when we lose another sibling
CONTENT WARNING: death. proceed with care and be kind to yourself.
when we lose another sibling
(and we surely will),
i want you to go outside
and cry
and cry
and cry
and cry.
when we lose another sibling
i want you to scream
at the top of your lungs:
THEY DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE.
when we lose another sibling
i want you to shout yourself hoarse
at this vast
indifferent abyss:
IT DID NOT HAVE TO BE LIKE THIS.
when we lose another sibling
i want you to gather flowers
and palm fronds
and fill the street with mourning.
when we lose another sibling
i want you to say their names.
when we lose another sibling
i want you to give the world
a warning:
THINGS WILL NOT BE THE SAME.
----------------------------------------------------------
SAY THEIR NAMES.
Over the past year, these trans and nonbinary people died under violent circumstances in the United States.

2024 Red Sox and thank goodness the Dodgers beat the Skanks
Mookie Betts knocking in the game-winning run, even in a Dodgers uniform, made me very happy. The Yankees looking like they should've had Yakkity Sax from Benny Hill playing behind their error-laden disastrous top of the fifth also made me very happy. If you are going to have the two richest teams in baseball fighting it out for the World Series, then at least the one I hate less won. And I don't really hate the Dodgers. I could never hate Dave Roberts or Mookie Betts. I even have a fondness for Kiké Hernandez's brief time at Boston. Anyway. I am delighted the Dodgers won and, as always, fuck the Skanks.
It also provides a bit of comfort that the Sox performed admirably against both World Series teams this year. They didn't dominate, but they didn't roll over and die either. Which I think is my takeaway on the season as a whole. We didn't roll over and die. I would have liked a winning record but will totally take .500 considering how low the lows were (and how low the pundits put us at the beginning of the season).
Speaking of lows, I might as well get those out of the way first. We were diabolical on the field. Our unearned run totals looked as though we were the Skanks in the top of the fifth in game 5 almost every day. Those were so decisive at the beginning of the season I'm sure they ended up keeping us out of the Wild Card. Yeah, it's a young team, but oof. It was painful to watch. And to have to watch it so frequently was brutal.
We struck out A LOT. We did not walk very much. On the 20th anniversary of The Comeback, seeing the incredible level of plate discipline and willingness to lay off bad pitches, it was tough to see a Sox lineup so free swinging and impatient. It also led to struggles with runners in scoring position and getting runners into scoring position. Anyway. That was grim.
Jarren Duran never really felt contrite for the homophobic slur he used. It undermined my ability to cheer for him for the rest of the season and left me downcast that he was the problem but actually indicative of the unreconstructed atmosphere of the clubhouse and perhaps even the nature of the whole of Major League Baseball. Which is a fucking bummer in this day and age.
That all said, the 2024 Red Sox could be so much fun to watch. The avalanche of injuries at the beginning of the season, instead of burying them, allowed a young, exciting, not-terribly-disciplined group of players keep us on the edge of our seats.
The rotation and bullpen at the beginning of the season were lights out when we were on the ropes.
Wilyer Abreu and Ceddanne Rafaela were so much fun to watch. Except when they were striking out.
We signed Rich Hill! Pride of Medford!
This team gave us way more hope than any of us ever expected. They were three games up for the Wild Card at the All Star Break.
Connor Wong was fun. Most athletic catcher since Joe Mauer?
Dom Smith was such an appreciated addition whilst Tristan Casas was recovering from his injury. One of the lone veterans on a super young team.
Tanner Houck, anti-vaxxer though he may be, grew into a solid ace.
We extended Alex Cora who managed a hell of a season with almost no help from upstairs (ownership/senior management, not god).
I'm not sure what the future holds. FSG and John Henry seem to still be chasing the illusion of a chasing championships whilst not spending any fucking money, which I don't think is going to work. But this last season gave us some good baseball. I want the Red Sox to play good baseball. I'd like them to play MORE good baseball in 2025. Winning record and playoffs. Let's do this.

You know something's a problem when the Illuminati, Templars, and Dragon work together to deal with it. And yet, this unlikely scenario is exactly what's happening as Tristan d'Eagan (Illuminati), Alexandra Bishop (Templar), and Carlos Hernandez (Dragon) find themselves driving down a dark desert highway and pulling up to an infamous hotel...
Daunting as the prospect of dealing with the spectral glue trap that is the Hotel California is, however, Carlos packed a secret weapon.
(A short Secret World Legends comic that I've been meaning to do for a while, finally made real as a bit of gift art for @paint-lady , with a hefty cameo from her character, Maru. Done in Photoshop.)

UFC Fight Night: Pereira vs. Hernandez is basically the last Apex card for a long time as the UFC is closing the Apex to for renovations. From the sounds of it, they're going to be putting in space for a crowd of a few hundred to a thousand people.
In complete opposite of the other Apex dreck they've put out, I actually like this card. Pereira vs Hernandez is a fun fight between two guys who have been tearing up the lower levels of the middleweight division. Pereira moved up from welterweight and immediately turned into an explosive KO artist who is destroying fighters inside of like 2 minutes. Hernandez has been finishing everyone they put him in there with over his six fight win streak and is incredibly reminiscent to a fighter like Tristan Connelly, the undersized LW who gave Pereira his first loss in the UFC when he was still the flippy capoeira guy. Extremely compelling match up that will tell us a lot about the limitations of both fighters.
Kyler Phillips vs Rob Font is fun. Font is very much past it, but historically Phillips is not the type of guy who beats him. When Font loses, it tends to come off of big moments where he gets hurt extremely badly and can't really recover. That said, Figs was able to scare him off throwing his jab which is his money punch. A fighter like Phillips is capable of scoring big offense, even if he isn't a big finisher. It'll be interesting to see if Font is able to win wide stretches of this match up without giving up big moments.
Charles Johnson might have dumb opinions about UFC vs non-UFC fighters, but he's a solid flyweight and has finally managed to find consistency after a rough stretch. 3 straight wins, all showing off some good boxing skills. Now he draws Sumudaerji, who is a terrible grappler but a BIG puncher at flyweight. Two tall swanging flyweights. Should be a good fight.
Can't say too much about Brady Hiestand vs Jake Hadley, because while I'm sure I've seen Hiestand fight - I just don't remember him. That said, he's beaten fighters I have seen and Hadley is fun when he isn't held on his back.
Daniel Pineda vs Darren Elkins is the exact type of "old guys, what are we still doing here?" fight I love. Two 40 year old damage sponges still managing to pick up wins off their durability and ability to storm back to deliver violence. Something has to give.
I like Asu Almabayev. I feel like I'm the only person who isn't from Kazakhstan that likes him. I don't find his wrestle heavy game boring because man is tank. Seeing him throw around Jose Johnson was cool. And if he manages to that to someone like Matheus Nicolau, then he is an instant contender. This has stinker potential, but I'm fascinated by the match up.
Bantamweight has a tradition of triple A fighters (shouts to @thesportssoundoff for the phrase). Guys who are clearly too good for the regional scene but get to the UFC and just start losing fights - Luke Sanders, Andre Soukhamthath, Terrion Ware, etc. Guys with fatal flaws or shortcomings that just held them back from finding success. Brad Katona seems like one of those guys. He is a very technically sound all terrain fighter. But he seems to lack the horsepower to compete with these guys at 135lbs. That's why i like this fight with Jean Matsumoto, a very good grappler who will be tested on how adaptable his game is.
I still have hope for Melissa Martinez as a prospect. She's got a very fun game and I hope this fight with Alice Ardelean is a launching point for her. Especially not that it looks like Yazmin Jauregui isn't making a run up the rankings.
Also Robelis Despaigne vs Austen Lane is the exact type of stupid fight that will last 15 seconds or go 15 minutes after both guys get tired after 15 seconds. And I'm here for that as long as it's early in the night.

Since I started by explaining more general things, now I'm going to explain the Paranormal Order and the teams! Maybe a little bit of the characters
So, Ordem Paranormal means Paranormal Order, but the official name inside the lore is Ordo Realitas and its a big and secret organization with headquarters in Brazil.
The agents are divided in teams and usually they are always together to fight the paranormal.
Equipe Aniquiladores: The oldest team! The members include Senhor Veríssimo (a NPC, the Order leader), Aaron (NPC, a mysterious sniper), Balu (Played by Calango, funny guy), Arnaldo Fritz (sometimes a npc, sometimes played by Rakin, a famous actor), Chizue Akechi (a NPC, uses Katanas) and some other unknow people, now inactive;
Equipe Veterana de Varredura: Balu, Arnaldo Fritz, Johnny Tabasco (played by Alanzoka, really impulsive) and Luciano Carvalho (played by LJoga, a former military), now inactive;
Equipe Brasa: Erin Parker (played by Kalera, heavy inspired by Jinx from League of Legends), Fernando Carvalho (also played by LJoga, Luciano's husband), Luciano Carvalho and Tristan Monteiro (NPC, funny flirty guy), now inactive;
Equipe Iniciante de Varredura: The first team to be presented in the series! Its members are Alexsander Kothe (played by LJoga, a history teacher), Daniel Hartmann (played by Luba, a writer), Elizabeth Webber (played by Bagi, a medical doctor and forensic scientist) and Thiago Fritz (played by Rakin, Arnaldo's son), now inactive;
Equipe Veterana: Arnaldo Fritz, Chizue Akechi, Cristopher Cohen (played by LJoga), Francisca Parker (NPC, Erin's grandmother) and Senhor Veríssimo, now inactive;
Equipe E: Second season team! Arthur Cervero (played by Guaxinim, handsome and cute guy), Cesar Oliveira Cohen (Played by Calango, nerd and Cristopher's son), Elizabeth Webber, Joui Jouki (played by Luba, gymnast), Thiago Fritz, now inactive;
Equipe Kelvin: Kenan Thomas (played by Leo Santi), Mariana Carona (played by Bagi), Miguel Cariad (initially played by Calango, later he became a NPC), now inactive;
Equipe D: Third season team! Arthur Cervero, Beatrice Portinari (played by Triz Pariz, has a cool bird), Dante (played by Rakin, an ocultist), Elizabeth Webber, Erin Parker, Fernando Carvalho, Joui Jouki, Kaiser (Cesar Oliveira after some traumas), Luciano Carvalho, Orpheu (the cool bird!) and Tristan Monteiro, now inactive;
Dragões Metálicos: A metal band inspired by Metallica, they're all NPCs! Kurt Hemmis, Leandro Hans, Marcos Front and Roberto Lutrijo, now inactive;
Equipe Espiãs: Team inspired by Totally Spies, they're all NPCs! Alexia Grifo, Clarissa Leão and Samantha Hale, now inactive;
Dupla Johnny e Rubens: Johnny Tabasco and Rubens Naluti (played by Felps, a silly little guy), now inactive;
Equipe Abutres: Balu, Arthur Cervero, Carina Leone (played by Bagi, italian mafia girl), Dante, Joui Jouki and Rubens Naluti, still active;
Equipe Delta: NPC only team: Jiro Yukami, Naomi Akechi and Olivia Lefleur, still active;
Dupla Cavalcante e Wanderley: Cavalcante Bueno (a NPC) and Wanderley Nascimento (played by Rakin)
And also theres teams from another countries or without any contact with the Order:
Hell Hunters: Ex members from SWAT, their headquarters are in Texas, United States, all the members are NPCs. Arnold Strolley, Chloe Grey, Jason Bloom, Karen Brown, Miguel Hernandez, Roy Stevens, Ryder States, Stella Green and Troy Walker;
Obscurité: A french team of anarchists who lives in Paris' Catacombs, almost all of them are NPCs. Bernadette Leroy, Cartier Dubois, Delano Martin, Désirée Menet, Dominic Sy Pierre (played by Abelha), Emmanuelle Adrien, Lorraine Orleans, Marc Menet, Margot Renaud, Maxime Auclair, Oriel Renaud and Yuki Saito (played by Kalera);
Família Leone: Italian mafia, almost all NPCs. Alfredo Leone, Alonzo Leone, Ângela Leone, Antonella Leone, Brando Leone, Carla Leone, Carina Leone, Chiara Leone, Dario Leone, Enzo Leone, Fabrizio Leone, Giuseppe Leone, Lorenzo Leone, Marco Leone, Patrizia Leone and Roberta Leone;
Os Cinco: Team kinda based on Scooby-Doo and in sci-fi 90' movies. Xande (played by Guaxinim, impulsive and cool guy), Dara Venturini (played by Carol, team's support), Chico (played by LJoga), Guizo (played by Felps), Lírio Tellini (played by Gary, he's THE WALL), Morato Vertaler (NPC) and Voytek Nowak (NPC).
