongsik feels unmoored, like Jeongje is prying into things he shouldn’t.
“He’s fine,” is what Dongsik settles with. A crumb of a truth is a truth all the same, which is all he can offer for now.
Jeongje’s gaze flits to Dongsik’s side, at the obvious absence of the man in question.
Dongsik sighs. “He’s at home.”
Something seems to hit Jeongje then, like an unseen force: he shifts in his seat, a small smile sitting on his lips. He looks simultaneously victorious and resigned, as if he won a personal wager at the cost of himself.
There was a time, Dongsik remembers, that he’d ache when Jeongje looks that way. When they were young and Jeongje needed him, when he couldn’t fend for himself and Dongsik was still the taller of the two.
this is actually finished but idk, i’m not satisfied with it so i never posted it??? it sits at 5.5k words and while it does start in a way i like, it degenerates to sth that makes me go “hmmmm wait a sec” whenever i reread so yeah. 🙃🙃🙃 anyway, it’s about ds reminiscing and revisiting the love he has for jj (while jj is imprisoned) and realizing that it just couldn’t work for them that way. sounds very sad, i know, but i’m operating on what the show has given all of us lmao. i have to reread it again because i havent touched it in a while but i seem to remember that it’s also about ds seeing just how much jj loved him; it’s just that the love they had for each other didn’t happen at the same time and it was already too late when they both realized it. YEAH. now u might be wondering, how does jw fit into the picture??? that snippet is one of the many ways he does. 😂😂 (and just in case someone’s curious: no, it doesn’t end in a threesome. had i been capable of pwp, it def would’ve but alas.)
anyway this got way too long lmao but thank you, as always, for indulging me!!!! u’re amazing. 💕
#b1uetrees#ask#how do ppl tag asks nowadays lmao all i have are vivid flashbacks of tumblr circa 2010#and ppl just straight up tagged as such#my god i feel ancient each time i browse this app; so much has changed 😂

oooo, figured i’d reblog bc i think alot of these r really interesting! side note: won’t be commenting on versions i haven’t watched/read, or the ones i just.. don’t have much of anything to say about. I put these in numbered order matching with which take im responding to, if a number is skipped then it’s corresponding take is one i didn’t feel the need to comment on.
1: Yes and No on 2012 April. I think she’s definitely over hated by a fanbase that hyper-dramatizes how “awful” she is (i feel like how people tend to look at Donnie as a victim and make excuses for his weird behavior by making her look worse by comparison def feeds into this, at least from the discourse i’ve witnessed personally) I think she’s got some interesting ideas behind her, like having the kraang dna, but i just don’t think she has a super strong identity to me, like she feels more like a plot device and eye candy for Donnie and Casey to fist fight over than an actual character. Just an unfortunate byproduct of male writers who haven’t yet learned that objectifying women is wrong.
2: Eh, I kinda agree with this one too. I feel like he could’ve been INFINITELY better if we just got more time with the guy and got to see more of his personality shine through outside of the consistent crisis-mode the plot necessitated. His design totally fucks tho, the mask with Leo’s markings, the chainsaw hockey stick? Straight HEAT.
4: Valid, but also I think in some instances (importantly ones where they’re the same age) Casey and Raph can be a cute lil combo. But only on occasion, sometimes the vibes are there but sometimes they’re not.
5: I FEEL THIS SO HARD. She’s so intriguing but her arc is so infuriatingly paced that it makes me want to pull my hair out. I couldn’t even put to words why i hated it until i saw a video by godzilla mendoza that laid out the show’s overall pacing problem by using her arc as an example, showing EXACTLY how long everything took and how often they’d dangle development in front of the viewer just to rip it away with some contrived bs so they don’t have to commit to a status quo shift.
6: Eh it’s alright but yea definitely overdone at this point. I like that they give eachother shit all the time and have this cautious nerd vs. reckless jackass dynamic going on but i hate that so much of their onscreen interaction and most of their rivalry just comes from both of them wanting to get with April.
7: I agree, but i think the reason is that Mikey just didn’t get nearly enough focus in Rise to properly stand out. I really liked what little we got of him and think they definitely could’ve taken what we see in the show to some really cool places if given the proper time to flesh them out, but it just never came to be which is a damn shame.
8: BASED. I’m so fucking sick of April being shipped with the turtles you have NO IDEA BRO😭😭😭 It’s never once been done well imo, Mutant Mayhem was definitely the least egregious but i have this sinking feeling in my stomach that this might change with the series coming up soon. I feel like this franchise as a whole can do without shipping for the turtles, at least in the canon source material. Fanworks can go crazy, more power to em, but i feel like most of the romantic relationships we’ve seen attempted across the franchise proper have just never quite stuck the landing, and at least for me that can really bring down my enjoyment of a show.
9: Also based as fuck, 80’s shredder is so funny I love him and his dynamic with Kraang.
12: I agree! I think it’s a super fucking cool idea to have Casey start out as a cop. Then some inciting incident could happen that maybe exposes some corruption or something to make him realize that operating inside that system is not what he thought it would be, and that if he wants justice to truly be served he needs to take it into his own hands, thus becoming a vigilante. But hooooooly shit did they do this concept dirty. His casting is a big factor here too, no offense to that actor but he just did not fit this character well at all, and his writing was abysmal.
14: I actually do kinda feel this. It’s like you’ve got the other 3 turtles of mildly varying size and builds, and then Raph, who’s just this absolute fucking behemoth. It’s not necessarily his size that’s the problem to me rather than how he looks grouped together with his siblings. I feel like it could’ve worked if they pushed the varying body types a bit more (maybe make mikey just like this teeny lil goblin, Donnie could be taller than raph since spiney softshells irl also get pretty big, but much slimmer by comparison, while Leo keeps a build closer to what we see in canon) Either level the playing field a bit by making Raph a lil smaller or go ALL IN on making them completely different body types from one another. As it stands the lineup is just a lil bit awkward to me.
15: I think the worst part about 2012 Mikey is that sometimes he’s shown to be incredibly competent and then the next he’s like “baby drinking the chemicals in the cabinet under the sink” levels of stupid. Like idk how i’m supposed to be attached to this guy when the writers can’t seem to decide what he even is. Him getting slapped around is definitely excessive, but also he’s an annoying jackass sometimes who needs to learn common sense, and i can’t say i wouldn’t be in the brother’s boat of just getting irritated with him if i was in their position a lot of the time.
16: ABSOLUTELY. The crossovers never do their individual characterization justice because they’d rather make the same “haha look at these dumb 80’s guys, they’re so incompetent and can’t take anything seriously” jokes every time. Just because their series of origin is lighthearted and they’re all capable of doing the funny doesn’t make them all the same character. You saw people making this exact same shitty ass argument when Rise first came out and people saw them all just having fun together and not taking a threat they did not know the magnitude of super seriously. It’s an argument so clearly born of ignorance i feel stupid even dignifying it with a response. The only reason anyone would make this argument is if they just haven’t watched the show.
17: I actually really like them together in 2003, i think their slow burn development is a super fun little side plot to follow that ends really cathartically. Otherwise, 2012 was ass for obvious reasons, I think Rise!April getting with Cassandra is a pretty cool idea, aaaaaaand well the others i just don’t have any strong opinions about. I think they’re pretty boring most of the time but when done right they can be super cute.
18: I feel like a lot of Mikey’s i can see totally vibin with just having a bunch of friends. Like I wouldn’t go as far as saying I think he’s aromantic necessarily, but i don’t see him as being the kind of guy who feels like he needs a romantic connection to be happy. So long as he’s got his buds in the blunt rotation, my guy is perfectly content in life.
19: Based, people using her actions under MIND CONTROL to justify not liking April is yet another example of people bending over backwards to make her look like a bad person when- she’s really not? Like i personally find her a bit irritating but even i can point out that a lot of the criticism made against her are hypocritical at best and downright bad faith at worst.
20: I honestly can’t say i have a favorite canon ship in for this franchise, it’s not really what i come to it for in the first place, but i can see the appeal of Raph and Mona, even if there’s a couple elements of it i’d personally tweak.
Some of My TMNT Hot Takes 🔥
Warning: Opinions
2012 April was a good character and a fun version/take on April. Y’all are just mean.
Casey Jr. in the Rise movie was a bland and uninteresting character. He did not feel like/deserve to be called a “Casey Jones”.
Jennika in IDW, while a cool concept/character, is overused/overrated.
I don’t like shipping Raph (any version) with human characters. I prefer him dating other mutants or aliens.
2012 Karai is the best/most interesting version of Karai, but she’s also one of the most irritating recurring characters in 2012. I love and hate her.
Jonatello in 2012 is overrated as hell.
Rise Mikey is very forgettable (to me).
April needs to stop being shipped with the Turtles and being their love interest.
87 Shredder is the BEST version of Shredder!
I liked the Irma being a robot twist in 2012. It was an injustice to the Irma character but it was still shocking, and I do like her kinda return as Rook, so there’s some credit to that.
2007 Splinter was a bad dad.
Casey being a cop in the bayverse movies was an interesting take that could’ve worked for his backstory of becoming a vigilante, but it was executed poorly.
IDW Donnie x Mona Lisa is stupid and a completely pointless ship to include in the comics. It feels very forced.
Rise Raph is too big. That, or the other characters are too small. Either way, while I like Rise Raph, his design feels off sometimes.
2012 Mikey is actually annoying and often deserves to be scolded by his brothers for doing dumb immature shit. He’s 15, not 5, he should know better.
The 87 Turtles DO have individual and unique personalities, that includes 87 Leo!
Capril is not a good ship, but I’d still much rather ship April with Casey than with any of the Turtles.
While I love 2012 Renetangelo and 87 Kalangelo, Mikey is the one Turtle that I don’t think needs a love interest. I’d much rather see him be single.
If you’re mad at/hate 2012 April for “killing Donnie” when being possessed in that one episode, but don’t feel the same towards Raph, Karai, Slash and Rockwell for torturing/hurting their friends/family when brainwashed, the you’re a massive hypocrite.
Raph x Mona Lisa in 2012 is the BEST TMNT ship that came out of the four TMNT franchises that Nickelodeon has made. Maybe even the best overall couple in all of TMNT.

CHARACTER NAME: clarke isabella griffin CHARACTER FACECLAIM: eliza taylor CHARACTER AGE/DOB: october 23rd 1984 / 39 years old CHARACTER PRONOUNS/GENDER IDENTITY/SEXUALITY ETC: she/her, cis female, bisexual/romantic/polyam CHARACTER FANDOM (if relevant): the 100 OC OR CANON: canon IF RELEVANT, PLEASE COMMENT ON ANY IMPORTANT CANON DIVERGENCES: n/a WHERE THEY ARE CURRENTLY LOCATED & ANY IMPORTANT ALLIANCES OF NOTE:
primarily in polis, the coalition main settlement near washington dc, but also sometimes at mount weather. currently on the path to making alliances with the commonwealth/alexandria/hilltop/etc
IMPORTANT CHARACTER INFORMATION TO NOTE AND SHARE (this could be important headcanons for initial plotting, mini bios etc, supporting docs etc):
(please see main doc timeline for more in depth specifics related to the 100 plot and timeline)
due to her parents jobs and political connections, clarke started out in washington dc in the early days of the pandemic. she was kept safe with her family and friends (the jaha family in particular) in spite of the proposed plans to move the family to atlanta to help out there. this ended up not happening, especially when operation cobalt is discovered by her father-- something her and clarke agree to try and go public about in order to protect lives and stop the atrocious acts. however, this doesn't happen. instead, clarke's father is killed and clarke has a hit on her head for her attempted role.
alongside her childhood best friend, wells jaha, clarke escapes and goes on the run.
she soon comes to meet bellamy blake and his sister, octavia, who are leading a group of survivors that inevitably come to be lovingly dubbed the delinquents.
together with bellamy, clarke leads the group.
along the way, her best friend is killed and it causes a significant change in clarke and how harsh she becomes in ensuring Her People survive.
the group thrive for a good two years, eventually branching out from their safe camp/base.
this is when they come across another group, calling themselves the grounders.
it's Not Fun. jasper, one of the delinquents is speared through the chest and clarke has to race to save him. (before the apocalypse she was a surgeon).
a war breaks between the two groups, with losses and cruel acts commit by both sides. inevitably coming to an end when clarke is responsible for killing hundreds of the grounders. clarke and bellamy finally travel to meet with their leader, lexa.
eventually, a ceasefire is agreed upon and the groups merge and clarke and co become aware of just how vast lexa's coalition is. they have good resources, an incredible defence, plans for the future. and over time, the groups come to truly become one.
betrayals and assassinations later, we get to 2020. not without a lot of harsh acts along the way to survive (clarke picking up the title of 'wanheda' meaning commander of death along the way for her acts-- the 'i'll stop at nothing to protect my people' measures).
this is when mount weather is discovered.
it's been a wild ride since then but now, clarke is among a group of their people reaching out to the likes of the commonwealth etc with the aim to grow their alliances. they've been watching, have seen the changes these groups have gone through, and want to see if they can really become something bigger and better, protecting one another, growing their new world.
clarke has her reservations, of course, but she dares to still have hope.

Random Shigaraki Headcanons
This boi. This grubby boi. I love him so much but at the same time he would probably literally dust me so... (oof this one kinda dragged on and on... lol)
Literally has no idea about real-life relationship dynamics outside of what he’s observed in his own parents, in Sensei, and in Kurogiri. All he thinks in the beginning is that people who claim to love you will stand by and let you be hurt, that villains took care of him better than any damn hero, and that he can only truly rely on himself. (And Sensei.)
It takes a loooooooong time of interacting with other people to break himself out of this mindset, and even then, sometimes it comes creeping back if bad things happen.
Getting into canon territory with this one, but really, really, reeeeeeeeally hates heroes because they didn’t even bother to help him when he was going through a whole mental breakdown. Literally one of the only reasons he hates them so much. I know this is pretty much canon, but I doubt he would ever grasp Stain’s ideology of ‘maybe some are good’ because in his eyes, not even the underground pro heroes even bothered to see if he was okay. Remember the scene from the manga with the old lady when he was a child? Yeah. There were bound to be heroes he bumped into, even off-duty ones, and nobody even gave him another glance.
Has extremely bad abandonment issues. If he likes you, he’s gonna want to keep you because he didn’t really have anything nice to call his own while growing up, and Sensei kept him fairly isolated so he literally tolerates nobody else other than him and Kurogiri at first. Reacts horribly when his friends want to break off the friendship. Goes through a whole depressive episode for a while, his old insecurities pop back up, and he really thinks he’s worse than trash and not worth anyone’s time or attention for a while. Prime time for Sensei to further twist his mind.
On that same note, if you’re dating, for the love of everything still good in this world do not break his heart. He will never forgive you. Literally will go to the grave before he forgives you for doing what you did (whether it be cheating on him or completely dropping him like a hot potato). Although this might also extend to little issues that make him feel like you don’t love him enough, he’ll forgive you if you show him plenty of attention and apologize for whatever he was upset over. If you cannot remain patient through his toxic mindsets, it’s best not to get into a relationship in the first place with him if you want to still remain friends afterward, because breaking it off means instant heartbreak.
Anyway! Back to happier, funnier hcs!!
The whole embodiment of the “Wears black in summer because I look good and am willing to suffer” vine. Will not give up his comfy black shirt and sweats for anything because yes, he does look good in black, and yes, he is willing to suffer. He’ll switch to a v-neck tee though. Even he’s not that masochistic.
Really prone to dry skin. I know that’s canon, but just... this poor man can’t keep moisturized to save his own life. Constantly has to apply a special moisturizer that’s specifically made for ultra-sensitive skin and has no scents whatsoever.
Will gripe about having to spend so much money on ointment and moisturizer for both him and Dabi. It’s one of the very few things they bond over, other than having a shitty father and pushover family... and their hatred of All Might.
Shigaraki 100% would be Dabi’s alibi if he actually managed to kill Endeavor. When it comes to the shitty dad club, he’s a fuckin’ ride-or-die.
Kinda sensitive over the fact that both he and Midoriya have the same sort of red shoes, but he loves his pair too much to throw them out. Purposefully aims for Midoriya’s shoes every single time they meet each other on the off chance that they get ruined enough for him to get different shoes, unknowing that he literally can’t just... get differently-colored shoes due to him being originally Quirkless (yes, The Shoes™ theory strikes again)
Literally never forgets a single thing about people he cares about. He’s the type of person who will remember every single thing you tell him about yourself, and especially birthdays. While he doesn’t exactly show his affection very loudly, he would be the type of person who tell you “happy birthday” on the day of as soon as he first sees you, and would treat you a little nicer all day that day.
This boy just has the biggest, scarred heart for his ‘good crowd’. I cannot stress enough just how much like Midoriya he could’ve turned out if he hadn’t been abandoned by society. This mf would give the green bean a run for his motherfuckin money.
“I really just hate the world and everything in it... except for you, maybe I could make an exception for you because you’re nice to me and I appreciate your company too much”
Even though I hc quite a few League members to be like cats when it comes to affection, Shigaraki’s spirit animal is a cat. Likes to lounge about in off-moments, slow to affection and very quick to remember exactly how people treat him, yet if he likes you he shows affection quietly enough that it’s not obvious at first. Like “oh, you’re in the same room as me. It’s not like I missed you or anything, me sitting right next to you at the bar when it’s totally empty means nothing. The fact that I’m looking right at you when you’re talking doesn’t mean I like you.”
LOVES HUGS. If you hug him and he likes you, you’ve probably made his whole day. Depending on how things are going, probably his whole fucking week. Just please hug him, he needs positive affection so bad
Major tsun-tsun. The most tsun-tsun. Grumpy until you get to know him, and if he likes you he’ll show you in little ways: listening to your ideas more, letting you stay closer for longer, maybe getting you something like food.
AFRAID OF TOUCH. I REPEAT, AFRAID OF TOUCH. Not from anyone he likes, of course; this baby is so touch-starved that he deserves a thousand hugs. But if he likes you, he will not initiate physical affection because he’s so afraid of accidentally dusting you. The memories of his family dying (except for his father, because #FuckKotaro2k21) haunt him almost every time he dreams (and if that doesn’t, then other traumatizing events certainly do), and he absolutely would not forgive himself if he dusted his favorite League member/civilian.
Definitely likens the rest of the League to his MVPs after a while of knowing them. Knowing how he operates, it’s adorable.
Would begrudgingly let Toga play around with his hair. I can just see him sitting blank-faced, staring at the mirror as she talks about whatever while brushing and braiding it into a cute plait. He would be hesitant to undo her hard work afterward, no matter how much he grouches that it “ruins his boss vibe”.
The kind of person to go to McDonalds at 3 AM just because he was craving chicken nuggets and ranch. Yes, ranch. He’s an old-school mf who don’t got no time for no barbecue.
Gets really irritated over Toga mooning over Uraraka and Midoriya, but doesn’t stop her from talking about how much she wants to ‘be’ them. (Encourages homicide. Advises homicide. Spinner has to stop her from actually getting ready to commit homicide.)
Disgruntled™
G L O A T S about the time he took away Overhaul’s chance to use his Quirk. “Yeah, we would’ve been satisfied with Compress taking his left arm away to be petty, but then Overhaul had to be a sentient piece of dick cheese, and well, y’know I couldn’t let him get away with that”
It’s becoming a problem. The others have learnt to tune him out once he gets going. Compress just smiles under the mask when he remembers it. Nobody knows what he’s really thinking.
His damn crowning moment. His apex point. There’s no going further beyond that (until he finally defeats Midoriya and takes over Japan as the world’s most feared villain of all time).
“Shigaraki, I’mma let you finish, but AFO still holds the record for being the most infamous villain of all time! Of all time!” <-- let the boy dream okay, he’s been waiting for this moment his whole damn life
Can you tell that I’m still horribly salty over Overhaul being an ass? Because I’m still horribly salty over Overhaul being an ass
Chronic emo phase. Hears the G note and just sighs heavily
Has probably seen hentai. Doesn’t really get the appeal of high-pitched feminine screams. Probably more of a tiddy man than an ass man. Just... boobie
His first fictional crush was Aeris/Aerith. Legitimately lost his shit when she died.
Man Crush Monday is Sephiroth all the way. Especially his one-winged angel form. Wanted to cosplay him for Halloween but didn’t because the cosplay was too costly.
Will make “That’s what she said” jokes in the most deadpan voice. At least Mustard kinda snickers at them.
Probably would’ve been pretty patient with Eri. Her traumatic past certainly would’ve pitted her as a kindred spirit with him, and he would think her Quirk would be a powerful asset if used right. Probably would’ve practiced it by destroying something and then telling her to rewind it so that he can break it again.
Shigaraki, holding Eri by her armpits: “I’ve only had her for ten minutes but if anything happened to her I’d dust everyone in the room to make her feel better”
The rest of the League: “???????? Okay?????”
Legitimately holds a powerful grudge against parents who abuse or neglect their children, especially against abusive fathers. Almost as powerful as his hatred for All Might. Will actively go after someone he sees is abusive to their children and will not let them live.
Would probably adopt an orphan after killing their abusive parents. “Oh, that was your dad/mom/parent? Well guess you’re mine now. Let’s go get chicken nuggets, kid”
Might somehow rope Dabi into going abusive-parent-hunting with him during a raid. Takes great pleasure in seeing the guilty party’s horrified, pained look on their face as they slowly dissolve into a pile of ash.

Miserix!
YOOO I was hoping someone would send me Miserix for the ask game. He's one of my favorite characters ever since I was a wee lass yet I almost never talk about him for one reason or another. So this is good opportunity to give my Miserix related thoughts.
Content warning for suicide mention in one of the last points btw.
For starters, I find Miserix to be a rather interesting character. This is due to his backstory of being the disgraced former leader of Makuta who was overthrown by Teri and being exiled, desiring. Miserix has this...certain aura of intrigue and mystery due has this...aura of mystery and superiority surrounding him. He isnt a mysterious character by any stretch of imagination, but he def has a vibe of mystery to him.
I love his design so much...Hes a big large dragon with such a kickass design, can you say no to that. I also love how he was designed by a 12 year old girl.
Speaking of...CAN I JUST SAY I LOVE HOW MISERIX CANONICALLY HAS HIS DEFAULT FORM BEING A GIANT RED DRAGON BECAUSE HE FEELS THAT WILL GIVE HIM A SENSE LF SUPERIORITY (+ he likes dragons and feels comfortable in being a dragon form as such). This is why I love this dragon man so much, talk about a chad.
One of the reasons Miserix sticks with me is because of him being one of the few truly neutral characters in the series. Like sure he is a big angry dragon who hates Teridax and wants it all to be destroyed but I don't necessarily think he's evil per say, just someone whose mind was warped by revenge (and even if youd count him as a villain hes different from most other villains). Helps a lot that the object of his revenge was the main villain by say.
Him being an angry dragon who wants revenge is so fucking cathartic and I love it. Since like, sometimes you just want to go apeshit at those who hurt you, ya know. You Miserix, kill Terry like you want to!! Again what a chad!!!
Miserix is one of the most tragic characters in the series when you dissect him. Like, guy was loyal to his duty and mission, was betrayed by his most trusted lietnuant and then almost killed. And that betrayal and isolation degraded his mind to the point he's jusr a mindless beast who wants revenge at this point. And its so sad, especially when you wonder how much he changed due to these experiences.
Speaking of....I think about pre!exile Miserix a lot. Given how the Miserix we see in canon is...heavily affected by Teridax betrayal I wonder what he was before that. What did he value, how did he operate the Brotherhood? Was he deeply focused in his duty or did he have time for other interests and having meaningful relationships? What was his relationship with Teridax like before the latter betrayed him? What about the rest of the Brotherhood? How much did he change, did he have any values or was he just a mindless rage monster? There's so much room for interpretationand speculation and to headcanon and I love that.
The mainthing I can think of is... Pre!Exile Miserix is very driven by duty. Like, in Mutran Chronicles its made clear how he was very invested in his duty and believed in balance and order. It made him having this sense of ...goodness I guess??? Or at the very least that his arrogance was kept in check unlike the rest of the Makuta.
When I was younger I was very "UWU Miserix was good the other Makuta were evil f*cktwits who betrayed him" for a very long time but honestly rereading Mutran Chronicles made me realize that while he certainly had some kind of moral code he was messed up too (see how he convinced Takadox to act as a spy). Like, Miserix was like, lawful neutral at best (chaotic good if you want to stretch it) Def had a moral code to an extent but was not above shady actions.
Speaking of...I kiiinda ship Miserix/Takadox because of those lines that established Miserix hired Takadox to act as Barraki spy in Mutran Chronicles. Like the way Takadox looked at Miserix with concern when the Barraki were leaving the meeting w the BOM just really made me interested in their dynamic despite the fact we know NEXT TO NOTHING ABOUT IT. but the little we know gives so much potential for them to hacing a really interesting dynamic. Its a shame that Takadox yeeted off in FOF before he could interactwith his former emplyoer, it wouldve given interesting insight into the two.
I aggressively headcanon that Miserix was the first Makuta ever created, and possibly one of Mata Nuis first creations [since iirg MN created the Makuta while Great Spirits and Artakha created most of the GSR species ]
As a kid I seriously thought Miserix was a girl for a while because his name + design were kinda feminine for my child mind fsr. Because of this misconception I had of him as a child, I have ended up in headcanoning him as nonbinary (either genderfluid or bigender to be more specific, leaning towards the latter tbh). He would more or less default to he/him pronouns due to being more used to them but wouldn't mind being refered with feminine or genderneutral pronouns. That being said, he would probably be VERY against being refered with it/its pronouns due to seeing it as dehumanizing.
Also on a "baby me saw Miserix design as androgynous" I heavily hc his voice as androgynous too. Angry, low and booming yes, but in a way that doesn't sound too masculine. This is tve main reason I'm mixed on his voice in the Ignition stop motion: its too masculine for my taste (that being said the voice sounds super jnique and I always hcd Miserix having a rather unique sounding voice soo)
Break from headcanons and thoughts to say: MISERIX HAS SOME OF THE MOST BADASS LINES IN THE SERIES. So much of his lines are so badass and he def has a lot of my favorite quotes in series. Just so much confidence and badassness oozing him.
I find the fact Miserix was turned into a painting by Teridax incredibly funny. Also cant believe paintings are canon in Bionicle.
I think about post-canon Miserix a lot. Now that Teridax is dead, what now? Where would he go there? Would he still be rage-filled monster ,now just having no purpose for his rage? Or would he just wander purposlessly, feeling like theres no reason for him to exist? Regardless, there would be this emptiness... At some point Miserix whole existence became fixated on Teridax so like....When Teri died it was kinda..what then. Post canon Miserix is by far one of the more interesting post canon characters given how much it wouldve affected him. Eh, knowing how Greg writes hed either done "Miserix is driven mad/still rage filled" in the laziest way possible, come up some really stupid and convoluted thing that was out of tje blue or have him being killed off by Velika or one of his cronies instead of exploring his character in any meaninful way.
On a related note, can we talk about how its canon that in one universe Miserix loosing his purpose made him so depressed he killed himself? I think about that sometimesand just...man guy really was driven by having a duty and purpose.Again, makes me wonder what happened with prime!timeline Miserix post canon.
All in all ,Miserix is great and criminally underrated. Hes both a character thats incredibly simple(angry dragon who wants to kill Teridax) but has potential for complexity in him thanks to all the potential his story has. His story is a tragic one, being given a duty he was willing to commit to his fullest, only to be betrayed by his kind and casted away, this slowly turning him into a rage-obsessed monster we see today.Miserix is such a great and interesting character, and I wish more of the fandom paid attention to him.

Raf Tanager, meet Hope County
⤘⤘⤘There’s a new Deputy in Town⬽⬽⬽
So as a side benefit of getting into this fandom again with a brand new gender and a brand new vibe: a brand new deputy. Excited to introduce you all to my boy, they were developed for a joint Deputy au with @ophiebot (who will do this for their Deputy Elijah Rook if so inclined). Not exactly reinventing any wheels here, but this time its about the indulgence.
FYI, Molly is still extant, but her story I think has been explored in my brainspace as much as it needs to be.
➷The Basics
1. Give their full name, and describe them or post a picture! (Height, build, hair, eye, and skin color, etc.)
Rafael "Raf" Tanager (birth name REDACTED). 5'4", prone to chub but hardening up with the frequent exercise, solid build. Freckles on cheeks that darken as time goes on. Short hair kept red by some truly obsessive hairdye upkeep, which is harder than you might think. Hazel eyes. Burns and shrapnel scars around the eyes and mouth.
2. How old are they?
24
3. Sexuality and gender?
Bisexual, transmasc genderqueer. She/they/he but a preference for they/he when he doesnt trust the person using them.
➵Pre-Game
1. How did they end up at the Hope County Sheriff’s Department? How long have they worked there?
Raf grew up closer to Missoula, but he’s still a Montana native. They’ve been at this for around 8 months, pretty much right out of graduating college. Even they honestly aren’t sure how they ended up here, just the latest in a series of adrift jobs after graduating, taken primarily to avoid any potential financial dependence on their family. Probably would have resigned soon were it not for. Everything.
2. Relationship with Pratt, Hudson, and Whitehorse?
Pratt: Used to hate his guts. The teasing felt too much like flirting for their comfort and he was honestly kind of a bully. Now its trickier. He's pathetic in a way that’s hard for them to be around, as awful as that is, because it hits too close to home.
Hudson: Had a massive crush on her for most of their early days that pretty much went out the window post Eden’s Gate. They still try a little too hard to impress her though.
Whitehorse: Intellectually, they resent his passivity since it means a lot of Eden’s Gate ended up falling in their lap and he’s STILL insistent that maybe they should have left it alone when they’ve all had months to realize why that was a bad idea in the first place. Emotionally, well, they’re maybe a little in need of a father figure or two.
Elijah Rook: The former Rookie. They were quietly a little intimidated by him prior to all this and that’s never fully gone away, but they’ve now been able to witness more of his dorky side that makes it a little harder to take him seriously. You try chaperoning this guy from one end of Hope County and considering him at all frightening.
3. Do they have an education?
They have a MASTERS and its never relevant to anything because its a humanities degree, specifically the classics. Part of the reason they’re a little adrift currently, there was no easy dismount out of college. Just a hell of a lot of debt.
4. Where are they from? Did they speak a different language there?
Missoula, or close enough to it. They picked up some Latin and Greek from their degree. The Latin comes in handy more often than you’d think, what with the cult stuff, but the reading material is a real bummer.
5. Is there anyone outside the valley that might have come looking for them?
They’ve never had many friends in college and high school that could outlast physical proximity and they basically ghosted their family since that was easier than coming out to them at a certain point. So no, no one they want to find them is looking.
6. Did they have a religious background of any kind?
His father is a preacher, and while there’s some baggage there they would still describe themselves as broadly religious. Or at the very least superstitious.
➷Inside Hope County
1. What was going through their head when the helicopter went down and during the subsequent chase?
The crash was honestly the easiest part. That was just panic. The chase was the hard part. The helicopter exploding ended up catching them in the face, leaving them with burns and scarring that would remain for the rest of their life. She's lucky she wasn’t blinded. Still, he was forced to stumble out of the woods in intense pain and bleeding out. Had it not been for Elijah they definitely would have been taken then and there.
2. Were they afraid of Joseph and Eden’s Gate? Angry?
Terrified. Not just because of what they’ve done but because Raf knows intuitively that he's susceptible to it. As early as their first encounter they have a hard time breaking the hold Joseph gets on their mind. Even though they’re conscious of HOW they’re being manipulated, its hard to resist it.
3. Did they trust Dutch?
At that point Raf would’ve happily taken literally anyone who seemed to know what they’re doing and wasn’t holding a gun to his head.
4. How did they feel about their team being taken by the cult, did they count them as lost, did they want them back, did they not care?
Absolutely the nightmare scenario: people’s lives depending on them and their ability to be decisive. Had it not been for Elijah they probably would’ve high tailed it out of there and tried to find someone higher up the authority chain to deal with this mess. Still, just abandoning them all didn’t sit right with him either, and by the time they’d liberated Fall’s End even he had to admit he was there by his own choice.
5. How did they take to the idea of being part of, if not leading, the resistance?
Again, Raf doesn’t really do well with people depending on them. Alone. they probably would have found it a lot more miserable, but Elijah significantly helped lighten that load for them in terms of having a direction. They’ve found out they’re accidentally pretty good at working with a variety of people and can even be inspiring without meaning to. Still, in their ideal world they would’ve been left alone, or at least remained a foot soldier.
6. Which companions did they recruit, and who did they travel with the most?
All guns for hire were recruited, but Sharky and Nick were their go-to’s, Sharky for personal reasons and Nick for air support. Grace was usually the adult supervision when Nick couldn’t make it but. To be frank Raf's aim isn’t great and it drives Grace a little nuts on prolonged missions. She’s tried teaching them but it never really seems to stick.
7. Did they have time to find romance amidst the chaos? How did they do it?
Sharky. That relationship was a bit of a cold opener (and don’t bother, Sharky already beat you to that joke). After getting their face fucked up during the escape they’ve had a pretty healthy aversion to fire and explosives, making his recruitment a little harrowing. Still, Sharky's sweet in his way, makes them laugh and breathe a little easier when the pressure gets to them, and operates on a pretty similar brainwave. They’ve been joined at the hip since their first few months in Holland Valley. They’re both a little on the codependent side, but really, who are they to complain.
8. Feelings about Joseph?
Joseph taps into a lot of vulnerabilities inside of Raf intuitively. The absence of a strong support system, the loneliness, the fear, the directionlessness, the relationship with their own spirituality, it all provides him a unique entryway into their psyche that he is exactly the kind of person to exploit. As a result, he tends to fixate on them over Elijah, usually to their detriment. Still, that connection can sometimes go both ways, and there are things about Joseph that Raf understands which even his brothers never fully do.
9. Feelings about the other Seeds?
John: They have a unique capacity for antagonizing him. Probably because as an oldest child themselves they know exactly how to jab at the youngest child insecurities. Still, that relationship didn’t stem any deeper and he focused his energies a little more on Elijah. Still, they have him to thank for the Sloth scars on their arm, thanks for that. They’re starting to run out of unmarked skin.
Faith: Faith, meanwhile, was a little more directly focused on Raf, partly because her region was the first time they had to operate a little more on their own. For personal reasons, Elijah wasn’t particularly able to engage with the Bliss. Meaning if Burke was ever going to get saved Raf had to be the one to go in there, again and again. Faith, like Joseph, can tap a lot of that loneliness that Raf has, as well as some gender and sexuality stuff Joseph can’t touch. Suffice to say Sharky had a pretty good reason for being as overbearing as he was during those months, even though he was eventually able to do the job. As a side note, they haven’t had access to their ADHD meds for MONTHS and it doesn’t help when the cult drug is the first thing to make your head feel clear in a while.
Jacob: Jacob was utterly uninterested in Raf and the feeling was mostly mutual. He doesn’t really get him or what he’s about, just knows that the county would be better off when he was put down. Transition goals, though (don’t tell Staci they said that).
10. How did they handle having to kill animals and other humans? Had they done it before?
Animals yeah, you don’t live in Montana as long as they did without hunting occasionally. People....well. You can get used to it.
11. Which canon ending did they choose in-game, and would you have changed the ending at all?
Resist. I wouldn’t. Raf might.
➷Personal
1. Favorite weapon(s)?
They usually prefer to show up to spots early and lay traps, try to minimize the direct combat involvement. When it can’t be avoided though, their pistol isn’t ever far and neither is a hunting knife.
2. Stealth or firepower?
Stealth, one hundred percent. Sharky and Eli are here to do the firepower.
3. How did they spend their time, when not fighting peggies?
A lot of bad movies with the boyfriend and a LOT of poker, one of their more unknown talents. Resistance isn’t gonna fund itself.
4. Where did they live during the events of the game?
Wherever there was a bed they could fall into. Their little trailer they’d been living in prior to all this got absolutely decimated while they were healing up on Dutch’s island.
5. Any other facts you want to share about your Deputy!
He’s got almost supernatural luck to the point that a couple of their guns for hire have gotten superstitious about bringing him to certain events. Including fishing. The catch just always seems somehow a little better. Also he’s privately obsessed with the 1998 recording of Cats and is terrified of anyone finding out.

hi mariam!! 💖 okay i know pretty much nothing about the divergent series, but i love reading your pointed opinion tags about it, so if you could improve tris as a character how would you do it? or is she (and i guess the whole series) just completely beyond repair?
hi jenna! 💙 ohhh this is a fun question. i’ve never really thought how i would repair her character, but let me try to think of some ways that i could make her more tolerable ...
my biggest problem was that she really had no personality to me, as far as i can remember. and to me, if i can’t imagine headcanons for a character, it means that character just does not have a personality for me to latch onto and imagine them in situations beyond canon. so, first, i’d give her some kind of personality that doesn’t consist of her boyfriend and making ‘witty’ remarks. i’m not even mad that all she does is lash out; i know other characters who lash out, too, but tris just falls so flat because i felt like veronica roth was just trying to show how much of a badass tris is; she just felt like a caricature of ‘strong female mc’ instead of, like, an actual human being. take toph, a truly unhinged character in my opinion, who loves lashing out: but she’s not just like this. i always think of the scene in the desert when the sand benders take appa away and toph understandably could only hold them off for so long. it really did hurt her for letting the situation get beyond her control. oh, and remember when she kissed suki, thinking it was sokka? we love to see it. also, toph is ultimately limited in what she can do and she acknowledges that. tris? she can shoot her way through any situation. making her invincible like this is just a turn off for me.
another unhinged character that comes to mind for me is kaz from six of crows. he’s selfish, utterly mean and so very despicable. it’s very hard to like him at first because his choices are so questionable. this is what tris should have been like but failed to be. why? because tris has no substance to her character beyond the aforementioned traits. i don’t get a sense of who she is as a person at all. but for kaz, we know why and how he’s come to be like this. he’s said so many times: he’s a businessman in a filthy city crawling with people ready to cheat you out if you aren’t prepared, kaz has honed himself over the years to be sharp as a knife and ready to do literally anything to achieve his goals, no matter how despicable. and eventually, you end up rooting for kaz, even though he’s horrible so much of the time. even so, he cares for his friends--at first, he sees them as pawns, but then eventually he sees them as partners. he even jokes with them sometimes. and with inej, especially, he can’t even he close to her without feeling like he’s going to shatter. it’s these nuances with his character that make him feel so real and enjoyable to read.
tris? does her personality ever change with anyone she’s around? does she ever have any goofy or endearing moments?? it’s like she’s just forever meant to be in this ‘badass’ mode with no sense of why she’s like this. now that she’s in dauntless, she’s forever going to remain a dauntless, with no nuance whatsoever. if she had retained some of her abnegation traits, it would have made her so much more interesting. and i don’t like how being dauntless comes so easy to her. sure, she had to train physically to become a better fighter, but you can’t tell me that spending your whole life in a faction that values selflessness wouldn’t rub off on you mentally in some way. but no. the moment tris joins dauntless, it’s like her old life is just completely gone. i would have loved to see instances of her abnegation upbringing clash with her dauntless reality. i would have loved to see her struggle with these two aspects of her identity, considering they are so contradicting. i would have loved to see her think ‘maybe this was a bad idea’. then, maybe, her inclusion into dauntless would have felt somewhat earned after a struggle. but no. she gets there, endures some bullying, throws a few punches, loses, trains, jumps on and off trains and plays capture the flag. oh, and she does get a tattoo to honor her old life, but i can’t buy that at all. show me you’ve been struggling to fit in dauntless because of your abnegation upbringing before ultimately deciding to honor it instead of it being a random ass aesthetic decision. show me that old life meant something to you! it seemed like tris just despised being in abnegation and couldn’t wait to leave. so her getting a tattoo to honor it makes no sense to me. it does not feel organic and just feels more like some aesthetic choice veronica roth wanted to make with her oc knowing how much the kiddos would gobble it up. and it worked. i saw this tattoo everywhere on instagram and the like.
what are her interests, hobbies? what does she like to do beyond the immediate plot? i really think it would have been much better if we’d gotten to see her acting outside the realm of the main story sometimes. like, i cannot make sense of who tris is at all before the choosing ceremony and before the whole divergent plot even happens. she was just vibing at her own faction, doing what ... ? why should i care? that’s one of the reasons katniss is effective as a character, we really got to know her life before the games and how that life affects her performance in the games itself. we know why she’s the way she is and it adds a new level of depth when we watch her training for the games and when she’s finally in the games. if katniss seems mean and aloof (and she is), we know why: she’s been the sole breadwinner for her family since her father died. her mother lost herself in depression and so it was only up to katniss to ensure her and her family’s survival. oh, and living in the poorest, filthiest district also puts it into perspective. katniss has been operating on survival mode for years and years now. her skill with a bow? same reason. her badassery with her weapon feels earned because of her backstory. we know how she got to this point. and it’s the same thing with toph: we care about her because we know where she’s coming from and what she’s going through. it puts everything about her sardonic temperament into perspective exactly because she’s lived such a sheltered life pleasing others and now she lives only to please herself. i like toph’s character. she is a true badass. i love her scathing retorts and unwavering confidence. tris is just a cheap, watered down version of her; she annoys me because there’s no soul to her. when she brags about her prowess, i’m like, why should i care? what have you done that should make me care about how awesome you are? you haven’t earned that.
now, why is tris like this?? ....to show that true strength comes from having nerves of steel and a sharp tongue and that’s it? why is she the way she is? in what way does her past affect her current character and actions? in no way, because i have no idea who she was in her old life.
also, can she just do things besides...lashing out and using a gun?? maybe give her a sense of humor or an unexpected hobby? that would have made her character more interesting for sure.
and the worldbuilding is fucking atrocious. i’ve no idea to this day why tris is a special snowflake as there’s literally no reason for her to be. it just makes her character even worse because now she thinks she’s special and everyone should be bowing down to her because she’s such a big threat. why? because she has more than one personality trait......i can’t. this is just utter stupidity and gives me even more reason to be annoyed at her for thinking so highly of herself for something so stupid!! if she were like everyone else, maybe it would have made her the tiniest bit more tolerable, but no.
i think all this just boils down to the fact that veronica roth just wanted to make a ‘badass female mc’ instead of a real human. it just feels so 2010 to me. girls can fight. girls can talk back. girls can hold their own ground. like, okay, yes, and? where is the nuance? the humanity? she just feels like an android to me, like a checklist of traits the author just piled on top of each other to create the ‘perfect feral mc’. toph’s and katniss’s characters just feel organic, coming from and developing at a natural place. tris just feels so forced, a product of, like, this aggressive brand of girl power i cannot vibe with.
#answered#i'm so sorry jenna this is like an actual essay 😭😭#i haven't read the divergent books in years so there's a lot that i don't remember#but tris really sticks out to me because of. all these reasons#and especially after reading and watching other characters who are like her but better#it just made me realize#tris ain't it#long post#schech

given the revival of the vii fandom with all of the hullabaloo surrounding remake, i can think of no better time to do this meme. i also suggest you check out my updated nav page if you haven’t already! i worked really hard on it okay sobs.
things a new rp partner should know about me !
write 3-5 things a new rp partner (or those who want to be) should know about you and tag 3-5 people! it should be related to rp and not to other interests.
tagged by: no one, but it’s a shame bc... i got thoughts. you were warned.
tagging: @angereve @enshijou @breselin @serophs @strfe @fractempyreal @extremepath @localmagicalboi @shimmerseas @duplikiss @verumking @asterites + if it strikes your fancy.
i. i am not your mother’s/father’s yu.ffie blog. while i do have a verse reserved for compilation content, that’s not the main premise of this blog. if you came here for oversexualized underage ninjas.... i’m going to have to direct you elsewhere. out here we’re primarily an adult modern interpretation... who does not daylight as a ninja constantly. she can, however, be a y.akuza or a sheltered member of high society who enjoys kicking ass for justice so if you’re interested in that, y’know. c’mon down.
ii. the typical ‘ yu.ffie is a kleptomaniac ’ / ‘ stop stealing my stuff ’ trope is like. one that grates my very existence. i have talked about this many times, but for those of you who are new: yufi has only stolen out of necessity to her cause. the only time i’ll refer to petty theft on this blog is if she like steals a fry or something. if we’re joking around, okay, but... please don’t consider that to be the sole core of her characterization. i’m begging. i’m on my knees. i’m warning you, i’ll cry and then i’ll probably ignore whatever post you’ve mentioned it in if you’re serious. just. don’t be that person if you’re following me.
if we’re going into it, the only times she’s stolen anything were: > in crisis core, as the ‘ treasure princess. ’ but this is arguable, as the treasure is truly up for grabs to start with & zack repeatedly goes after these locations she’s sent to him ( which, by the way, were sent to her from rufus to attempt to retaliate against + destroy shinra hq ). zack already knew what was up when: 1) she showed up in his spam folder; 2) she literally said she’s on the hunt for treasure; and 3) he knew at least after the second time that he was gon’ get goinked ( please see definition #2 ) so... can’t help him there. > in vanilla vii, when the party is foolish enough to meet her and not recruit her off the bat ( it be ya own self ). to be fair, 99% of her interactions with easterners / non-wutai prior to that moment had been people who either wanted to kill her or exploit her, so... it’s only self-preservation to use them before they use her or worse, leave her for dead. a sad reality for a 16 year old. > in vanilla vii, only after the party arrives to wutai & she thinks she can successfully finish her mission of “ getting all the strongest materia. ” after she’s captured, she does apologize, and then afterward makes cloud sign it in writing. so. y’know, she did learn from her mistake & said “ ugh, guess i gotta put that diplomacy training to use. ”
y’all could argue that she’s a thief class and that’s what they do, but note that it’s NOT one of her core skills-- it’s a MATERIA. which means everyone out there with a steal materia could be out here being a kleptomaniac. cloud? barret? tifa? red xiii? none of your favs are safe. her skills in the game, however, are shit called “ blood festival ” ( oh? see the username’s relevance all of a sudden? aha! ) and “ doom of the living. ” she’s out here summoning ghosts and reigning otherworldly power on ur ass but... fandom wasn’t ready for that conversation !! some folks were too BASIC and couldn’t handle her true strength... so i will gladly champion that for you.
iii. i like to emphasize that yufi is an emotionally strong yet traumatized figure, which stems from her origins and that i just put that in the forefront. we have a character who is haunted by her mother who died after childbirth, seemingly rejected from her father yet held to the highest of his standards, has attachment issues because she’s the “ black sheep ” and doesn’t just accept defeat or dejection even if it comes from her core community, survived multiple wars, has led in post-war rescue efforts on multiple occasions, was wrongfully imprisoned, was on the forefront of pandemic outbreaks as a first-responder, joins and rises to the top of an organization created to restore world order, is one of the two top operatives in said organization ( and the one out on the field longer--sorry vin.cent, but u only got involved at lu.cretia and when the actual gunshots disturbed your brooding and wine session filled isolation sessions. but like, mood tho ), pretends to be cheery despite clearly remembering all the hauntings and death and other bullshit she’s been facing since she was a toddler.... oh, and she disarmed bombs when her country was wrongfully targeted + used as political bait for terrorists...when she was a child. that’s canon, if we’re talking about “ accuracy. ” even in vanilla vii, she had no outlets, no one to turn to, ‘cause everyone was cloud vc: “ not interested. ”
so if you’re on this blog, it’s not like you won’t see happy yufi... but realize that i recognize that she is multifaceted and has a lot of baggage. emotional issues which unfortunately i bring to every verse gfdohfofh but u know, it’s core to her character + y’all gon have to deal, or... idk, go find another yufi. i’m not forcing you to be here.
iv. in my opinion, the best plotting comes with ooc conversations/interactions. i’m not saying if we plot that we’re required to be friends, ‘cause i don’t wanna force anyone into friendship, but i truly believe that if you want super deep plots with frequent interactions, we should... probably talk more than once. pretty simple, imo ! sometimes people claim i play favorites, but i really don’t... if you never talk to me and you don’t respond to my attempts to interact, then how am i supposed to know you’re interested?
as a general rule, i’ll put in as much effort as i receive. if i see you’re interested in me, if we’re really vibing when it comes to plotting, if you’re sending asks & liking posts, we’ve got some threads going, rad ! if i like starter calls and send you asks and message you and you never respond to me... ? i’ll take that as a sign you don’t wanna talk + i should move on to someone else. if i’m wrong, well... do something to change my mind.
v. i know i went hard as fuck on this meme, but that’s bc I’M REALLY PASSIONATE ABOUT ABOUT THIS MUSE. in reality i’m actually quite soft + a weenie babie. if you ask.......... most people, i think they’d say i try really hard to be approachable and adaptable. i think everyone who talks to me on discord laughs at me because i’m scared of the stupidest things + i love to make jokes and just be funny and relatable. so please be nice and love me and my sassy fighty extremely tough deprived child. we both need hugs.
kthx i’m finally done.
#♝ mun.#long post /#WHEW.#also my nav legit has a f.a.q so like.....#i'm trying y'all !#but ! if u never ask u'll never know.#until i decide to drop a wealth of knowledge on you all gdoifdhodgd#whoops my hand slipped......

2019 Best Press 3/4: カタカナ・タイトル + Kanji Title by TANUKI
While for many vaporwave vinyl is doubtless equal parts collector’s item and audio source, I don’t want to lose sight of the goal of this blog here: developing a canon of the genre for high fidelity enjoyment. That said, when I come across something remarkable or noteworthy about a particular piece of wax, even if it is not a “purely audiophile” object, I want to make mention of it.
And TANUKI’s カタカナ・タイトル + Kanji Title wax release is not only noteworthy, but contends for hi-fi consideration despite it’s status as a picture disc.
But let’s back up slightly.
Going back to the previous thesis on why we buy records, sometimes you just want to own a vinyl just because. Just because you’re a collector trying to compile a discography on wax — or, better yet, just because you truly love the album art. For me, カタカナ・タイトル + Kanji Title (Double EP) was undoubtedly all of the three “just be-causes”.
A while back, I noticed that the LP was going into its 3rd press, and decided to snap up a copy because I like Tanuki, I like Lum, and because of those other just becauses. Unfortunately the only format available was not the pink vinyl, but the picture disc. As I’m sure is well-known (because audiophiles are very loud about things they dislike), picture-discs are a big no-no in the audiophile community. This is because while a beautiful objet d’art, a serious listening session of a picture disc release will usually produce greater amounts of surface noise than any other type of vinyl. You can, of course, with the right system, neutralize and mitigate this process slightly, but true-blue hi-fi heads pursuing that elusive muse of “pure sound” would never give a picture disc a second look.
I’m not one of those people.
Tangentially, I’ve heard whispers of ghosts of rumors from when I was living in Shenzen, China — that various record suppliers (small batch Makers) are working out manufacturing and material processes that minimize these issues on pic discs to create appealing records that cover all the bases: hi-fi suitability, collector oriented visual esoterica, and price. I should also admit I have no idea where those companies are in terms of R&D and/or producing these. I end up catching a lot of very fast talk from extremely motivated enthusiasts, but Chinese is still as elusive a language to me at times as “pure sound” can be. With that in mind, however, it’s logical to surmise that advances in technology will eventually render the differences between picture discs and traditional black wax undistinguishable. So long as the world isn’t destroyed in some cataclysmic climate disaster (very real possibility), or -- as we are watching evolve now: World War 3. My view is that it’d be pointless to dismiss the format out of hand when there are active attempts to innovate it as we speak.
That all said, I know what to expect when a contemporary, big-label picture disc plays. During my college days, I used to spin wax at the university radio station. One of the previous catalog managers had a fetish for this “collectible” format, and was convinced he was doing the station a favor by purchasing all these vinyls, noting a pre-supposed resale value later. I remember throwing these on the well-worn Technics SP-10 we had as our main turntable, and listening to the occasional scratch, frequent popping, and constant surface noise, that for the uninitiated (bless you), sounds like a sustained “cracking” in your Rice Krispies — or for those born in the analog age, CRTV static.
So when I sat down with the Tanuki picture disc, I had this laundry list of preconceptions and prejudices about the format. I thought that I could listen to a moderately scratchy record once or twice, keep it as more a visual boutique item and then eventually include in an article where I bemoan the poor quality of the genre’s releases.
But then, I actually listened.
And it sounded… well, I won’t get ahead of myself. Here’s the full review:
THE MUSIC
BABYBABYの夢 — is doubtless the reason why many of us have bought the EP from a sonic perspective —especially if the band-camp reviews are indicative of trends. I still maintain that this is the Mariya Takeuchi sample/remix work par excellence. Tanuki hits all the essential notes here, a genuine respect and love for the sound-staging of its original source, Yume No Tsuzuki. I still get echoes of the original arrangement in my system, (ever so slightly) with a bright and dance-infused collection of unique sounds — particularly in that delicious, wide mid-range — that flesh out the track into its own sort of masterpiece.
何がGoin' On — the curatorial and conspiratorial side of my brain tells me that Goin’ On will probably go down as one the under-appreciated vintage bangers of this era of future funk. I can envision hipsters two or three decades from now sussing out a neophyte with pretentious questions about this track’s pitch-shifted sample draws from. It has that sort of vibe that you know hits with a certain subset of electronica fans — rich & vibrant, making the tweeters on your system work out in all the best ways — it’s just great.
がんばれ — Tanuki is at his best when he gets playful with brass samples. I firmly believe that the titans in this genre each have their go-to piece in their best arrangement — like Dan Mason’s creative vocal array, or greyL’s manipulation of micro-samples. For Tanuki, it’s whenever her gets a horn — synthesized or otherwise, into his production workflow.
ファンクOFF — continues Tanuki’s magic act, taking another city pop track more iconic for its soulful electric guitar riff and turning it into the most slap-worthy single on this EP. I prefer it when Japanese pop samples are fundamentally re-imagined, although I can see how the perfectionist tweaking of someone like Yung Bae is more appealing for some. Tanuki is undoubtedly one of the innovators of this genre, and there’s no more solid evidence of that talent than this track.
腕の中でDancin’ — if I ended up hosting a sort of mythical vaporwave grammies or something like that, (I’m available, folks!) I would probably go off on a Ricky Gervais style rant on how artists aren’t in touch with “the people” (read: me) because all we really want are more remixes of Meiko Nakahara songs — who given her impact on City Pop should have way more play in this genre than she does. This one, like most of the Meiko mixes I’ve heard, is a banger with an absolute fire bass riff punctuated throughout.
Radiant Memories — this might be my first certified “hot take” in the publication (they’ll be many more, I imagine) — but as far as I’m concerned this is the superior Plastic Love edit. I’ll just leave my thoughts there, so they can soak in with a portion of the fanbase who split my reddit account on an open fire of downvotes for suggesting that other artists than Macross 82-99 (Praise be upon him!) are allowed to touch this song as well. While Macross’s mix is definitely the more up-temo of the two, and that for some is the very essence of the genre, this slightly down-mixed version is both the perfect conclusion for the EP and ideal antithesis.
THE LISTENING EXPERIENCE
Signal to Raise ratio on the following albums:
カタカナ・タイトル + Kanji Title: ~61.9db (1 db MoE)
Tron Legacy, Daft Punk: 58.4db
Love Trip, Takako Mamiya, Kitty Records Press: 65.8db
(ratings based on averages 5 minutes of sustained play on the testing unit, the machine actually complied this data on its preset, which is another fascinating part about this sort of vintage press-testing tech). The margin of error is because the machine, according to my mentor Dr. Juuso Ottala formerly of Harman International, informs me it was never meant to give accurate readings of picture discs, and to add about a dB of error margin.
One of the benefits of growing up in New England and, subsequently, New York, is that there are no shortage of heritage professional audio brand HQs in operation around a 200 mile radius from Manhattan to Boston. Off the top of my head, there’s Harman/Kardon, Boston Acoustics, Bose, NuMark, Marantz, and Rane headquarters within an hour’s drive from my two hometowns. Early on in my audiophile quest, I got my hands on some cool vintage gear — vinyl lathe testing equipment that has collected dust in both an old Harman technician’s storage unit, and now my parent’s basement. Over the holiday, I recently brought it out to do some surface noise testing on it to get a rough confirmation of what I was explaining in yesterday’s hi-fi guide. The innards of the machine looks eerily like a plinth-less linear tonearm and plate pair attached to a monitor. After making sure I’m not violating some kind of Harman International trade secret, I’ll post it on instagram.
Wanting to also get a firm idea on just how good my ear-test sounded, I grabbed another picture disc vinyl I had received as a gift a few years ago from my brother — the Tron Legacy OST. While I found the film passably enjoyable, my own preconceptions about pic discs, and a general exhaustion with french house — left me with no discernible desire to spin the thing. I hadn’t even broken the seal on the plastic wrap, so it seemed like as good as a blind test as any. I also grabbed what my ears tell me is a “good”, “heavy” press, a 1982 original dead-stock copy of Takako Mamiya’s Love Trip LP pressed by Kitty Records Japan. I’ve played it maybe a half dozen times since I bought it, so it’s as close to “new” 80s audiophile pop record as you can get. The Japanese are infamously anal about low SNR on their vinyl.
And, well, the results speak for themselves. The sweet spot for most black vinyl records is between 60-70db depending on age, weight, and a host of other frankly uncontrollable factors that aren’t worth getting into detail here, as I’d go on forever. The main takeaway here is that Neoncity’s and Tanuki’s record sat at the low end of the audiophile vinyl reference spectrum. Which in itself is a remarkable achievement for a pic disc. It’s worth taking a look at Tron Legacy, which just barely scratches 8db above a cassette tape, and 7db a Japanese vinyl from 1982.
This is all in an effort to say: damn, this is pretty good.
This also somewhat counters the usual “picture discs sound like shit” narrative that’s prevailed pretty consistently in the audiophile community. Tron Legacy? Yeah, that probably sounds like shit if I could bother to suffer through a listen. But whoever Hong-Kong based Neoncity is using actually makes “good” — if such a qualifier needs to be attached — image-pressed records. And that devotion to audio fidelity should be rewarded.
It might be time for me to re-asses picture discs on the whole, and that mind-expanding moment is something I owe to the fine folks at Neoncity.

@necromin Thanks for the asks still Flowey
Why I like them
Oh... Asriel is a character who was practically written for me. I remember I fell in love with him from the very first demo of the game. He’s just this... person who looks like ‘there is no way to save him’ in a game that operates off the premise off ‘not having to kill anyone’. He is a codependent traumatized kid stuck in a loop, and I think his... desperation, especially in No Mercy, and how much... love he is brimming full of is... It’s funny because even when he ‘lacks’ love, you can see how much he cared/cares about Chara and his desperate loyalty and his willingness to go along with anyone and dependency. I felt the reveal of who he was, was just... so satisfying because with every layer unraveled around him I just grew to love him more and more. He’s kind of my dream come true... this dissociative little kid who’s presented so ‘maliciously’ and who is a ‘fake smiler’ and feels empty inside but who is truly this person worth being saved, who is... brutally sad in nature. Just... this incredible painful narrative of loss from someone who... desperately had one person to rely on. Also like... I just love this Bad Kid. Like... these two kids? Two little kids saying to each other ‘Creatures like us are so rotten, we wouldn’t hesitate to kill or betray each other’ and yet despite him saying this, you can tell Flowey has the utmost loyalty to Chara. Even though he SAYS this, the one loyalty he still has... is to Chara. Even the mere belief they could be around, regardless of any killing they do, overturns his grown apathy. His goal is never quite the same as theirs, but he would go along with any goal that makes them happy as long as he is by their side and they still think well of him. It’s this amazing... contrast that... says so much about Flowey as a character, and how he must have gotten to this point. As soon as Chara is there, you can see chips of the facade break away. This was built up to impress Chara, because he felt he was wrong and they were right and ironically when he is with them he can’t help but be a bit softer in contrast.
Why I don’t
Ugh, sometimes I’m frustrated by the soulless explanation. He just seems ND to me. Lately I’ve seen something that treated ‘soullessness’ as a sort of neurodivergence in itself, and that was compelling to me. But really I’m not fan of the ‘doesn’t have a soul’ bit because so many fans use it to be lazy and separate Flowey and Asriel as characters completely.
Favorite episode (scene if movie)
Oh... The end of the fight with Omega Flowey. And... his hallway talk with Chara in the No Mercy run, right before the protag gets to Asgore.
Favorite season/movie
Not applicable.
Favorite line
“It doesn’t matter now. I’m so tired of this, Chara. I’m tired of all these places. I’m tired of all these people. I’m tired of being a flower. Chara. There’s just one thing left I want to do. Let’s finish what we started. Let’s free everyone. Then let them see what the world is REALLY LIKE. That despite it all, this world is still ‘kill or be killed’. Then....? Well. I had been... entertaining a few ways to use that power. Hee hee hee... .... But seeing you here changed my mind. Chara... I think if you’re around... Just living in the surface world doesn’t seem so bad.” ^ This whole speech is what destroys me and no one does anything with this speech no one ever draws any lines from it except maybe ‘kill or be killed’ in variations I’m just. This speech DECIMATES me. “Why am I telling you all this? ...Chara I’ve said it before. Even after all this time, you’re the only one who understands me.” “I didn’t want to live in a world without love. In a world without you.” “I'm not ready for this to end. I'm not ready for you to leave. I'm not ready to say goodbye to someone like you again... So, please... Stop doing this... AND JUST LET ME WIN!!! STOP IT! STOP IT NOW!!! Chara... I'm so alone, Chara... I'm so afraid, Chara... Chara... I... I...” “Why are you being... so nice to me?”
Favorite outfit
I like that time he dressed up as a goat boy with a yellow and green sweater.

Head Canon
Oh hey it’s BPD boy. I could actually write a meta about this. I could write an essay about all the ways he demonstrates characteristics of BPD, down to Chara being his FP, his abandonment issues, his chronic emptiness, etc etc, and his rapidly circulating impulsive emotions Mains Reaper in Overwatch. I like to headcanon him as honestly... suffering through PTSD/dissociation or the monster equivalent thereof once he gets into his little flower body. Just his chronic feelings of emptiness, loaded with the fact he... literally can’t die. I mean, he CAN but suicide is a hard enough option when even flinching or having a last second doubt will cause you to still live. Chose his gender identity, in a way that actually physically effects his magic dusty body, because monsters are magic. Mama’s boy. Think this because he has that line, after visiting Asgore about how ‘not even SHE (toriel) could fix what was wrong with me’. A lot of people suggest that the first person he killed was someone close to him. But I’m willing to bet it was someone he didn’t know that well, and that he reset right after. I think it took a long time for Asriel to feel ‘liberated’ or ‘capable’ or ‘like there were no permanent consequences’ to killing, and then it just wore away until there were 0. I am sure he wishes he could reset to before him and Chara’s plan like, every day, and that though pops up in his mind every day too. (We already know he spends a lot of time calling for Chara.... “Did you hear me calling you?”)
Unpopular opinion
He’s just Asriel in a flower body. ...And I will admit, I do think he shows symptoms of abuse. I don’t think Chara intended to hurt their best friend or was intentionally manipulative but I do think they coerced him into a few things and forced his hand. Also a lot of the things Asriel says like... definitely imply those two were bad kids or occasionally did very bad things. I don’t think Asriel himself was 100% sweetness and goodness even before all the trauma. I just think you’re seeing him at a really vulnerable point where he wants to be sweet and good and leave a nice final impression. A sad breakdown where someone makes a few realizations is not the same as day to day life, and I think Asriel’s characteristics as Flowey are better for determining his character than his final speech at the end. A loquacious, mischievous brat who I love. Also like, ‘hellflower Flower’ and ‘sweet good innocent goat child’ are the two most bland and most common ways to write his character. Also honestly? I feel a lot of people pin Flowey as the ultimate evil of the game (and often drop that he’s Asriel when thinking of him in this way but...) what Flowey does is ‘what a gamer’ does. His actions are not that bad because he knows there are no consequences to them, much the same way someone playing a game knows. And I don’t just mean in a ‘no repercussions for him’ way. He also knows, that if he goes back, the dead won’t stay dead. Also people need to let Asriel have his ‘Chara wasn’t the greatest person speech’. Everyone’s always trying to act like Asriel is a dick for it, but that speech in itself does imply Asriel had a hard time looking at Chara’s flaws. Unfortunately the audience is even worse than Asriel about this, so Asriel can’t even have his two minute speech where he is able to admit to himself Chara wasn’t always right and he wasn’t always treated well.
A wish
I used to wish all the time that there would be a DLC where you could actually save Flowey but that dream is dead. Sometimes I still hope the next game Toby is working on will touch on him in some way but I kinda doubt it
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen
The worst possible has happened to him. Guess it could be worse but it’s still pretty sad. No Mercy route is my ‘oh god please dont ever happen’

Toriel
Why I like them
Interesting? I feel like she’s this caregiver who loves children and is given some complexity beyond that. Like Lisa’s Terry, they take a ‘tutorial’ character and make them an emotional centre of the game. It’s like... this character who is normally set up to impede you in some way in both games. And while embodying the handholding of a tutorial, Toriel is someone who you don’t want to speed by or treat callously even though she is set up to be what is ‘frustrating’ in a game. Many people who first play have a hard time leaving her behind, it’s this interesting? Not sure if subversion is the word, but it’s definitely an interesting way to play with the concept of the tutorial and have it be an active and emotional part of the story.
Why I don’t
I wish we’d been able to have a bit more of an ongoing dialogue with her or check up on her at some points. I really wish that we’d been able to dig into her a bit more deeply or see her thoughts on a few things...
Favorite episode (scene if movie)
Her final confrontation with Frisk is my favourite part, right before they leave the ruins. After that it’s her running into Sans and being able to have a nice meeting with someone she’s known for a long time but never met proper. It’s nice to see them both get a chance to be a little goofy and happy.
Favorite season/movie
Not applicable.
Favorite line
“It would not be right for you to grow up in a place like this. My expectations... My loneliness... My fear... For you, my child... I will put them aside.” “Pathetic, is it not? I can’t even save the life of a single child.”
Favorite outfit
The purple one.
OTP
I like Soriel. I honestly just felt they had something? (also the game... literally implies such) They’re both these lonely people, and idk... part of the reason I do like romantic soriel is because I dislike a lot of the vibe of.... ‘Toriel’s divorced and had a family break apart, so she must always stay a divorced sad mother who is untouched from all other relationships’ I’m good with their relationship in all capacities, but the way people act about the kind of flirty dialogue at the end being this big TABOO just strikes me as off.
Brotp
On that thread, soriel. I totally dig interpretations where they are throwing wine parties with each other. In a few neutral ends the two end up living together which is interesting to me, I feel like that’s a mostly unexplored topic. Though I guess that topic is a bit bittersweet. I feel exploring them as platonic or close in different ways is interesting too
Head Canon
- It was a long time before she was able to make snail pies, butterscotch pies, after her children died and she left Asgore. For awhile she lived on the Underground’s fast food equivalent because she couldn’t find the energy to cook anymore. It had been zapped out of her. - When the first child fell down it ignited this chamber inside of her and it was the first time she’d been able to cook in awhile. - She’s better at being active when there’s people to do things FOR, and struggles with doing things for herself - Since she’s a little monster made of dust, there was probably a lot of her childhood where she maybe wasn’t quite sure what to settle as gender wise and she really got into the concept of femininity in her teens and became very confident using she/her then
Unpopular opinion
The framing of a lot of arguments against Toriel dating bother me. If she wants to date, let her. Also I feel like Toriel can’t EVER win! People are either like... she didn’t do enough to prevent children from leaving the ruins or ‘she’s kidnapping children and restricting their freedom!’ (despite the fact we know she was never able to keep ANY of them for very long) I even literally saw a post recently that suggested part of the reason Chara was upset in the underground was because Toriel prevented them from leaving the ruins which is like? No? It’s made super obvious that’s a reaction Toriel has to kids dying in the underground. Also. It’s great to have nuanced views on Asgore, but any argument that goes ‘Toriel hiding away from the responsibility of keeping Asgore from killing kids is just as bad as , idk, killing kids’ has a rotten argument. Both of them made mistakes. Maybe part of it is a bias on my end that if Tori, with her sharp personality, had been a child murderer and Asgore had retained his soft nature and had been too sad and lonely to stop her, I just don’t feel the same criticisms would be being made. But who knows!
A wish
That she’s happy forever after and is a great teacher and adopts other kids and has good things happen to her and restores her relationship with her son (Flowey)
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen
Idk, bad things have already happened to her. I’m not fond of her and Asgore getting back together (I think it’s for the best they split ways and heal on their own for a bit) but I’m not like Oh God No or anything.

Sunniapple?? Ya girl Fuji?
my opinion on;
character in general: Let me first copy-paste the paragraph that I nearly always start with when reviewing OCs – in playing an OC, you already are operating on a deficit compared to canon characters, in that your information pages (and perhaps the first few pages of your blog) have to be enough to get people interested in your character to the point of wanting to stick around and put the effort into learning about them. It can be an uphill battle to be an OC among canon characters; and I confess, even as someone who has played an OC, I know I’ve lost interested in plenty of OCs before for reasons as petty as info pages that I found lacking, blog set-ups that I happened to find aesthetically irritating, etc. So, you’re in a tough spot right out the starting gate – you have to work much harder to get yourself even semi-established as an OC blog than someone who runs a blog for a popular canon character (even if they are, frankly, mediocre at best).
So, all that said, I’m friendly to OCs, yes, but even I actually find myself to be quite picky. I’m a slow, deliberate writer, I have schoolwork to do, I work full-time, etc. I want to give my time to the best when it comes to RP, or rather, I want to give my time to the people and characters that I feel will vibe with me the best. And you, and your girl Fuji, are definitely the type that I want to populate my RP experience with! Fuji is relatable precisely because she’s at a stage in her life where pretty much everybody here has been before: young, poised upon the brink of adulthood and the burgeoning of responsibility, and on one hand being eager for that to happen and eager to feel as though she at last has truly come into her own as a capable and innovative individual, but on the other hand being nervous of those changes yet to happen and fearful that perhaps she won’t be ready enough when the time comes for her to step into the role that awaits her. Fuji is a bright-eyed and figuratively bushy-tailed little thing who, to me, represents the crossroads between youthful idealism and mature practicality. She’s at a point in her training where things are becoming serious – she’s left Kaishin to be trained personally under Ea, the Kaioshin of Universe 3, and they have a wonderful, solid relationship between them as mentor and student. However, clearly this relationship will not last forever, as students are fated eventually to step out from the shadow of their mentor and take on the tasks that they have been prepared for. Fuji, in my eyes, is at a point where she is becoming increasingly aware of this inevitability, seeing it looming on the distant horizon and casting a slight shadow of doubt over her confidence. For now though, the sun shines, so to speak. She still has time for play and leisure, and for making mistakes, and for trusting that she has a cushion of people willing to help her as needed. She’s growing. She has time for that. She’ll be okay.how they play them: So far, my favourite thing about how you play and present Fuji is that, while she’s a happy, optimistic, easily likable young woman (or, young for a Kai, at least!), you don’t stop her characterization at those ‘easy to digest, totally got her life in perfect order!’ kind of traits. She’s also competitive, insecure, lacks confidence or the ability to gracefully and eagerly withstand (hopefully constructive) criticism, and so on. Basically, she is very much a Kai-in-training, of good heart but still finding her feet when it comes to the duties which await her in the future. She wants so much to do a good job, but of course lacks the experience at this stage to have an easy time of things yet, even when it comes to things regarded as ‘the basics’. She’s mature enough to know that sometimes she needs to ask for help, but young enough too to feel embarrassed about it. As a result, she has a charming, youthful freshness about her, and feels very much like a good-natured, smart, eager-to-please-and-learn girl who still perhaps, at times, underestimates herself or worries that she isn’t coming into her own fast enough compared to her peers. (She is. She absolutely is.)the mun: Dodo, you are the best and I have such a good time with you in the group chat! I absolutely want to talk more with you one-on-one as well. I know that you’re busy and have a heck of a lot going on in your life, so, you know, take your time as always, but definitely be aware that I love you and your characters and will always be stoked and eager to throw down and have a chat with you!
do i;
follow them: Yes.rp with them: Just started recently.want to rp with them: Bihhhhh get all up on me with that good shit!ship their character with mine: I don’t ship Fuji with Shin, no, although I do like the prospect of this little ‘mentorship on the down-low’ thing that seems to be getting set up between them at the moment. I’m always here for nice, positive little platonic relationships between Kais, because hell knows they need those. (That said, as an aside, I actually kind of like the idea of Fuji maybe having/developing something like a minor puppy-crush on Tora instead. Like, not even necessarily truly or seriously romantic in nature, but sort of like this slightly fluttery little admiration!crush, or something. Somehow the idea of them developing a certain brand of camaraderie is really cute to me, since it seems like she’s one of the few whom Tora is already inclined to gentle himself for, a little bit.)

AU Thursday: Londerland Bloodlines/Tell Me Where To Find Shelter -- Layers of Alice
Okay, I said that I wanted to do this meme for Alice back when I did it for Victor, and I FINALLY completed it. Reason it took so long? Well, I did it for BOTH my Malkavian!Alice’s -- the standard one from “Londerland Bloodlines,” and the one that I felt the need to jam into “Tell Me Where To Find Shelter.” And it took me longer than I thought to nail down some of the favorites. . .
Anyway. Here’s the completed meme. Anything that applies to a specific version of Alice, I have designated with either LB Alice or TMWTFS Alice.
LAYER ONE: THE OUTSIDE
- Name: Alice Pleasance Liddell
- Eye Color: Green
- Hair Style/Color: Very dark brown, practically black – though it used to be a lot lighter. If Alice had a picture of herself as a child on hand, she could prove she used to be practically a redhead. She thinks age and so much time spent in an asylum is what caused it to darken the way it did. At any rate, it's about shoulder length, a bit shaggily-cut, and she tends to wear it loose, parted in the middle. If she needs it out of the way, she'll put it up in a ponytail.
- Height: Five feet, five inches
- Clothing style: For everyday wear, Alice tends to be very practical – simple, easily-cleaned tops; sturdy pants or skirts; and solid boots or a good pair of running sneakers. But she will confess that she's a sucker for a pretty dress (as anyone who could look inside her head when she's in Wonderland could attest to), and if given the chance will happily flounce around in a full skirt. Her go-tos tend to be in darker colors – blacks and browns don't show stains as well, after all. If she's dressing up, though, she'll go with something brighter, or at least work in some pops of color.
TMWTFS Alice, post-War, scavenges whatever jeans and shirts she can find, along with whatever armor might fit – she's can see how dangerous the Commonwealth is, and even if she's a lot harder to kill than your average settler, she wants to be prepared! She does take a couple of pretty dresses, though – and in my world, there's a Mistress of Mystery dress to go with the Silver Shroud costume that she grabs from Hubris comics. Victor finds it very – distracting.
- Best physical feature: Alice would say her eyes – people seem to find them pretty attractive, and she herself likes the shade of green they are.
LAYER TWO: THE INSIDE
- Fears: Fire (comes with just barely surviving a house fire); losing those she cares about (also because of the aforementioned fire); being mind-controlled (thank you, Bumby and LaCroix); losing control of her Beast (because it's the decapitation-happy Queen of Hearts in her head and that would be bad on a number of levels)
- Guilty pleasure: Drinking from humans – Alice tries to be pragmatic about it, and does her best to obtain some form of consent before she does it (unless it's a battle situation – you're trying to kill her, anything goes), but she can't help but feel bad sometimes that she enjoys sucking the blood out of people's necks. The fact that they enjoy it too mitigates it a bit, but. . .
- Biggest pet peeve: People making jokes about her name, or not believing she's actually named "Alice Liddell." TMWTFS Alice is actually somewhat relieved when it transpires the post-War world doesn't remember "Alice in Wonderland" well enough to make fun of her.
- Ambitions for the future: LB Alice just wants to keep up her peaceful existence in Hill Valley, protecting her loved ones and avoiding other vampires and vampire politics as much as possible.
TMWTFS Alice wants to help the Minutemen and the Railroad with their operations and continue adjusting to life after the nuclear apocalypse. Happily, she has a much easier time avoiding vampire politics, mostly because they don't exist anymore. (Kindred – did not do well after the nukes fell.)
LAYER THREE: THOUGHTS
- First thoughts waking up: Depends on the situation and how thirsty she is – if she's calm and sated, it'll be something along the lines of, "okay, nightfall – what's the most pressing activity I can think of?" If there's danger afoot, it'll be closer to "crap, okay, where's that sword of mine?" And if she's hungry, it'll be something like, "Closest source of blood is?"
- What they think about most: How best to keep herself existing, and keep the people she cares about safe. LB Alice of course has her little polycule, plus Lizzie and Bonejangles; TMWTFS Alice's main priority is Victor, but she likes most of his friends well enough to want to look out for them too. (I imagine she gets along well with Preston, Piper, and Nick in particular.) Keeping herself properly sated is also a common concern for her – it's not so bad for LB Alice, who has willing ghouls to donate, but TMWTFS Alice has to factor in the radiation levels of her prey. She's pretty sure she's immune, but she doesn't want it to turn into a "plaguebearer" situation. . .and if she isn't immune, well. . .
- What they think about before bed: LB Alice generally just reviews her day and tries to make a few plans for the next one, if she's not plopping into bed just before sunrise. TMWTFS Alice is typically looking for the safest place to go to bed – her "sunlight allergy" means she needs a well-protected shelter, and even after that's eventually taken care of, she wants to sleep somewhere relatively out of danger!
- What they think their best quality is: Her ability to survive whatever the world throws at her – I mean, no matter the verse, this girl's been through some shit. Yes, it takes her longer to recover from some things than others, but the world has yet to get her down permanently, and she intends to keep it that way.
LAYER FOUR: WHAT’S BETTER?
- Single or group dates: Alice would actually not mind going out as a group as a first date – while she's not really a fan of crowds, she'd feel safer with more people around in case her date turned out to be an asshole. Once a connection is made and she's comfortable, she'd prefer single dates, so they don't have to worry about anyone but each other.
- To be loved or respected: Alice would choose respected, especially with her memories of being a fledgling in LA! She does not like people talking down to her or ordering her about.
- Beauty or brains: Brains – Alice can enjoy a pretty face on an aesthetic level, but in a partner, she wants someone she can talk to. Being gray-ace probably has a bit to do with that.
- Dogs or cats: Cats, definitely. She grew up with cats, she befriended a cat in the asylum, she followed a cat the day she plunged back in Wonderland and started discovering just what it was Bumby was up to. . .cats all the way. Of course, finding cats that like her back can be tricky when you're a vampire who gives off an "unnatural" vibe animals tend to pick up on. . .but I like to think both Malkavian!Alices eventually find a pet. In TMWTFS Alice's case, Victor likely traps one for her, and luckily its one not bothered by her Kindred nature. :)
LAYER FIVE: DO THEY?
- Lie: Definitely. Usually to protect herself or her loved ones. And as long as the Masquerade has to be upheld, she's always lying at least a little bit to the average person on the street. (TMWTFS Alice is relieved when that particular lie can be dropped!)
- Believe in themselves: It's a bit of a "fake it until you make it" situation with Alice – she does her best to believe in herself and her abilities, but she still struggles sometimes with self-loathing and survivor's guilt and all that fun stuff.
- Believe in love: Believe it exists? Sure – her parents had a very happy marriage while they were alive. Believe she can find it? Not until she realizes she's falling for Victor – which means LB Alice believes in it for herself a lot sooner than TMWTFS Alice!
- Want someone: LB Alice, though she gets Lizzie back, would still like to have her parents returned to her. Her sister is awesome, but she's still only one part of the family Alice lost. She also wants Victor after getting to know him more, and feels guilty as hell about it for a long while because of the whole "accidental ghouling and blood-blonding" thing. And then Victoria and Emily enter the picture, and things get even more confusing. . .at least with those three, she gets everyone she wants!
TMWTFS Alice wants her whole family back – going more canon for her Bloodlines adventures means she doesn't even get Lizzie, poor thing. :( She knows it's basically impossible, but she does still miss them. And, again, she ends up wanting Victor after getting to know him. Fortunately, she gets him.
LAYER SIX: EVER?
- Been on stage: Never in a professional capacity – just in the "nearly executed in front of an audience of vampires after her illegal Embrace" one. Oh, and being an extra in a school play once.
- Done chems/drugs: Never willingly – she was subjected to a few "experimental medications" while in Rutledge to help her catatonic state, none of which worked (though fortunately none of which left truly permanent damage either). And if she's not careful about who she feeds on, she can get a high from whatever's in their blood. Alice tries her best not to feed from anyone drunk or high, but she has gotten a bit tipsy from sipping on revelers early on in their revels. TMWTFS Alice drinks from one raider on Psycho once and basically goes Ragebox mode for a while – it takes months before she's willing to bite another raider in a fight.
- Changed who you were to fit in: Not really, unless trying to suppress her Wonderland hallucinations for a while after getting out of Rutledge counts. But that was firstly, a mental health issue, and secondly, in the bad old Bumby days, so she's not sure how much it counts. She was also politer to LaCroix at first than she really wanted to be, but that was out of fear of his Dominate discipline – and that facade smashed to pieces after the Grout Mansion Incident. These days (whenever they are), she's just herself, and everyone else has to deal.
LAYER SEVEN: FAVORITES
- Favorite color: Blue and red
- Favorite animal: Cats, butterflies
- Favorite movie: Both versions of Alice actually have rather fond memories of Negative Zero, which they saw after helping Ash Rivers (figuring they ought to take a look at his work). It's a rather dumb and cheesy action movie, but Ash's performance was good, and they can think of much worse ways to spend a couple of hours. Also, for some reason, my brain has decided Alice likes Ghostbusters, or whatever the local universe equivalent is thereof. This is probably just because I'm fond of the movies myself (yes, the 80s originals AND the 2016 reboot) – I guess an actiony-horror-comedy appeals to her?
- Favorite game: Okay, I'm not sure what of the parody games in Bloodlines would appeal to LB Alice, but I do have a persistent headcanon that, if Sims 2 exists in that world, she and the family end up getting it once they're out of Los Angeles, and really enjoy it. Alice probably recreates herself and her family as humans so they can have a happy life together (after getting some sort of polyamory mod).
As for TMWTFS Alice, of the available games in Fallout 4, I think she'd enjoy the challenge of Pipfall – seeing if she can beat her best time and whatnot. She might like the Automatron holotape as well, trying to beat every wave of enemies as fast as she can.
LAYER EIGHT: AGE
- DOB: May 4th, 1984 (she was 20 when Embraced)
- Day of their next birthday, they will be: LB Alice would have been 21, though now being an undead creature of the night, that doesn't mean a lot.
TMWTFS Alice on the other hand. . .20 years old when Embraced in 2004. She would have been technically 93 when 2077 rolled around – and 303 when finally unstaked in 2087. Her next birthday would be May 4th, 2088, so that would make her 304. Probably one of, if not the, oldest in the Commonwealth!
- Age they lost their virginity: Never – Alice is gray-asexual and never wanted to have sex with anyone before getting turned, and doesn't want to have sex with anyone now. Being a vampire, she prioritizes the Kiss anyway.
- Does age matter: Yes, in the sense that, after Bumby, she is going to slaughter anyone going after a minor. Between two consenting adults? She might be concerned if there's a particularly large age gap, but as long as everyone is happy and there's nothing illegal going on. . . TMWTFS Alice happily admits this question gets a bit muddied with her and Victor's situation too (she was Embraced at 20, he was frozen at 27 – but she was born in 1984, and he was born in 2050. . .).
LAYER NINE: IN A BOY OR GIRL
- Best personality: Alice likes kind, gentle people who don't mind getting their hands dirty and who don't want to order her around. Bonus points for a good sense of humor or being able to give as good as they get when it comes to her sarcasm. It's kindness that really gets her attention, though – part of the reason she's attracted to Victor is just because he's nice to her. She hasn't gotten nice a lot in her life, especially not from men.
- Best eye color: Alice wouldn't say she has a preference, but she does like Victor's eyes – it intrigues her to see a brown so dark!
- Best hair color: Again, Alice doesn't really have a preference. Heck, she might joke that having one would be hypocritical, given how her own hair proved so changeable.
- Best thing to do with a partner: Something they're both good at and can enjoy – Alice would like a quiet night reading as much as a spar, as long as her partner was having as much fun as she was. She also likes board and card games – she and Victor probably play their fair amount of chess!
LAYER TEN: FINISH THE SENTENCE
- I love: Victor, and I will not let anyone take him from me.
- I feel: rather more confused than I would like, most of the time.
- I hide: how scared I am by some of what's happened.
- I miss: being a proper human.
- I wish: that my loved ones and I could just have a normal life together.
#tell me where to find shelter#londerland bloodlines#meme#layers meme#malkavian Alice#okay typing out that acronym all those times is making me rethink not renaming this universe 'Fallout of Darkness'#I'm just used to 'Tell Me' because it's what I started with#and it was the movie and game stuff that gave me the most trouble#mostly because I wanted to reference stuff in their universes#but I couldn't recall any parody movie or games in Bloodlines off the top of my head#recalling Negative Zero was lucky there but#yeah I gave in and just referenced real-world stuff I thought LB Alice might enjoy#I really do think she'd have fun with Sims 2#I did :p#also I keep picturing a Siamese cat (or at least a similarly-colored cat) as Alice's pet in Tell Me#dunno why it just worked out that way in my head#*shrug*#queued
