Warbler Showdown pt 3; Bracket 2, Poll 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
American Redstart (Setophaga ruticilla)
IUCN Rating: Least Concern
Range: quite extensive; breeds throughout most of Canada and the northern states, then migrates through the central and Eastern states before overwintering in the Caribbean, and from southern Mexico to northern South America (Ecuador to eastern Venezuela).
Habitat: moist, deciduous, second-growth woodlands with abundant shrubs, as well as thickets found in treefall gaps of old-growth forests. Sometimes classified as a "forest generalist", especially with their diverse overwinter habitats, with habitat depending more on the specific local of the population.
Subspecies: none
Yellow Warbler (Setophaga petechia)
IUCN Rating: Least Concern
Range: almost the entire continent of North America, save the locals of Nunavut, northern Quebec, and Greenland. Only migrates through the southern US states, and overwinters from southern Mexico all the way to Northern Brazil.
Habitat: breeds in wet, deciduous thicket, especially those with willows. While overwintering, uses a variety of wooded and scrubby habitats, as well as mangroves.
Subspecies: 9*; Mangrove Warbler could be split out as its own species

October 11, 2023 - Peruvian Warbling-Antbird (Hypocnemis peruviana) Found in parts of Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador, and Peru, these antbirds live in and around forests, often near water. The specifics of their diet are unknown but they probably eat insects and spiders, often following army ant swarms. Little is known about their nesting habits though they may breed between April and December. One of their nests was found in late June hanging from a forked twig near a treefall gap. Females lay clutches of two eggs.

Song 1 - Once Upon A Time
As promised, the lyrics to the first song in EOC! This is the opening number as well as some backstory
Singers - Mother Goose, ensemble
Mother Goose:
Once Upon a time
A line you must have heard before
Stories read when you were a child
Or now you read to yours
A line some think is said too much
But neverless, never fades
Cause though you grow, in your heart, your soul
That line will always stay
Ensemble:
Oh~
Oh~
Mother Goose:
The story I will tell today
May resemble something you heard as a child
Though this one differs from the one you learned
I assure you, it'll get wild
Ensemble:
Ah~
Ah~ - ah!
Mother Goose:
Once Upon a Time, in the land of Treefall
A Noble family stood so very tall
A father who was caring and warm, a girl some kind and bright
And a mother, lovely as can be, blessed with the powers of light.
The Plume family, respected and happy
Until life took a twist
Lady Plume's magic was rumoured to cause havoc
Soon the town screamed-
Ensemble: Burn the Witch!
Mother Goose:
Lord Plume married once more, so soon
After his first live was set aflame
Only for his daughter, who needed a mother
Is it him that we blame?
His second wife was far more uptight
Not yet cruel, but still cold
Till the father passed away in his sleep
Or that's what the village was told
Ensemble:
Mmm....
Mother Goose:
Young Ella, with both her parents gone
Left to her step family
Now a nobody in her very own home
She burns inside to free
But don't loose hope for Ella
Lile smoke and Flame, she'll rise
How ever will she do it?
I wonder if you'll be surprised
Because Once Upon a Time
Is only where the story begins
And when you're in your own story
You never know how it ends
Ensemble:
Ah!
All:
Once Upon a Time
A line you must have heard before
Stories read when you were a child
Or now you read to yours
Once Upon a Time
You'll find is only where it begins
And once you start, you never know
How your story will end
Oh, Once Upon a Time
A rhyme that beats inside our hearts
Mother Goose:
You can pretend that you've grown out of it
But it never truly goes
Once Upon a Time
A kind but sad with fire in her heart
Dreamed of rising like the fireplace flames
And faces the world with love

Exhaustion
Thrushbeard - Exhaustion
Sarah looked up from grinding something in a small stone mortar. “Matthew sent word they’re caught at a treefall on the castle road. Normally he and Cadan make up the beds but they won’t be home before we’re asleep, if at all, tonight. Best to make yours now, so you can tumble straight in after dinner.” How did one ‘make up’ a bed? Eleanor dumped her basket on the table by the door and stood,…
