I only have two tattoos at this time, but I'm not done gettin them. My first is the Zia sun, it symbolizes the Circle of Life: four winds, four seasons, four directions, and four sacred obligations. The circle binds the four elements of four together. I got it when one of my best friends and I took a road trip to New Mexico. We both got the Zia sun, and were even given a blessing by a member of the Pueblo community (it is apparently bad juju to use this symbol without permission of the Pueblo people).

My second is a honeybee. One of my nicknames from my family for me is Honeybee. I wanted to include triangles with my piece and a local artist put this beauty together for me. I love looking st it 🤩🤩🤩

Dinner Talk

On a weekend field-trip dinner, I sat at a table with the three geology professors leading it (including John Brady), who also happen to be long time friends who have collaborated on many research projects and worked on geological problems together for decades. They had a conversation that goes something like this:

Geologist 1 (JTC): “I have a Ternary Diagram for Life! There’s FUN at one end, WORK at another, and LOVE on the last one. Your life path starts in one part of the diagram – your ‘personal bulk composition’ – and you follow the saturation surface down to the eutectic point” with time.

John Brady: “Oh, but wait – It’s us! Jack, Frank, John at each corner… it’s a Love Triangle!”

Geologist 1 (JTC): “No, it’s a Threesome!”

Geologist 2 (FSS): “A Ménage à Trois!”

Me: sitting back, drinking my beer in silence and enjoying a good interior laugh.
