Lots of yelling about Scar "accidentally" spoiling the next Life series "Hard Life" on his stream but after seeing Grian and Scar purposely "play dumb" on Tango's stream and then Grian's episode I'm not 100% convinced it wasn't planned.

I wouldn't put it past this man to purposefully troll us all by popping that server onto his screen to just drive us crazy cuz he can be just that clever.

But we all also know he can also be just that forgetful too! And I love him for this duality ❤️

Hi omg!! I'm totally gonna ramble about my concept now because its so fun to think about. Its so good to see other Wynn players in the Life Series tags :D

Yeah, me and a friend have been fixated on Wynn for a bit so it's been buzzing around my mind. Since Martyn is already a cameo character (old man Martyn), I've been thinking about it so much. Also, yknow, Grian being a founder of the server. My premise for the AU was Renchanting based. Ren is a respected Paladin of the Ragni army trying to fix the corruption in the Wynn plains and Martyn, an assassin from Nesaak is like. hey. you know that old wizard that got corrupted? Yeah, yeah, I want to undo the damage he did. Let me prove I'm a good adventurer. Let me undo some damage. And Ren is obviously like "okay, dude, tag along anyway, I'm all for it". I think they'd probably meet some other people along the way, make the Renchanting group a guild and such. For the other members: Etho would be a Riftwalker Mage, Skizz would probably (??) be an Acolyte Skyseeker, BigB would be an Archer (maybe Sharpshooter?) and Impulse would probably be some kind of Knight too. If Tango were in it then he'd be a Fallen Warrior because of the damage boosts.

The version I know was that instead of the Sky People, it was the Night People, and the the chief, was Nass Shaak Aankáawu (Nobleman at the Head of the Nass River). Some versions say some type of tree needle and others don’t, but he transformed, was swallowed, and was born a human child. Nass Shaak Aankáawu loved him dearly, and he could to stand Raven crying, so he would eventually cede a bentwood box to him. First: the small box of stars, then the Moon, and finally the Box of Daylight. Then, upon completing his goal, he left.

But beside that story, there are many more, and they are all great. I’m mainly just gonna use the dynamics and their characteristics.

hey block people fans, so I really love the Tanuki Joel/Smallishbeans fanart goin around as inspired by @mellozheist's design and it made me think, what youkai (Japanese folklore monsters) would we portray the other Hermitcraft/Life Series members as? Some of the more obvious and fun ideas I thought of:

Scar - Kitsune, easy. Charismatic, cunning wiles, enterprising, known for tricking people, tendency to be wet cat on the rare instance you find his weakness. Also kitsune are rivals to tanuki (although Scar and Joel aren't really rivals so much as occasional partners in crime). You could alternatively choose the bakeneko because it's also a wiley shapeshifter and cat connection (RIP Jellie).

Grian - Tengu, also easy choice. Not just for the obvious pesky bird connection. Tengu are also trickster beings. They are sometimes evil (abducting humans) but sometimes benign and teach humans secret arts. They are excellent fighters and leaders, but just like a regular crow, they can just as easily goof off for no reason at all. Dangerously capable but also goofy bird fits Grian to a T.

Mumbo - Kappa, maybe? He's not associated with water much iirc but the kappa from not iRL folklore but a certain series are associated with engineering, and I needed an appropriate one for the Redstoners lol

Etho - Kamaitachi. Weasel with sharp blades. Like a tanuki (Joel), but consistently sneaky, while also being just a little guy. Can probably team up with Skizzle and Tango for the traditional trio of sneaky people with sharp blades. EDIT: I know there's fanart of him as a kitsune to match Tanuki Joel, and I'm by no means contesting that, this is just a fun alternative.

Cleo - Yamauba/Yamanba. I'M NOT CALLING CLEO AN OLD HAG, LET ME EXPLAIN. DANGEROUSLY FIERCE AND INTELLIGENT WITCH WHO LIVES IN THE MOUNTAINS AND IS JUST AS PROTECTIVE OF HER (potentially foster) CHILDREN AS MUCH AS SHE IS A TERROR TO THOSE WHO CROSS HER.

Bdubs/Skizzleman - Oni. They beeg. They angery. They not necessarily dumb but they stronk and one of them has lived in the mountains at least once. I can even see Bdubs being like a Sakata Kintoki spoof (the "son" of a yamanba a.k.a Cleo)

Jimmy - Yosuzume. Birds of bad luck. Canary curse. Need I explain more?

feel free to give alternative suggestions or ideas for the others, or ask me what youkai I think might fit certain traits, I may not know much about the block people but I know a little too much about Japanese folklore so this is just a fun exercise for me

I'm so insane about Ren.

Ren feeling dishonorable after his kill on Impulse and deciding that, since Ren is an honorable person, he couldn't be responsible for something that feels dishonorable. Ren deciding it's Grian's fault, because Ren likes to think he wouldn't have killed Impulse on his own.

Ren making up multiple excuses, any excuse he can, to make killing Grian sound honorable, and to convince as many people as possible. Grian's the monster they point their swords at, the trickster, the tempting voice lying in the shadows, driving them to evil. Ren can regain his honor lost during one kill with another.

Ren valuing his own honor to the point where he can't accept his own capacity to do wrong, painting a boogeyman where there isn't one. Because Ren would never have done something so dishonorable on his own.

But despite it all, Ren's still the one who came to The Spanners, suggesting the kill, and Ren's still the one who took Impulse's head.

joe weird vs grian weird is like. okay, so if they were both trickster fae in an old fairytale they would both dress up as an old person in need on the side of the road to test people’s morals or whatever

Except Joe is doing it to reward good hearted people and if you don’t stop to help him then, nothing happens. you go about your day none the wiser. Whereas Grian is doing it mainly to steal firstborn children or maybe offload some cursed jewelry he happens to have

ok listen this one is easy. grian is NOT a sexyman!!! I love grian. he is an impish little trickster bird man builder and that is fantastic but QUACKITY is a SEXYMAN. have you seen the TEETH people give him??? the eye scar he got from a PICKAX???? in CANON he is lusted after. he canonically has an ASS. LOOK AT THAT FACE. ITS 7 PIXELS. if that is not enough, here is his progression as a character:

starts out wide-eyed and trying to stand up against injustice

in doing so aligns himself with a dictator he ends up marrying

upon realizing that the dictator doesn’t respect him and is only after his body, divorces, kills, and betrays him

later coerces a child ruler into running an execution campaign against the strongest warrior on the server for his own revenge

corners and confronts said warrior at his weakest and STILL can’t win against him, ends up getting HIS EYE TAKEN OUT BY A PICKAX

tries to find happiness by getting engaged in a three-way all gay polycule

builds an entire nation for his fiancés and ends up abandoned by them

(his nation is modeled after las vegas. he runs casinos, bars, strip clubs etc. he’s literally trying to gain power through debt, seduction, and addiction)

(running this nation doesn’t give him anything he wants. he doesn’t gain power in any meaningful way. the people he loves have abandoned him. he gamboled and lost.)

tortures the most dangerous guy on the server at his most helpless because it finally gives him a sense of power and control

said guy never gives him what he wants. ends up escaping.

listen I never actually finished his lore but MY MAN’S ENTIRE CHARACTER IS THAT AS SOON AS HE LEARNS THAT THERE IS NO JUSTICE, ONLY POWER, HE KEEPS GRABBING FOR IT IN AN ATTEMPT TO FIND LOVE, SECURITY, AND HAPPINESS AND GETS BEATEN DOWN AGAIN AND AGAIN ONLY TO DRAG HIMSELF BACK A LITTLE MORE HOLLOW AND BLOODTHIRSTY THAN THE LAST TIME

he eats his dead husband’s heart.
