・Trixie always thought she was straight. That men were for her, and she was definitely for men.
・Dates upon dates, she thought she wooed them perfectly. And she had, she lived up to a mixture of this Marilyn Munroe cross Manic Pixie Daydream for them
・And yet, Trixie realised is was all a performance. Even when she was alone, she acted as if she had a male audience watching her every move
・Trixie always felt as though she had to be attractive, appealing, and beautiful.
・It was tiring, and it didn't feel right. But there wasn't anything she could do about it. Could she?
・But then little ol' you came along and stirred up so much inside of Trixie that she questioned her whole sexuality.
・Being with Trixie is like being with ... a pixie. She has so much light and excitement within her - it's infectious.
・You got together because Trixie had accidentally said she loved you after you nearly died. You had ran into a building that was on fire to save a child, and when Trixie found you afterwards, she cried her heart out, yelling and screaming about how she could lose you.
"I - I can't ... I wouldn't be able to live without you! If you weren't with me. I love you goddamnit!"
・You were in shock but had gently grasped her cheeks and kissed her lips.
・Trixie is a very doting partner. All she wants to do is make you smile.
・You both surprise each other with flowers. Filling your home with an array of colours and smells.
・She would still be a nurse, and you would follow her anywhere
・But Poplar was barely afloat, and you knew both your help was needed there
・You're great friends with Nurse Crane and Fred. Fred feels like such a father figure to you.
・You save up to buy Trixie luxurious items; she prefers quality over quantity.
・Obviously your relationship is kept as a secret, but those that live at Nonnatas have suspected but kept it to themselves. They're mostly just happy to see Trixie happy.
・If you have a night shift, Trixie will not go to bed until you come home. And if you don't come home at the usual time, she starts to panic.
・Loves when you rest your head in her lap. She strokes your hair and swirls her finger around your face, making you giggle.
・Always tells you she loves you; morning and night. Just to make sure that you know that in case something happens.
・You like to run a hot bath for her when she gets back from work; rose petals, candles, special bath oils. She can spend up to two hours in there.
・Trixie isn't really one to read, but she loves going with you to the library and book shops. She loves watching you flutter about the place, trying to find the perfect story

Every episode of Call the Midwife
Narrator: In Autumn, all souls feel the rot but the rot allows flowers to grow and spring will come again. The war absolutely hollowed out communities but also there was jam. Nonnatus house had nuns in it but they were cool nuns. As the weather turned, those in need were ever more vulnerable and we did what we could.
Trixie: I cannot fix this with rouge, Matthew *perky hair toss*
Sister Monica Joan: Aristotle had heard of glaucoma, why won't anybody listen to me, also I've sat on the swiss roll.
Sister Julienne: Nonnatus house may be repossessed/ demolished/ infested with weevils. Our future is uncertain, but damnit the women of Poplar need us.
The Irish One: I love coloured tights but also I've done the autoclave
Harrowing music begins as we watch an unwed teen mother/ man addicted to meth/ victim of some sort of domestic horror/ woman with pre-ecclampsia
Nurse Crane: There you go lass
Harrowing storyline is briefly featured again but also there's a pregnant dog in Nonnatus House.
Dr Turner: Let's give her Pethidine, also I'm progressive about (insert topical issue here)
Sister Julienne: Nonnatus House is a metaphor for the morals of this country and that's why we're going to the dogs
Random Nurse: Actually sister Julienne I think we should teach teenagers about contraception
Sister Monica Joan: We simply must have compline now
Compline and the harrowing storyline (which has now reached its apex through either a harrowing birth scene or some other medical procedure) are now interspersed in a way that is troublingly close to saying suffering is fine actually because Jesus.
Sheelagh: Oh Patrick
The harrowing storyline is now resolved, often with some more voiceover that references the vagaries of the turning world
Trixie: Matthew, I have solved it. And I have put on rouge. I can have it all except a consistent haircut.
Fred: The dog's had puppies, and this will save Nonnatus house.
Narrator: In the worst and dank places, in the creeping dread of the dark soil and the night loam, even as the rotting leaves seep in, there too is love and life. Also someone had a revelation. The end.

Do any other Americans sometimes watch Call the Midwife as an escapist fantasy of having free healthcare and a doctor that actually listens?

Shelagh's new glasses (13.1 & 2.1)
The differences between men and women or maybe just the inattentiveness of the Turner men!
Also Shelagh had the same glasses for 11 years
(the upswept frame 1958 - 1969)

For the first time in its history, Call the Midwife fans have a two-part Christmas special to look forward to ahead of new episodes in the New Year.
Rather than the traditional 90-minute instalment, the BBC has confirmed that there will be two 60-minute episodes, which will also include a Christmas cliffhanger.
"Who doesn't love finding an extra, unexpected present underneath the Christmas tree?" said creator and writer Heidi Thomas OBE.
"When I was asked to write a two-part Christmas special for 2024, I couldn't resist!"
Executive producer Dame Pippa Harris added: "For the first time, viewers can luxuriate in a two-part festive treat this Christmas. Heidi has created a spellbinding special which I know will delight our loyal fans."
Director of BBC Drama Lindsay Salt hailed Call the Midwife as "one of UK television's most popular festive traditions".
She continued: "And this year we wanted to go even better, with Call the Midwife's biggest Christmas ever!
"Heidi and the team have lined up an absolute treat, with two irresistible episodes packed full of everything fans will love about this very special series at Christmas time."
All of the "well-loved characters" will be back for the two-parter, which picks up in Christmas 1969.
The midwives are "all busy delivering babies and doing the job they are most dedicated and committed to", while Poplar also welcomes a funfair, which adds "a burst of colour and excitement to the frosty landscape".
But there will be challenges, including influenza and the Hong Kong flu, not to mention an escaped prisoner.
As the neighbourhood prepares for a carol concert, "fears grow that he may be in the local area after a spate of break-ins".
Elsewhere, "the Turner children are caught up in the fever surrounding the Blue Peter Christmas appeal to collect dinky cars and scrap metal, Trixie makes a fleeting visit to Nonnatus House and is delighted to see her brother Geoffrey, and Miss Higgins has her grandson Harry stay for Christmas".
Violet also has her hands full hosting a mince pie competition, "but the Buckles' preparations for Reggie’s homecoming are thrown into turmoil".

I used to find Trixie's AA meeting monologues awkward to watch because they seemed so scripted and calculated when compared to the rest of the show, but now I've embraced the interpretation that they are in fact very true to Trixie's character. Ever since she was a child she has had to be delightful and charming to make people smile; as an adult she finds it very important to be meticulously pretty and polished at all times. She wears a perfect full face of make up and fashionable outfits to those meetings; that's a part of her shield. Her speeches are peppered with vivid expressions and little jokes that make the other AA attendees chuckle; that's a part of her shield as well. She is being as real as she can and sharing as much as she can, but she can't let go of the coping mechanisms that have already become a part of who she is.

Why, as a collective, have we decided that regardless of the story, the time period and universe Shelagh and Trixie would be best friends. And yet Heidi Thomas refuses to give that to us…
Shelagh doesn’t really have anyone in her life that could be her ‘right hand person’, she has her husband, her children and Sr Julienne who is basically a mother figure but not anyone that she could call and ask to go for a walk or for a coffee.
A lot of series 1 we see Shelagh pining to be like the nurses, to go to the dances, wear fancy clothes and the way she lights up when she got to be part of the dating gossip of the nurses. But all of that disintegrates and she becomes ‘Dr Turner’s wife’.
We see Shelagh lean on the nurses a little when she’s getting married when they are helping her to get ready. And I wish we could have seen Trixie lean on Shelagh in the same way when she was marrying Matthew. We could have seen a real connection where Trixie was apprehensive about the marriage and Shelagh being the only one with the experience as she was in the same situation could have been such a special, poignant moment for the two of them.

ok so we're all in agreement that the way the show is handling trixie and matthew's storyline is complete shite right?
#call the midwife#call the midwife series 13#don't usually like putting negativity in tags but.... i am seriously so frustrated by this lol#not only does it just... not make sense with EITHER characters#it also just feels like a totally lazy way to add drama...#like there's totally a way they could have added a money-issues storyline that could have been really interesting!#but pointless miscommunication? matthew being a chauvinistic dickhead? trixie have barely any of her own agency??? nah nah#fuck that lol#also looks like they're going to make her return to alcoholism in the finale which is completely annoying#like there were whole SERIES dedicated to her getting help with it!!#and it was amazing! it was one of the few times i've seen alcoholism depicted with such care on screen PARTICULARLY w/ a female character#uguhughuu idk#i'm just ranting here soz lol#and like ctm has made some very strange choices in terms of characters and plotlines in the past#but this one really feels like it's taking the piss imo lol...

I am the daughter of a man who drank. I am the daughter of a man who fought in a war. I heard him yelling at night. And I saw him crying. But I knew how to make him smile. I knew how to make him better. And there are only two things that could do that. Me. And a bottle of Scotch. I became a nurse. And a midwife. I was needed. And I needed them. Because every time I delivered a baby… .. I was right in the heart of a happy family for one or two hours. No matter that I always have to go home on my own. No matter that… the one thing that makes me feel better… is a glass of Scotch. Or something like it. There are so many things like it. Looking back… .. it seems to me my father was quite unadventurous. Do I have to say it now? My name is Beatrix. But people call me Trixie. And I am an alcoholic.

Nigel (the cat)
Poor Nigel doesn't even get the correct credit...
However, Nigel knows that when Cyril says newcomers what he really means is a certain furry feline.
At least Nigel's human Cyril knows the correct order of things...
And the appropriate feline requirements.
Nigel is happily doing cat stuff...
When he has a close encounter with learner driver Trixie...
Thankfully Nigel has had plenty of dealings with Mrs Wallace and is used to being challenged.
Well said Nigel.
