Wednesday: The fear of the number thirteen.

Enid: 😯

Enid: Whoa. That is kinda inconsistent.

Wednesday: Now then, Uncle Fester should be arriving at any moment with a semi full of stray black cats. Remember to herd them in front of people. I’ll take care of the mirrors.

Enid: Okay babe, but like, for not being a fan Friday the Thirteenth, you sure do go all out for it.

Wednesday: *sniffs* One need not necessarily approve of a holiday to enjoy it.

The two pause as Xavier’s distant shrieking is abruptly cut off by the screech of brakes and the sound of metal impacting whiny artist.

Wednesday: What luck. That’s Uncle Fester now. Shall we?

Enid: Sure thing! And by the way, happy Friday the Thirteenth, babycakes.

Wednesday: *snorts* A miserable Friday the Thirteenth to you as well, mi corazón.

Enid slips on a pair of noise-cancelling headphones and links pinkies with Wednesday. Together they head for the accident parked semi, leaving a wake of shattered glass as a yowling black tide of cats floods the streets of Jericho.

Membeli buku ini di bulan Februari dan baru menyelesaikannya di bulan April. Wow, butuh tiga bulan untuk merampungkannya! Dan di tengah tahun ini, saya baru tergerak me-review-nya dan bingung sendiri karena sudah tidak terlalu ingat detailnya.

Yang saya ingat adalah... Novel ini sangat eksperimental. Baik dalam hal gaya bercerita, plot, karakteristik, dan tentu saja, tema cerita! Faktor utama kenapa saya tertarik untuk membaca novel ini adalah karena Mbak Triska mengangkat matematika menjadi topik utama. Memang menyatu dengan cerita, bukan tempelan.

Membaca novel ini, kita diajak mengikuti kehidupan Prima, Sekar, Tarsa, dan Mantisa yang saling berkaitan dan mencoba memecahkan misteri. Baik itu misteri hidup, maupun misteri matematika (dengan segala rumusnya!).

Yang membuat saya lama membacanya mungkin karena faktor eksperimental itu sendiri. Salah satunya gaya bahasanya. Dalam Buku Panduan Matematika Terapan ini, penulis menggunakan banyak diksi yang tidak umum dan memang harus membuka kamus agar mengerti artinya. Meski begitu, dengan keunikan ceritanya, BPMT ini patut kamu coba.

Buku ini saya rekomendasikan untuk kamu yang suka cerita eksperimental!
