OC Mundane Tag Game
Tagged again by @accidental-spice--thanks for the tag!
Rules: Pick an OC you'd like to talk about and answer the questions for them! Then tag ten people, or as many as you can. 'Underdeveloped character I adopted' is fine, too! Absolutely no pressure to play, though
Also, if some of it can't apply to your OCs, just answer what would be the answer-- like if they're in a historical setting, they likely can't watch movies, but what is a movie they'd like?
(Also, most people have many ocs, so feel free to retag people and answer as many times as you get tagged! Or get really wild and just answer for as many ocs as you'd like! :D)
Since I talked about Ace last time, it's only fair that I talk about Joker :D
1. What is their favorite movie?
I feel like Joker's taste in movies is pretty eclectic (especially as she has all of time and space to draw on!), but the first thing that came to mind was White Christmas (the dance numbers!) and Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief (she idolizes Grace Kelly). I do associate her quite a bit with that classic Hollywood era, but I find I haven't actually watched a ton of them? If anyone has suggestions, I will gladly take them.
2. What is their favorite season?
Most definitely spring--beauty, rebirth, gorgeous flowers, etc etc. Actually, Ace's favorite being winter and hers being spring is pretty fitting, now that I think about it.
3. What do they find annoying?
People with a lack of imagination, when people don't appreciate things she's enthusiastic about, when she can't find the perfect outfit, bad hair days.
4. How would they like to spend their Christmas or equivalent holiday?
She really would love anything as long as she's not celebrating alone--she has done some pretty spectacular things on her hundreds of Christmases past (sneaking into one of Queen Victoria's Christmas parties, going ice skating on a planet of ice palaces, visiting the Christmas Theme Park that Australia built on the moon in 3489 that only lasted a year (turns out it was because of her, actually), but she mostly does these sorts of things to distract herself from how lonely she is, as Christmas is a pretty family-oriented holiday and that's when she feels it most acutely. Needless to say, her Christmases become much lovelier with Ace around.
5. Do they play an instrument? If so, what? How good are they at it?
I imagine she's probably collected almost every instrument imaginable, and can at least make most of them make sound, but she only really plays acoustic guitar (specifically really finger-plucky stuff) and probably a bit of piano. She also sings, and unlike Ace, has no qualms about doing so whenever the mood strikes. And sometimes it strikes at odd times.
6. What's their favorite meal to eat?
Ooh, this one is hard. I feel like she would be one to be constantly excited about trying different kinds of food--but as for a favorite of hers, the first thing that comes to mind is tiramisu for some reason. There is also always a hot pot of tea in her TARDIS without exception.
7. Do they have a favorite video game or board game?
Joker does strike me as a video game girl--I can see her being a Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts fan (and unlike all of us, she actually has the time on her hands to play every Final Fantasy game, lol). As for board games, I think she would probably like Life, as well as some of those newer fantasy games with a ton of worldbuilding like Scythe. Of course, she probably never played them much up until she met Ace, as playing board games against an AI avatar gets boring very fast. She's also so bad at chess that the first time she played with Ace, he was dead convinced that she had let him win.
8. Do they celebrate their birthday?
Poor Joker is an amnesiac--she has no memory of who she is or where she came from, and only knows the simple fact that she is a Time Lord, and her first memory was floating in the vacuum of space-time as a child in her TARDIS. (I'm not even sure that she knows about the Time War. It's difficult to believe that she wouldn't have heard about it after so much time, so she probably knows...?) Thus she has no idea when her birthday is, so she just picked a random day and celebrated it in much the same fashion as she does Christmas. After she meets Ace, she usually convinces him to take her out dancing (which, to his credit, doesn't usually take too much persuading).
9. What's their bedtime routine?
Do Time Lords sleep? I've been getting conflicting answers about this. I'm gonna go with "sometimes," and in those cases, pretty nightdress, cup of tea, usually plays music.
10. What's an OC (or canon character) they like to spend time around? What do they tend to do together?
Ace is the first person she has ever truly connected with beyond the surface-level, despite their very disparate personalities. I don't want to give too much away too early, but what I will say is that initially, Joker views Ace a little bit like a project, and he views her as a character stepped straight out of a fairy story who is too otherworldly to be real and must have some secret agenda for bringing him with her, and thus distrusts her, but they slowly but surely overcome this rockiness. She sees something in Ace that he refuses to see in himself—but I really can’t say more without spoiling things. Joker is very verbally affectionate, often referring to Ace as “my Ace” or “darling.” He makes a very noble effort to hide how flustered he is by this.
As for what they do together, they of course have their time-traveling adventures (and sometimes run into the Doctor and his companions). I'd say they're a bit more like tourists than the Doctor and Rose are, they tend to go to different times and places with the intent of exploring and sightseeing and their adventures are rarely, if ever, premeditated. Also, as I mentioned earlier, they love to go out dancing--the Doctor and Rose are half-convinced that they're just on a dance tour of the universe, as 50% of the time they run into them, they're checking out the local social dancing scene.
Also, I mentioned this in my post about Ace, but Joker loves introducing him to movies, tv shows, music, and other kinds of media that he missed out on in his time. In return, Ace reads aloud to her a lot--it sort of began out of his frustration that she constantly leaves half-read books around and forgets to finish them, but then it just kind of became a habit.
Tagging @o-lei-o-lai-o-lord @rainintheevening @novelmonger @mythicalartisttm and anyone else who has oc's they'd like to talk about!
#but exactly how and in what way does joker care about ace? that's for her to know and him to be too nervous to find out#also i know most of the time the doctor doesn't go LOOKING for trouble it's just his idea of tourism is 'lets go watch the world explode du#to heat death' sometimes and joker's is 'lets go try the first tiramisu in Treviso' you know?#sometimes the Doctor really is just trying to go to a concert and ends up having to protect Queen Victoria from werewolves though. poor man#don't worry they still get into plenty of Situations#joker and ace

So I'm on a bit of a roll from just having finished some writing (probably post in the next day or two), so have some random thoughts!
Legit can't remember whether or not your linguistic analysis of Bildad the Shuhite touched on 'cobbler' as Cockney rhyming slang for either testicles (as in 'kick in the...') or nonsense (as in 'load of old cobblers') -- the latter meaning especially feels kind of appropriate!
What kind of 'madeleine memories' might an amnesiac Aziraphale get from a roast beef sandwich???
Do you think actual madeleines are likely to appear on screen in some capacity in S3?
Tiramisu has coffee, chocolate and alcohol, and thus feels like a VERY Ineffable-Husbands-speak dessert :D
Was poking around the Royal Albert Hall website for research purposes and found this: https://www.royalalberthall.com/tickets/tours-and-exhibitions/afternoon-tea/ Not quite as hyper-fancy as the Ritz, perhaps, but lots of little bits of Ineffable-speak meaningfulness in the food as well as being potentially a lovely little engagement celebration date???
Ehehehe
Hi, luv. Looking forward to reading your new writing! So many goodies to ponder here! 😍I actually have some madeleines today. And good coffee. It's raining here and ah, this is all a heavenly combination. 😊 Throwing this under a cut because your mention of tiramisu led me to write about two, related words in Ineffable Husbands Speak that I've noticed repeated: might and found...
We'll do the sea ties to insinuate while we're at it... 🐟
1- Cobbler: I need to do a whole thing on cobbler actually and will add & credit the findings you shared to you. I mainly just wanted to quickly make a post about how cobbler connects to sherry but there's actually a whole web of overlapping words they're using. It also ties to the root kob-- which quite literally means "good omens." 😊 I'll put a longer post on cobbler on the list.
2- Roast beef sandwich madeleine memories?:
*Bildad voice* You tell me... 😉
3- Madeleines on screen in S3?: I'm not expecting it but it would be fun. Would actually also go with the theme of the literal-and-the-figurative, especially with the food, so I guess it might actually be more likely than some other things. I mainly just want Aziraphale to eat something because he had a sherry and a couple of sips of tea in the present in S2 and that's why everything went sideways, really. That angel needs a sandwich in the worst way and in both ways that you can read that sentence.
4- Tiramisu: Yes. It actually also has one of my favorite meanings for any food, as it means a "pick-me-up" in Italian, which is very cute, no? It is very Ineffable Husbands-y for the reasons you mentioned and now you've got me going on about a word that we haven't heard them say lol but I can connect it to two words that they have said, so...
Tiramisu (originally from "tireme su") is thought to have been invented by the owner of a brothel in Treviso sometime around 1800. This innovative Mrs. Sandwich would offer it to clients as an aphrodisiac or as an after-treat and it was basically considered the Viagra of the 1800s in Italy. Coffee, alcohol, chocolate, as you pointed out... food + seamstressing = no way this isn't an Ineffable Husbands Speak thing.
It is perishable, as we know, and it was invented in a time before mainstream refrigeration so it originally wasn't as available outside of bigger cities, which is why it was often offered at the end of a client session as well, before the clients were sent home-- yeah, medicinal tiramisu was a thing. 😲 The actual origins of the dessert apparently weren't really discussed publicly until sometime around the 1980s as, once it became easier to keep things chilled, generations of Italian ladies were making tiramisu constantly and it got a bit awkward to acknowledge that all these adorable old nonnas for generations were passing down how to make this sexy dessert that was created in the first place by a lady bordello owner for, um, reasons...
But tiramisu would, by The Ineffable Husbands' wordplay rules, mix the origins and meanings of the word with its phonetic soundings in English and, as we've seen, French... so, it would also be spoken as: "tier a me sous."
A tier is an arrangement of things in an order and, also, in keeping with our amusing seamstressing origins of the dessert, rows of overlapping trim on a dress. Sous (the last s is silent) means under and/or below in French. In that way, expressing a desire for some tiramisu is expressing a desire for a tier in which you are sous your partner.
[Sidebar but this is reminding me that the sous vide style of cooking translates literally from French as "under/below the vacuum" and... I feel like Crowley does not have the willpower to have never not connected this to Mr. Brown of Brown's World of Carpets in some way 😂... *doesn't look up from his book* "Oh, the Whickber Street Monthly Whatzit's getting takeaway? Gonna get the sous vide chicken this time, angel?"]
Tiramisu means a "pick me up"-- a mood-booster-- but "pick me up" is also obviously both tongue-in-cheek expression of wanting to be seduced and a request to be quite literally picked up, as in lifted off the floor... which is how you know that tiramisu is likely a dessert that Crowley thinks is the tops.
Since we're taking apart a word not in the series, I'll give you two others that tie to it that on their little vocab list: might and found.
There are at least two scenes that I've noticed so far where one of them is using the word might as innuendo in reference to Aziraphale. Might falls into the category of words like wily, thwart, smitten, etc..-- words that are amusing in how they have wildly different, often contradicting, definitions, and where at least one definition is a bit suggestive, allowing them to use it around angels or demons or in public with one definition on the surface and the flirtier one underneath.
On the one hand, might is the past tense of may and involves gentle suggestions or polite requests asking permission. On the other hand, the word might also has a real oomph when used in its other definition, which is to express the strength and power of a nation, a natural force, or a person.
It's basically Aziraphale in a word-- unfailingly polite and gentle on one level and full of raw strength on another.
The other word is found, which can be, uh, found lol, in the Crowley-penned Aziraphale entry in 'Demon's Guide to Angelic Beings...'. The sentence is actually constructed around the inclusion of 'found' and what makes that extra-amusing is that it suggests Crowley was eager to get the word in there, likely because of its nautical definition.
In seafaring terms, for a ship to be described as found is a very positive thing and, to be defined as such, it must meet both of two requirements:
The ship must be both well-equipped (*cough*) and, equally important, fully stocked.
A person who is stocked or stocky is, as we know, one who is broader, more shoulders and chest than height, and of a fuller and thicker build in thighs and arms. Someone like Aziraphale, who is physically strong and brawny and who would not have much difficulty picking up what would be being thrown down if Crowley were to order a tiramisu for dessert, if ya get mah drift...
Insinuate: To subtly introduce slowly into hearts and minds; to maneuver someone or something into a desired position; to thrust in, push in, or wind one's way into; to introduce with torturous slowness; and, of course, the best one: to hint at obliquely (ha!)
The sinu part of the word comes from sinus, a word that I've *achoo* been cursing all damn week because the gorgeous trees and plants are trying to kill me but which is Latin for all sorts of things a lot more pleasant than 'the part of the head that is often pounding during Spring.'
English-language writers of the dreamy sort-- the poets who call rainstorms "tempests", like a certain red-headed demon we know-- would also use sinus back in the day to describe a gulf, a bay, or "the arm of the sea", as well as any hole or cavity in the Earth.
Insinuate = In sinu ate. In the sea, eating. 😂
Why ever [eve/"temptation"/"sin"] would [wood] Aziraphale insinuate that Crowley might [mmm strong] possibly [which shares roots with potent] want [to want; also contains ant, the humans in the insect analogy] something [so/sew, me, thin; opposite of might]? = the actual dessert isn't invented yet in this scene in 1601 but seems like Crowley wants to get tiramisu'd something fierce...
5- Royal Albert Hall: Love this idea. It reminds me of how The British Museum also has an afternoon tea but how they've met in the cafe and how they've probably both wanted to get tea there. While I was on the Royal Albert Hall website, I was laughing over the copy on the menu for the box service, especially the *very* rare modern use of rhubarb in this way:
Choose from a wide range of canapés, sandwiches and sharing plates, finishing your meal with sweet treats. All food is prepared with the finest seasonal ingredients and is always presented with signature rhubarb style.
Aziraphale, back away from the copywriters... 😂
Cheers as always for the amusing stuff to think about @jotun-philosopher 💕

Estera - Ch 15 - Wait
More blue and purple text for you as that seemed to work last time :) A dash of The Commander & The Murderbot and a sprinkle of Earth&Sky.
And yes, I laughed longer at that line than I should have.
(Previous… Prologue - Stars are Only Visible in Darkness, Estera - 1 - Colour, 2 - Dinosaur, 3 - Shoes, 4 - Thunderbird, 5 - Lesson, 6 - Safe, 7 - Gull, 8 - Deliver, 9 - Coffee, 10 - Flight, 11 - Run, 12 - Fall, 13 - Trying, 14 - Hide)
(Sofasurf’s Recrudescence which is the foundation for all of this)
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Hey, I’m up your way for a meeting next week. Maybe we could catch up? S
Oh I’m sorry, I’m taking the sleeper train to see my sister and her family.
Treviso, right? Hope you have a wonderful time!
Well remembered! I’m sorry to miss you, really bad timing.
I’m sorry!
Stop apologising! Have a Tiramisu for me 😋
Will do!
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Scott double-checked the date then closed the app and leaned on the balcony, watching the gulls land on Mateo to roost. His forehead creased with worry.
“EOS, could you look up the term dates for Estera’s school for me?”
“The current term ends in 4 weeks. Would you like the dates of the holidays and teacher training days for the next 6 years?”
“No, that’ll do. Thanks EOS.”
“I have also established that Estera Hermaszewska is marked as on sick leave and a substitute teacher has been engaged for 3 weeks starting two days ago.”
“EOS! No! You can’t just… I shouldn’t know that!”
“I thought you would want to know because you are displaying concern for her well-being. The school does not have particularly robust security on its staff records. There is a wealth of information here.”
“Stop. EOS. Please stop looking.”
“I have closed the connection. I am sorry, Scott Tracy, I did not intend to cause you distress. John will be displeased.”
Scott paused. There was a lot to unpack there, but he’d return to it later.
“I should have been more clear, it’s my fault. In future, when I ask you to find something out please would you limit your search to publicly available information unless I specifically ask otherwise?”
“Certainly. May I ask why you wish to restrict your knowledge about your friend’s welfare?”
Scott twitched slightly. “I don’t want to, exactly, but… has John discussed the concept of privacy with you?”
“He has explained we need to protect certain types of data. But I was only telling you and you are her friend.”
“Not really EOS, we barely know each other.” Another pause as he pondered how to explain. “But even if we were very good friends… part of human relationships is finding out about each other FROM each other. I should only know what she wants to tell me. To do otherwise is an invasion of privacy and would just make things… strange.”
“John knows a great deal of information about Estera Hermaszewska and they are not friends.”
Scott sighed. “John is a special case.”
“He has also informed Virgil Tracy, Tanusha Kyrano and Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward.”
“He has, has he?”
“Yes. Perhaps this is a fact he did not intend me to share with you at this time.”
“I suspect so EOS. But thank you for telling me.”
Scott headed indoors, suddenly deeply weary. Sleep was unlikely until he’d figured this one out though, so he turned his back on his own bedroom and made his way to his brother’s studio.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
His big brother had several distinct ways of knocking on his door. All were the same rhythm - Tap-te-TAP-tap - but the volume and speed would give Virgil advanced notice of what kind of mood he was in and a split second to prepare. Right now Scott was… unsure, worried about something. He made sure to add as much warmth and encouragement to his “come in Scotty” as he could.
“You always know it’s me.”
“Yep, it’s all the spy cameras I have set up… I’m kidding, Scott.” The brotherly eyebrows relaxed back into merely confused mode. “What’s up?”
“Can’t I just want to hang out?”
Virgil raised an eyebrow. Scott sighed.
“I have a bit of a…. Quandary.”
He watched his brother’s face as he explained. When he wasn’t deliberately shutting himself down, or focusing on his board meeting poker face, Scott was an open book. To Virgil at least. His expression and the intonation of his voice could provide more detail than the words did.
“It sounds like you made it clear to EOS, it shouldn’t happen again?”
“But that’s not the point. I know now. She’s sick, Virg, and I’m sure it’s something to do with… well… the same as I was. Because of meeting me. What if I made her dig all that stuff up but she doesn’t have a… a you to keep her sane while she figures it out?”
Scott paced, gesticulating wildly, and Virgil caught his arm as he passed, pulling him in for a hug. His brother was trembling with pent up energy.
“Well first off, well done for not leaping in a plane and rushing to try to fix her.”
His brother let out an explosive laugh. “You know me so well.” A pause, then more quietly “I really want to. But I know that would be weird and counter-productive. I just feel so…” he sagged “Responsible. I can’t just ignore this. I can’t just abandon her!”
“I don’t think you have to.” He pulled back a little to look up into his brother’s face. “Scott, when you were struggling but not ready to talk to us, what helped?”
“Hugs.”
Virgil squeezed him a little tighter. “What else?”
Scott broke away to recommence the pacing, palming the miniature rubix cube Virgil kept handy for him on a shelf and rattling through the algorithm to solve it. Reaching the far end of the room he spun on his heel and met Virgil’s eye.
“Two things I think. Distraction. Things to help me stay grounded. And then… knowing you were there if and when I did want to talk… but you weren’t going to force me.”
Virgil nodded.
“Can you do the same for her?”
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Why are elevator jokes so good?
Hi! Err, are they?
Because they work on so many levels!
…
That was awful.
Seriously, I hear better from the 6 year olds.
Aww, that was one of my best.
That does not bode well.
I am deeply wounded. 😭
Oops 🤣
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Scott shed his overcoat and face planted on to the hotel bed, well aware of the expression the overwrought Italian designer of his suit would sport if he could see such abuse. Wrinkles be damned. The way that board meeting had gone it was a miracle he’d not wrecked this latest one with blood stains. Again.
His comm pinged with a picture message. Unusual… he swiped it open.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Here is your Tiramisu. I’m afraid I ate it. I would apologise but you told me to stop doing that. Bad luck! Estera
Excellent work! 😋
Ah, now I’m hungry and have no dessert 😭
Oops 😂
You’re on the espressos?
You can’t drink cappuccino after 11am here. They’ll arrest you.
Good intel, I’ll bear that in mind next time I visit.
Have you been to Italy a lot?
Outside of rescues? No, actually! There’s no TI branch there and I guess we don’t get a lot of time to travel for pleasure.
Oh you should, it’s an incredible country.
Where would you recommend I start?
I’ll make you a list.
I look forward to it.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Scott smiled to himself. Then changed into his civvies, adding a baseball cap and his signature aviators and ventured outside.
Surely somewhere in London sold tiramisu…
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
On the train back. Finished my book already but still 9 hours to go!
Thunderbird One would do it in 3 minutes…
You just did the maths didn’t you?
Yep.
I’m guessing no restaurant carriage though? Whereas I am now going to go sit and enjoy the view with a coffee and some kind of delicious pastry.
… TB One does lack pastries.
I bet your brother has plenty of room for pastries in Two… 😈
Be right back.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Scott, did Thunderbird One just fly over my train?
… maybe 😁
?????
Alan needed to get some more flight hours…
And I wanted pastries.
So we are in Paris getting takeaway.
The fuel for those things is cheap right?
Sure.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Back at school today - the kids say hi :) I don’t know why they think I have some kind of hotline to the head of International Rescue but they won’t be dissuaded.
Hi right back atcha kids 👋
Atcha? What kind of a word is that?
An… American… one?
I don’t think it’s valid here.
Let me try again.
Good afternoon, esteemed juvenile citizens. I extend my compliments for your respective health and happiness.
You are no longer allowed to talk to the children 😏
Aw shucks 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Roberto ‘Loli’ Linguanotto died yesterday after a long illness.
Roberto was a pastry chef at the renowned restaurant Le Beccherie in Treviso, Italy, when it’s said he invented the dessert.
There are a few stories as to how exactly it happened, but one suggests he accidentally dropped mascarpone in a bowl of sugar and eggs.
Later, he and co-inventor Alba di Pillo-Campeol – wife of Le Beccherie owner Ado Campeol – added ladyfingers soaked in espresso.
[...]
‘It was served on a round tray with ladyfingers soaked in coffee, and two layers of cream and mascarpone.
‘A few years later, in 1983, the tiramisu recipe was published in a Treviso gastronomic magazine for the first time.
‘Le Beccherie then took it to Venice and later spread it around the world.
‘From the 1990s onwards, the dessert became famous everywhere.”

Pan e vin e a pinsa soto el camin
Tiramisu is apparently Italian for pick-me-up/cheer-me-up. ♡
It's paywalled, so use a 12 foot pole if needed~
forgot to post my version of the story...
#Tiramisu#my favourite cake and something I would gladly order a slice of every other weekend at the mall as a kid#I grew up having the tiramisu (with ladyfingers!!) at Geoffrey's so I'd often find other tiramisu too soggy too sweet#or needlessly drenched in espresso or worse covered in *chocolate syrup?!*#I've enjoyed some tiramisu cups though!!#there is one cafe here that actually does a nice tiramisu cup not too sweet and not soggy but they don't do home deliveries#they're my once a month or special ocassions treat (hadve them on 'Eid etc.#food#sweets#tiramisu

Treviso Tiramisu – das beste klassische italienische Dessert
Was ist Tiramisu?
