In the Feather's Embers AU, since Martyn's powers are ice based, it made sense to have him run a froyo shop as a civilian. Uhhh also my version of Martyn has a super long jellyfish haircut and just ties the long part into a braid

I had fun drawing this one teehee

Also his shop is called Frigid Frosties cause it has a nice ring to it (don't worry it's not false advertising he does indeed sell frosties alongside froyo)

Also another thing I wanna say is FE!Martyn is practically a walking AC unit due to his powers lol

hello to the, uh, 200+ new followers i've gained from trivia. im finally remembering to throw out a quick pitch for some of my fics to you lot. can i interest you in some lanterns

Lamplight AU

Lamplight a DnD-inspired fantasy renchanting/treebark au in which Martyn is a paladin-by-desperation and Ren is his god. if you've ever seen fanart of Martyn with a lantern / staff around, that's this!

Ren has lost his body and been left in the form of living fire, and Martyn has been separated from his adventuring party. the two of them are looking for a way to restore both of these, and doing a lot of arson in the interim. the fic is about 50k, most of which is "canon" storyline and the rest of which is "non-canon" ship fic. there's also plenty of cool art and even some animatics for the fic, all of which i absolutely recommend trawling thru the "lamplight au" tag for (on here or on my writing blog, @driflew, or checking the fanart tab on my blog). there are even a pair of spin off fics written by close friends of mine for desert duo and boat boys!

lamplight is written out of chronological order and uploaded whenever. work on it lately has been slow, but it's still ongoing

lamplight isnt my only fic (tho it is my favorite). i write a lot more renchanting/treebark aus, some of which ill list off here:

(for the record. that title was NOT my idea). this au is also known as treesekai, or the treebark isekai dating sim parody oneshot. martyn is a normal man far too obsessed with the main antagonist of a poor-quality dating sim, the very same dating sim he's isekai's into. silly crack treated seriously parody fic as a love/hate letter to the many, many isekai webcomics ive read on webtoon originals over the years. it has a lot of rlly cool art and fic based of it, which you can find in the "treesekai" tag here or my writing blog

Treebark Week 2023

i also have a handful of oneshots from participating in every single day of treebark week around this time last year. these oneshots are for a bunch of different aus, such as a One Piece au, a beauty and the beast au, a lamplight roleswap au, a hero/villain au, a king/pirate au, and a mer au. all of these aus were developed with the help of other people (Rev for the One Piece au, and Cherri for the rest) and have other fics or art attached!

you can find bonus scenes from all of these aus, fanart or fan writing (including several page long comics or animatics), and even scenes from other aus i havent posted on ao3 over at my writing blog, @driflew, under the "lew writes" tag

it's six sentence sunday! since i posted a fic this week, i'll instead be giving you six fun facts!

i wrote the end part of this months and months ago when i opened lamplight treebark requests and added it to the end of this--id originally been planning to make two fics, but bc i was busy i combined them. i think theyre a lot stronger together tho!

i planned to do a dance one for heat haze, but didnt get to it. so this is a spiritual successor to that. one day i will write a follow up to it where Ren has his body back, but i won't write that till moonlight 3 is out

my title was from the @treebarktitleswap event run by @apollothetransboy ! my submission was, uh, late, but still, theres a lot of really cool works in here--you can find all 45 pieces in this collection! please check it out bc theres a lotta rlly cool work in here!

ive been waiting to explain how Ren experiences the world for so long--ive been able to hint at it or imply it, but this is the first time i gotta rlly lay it all out. his relationship to touch especially fascinates me--he Used to like touch a lot when he had a body, and now it isn't really pleasant at all. but he holds onto what it used to be like and what it means to him, which is arguably not entirely healthy, but pretty interesting way to think.

i spent so long stuck on how to set this up so i want to thank @mrfroag for letting me bounce stuff off them and coming up w the whole. festival idea thing. that was their suggestion--i was jut gonna throw him to zombies and ????? for the music, but froag's idea of a nearby festival was. a lot better

speaking of, this gave me an excuse to do some world building i hadn't thought of, and will now have to quietly retcon in most towns having some kind of. walls? around them so theyre protected from roaming zombies/monsters. it's not just dogwarts!

and, bonus fact... theres now a lamplight fan discord server? crazy! i dont run it, and it's a bit small rn, but i AM in it. i think it'll be fun? im already using it to send fanart you guys @ me in. fun newsletter channel for me

GRAHHH I'VE DONE IT

This one was setting me up for angst HARD but I said nuh uh and turned it into victory instead

That moment when the two of you experience a category five world ending event but you're both alive and covered in blood that (probably) isn't yours and you get to see the sunrise again

This isn't actually a scene in FE (yet) but idk I didn't really have anything already canon to put in here so I just made something up

I wanted to follow the monochrome theme I was going for but I wanted to fully color it at the same time as a treat, so bonus full color under the cut!

This one was actually genuinely hard for me cause most of the freakin' AU takes place in autumn/winter lolll

Was brainstorming with Stone and we were both like "strawberry ice cream" at like the same time, so yeah, best thing I could come up with for this

Also I thought I might mention that FE!Martyn's villain costume is heavily inspired off of New Life Martyn, so there's that

Also Martyn in this AU really likes chocolate while Ren likes vanilla

Treebark Week but I'm late Day Three

The Burn prompt was looking mighty tasty for angst potential heeheehoo

I had fun with the expressions on this one!! This is more of a scene you'd find before the main story of the AU, a certain fire-based hero trying to take the initiative to eliminate one of the most potentially dangerous villains. (That failed, obviously)

Funny thing with Martyn/Glacialis wearing a huge puffy coat - like, you'd think it's hot, but because Martyn doesn't have body heat, (body cool?? He has body, uh. Coolth.) It actually keeps him nice and cool. It refrigerates him, per say.

Also idk if this was noticable, but Ren in his human form in day 2 appears to be smaller than he does in this picture in day one, cause in his villain form, he gains some extra height. (If you wanna ask me about how this works my ask box is open :33)

In Feather's Embers, the Watchers are a cult, and FE!Martyn was unfortunately born into it under the lead Watcher. The Watchers and Listeners are categorized around the age of five, usually due to behavior, and Martyn was categorized to be a Listener.

Unfortunately this brought a lot of hate up on young Martyn, especially from the Leader. The Leader was supposed to have a Watcher for a son, not a Listener. Due to this, Martyn was traumatized at a young age, but luckily escaped.

Watchers and Listeners in this AU have their sight and hearing respectively enhanced, and both emit mist when using their abilities. Watchers, with enough concentration, can watch someone from across the world, while Listeners can focus on hearing someone from that far too, if they're strong enough.

Also, Watchers can see the auras of other Watchers and Listeners, but Listeners can't see auras.

Anyways, if a Watcher or Listener is unlucky, their powers might act up against them, and that's pretty much what's happening here with the mist. The bird cage is also symbolic of Martyn's past. Good thing he has Ren to calm him down!!

Also also Martyn's an avian yayyaya
