i hate that people hate britta. i understand the joke in the show of 'brittas the worst' but some people take it way too seriously -my own brother- and she deserves better. shes such a sweet character and i love the plot with her parents, especially her talking with frankie about it. frankie is my favorite character overall, but i love her interactions with britta especially. s6 ep 2 is so special to me, seeing britta talk about her parents is so sad. the whole thing of her parents not being good people until she was older is so sad, especially since the study group doesnt realize how bad they were when she was a kid and just assume shes ungrateful

-that section in particular reminds me of Bojack Horseman, specifically late s4, as Bojack has to deal with his mom being a "good mother" to a doll, when he never got that treatment. especially when the people around him only percieve his mother as what she is now,, a sweet old lady,, when he had to experience all her abuse-

i was really hoping for a flashback that episode too, to see what really happened to her as a kid along with her talking about it. her and frankie have such a special relationship, frankie helped britta so much in this episode and i think they're such a sweet duo. brittas the worst but shes so amazing, shes the best!! yeah she messes some things up, but SHES MY GIRLLLLL

I really wish we got more of shirley and abed’s relationship. abed finally having a consistent mother-like figure in his life has so much storywriting and character building potential (and it’s also just really important to me lmao), plus shirley being able to connect with aspects of life she’s historically been pretty far removed from (other religions/cultural practices, pop culture, just general neurodivergency etc) is so good for her character, and it exposes sides of her we don’t see too often.

we get bits of their dynamic in basic genealogy, messianic myths and ancient peoples, and introduction to teaching, but that’s basically it I think. they’re just really important to me and I wish the writers had explored their relationship a bit more

i genuinely love the first episode of community so fucking much because it's everything that could've been but was not yk?? like you can tell what it was supposed to be,,, you can tell the relationships that were supposed to be central to the whole thingy,,,like Britta was smart but just passive (in a weird way,,, i still think they did her character dirty by dumbing her down like season 1 Britta and the ones after that are so different and you can't change my mind about it and it's not even about negative or positive growth) and Troy and Pierce were supposed to be the comedic beloved-ish duo rather than Abed and Troy,,, and they were not doing the weird Annie and Jeff thingy at that point (jeffannie makes no sense and I can't believe it's actually canon-ish because while there is a big age gap , the way their dynamic is shaped also feels very age centric wherein Annie constantly feels infantilised and Jeff has all the power) and the way dean pelton is a distant figure who's scatterbrained but trying to make best of the situation but still somehow making blunders (which is precisely why he's such a big part of community tbf because while he might not be a student, he's as much of a part of the community of people trying to function as people) (also will never not love his speech) and the way Abed and movies were always supposed to go together and to some extent the way Jeff and to a lesser extent Britta were supposed to be his entry into the group understanding him and the way he and his brain functions and embracing him and how Pierce was supposed to be just too out of touch of the present (because he'd grown up in a different time nad age and was unable to embrace the change that followed) and the way Shirley was supposed to be limited in a way to her character as a mother with anger issues and be very restrained with the group in a manner of speaking (i don't think I'm explaining it well but eh)

but then it formed, it breathed life into itself in the form that it took a life of its own, as if it doesn't really matter what it was supposed to be rather what it ended up being,,, and I understand that this is the way that shows work and the way plotlines and story arcs bring characters to different point in their lives but it feels different here (for me at least because this is the first time I've been able to look at a show in the way it was supposed to be and the way it ended up being and still love it so completely)

also it's very weird not hearing the community theme song in the first episode and just hearing bg music and I can't-

(also also I understand that there are things that it could have handled better but as a show I will never not love community and rave about it and love it with all my heart)

regardless I will always love this episode so much because If nothing else,, it is what started everything else :))

weird storytime and an abed analysis (abednalysis ?)

in s1e17, physical education, abed says that he didnt mind changing for other people because hes comfortable with who he is . a season later, in s2e19, critical film studies, he says instead that he doesnt like change . and now i realize what he really meant when he said that he didnt mind changing .

when i was younger, around 11-12, i would pretend to be other people online . more than five different separate identities in one discord server . because i wanted people to like me more . i made these alt accounts and assigned each one a personality, a different typing style, a reason for joining, a region, and a timezone . and for the most part, they were people who were nicer and just generally likeable . because im not someone who is any of those things . i am not a nice person . i dont even think im a good person . and god i am not likeable . at all .

so i played these characters . most of them only being active for short periods . i would have full back and forth conversations with these alt accounts to sell it . i had these weird insane elaborate plans . a 16 year old former drug user, lives in manitoba, somewhat parental . 13, california, liked minecraft and drawing -- completely different artstyle (and different software) too . etc .

i would let these accounts bake (make them and then not use them) so that it didnt seem suspicious with a brand new account joining the server . then i would spend a week making the account and forming a character to go with it, sometimes asking people to help me out . it was so fucking crazy . i was insane . might still be .

…yeah i probably still am .

i was such a better person on those different accounts . because i didnt know how to change on the inside, i just started over and over again . different account, new me . like i was experimenting with who i really wanted to be like . formulating the perfect person to act like when i finally decided that i wanted to become a better person .

i gave up eventually obviously . im not a tween anymore . i was a really weird tween . obviously . but i think about it a lot .

honestly i only went back to being myself because it was comfortable . i felt better being a fucking douche . and i still am a douche . im not a good person . i dont think ill ever be a "good person" . what the hell is a good person, anyways . all i know is that im fine with myself like this . even as much as i not-so-secretly hate myself, and deny it out of fear of seeming like an "edgy attention seeking loser" .

its not that abed doesnt mind change, he just doesnt mind changing the persona . he doesnt mind changing the person showing on the outside . a separate identity . but ultimately, he wouldnt ever fundamentally change as a person . because hes fine with who he is, even if other people might not like him for that . and i want to be like him . i want to be someone who is fine with who they are, even if that someone is a socially inept ass who learned tenth grade math at age ten but cant figure out when their own face is making a smile or not .
