BEFORESHADOW
Things were different back then, time was shadeless. This was before the crow infestation, and before languished eyes, and before god was an antiquated notion…it was a place that only existed if everyone believed it to exist. It was lovely and beautiful and perfect and had no meaning at all but meant everything because he believed it so. It had to exist, because if it didn’t exist then he didn’t exist, and he could feel that he existed. This was before the crestfallen, and before psychosomatic relics, and before kinky war games. It was a place for pensive stares and ambrosial lusts, a place where a void could be filled by an owl of your choosing. This was before feral wolves, and poisonous orchards, and intermingling veins. It was a place where elusive dreams were fun to chase with a whole heart that never tired, never, never tired until it fell asleep.

NFL rushing leader Gurley inactive as Rams rest starters
December 31, 2017 (AP)(STL.News) —NFL rushing leader Todd Gurley of the Los Angeles Rams is inactive for Sunday’s home regular-season finale against the San Francisco 49ers.
Gurley will finish the regular season with 1,305 yards rushing. Also resting for the playoffs are center John Sullivan, left tackle Andrew Whitworth and defensive tackle Aaron Donald.
The Rams clinched the NFC West title last weekend and first-year coach Sean McVay is opting to rest several of his stars. Quarterback Jared Goff is expected to get the day off but is active as the backup to Sean Mannion, who will make his first career start.
Carolina running back Jonathan Stewart is inactive for the first time this season against Atlanta. Stewart had seen a diminished role the past two weeks. He had only seven carries for 19 yards in last week’s win over Tampa Bay, but was still listed as the Panthers’ starter. Stewart’s exit leaves Christian McCaffrey as the probable starter.
Jacksonville is locked in as the third seed in the AFC, but is sitting only two starters against Tennessee: left tackle Cam Robinson, who left last week’s game with an abdominal strain, and receiver Marqise Lee (ankle).
Derrick Henry is getting the first start of his two-year NFL career with DeMarco Murray scratched for the first time since joining the Titans. Murray is out with an injured right knee.
Denver running back Jamaal Charles will sit out against Kansas City, his former team. Charles was a four-time Pro Bowler with the Chiefs, but never found a groove with the Broncos this season. His past month reads like this: No carries in two games, inactive for two games.
Rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes will start for Kansas City in place of Alex Smith. Inactives for Sunday’s late games:

A MEMORY FROM THEN
- Up to Montamarte, up the hill above the hill, sore knees up sore steps, Sacré-Cœur dripping white sunlight into icy grey wintry mouths, the smell of sewer drip drop art spills upon stone, there in the distance below, the Seine hoists its Iron, I’ve died again in this life -

WONDER IN ALICELAND
She of the rain who never sleeps and asks him to drown her in the Atlantic, she of the paint beneath his nails and the ink within his tongue, it is her who knows well the ghost who haunts him, it is her who won’t ever tell it to stop.
He lies awake in the murk of her memory, gazing upon his eyes gaze upon her face, they are the fateful eyes of a fiend who once bled over his lover like she was the body of interminability; aren’t they so, those fateful eyes?
She of the blue dawn who sits dead on the edge of the bed and reminds herself to remember the night she tries hard to forget, she of the glow, the rose, and the brae, it is her who knows well the tangle which strangles his heart, it is her who can’t ever tell it to stop.
But the wonder, of her in his eyes.

TO CALLISTO (*moon iii*)
A soft, sweeping dance will do just fine to light the umbra of our third moon. To foreshadow whilst in the grip of a shadow is the purest way to tell time, and if you still cannot tell it, resist the urge to let it tell you-to let it tell you. Forever on that elliptical trajectory, forever, the idea of itself a crumbling construct of our false impression. Sunflower, (static) Sunflower, Sunfl…our time is forming.
Sonic Static.
In an eastern part of the West, his eyes once came to rest on the man who belongs to no known land. The gleam was just determining to break the gloom, the song was just beginning to break the spell. The bellow of his pipes, the dusky ombre strewn across his crackling eyes, the somber sound they made of one another together…we buried our hearts at his feet, to let him stand closer to the sun.
What is silent once knew the sound of itself.
Buzzing amidst the refraction, I was me, here, in this moment now, with the passing lightyears melting the blue. (muted rumble) Parallel, hold me as I transcend into you…
Variant Seam.
Blink back to the days blown by the wind…windy…windswept and gone, the tender blossom of existence before the everlasting War of the Tulips. Long-reigned empires of the Nova fell like rain petals released from a squeezed palm that only so squeezed them to pollenate the future of skylorn fortunes. In me, you long-lived as Silver Bee Queen.
Flicker on.
There is a hummingbird who sleeps outside of a window on the edge of an idea. Its wings tired from the flutter, its chest ready for the explosion. Whirring bird, have you grown to resent the flowers that brought you to your apathetic torpor? Surely you understand tiny lover, that were there no flowerets with the purpose to bloom, your hum would have never had the purpose to be heard on the frequency which she so purposefully heard it. It breaks this man to know how well you understand your function, it breaks this man to know it is the reason your pulse spirals to its relenting fade.
Flicker off.
The one who sticks stuck in a state of deja vu is the one who endeavors to unobstruct abstraction, for that one is the one who has experienced the breaking of the mind’s device. And once it has been broken, it cannot be unbroken, it is seen, it has already been understood. Sunflower, I see you over and over and over again, I see you now with an understanding, for the first time of many times prior.
Gaze through me clear, I do not fear the relinquishing of myself to death, only relinquishing myself to the death of fear.
Push…
Such a light…is the cast of their sunstar which at long last dies soft and far behind me. Sunflower, glow your face unto the breaking eventide, for I’ve realized my way through the realm of realized space which cradles your cosma. I am now. I am now. I am now. I am without body for you, I am of the void in you.
Push.
Between the holograms of the fathomless I hurdle toward your love, the binds of gravity broken of the notion belonging to a theory of string that was never meant to come so untied.
Push.
Should the last of me be swallowed en route by the inverse, I profess to you on this precipice, I’ve known no greater joy than the misery of tracking your trinary codes. (Converging Illumination) I’ve known no greater warmth, than my burn to find you. (Inaudible Pulse) I’ve known no greater desire, than the desire of nothing else. (Auroral Collision) My Astral Prism…My Parallel…My Sunflower…My…
Birth.

IT WON’T END UNTIL IT DOES
FADE IN:
EXT. DESERT - DAY
WIDE SHOT - The beautifully stark California desert landscape. SILENCE until -
In the distance, JACK sprints across the frame, trailing after him with a KNIFE is SIMON, fifty paces behind at all times. Their pace is staggered as they alternate between varied speeds, the one constant being Simon’s inability to gain any ground.
They both stop at the same time.
SIMON - How much longer do you plan on running from me, Sweet Boy?
JACK - Until you stop chasing me.
SIMON - But I’m not going to stop, I’m never going to stop.
JACK - Then I have to keep running.
RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN.
They pause in a new spot - breathing heavily.
JACK (CONT’D) - Leave me alone!
SIMON - It doesn’t have to be like this, Sweet Boy.
JACK - It doesn’t?
SIMON - No, it doesn’t. You could just let me catch you, and we can agree on a humane way, a good way.
JACK - A…good way?
SIMON - Yes, I can kill you in a good way, a humane way.
JACK - But you’ll still kill me?
SIMON - Yes, I will kill you very much, Sweet Boy.
JACK - Well then I guess - whoa what’s that over there!?
Simon glances over to the east for a split second before noticing Jack take off.
RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN.
They slow.
SIMON (CONT’D) - Wait! Will you just…please, now hold on one damn minute!
They stop, equidistant.
SIMON (CONT’D) - If you insist on doing this, the least you could do…is give me a sip of your water, we’ve been running for ages.
JACK - You don’t have any?
SIMON - No!
JACK - Why don’t you have any?
SIMON - Because, you were never supposed to let this happen!
Jack considers this determination.
JACK - No…no I certainly shouldn’t have.
BEAT.
JACK (CONT’D) - Well, sure okay, I guess I can give you one sip. But won’t you kill me when I bring it to you?
SIMON - Yes I will, but please, I am very parched.
BEAT.
SIMON (CONT’D) - Please!
Jack places the bottle of water at his own feet then sprints forward, as Simon then sprints to the water and swigs.
SIMON (CONT’D - Ahhhh, thank you, Sweet Boy, much better. Ahhhhhh. Okay.
Jack takes one step backward, Simon one step forward. Simon takes another step forward while Jack moves one stride backward - the distance between them never changes.
BEAT.
JACK - I didn’t need to give you a sip, you know?
SIMON - I know you didn’t, you’ve always been super sweet.
JACK - And…I don’t need to die, you know?
SIMON - I know, I know. And I don’t need to kill you, but I just realllllllly want to.
JACK - I love life, though.
SIMON - Which part?
JACK - I’ve loved all of it. Even this moment, as awful as it is, I love it, every fleeting second of it.
SIMON - Every second you’re alive you are a second closer to dying. And I’ll just be heartbroken if it’s not by my hand, truly I will be. (tear) It stirs me into a storm just thinking about it.
Jack’s losing hope -
JACK - But…but you could use your power for something else, something greater. Don’t you ever feel bad?
BEAT.
SIMON - “I have kissed honey lips, Felt the healing in the fingertips, It burned like fire, This burning desire..”
Simon singing U2, motioning with his hands to get Jack to join in - instead Jack weeps desperately.
SIMON - “I have spoke with the tongue of angels, I have held the hand of a devil, It was warm in the night, I was cold as a stone.”
SIMON/JACK (in opposite tones) - “But I still haven't found, What I'm looking for, But I still haven't found, What I'm looking for.”
SIMON - Classic.
JACK - I can’t outrun this, can I?
SIMON - There’s a symbiosis between you and I.
JACK - If I stop you’ll kill me, and if I keep running, the elements will take me…
SIMON - Oh, Sweet Boy…you shouldn’t have started in the first place! If you had only…held still…this wouldn’t be so hard. I’ve only chased you because you ran, I can’t stop, I’ve never stopped. If I were to stop, it would only be because there was nowhere to run. Don’t you understand? Ughh, sweet boy! You’re so sweet it hurts! AHHHHHHHHHH it hurts!!!!!!
BEAT.
JACK (CONT’D) - Okay.
He gestures Simon over to him.
SIMON - Okay? Really?
JACK - I’m tired, it’s exhausting.
SIMON - You’re not just saying that so I start running and then you take off again?
JACK - No, I love life.
Simon is cautious for a BEAT, then sprints toward Jack, who remains in place. Simon stops directly in front of him, breathing heavily but overcome with sweet relief.
SIMON - Oh thank you, Sweet Boy, this is very pleasing to me, very pleasing. (salivating) Now?
He raises a knife -
JACK - Even now…
He stabs the knife into Jack’s torso - his eyes bulge, clutching his stomach as he sways forward.
JACK - …every fleeting second of it.
He falls to the ground, dead.
Simon is overwhelmed - euphoric, orgasmic breathing. He ambles over to a rock and sits down tiredly. A soft LAUGHTER builds into a ROAR, it crescendos, then subsides into - immense sorrow.
The wind beating without sensation -
He steals glances over at Jack’s lifeless body. He crawls over to him, slowly, nuzzling his face into the body like a lonely animal.
TIME LAPSE:
A desert wanderer, THOMAS, a lone survivor — surviving alone in his paradox.
EXT. DESERT - ANOTHER TIME
A more disheveled version Simon, overcome with despair, falls to his knees in a state of hopelessness until he looks up and sees -
In the near distance, poking his head up from behind a boulder like a daft jackrabbit is Thomas.
Simon’s eyes are refilled with lust - Thomas takes off running.
The chase ensues.
SIMON - Slow down, Sweet Boy, it’s not what you think! I can do it in a humane way! A good way!
RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN.
