You came into our lives weeks after we lost Ladybug, but I knew you were sent to mend our broken hearts. I still remember the first time we met. You were running happily all around, not a care in the world. Then I called out to you and you jumped right into my arms, snuggling close. . Today we said goodbye to you and I'm so torn up that you're no longer here. I'm going to miss the way you always blocked the gate in the morning just so I could spend a few extra minutes with you. Then I'd come home to your smiling face, tail wagging brightly as my car pulled into the driveway. . You could be such a brat, moving only a few steps at a time when I called you. But you were my brat. . You liked to sleep on all the nicest, softest things you could find. You were all bark and no bite. I still can't believe our mailman is afraid of a little Yorkie who didn't weigh more than 8 lbs. I liked to think your barks were always you saying hello, making new friends. . Thank you for taking naps with me on the couch, for snuggling up to me when I had a bad day, for being a source of laughter. Thank you for loving me so unconditionally day in and day out even when my days were so jam packed I barely got to see you. Thank you for wearing those frilly dress mom bought and being my gangsta hoodie dog. Thank you for then proceeding to get caught inside your hoodie. How does that even happen? You made it happen. . Please tell us a little about yourself, where you live and your family.  I'm a serial "momterpreneur", married to a techie investor entrepreneur. Our daughter Gigi is a 13 year old acting and singing sensation and we have a baby on the way. Yes, on purpose! We are excited to have an in-house nannie as Gigi is nuts for babies! We live just south of Old Town, so we enjoy all of the convenience of our beloved OT with none of the parking issues.

Tell us a little bit about your shop/business and how you came to create your store/business.  I used to design a women's shoe line, Gigi Favela, that was manufactured in Italy. After the small biz-killing crash of 2008, I dabbled in other things but yearned to use my design chops again. I got involved with J. Hilburn in 2012 as soon as I heard the words "custom," "Italian," and "menswear.” I joined the team as a rep the next day and embraced the challenge of building a clientele from scratch. I go to my client's with a measuring tape and fabrics, and design and deliver wardrobes that work for their lifestyles and physiques. It's a great business for DC, a town filled with men who hate to shop. I help them look good while saving them time and money.  

What is most important to you when working with clients?  I really enjoy the client education process and seeing my clients' taste evolve to embrace sartorial details they would never have considered before working with me. Learning a client's style and putting him in the right cuts and colors. Not imposing my own tastes on his wardrobe. A client needs to feel at ease while wearing it. Everything we design should be among his favorites and in heavy rotation.

What do you love most about your job? Working with a variety of clients across different industries, and leading my team of amazing stylists in building their own successful businesses.

If I’d asked you on kindergarten, what did you want to be when you grew up?  A librarian - I love the smell of books and the hushed atmosphere of many people reading!

What’s your favorite restaurant in ALX?  La Fontaine for brunch, Caphe Bahn Mi for quick and casual, and Magnolia on King for cocktails and southern cuisine.

Favorite outdoor activity in ALX?  The Dyke Marsh Trail off of the parkway trail near the marina is a local treasure, the perfect 30-minute nature break; I love to take my sport-size Yorkies for walks there.

Best kept secret in ALX?  Olivia Barnett's Positive Energy yoga classes, the stained glass windows and architecture of St. Mary's on Royal, and the Orange Chocolate Chocolate Chip ice cream at The Creamery down on King Street.

What have you scouted lately?  I love the men's accessories (great for gifting) at TSALT, the fun Pucci-inspired frocks from Alice &Trixie at Duchess M, and I just splurged on a gorgeous Lizzie Fortunato chunky necklace at The Hive.

How do you juggle owning a business and a family?  I'm fortunate in that my business is my own so I've chosen to keep it super flexible. We travel most of the summer and I collaborate with clients online and on the phone, so I'm able to work part time while enjoying my family and experiencing the wonderful wide world. When I'm in town, I only work client appointments three days a week, so I have the bandwidth to cook the occasional dinner and do the mommy errand shuffle. It's a nice gig!
