Watercolor nature scenes are well underway! This week's goal is to practice painting in these themed test sketches that represent the full scenes themselves to see which ideas might take root, and which I'll need to work on a little more before I can turn them into full paintings. Lots of new original scene ideas here, but I've also a few Travels with Qrow RWBY watercolor ideas too! I hope these all turn out beautifully! Wish me luck!

Wandering Traveler: I'm sorry to reveal myself like this... (Removes hood)

Summer: I hope you'll forgive me for keeping this a secret from you girls.

Yang: M-Mom...

Ruby: (Sniffles) You're alive~!

Raven: (Thinking) I had no idea! My heart's in my throat right now! How could I have possibly seen this coming?!.

Summer: Of course, I knew you four already figured me out from the start.

Taiyang: I figured you'd be insulted if I couldn't recognize one of the loves of my life...

Qrow: It's pretty obvious, too, since only and Squirt wear that kinda get-up.

Oscar: Oz said it wasn't our place to tell, and I kinda had to agree with him. It's so refreshing, though, that everyone else knew, too, right, Ms. Raven?

Raven: Uh- Y-Yeah, it is. I knew the whole time also...

the maidens were a later addition, but if the vaults and the relics were always a thing, there likely would have been another set of "keys" to unlock the vaults, right.

which, if it's still four people... teams of four... ozpin giving away powers (of being able to open the vaults, not necessarily magic)... what team is broken, each member in different parts of the world (or straight up missing lol)...

RWBY Fanfic Idea

Long time no see, huh? Hope you are all doing well.

So, it's been a while since I watched RWBY Vol9 and we got those epilogue bits and pieces, and I'd like to propose an idea, that for me might have made the show a tad more interesting (Nothing wrong with it essentially, I am just dying for some time travel angst. But that's what fanfics are for).

Because our main heroines find themselves in a journey of self discovery in what seems to be an alternate sub-dimension within the world of Remnant. And then they return to the exact point in time and space where they were supposed to be, missing for a few hours or days pretty much.

So what if, and I say what if, that wasn't the case? What if time flowed differently in the Ever After?

Well then, we have three delicious angst and drama filled scenarios.

Case 1

It works pretty much like Narnia did. I don't rly care much for Salem I must admit, but let's say our heroines get stuck there for a few years. A decade or so. They learn to adapt to the Ever After and its ever-changing tumultuous nature, they make a life for themselves (Perhaps as 4 guardians, each for a season, or a point in the horizon) and become more a family than they ever were. Because all they have from their world is each other. And they learn to function as a unit, never far from one another, always knowing, always caring, always pushing each other to new heights, becoming better and more in sync. And they form this deep intrinsic knowledge of each other, with each duo (and I mean all duos, not just the partner pairs) having its own quirks and habits. So yes, they are a team, yes they are partners or teammates, or girlfriends, but at the same time they are something more, something you cannot exactly put in words.

And somehow, someday they find a way out. The tree finally accepts them or idk what. And when they return to Remnant, they end up in Vacuo, when they left and...they are kids again. They are 18 and 20, instead of 30 and 32. Their bodies feel wrong. Too awkward, too small (R:Ugh, do I have to be the shortest one AGAIN?) cause they aren't theirs anymore. And Yang might find herself tracing across a scar that Blake doesn't have anymore, Weiss' eyes lingering on the missing chunk of an ear that magically is whole again, and rejoicing at looking in Ruby's eyes. Both her eyes. And Ruby can see her teammates, her family, whole again without any scars to show for what they went through, but for those engraved in their souls.

But for the people outside this neat little arrangement, RWBY fell to their deaths, and miraculously returned a few days after, but they came back wrong. There is something stiff and worn in he edge of their expressions, like they have seen too much, like they know too much, and have lost what little innocence they had left. There is danger glinting in their eyes, steely and cold, and downright unsettling. They are different, there is no denying it. They seem more mature, as people and as huntresses, knowing things only experienced huntsmen faced with impossible odds would.There is this aura following them too, one that screams danger and demands respect.

Weiss seems more authoritative than ever before, comfortable in her own skin and creativity, not measuring her worth by her achievements. Ruby is still her optimistic self but she is more confident and sure of herself, like something within her has settled, and finally found its place, nothing like the lost girl hanging by a thread before the fall. Yang's temperament has evened out. No longer fueled by anger and hurt, but by an unbreakable resolve to persevere and will to protect what matters the most to her. And that's not the past that is long gone, not the old grudges that have no worth left in them, but her team, her family. And where Yang has learned to let go, Blake has learned to hold on, to chase for what she wants, to grasp it with both hands and not let go. To face her fears, the trials and tribulations of growing and changing alongside someone, trusting they will stay, and not run away from the monster. And she has learned to face overcome her own shortcomings, and stay. Even when things get rough .

And then there are their interactions with each other, as if they cannot bear to breathe when one of them is not near, eyes frantically searching for their mirror, for the reassurance that it's all okay. The impossible training regimes and semblance evolution. They complete each other as if the four are one, and anything less than that would be incomplete. The constant whispers, and wary glances, the countless inside jokes, and meaningful smiles, only they can interpret. The silent communication, the wordless gestures of comfort, gestures too intimate to be discounted at first glance. But they are oblivious to the raised eyebrows, and the questions hanging from the edges of people's lips. What matters is that they are back and they are together.

They are back, and they look the same, but they are not the same people they were before, and while everyone sees it, no one really dares to say anything. Because there are nightmares. And more often than not, a scream will echo in the desolate camp in the dead of night, followed by a gun shot, or the sound of sth tearing, and the four will huddle together, comforting each other with soft words and sweet nothings that make no sense.

They are the same and yet different, and Winter knows it, because there are times Weiss seems impossibly older in her eyes, so much so that she feels like the little sister instead. Qrow sees Summer in Ruby's steely gaze and rueful smile, and Tai's unbreakable resolve in Yang's smirk. (The sharpness at the edge of it reminds him of Raven a few years back, when the girls were still young, and his sister was the biggest Grim-slaying force this side of Mistral, but he doesn't want think about it.) And when Blake meets her parents again, they think she looks worn and tired, her soul too old for the body it's occupying, but she will always be their little girl, and she has come back and she loves them, melting into their embrace as if she was ten years old once more...

Case 2

They are stuck in the Ever After for 10 or 15 years again. Only this time when they find a way out, they don't change back. And then suddenly in Vacuo, a few days after Atlas falls, while Winter, Qrow Oscar, Nora, Ren and the rest mourn all those they have lost, four strange women appear. (The outfits will have obviously changed, unless somehow they wanted to wear the same thing for 10 or 15 years).

The strangers are huddled together, and check each other for injuries first and foremost before even thinking of facing the other people. And when they do, their breaths hitch and they all collectively freeze. Because the strange travelers, those peculiar women dressed in unfamiliar fabrics, covered in a million and one little scars, look like team RWBY.

But they cannot be, they could never be, for Winter lost her sister three days ago, and the white clad woman looking at her with Weiss' eyes, tear-filled and wide, (so much so that the small vertical scar over the left one wrinkles), could never possibly be the little sister she lost.

Winter spares a glance to the rest of the strangers, never lowering her sword, eyes burning with the chill of a wintry fire, and feels more than hears the spring maiden - Raven Branwen, (the woman who had abandoned her family and then had flown in Vacuo as soon as she felt her bond with Yang snap), whisper a half broken "Summer", her first tightening over Omen's hilt, as she took in a sharp breath - the most unsettled Winter had ever seen her.

The strange woman with silver eyes, clad in red and black instead of white, her face so familiar and yet so different, gives her a small rueful, remorseful smile,

"Not quite." she responds and Winter recognizes that tone, different though it was from mere days before.

"Hey, Uncle Qrow." The golden one smiles and winks, and there's something lingering in her amethyst hued eyes, something like nostalgia 'long time no see' and 'I missed you'. She is impossibly tall, taller than the last time Winter saw her, and somehow broader and more muscular. She reminds her of Elm a bit if the other Ace Op was built like a bear and shone like the Sun. A strong hand was settled comfortably over the shoulders of the woman's black and indigo clad faunus partner, bringing her close.

Winter's head reels, and her gaze hops from one to the other, her mind trying to make peace with what her soul already knew. Blake Belladonna's golden gaze (because it could be no one else, standing tall and resilient, long black hair swaying in the hot desert wind, studded cat ears stiff and alert, long graceful fingers wrapped along the hilt of her obsidian colored blade) stays on her. It is sharp and inquisitive, curious, heavy with experience and knowledge, and it weighs on her shoulders, as she remains still with her sword extended, examining the unlikely band of not so strangers.

They were women now. Full grown, and different, nothing like the kids that fell into the void what felt like an eternity ago.

Qrow's half choked "Firecracker?" and Raven's disbelieving curses barely reach her ears as she hones in on the white-haired woman again, letting her gaze linger on the scar on her collarbone and the shoulder length white hair fashioned in a low ponytail not unlike the one she sported herself. Her eyes, blue like the summer sky, and so much brighter than her own were still wide, as if drinking the sight of her, as if she hadn't seen her three days before, Winter's visage being the last thing she saw before falling to the void.

"Winter?" it's barely more than a whisper, and Winter doesn't know how to feel because it sounds so much like her sister and so much like Willow (I hc that of the sisters Weiss is more similar to Willow appearance wise.) that she lowers her sword and collapses on the ground half sobbing her sister's name (I think it would make a great parallel to when she fell and Winter called it out so brokenly... top tier voice acting)

They'll probably call Robyn to verify their story and when they do there will be a loooot of tears and confusion and hurt and pain and anger and DRAMA, so much drama, I think I could right a book abt the Schnee family drama and trauma if that ever happened.

Things will be hard from then and on, because Winter's little sister is now older than her, and she can spy the crows feet starting to appear at the edges of her eyes, and the laugh lines around her mouth, her skin tanner than Winter could ever imagine it would be. She carries herself like a leader, like she never had to step from someone's shadow, much less Winter's own. She looks like she finally knows her worth and has another three people being there for her unconditionally when she needs it. I won't even start on Whitley who lost another decade from his sister's life without either their input, just when he had started bonding with her again, or Willow. Man, I think that Willow seeing Weiss as a thirty something grown woman (that looks so much like her before Jacques, before her own life started going downhill) would warrant a relapse. A big one.

Qrow is probably going to get himself hammered after all this and Raven will join him. Like imagine them looking at a Ruby that is now as old - if not older - than Summer was when she died. A Ruby that looks almost exactly like Summer, but has grown into herself as a huntress and a team leader, that has learned to bear the burden and share it when it gets too much. A Ruby Qrow can no longer call squirt - she is almost as tall as him now, and built with the lean hard muscle of someone that sprints for a living - and Raven cannot underestimate. A Ruby that reminds her so much of Summer, but is so different from her old leader, that has found her own brand of strength and settled into it in ways neither she nor Summer could.

And then there is Yang. Yang that has Raven's face, but Tai's golden complexion and has grown into his strong broad built (I imagine her more like a strongwoman than a calisthenics type of muscular). Yang that does finger-guns at Qrow like she is sixteen, and looks at Raven with little anger in her amethyst hued eyes. Yang that looks so much tired when the chaos settles down, and embraces her team clinging desperately to them, whispering "we are home, we made it", when things get too much for them. That has taken to mothering Nora and the rest of the kids, because they are kids. What for them was 3 days for RWBY was 15 years. And they haven't been kids in a long time. She still has her playful side don't worry, the puns are being served with a Yang.

And last but not least Blake. Blake that has found her home with the others, that has learned to trust and be trusted, that doesn't hide who she is for anyone's benefit. A brilliant tactician, a creative bright mind, a spirit writhed in shadows. Lean, tall, positively feline, a stealthy predator at its best, she has fallen into her role with the others easily enough, and it's plain for all to see that she offers her quiet support, with soft words that cut at the edges and tender embraces with the undertone of protection and support. Blake who ran away from home at 12 (I think) only to come back at 18, and then disappear again at 20. And just the amount of pain the Belladonnas must have experienced losing her for a second time, and then having her appear again, only she has aged another 15 years since they last saw her. They probably feel like their daughter's life is slipping by them, and they'll never rly have enough time with her. Their little girl comes back an independent teenager and then a grown woman, with a bit of Ghira's imposing build and all of Kali's feminine guile. A cat Faunus that moves like a panther, sharp liquid gold eyes honing in every minute detail. A woman whose heart sings of pain and loss, and perseverance and love, a stranger with their blood in her veins they could not be prouder of.

Yeah, that family pain hits hard in this one. And lastly,

Case 3

The gang does stay in the Ever After for a few days indeed, but out in Remnant it has been years. Salem is over with idk how, and yeah our friends go to the blacksmith and everything but when they return to Remnant, everything is different. The world has moved forward and changed without them.

Menagerie is a kingdom now apparently, and has its own huntsmen academy. Ghira and Kali have thrown themselves into making this work, overcome as they were with the second and final loss of their only child. So imagine when they get a call or see Blake for the first time in more than a decade. But their little girl looks exactly the same as she did when she fell, and they are...old. Ghira's beard and hair has been going gray and he's lost some muscle mass, and Kali's proud stature is diminished, and the ever present smile on her lips has barely made an appearance in years. So I suppose it will be painful as heck for them to accept that Blake is back. They;ll never let her go when they do though...So angst, yeah.

Tai will have shut down. He has no one left apart from Qrow. And well I d like to give it a twist here and say that when Raven feels her bond with Yang snap, and realizes that well her daughter is not coming back, she does a bit of a reevaluation of her priorities and either completely loses herself, trying to keep that strength facade, or gets her shit together, cause her brother and ex need her, and STRQ kinda reunites. No Ozpin though, that would be too far. And then Ruby and Yang appear, as old as the day they left, and well... I think Qrow would get drunk, Tai would melt into a mess, and Raven would deny it all. Seeing Ruby and Yang reacting to their family being so old will be interesting. As well as Yang's relationship with Raven given the revelations that yes, her selfish, coward, asshole of a mother actually has a heart in there somewhere.

The Schnees will be again the most angsty I think. I say Willow managed to pull herself from the bottom of the bottle for Winter and Whitley,and took back the SDC and is now on the way to retirement. Winter is the new General, and even has a family of her own perhaps and Whitley is practically next in line for the company. And then Weiss appears. And its a shock. Because Whitley is now older than her. Taller, though still with the dancer's built he sported since he was a kid. Only he has activated his aura and semblance now and has a goatee. And a partner. And a kid on the way.

Winter on the other hand is head of the Atlas military has introduced a bunch of new policies with Robyn and they both work toward stabilizing Atlas and making sure to avoid the whole Ironwood thing. Or well ironwood 2 at this point. And Winter loves Robyn( It's mutual). They are all but married at this point, having spent too many nights with Winter drowning in her own guilt, paralyzed by feelings too big for her heart to contain. Too many desperate moments when things are tight, with Winter gripping Robyn's hand like a lifeline saying that she isn't turning to another Ironwood and that she is doing what she can with whatever supplies she has, visibly relaxing and melting in relief when it flashes green. With Robyn whispering sweet nothings to her ear and Winter encouraging her when things seemed dire, with them reminding each other to take it slow and relax for it to be any different.

Winter has made up with May, and the Happy Huntresses are her own little family, a home away from home. They have probably adopted a bunch of kids probs from Mantle and raise them all together. And then Weiss appears. And it's one of the little ones that notices and asks, tugging at the coat Miss Winter is wearing, asking her why the girl in blue looks so much like her. And then angst I suppose. It would be interesting exploring their dynamic a bit more, especially if we go with the route that Winter helped raise Weiss quite a bit before she left for the military, and how that sisterly/motherly relationship changes- if it does at all - now that her sister is back from the dead. Seeing Winter grapple with her guilt, or her anger years after and all that jazz.

Not Art, but this has been on my mind for a while now so I’ve decided to just make a poorly made meme in order to get it out there and give my brain a rest.

But seriously.

If I had a nickel for every Red riding-hood inspired character I took in as my favourite of a franchise, that is connected to wolves or the moon in some ways with cool looking hair and have through a lot in their franchise, I’d have three nickels.

Which is one more than average and makes it even weirder, but eh :/.

The Little Girl in the White Coat

Ruby: Ahh?!

Summer: What's wrong, Ruby?

Ruby: I burnt my marshmallow...

Tai: Give it here, Ruby. You can have mine, mine is nice, and brown!

Ruby: Yay! Thanks, Dad!

Qrow: How's yours coming along, Firecracker?

Yang: It's great! If Mom would stop stealing my marshmallows!

Raven: What?! I take offence to that! I did not steal my daughters marshmallows!

Tai: I can see the chocolate on your cheek from your last smore, Dear.

Raven: Ahh crap...

Qrow: Hahaha!

Tai: Alright girls, it's getting late, we best head to bed.

Ruby: What?!

Yang: No!

Tai: Come on girls it's late.

Ruby: Not until you tell us a story!

Yang: A scary ghost story!

Qrow: Well... we are around a campfire, and it is late at night. Its a perfect time for scary ghost stories!

Summer: Okay, but only one ghost story then off to bed with the both of you.

RY: Yay!

Tai: So, who has a scary ghost story. Ray, you got a scary ghost story to tell?

Raven: G-Ghost story?! N-N-N-No! I don't have anything to share!

Summer: Is, Raven...?

Qrow: Afraid of ghosts? Absolutely!

Summer: Oh? Oh that's good to know~!

Tai: What about you, Qrow?

Qrow: The clan didn't really tell scary stories. What about you?

Tai: Dad, never told me any stories around the campfire.

Summer: Well, looks like it's up to me then.

Ruby: You have a ghost story to tell, Mom?!

Yang: Is it scary?!

Summer: Mmm... It is a ghost story, but it's not a scary ghost story.

RY: Nawww...

Summer: But, it's also a story of a hero!

Ruby: A hero?!

Yang: A ghost story about a hero? That doesn't make sense.

Summer: Yes! This is a ghost story about the, Rusted Ghost!

Yang: The Rusted Ghost...?

Ruby: Can ghosts get rusty?

Summer: No, this is just the name of this particular ghost. Now then, you've all heard of the, Rusted Knight before?

Yang: Yeah! From that, Ever After book you read us!

Ruby: The Rusted Knight is the coolest!

Summer: Well, what if I told you a story about how the spirit, the ghost of the, Rusted Knight appears in this world too!

Ruby: What!

Yang: Is that true?!

Summer: Yes! Now then, this is a story about a young girl, no older than you, Yang. A young girl traveling through the woods, she was dressed in her favourite white coat, caring loafs of freshly baked bread to give to her loving grandfather!

Ruby: Bread? Why not smores?

Tai: You can't have another smore, Ruby.

Ruby: Nawww...

Yang: Keep going, Mom!

Summer: Well, as the little girl in the white coat was making her way through the woods, a pack of, Beowulf's jumped out of the bushes surrounding the little girl in the white coat!

Yang: Ahh?!

Ruby: Beowulf's?!

Summer: Yes! Beowulf's! They had come there to steal the little girl with the white coat basket! The evil, Beowulf's wanted all of her freshly baked bread for themselves! But, as the little girl in the white coat was cowering away from the, Beowulf's clutching her basket of bread in her hands. A rustling from the bushes was heard, and out from the bushes emerged, the Rusted Ghost!

Summer: The Rusted Ghost wore stunning pale white armour, he wore a helmet with slit groves in it. The ghost wore an off white cloak billowing in the wind. The ghosts armour was covered in gold that filled crevices in his shattered, and broken armour. The gold bled off across the armour, giving it the appearance of rust! He had a longsword, wrapped in a faded deep blue cloth along the hilt rested against his hip.

Summer: As he neared the monsters he pointed at the monsters, he spoke in a silent yet booming voice demanded that these monsters leave her alone! The Beowulf's all pointed, and laughed at him, they said they weren't going to do anything. That they were going to take the little girl in the white coat bread, and eat it all up!

Summer: But, the Rusted Ghost merely sighed as he drew his sword! And, as the Beowulf's saw this, and they charged him!

Ruby: No?!

Yang: They attacked him?!

Summer: Yes! They charged at the, Rusted Ghost! They bared their fangs at him, but the, Rusted Ghost stood it's ground! As the first, Beowulf lunged at him, his rusted blade flew through the air with a white, and golden blur as it sliced through one, Beowulf after another!

Summer: And, as the last, Beowulf fell, it's body fading into black smoke, disappearing, and blowing away before it even reached the ground! The Rusted Ghost looked around before sheathing it's blade, it walked along the ground with heavy, yet silent steps as it came closer to the girl in the white coat. The Rusted Ghost knelt before the girl, and ask if she was alright.

Summer: The Rusted Ghost asked the little girl in the white coat if she was alright, she said she was fine. The Rusted Ghost asked why she was alone in the woods, she said she was on her way to give this bread to her grandfather. The Rusted Ghost said it would protect the little girl in the white coat all the way to her grandfathers home.

Summer: So, the little girl in the white coat walked alongside the, Rusted Ghost. They walked towards her grandfather's home, as the little girl in the white coat saw her grandfathers house in the distance she ran towards it. She knocked on her grandfathers door, and her saw his dear grandfather. She leapt into his arms as she told him the story of her encounter with the, Rusted Ghost.

Summer: But, as the little girl in the white coat pointed towards the, Rusted Ghost, she pointed towards an empty path that lead out of the woods. The Rusted Ghost was gone! The little girl in the white coat cried out that it was just there, but the grandfather just laughed as he rubbed the little girl in the white coat hair, and brought her inside into enjoy some strawberry jam on a slice of freshly baked bread.

Summer: And, while the little girl in the white coat was sad that the, Rusted Ghost left, the Rusted Ghost was needed elsewhere. For there were other little girls, and boys out there in the world that needed the help from the, Rusted Ghost.

Summer: And, that my girls is the story of, 'The Little Girl in the White Coat, and the Rusted Ghost.' What do you think?

Ruby: That was an amazing story mom!

Yang: That was a great story mom!

Ruby: Another! Anoth... yawnnnnn... another story...

Tai: I don't think so, Ruby, looks like your body is saying it's time for bed. Come on, let's get to bed.

Ruby: But, I don't wanna... Zzzzz...

Qrow: Haha! And, she's out like a light!

Raven: Come on my little dragon, it's time for you to go to bed too.

Yang: Alright, Mom. Goodnight, Mommy.

Summer: Goodnight, Yang.

Tai: Okay, the girls have been put to bed.

Raven: And, since the kids are asleep, the drinks are out!

Qrow: Yes! Toss a can here!

Raven: Here ya go little brother. Tai, you want one?

Tai: Sure toss it here.

Raven: Here you go. Sunny?

Summer: Hmm?

Raven: You want a beer?

Summer: Oh? No, no thank you.

Raven: Suit yourself.

Qrow: Ahhh! Now this is how you finish a night: Sitting by all your friends around a campfire, drinking a beer under the stars!

Tai: It sure is.

Raven: Ahh~! That hits the spot... So, Summer?

Summer: Yes?

Raven: 'The Little Girl in the White Coat, and the, Rusted Ghost...' You know, I've heard plenty of stories about the, Rusted Ghost, but I've never heard that one before.

Tai: You've heard ghost stories about the, Rusted Ghost? I thought you bandits would tell horror ghost stories around the campfire, not stories about the, Rusted Ghost.

Qrow: No, we've heard quite a few stories about the, Rusted Ghost. but, I've never heard that one before either.

Raven: Did you just make that one on the spot?

Summer: On the spot? No... Well... I... I just tweaked it.

Raven: You 'tweaked it?'

Tai: What do you mean by that?

Summer: Well... The little girl in the white coat, doesn't sound so different than the little girl in the white cloak.

Qrow: The little girl in the white cloak?

Tai: The white cloak?

Raven: Wait, was this story about you?

Summer: Some of it, the real story is actually rather... dark.

Qrow: What do you mean by that?

Summer: ...

Summer: This story takes place when I was fourteen. I was in a small town with my grandfather, I was training to become a, Huntress, and my grandfather took me to this small town dealing with, Grimm attacks.

Summer: While my grandfather was talking to the mayor, two men came to me panicking, they told me they saw some, Grimm. Not thinking about it I followed them, but as we got deeper into the woods, three more men came out of the trees, and jumped me.

Qrow: They what?!

Tai: They jumped you...?!

Summer: Yeah... Two of them forced me to the ground holding my arms as I struggled in vain to get them off. Another kept there hand over my mouth so I couldn't scream for help as another man loomed over me...

Summer: His companion... one of the men who tricked me into coming into the woods told the man to shut up, and get on with it already...

Summer: The man standing over me laughed as he told him to shut up, that he was just, 'savouring the moment.' After that, he ripped up my corset, then he tore off my skirt, next was my undershirt... Then lastly... he ripped of my bra...

Summer: Three men were holding me down, another was standing by watching, and the last one was kneeling over me, stripping me naked... In that moment... even after years of facing down hordes of, Grimm, I've never been more scared in all my life. Even now, just talking about it sends chills down my spine...

Tai: Summer... Y-You don't need to continue if...

Summer: No... No, you three are my family... You deserve to know this story. Besides... as scary as this all was, it ends on a somewhat pleasant note...

Raven: How the fuck does a story about almost being rapped end pleasantly?!

Summer: Because I wasn't rapped.

Tai: Oh thank gods...

Qrow: Gods... You scared the shit out of us, Summer! Gods, Raven hand me another beer, I'm going to need it.

Raven: Okay, but I get the other one. Hell, I think I better break out another six pack.

Tai: Good idea...

Qrow: I hate to saying this, but... can you please continue, Summer?

Summer: Okay... Well as I was struggling in vain to break away, there wasn't much a fourteen year old could do to get four fully grown men off of her. A voice, a voice as silent as the nights sky, but boomed with the echoing roar of a thunderstorm spoke up.

Summer: It asked what was going on, the man standing by the side told the man to go fuck off. The voice spoke again, asking what they was doing with that girl, to me. The man laughed as he said that they were going to have some fun with me. In a quiet yet commanding voice I heard the words, 'I see.' I then heard the sound of shuffling of metal as heavy, yet light footsteps neared me.

Summer: The voice said one thing, 'Let the girl go, or die.' The man laughed, and told the man to fuck off. Then, I heard the sound of the drawing of steel, then I heard a small thud, followed by an even heavier thud. The man who tore up my clothes then got up, he pulled a dagger from his waist, and told the man he had fucked up. He then screamed, and fell to the ground clutching the severed stump where his hand once was. Then I heard another sound, the sound of a mans throat being cut.

Summer: As I saw that man's body fall, dead upon the ground, I finally saw my saviour... It was just as I described him to the girls...

Summer: Dressd in full plate armour as white as bleached bones... Antique gold running around the trim of the armour, and filling in the cracks of their broken armour, fading off the white giving it's rusted hue. A long sword with a white blade, and golden antique pommel, and handguard, with a faded deep blue leather around the hilt. He wore a matching bone white cape with gold bleeding off of it that flapped in a calm breeze.

Summer: What stood out to me the most was it's helmet. It was a faceless, emotionless, and yet... I could feel an intense gaze, a silent rage, that held an absolute authority, and control over this situation.

Summer: I had heard stories, even heard rumors, but in that moment all of them were true. That the, Rusted Ghost, no... that the spirit of the, Rusted Knight was real.

Summer: One of the men that was holding me down let go, and charged at the, Rusted Knight. He fell after the brush of one swing of it's sword. The other two men let go of me, pulling out their knives, and charged him. The first one fell when a sword was thrusted through his chest, his body fell onto the ground the, Rusted Knights sword still buried in his chest.

Summer: The last man was grabbed by the throat, and hoisted into the air, turning his body around before slamming his body on the ground. He cried out in pain, and then in fear as the, Rusted knights armoured boot slammed down, crushing the mans skull into a pile paste...

Tai: He crushed his head with his foot?!

Qrow: Damn... talk about a brutal takedown...

Summer: The Rusted Knight's back was facing towards me when it did this, but I distinctly remember the sound, and the way the mans blood splashed about...

Summer: After this mans... execution. The Rusted Knight pulled out it's sword from the dead man's body, flicking the blood off it's blade before sheathing it. It walked over to me, and knelt down in front of me. I covered myself the best I could with my cloak to give myself a modicum of dignity.

Summer: His voice was so calming, even though it felt so cold... But, it said to me... 'Little girl in the white cloak... are you alright?'

Summer: I said I was fine. Well, mostly fine. I was almost rapped just then... But, the Rusted Knight asked if I could stand, and I did after I steadied my nerves. The Rusted Knight then said it would guide me back to the town. The Rusted Knight never spoke another word after that, and yet, despite this intimidating, and commanding aura that the, Rusted Knight had. I've never felt more safe with the, Rusted Knight than in all of my life.

Tai: What? I thought you felt safest in my arms?

Summer: Oh, don't be so jealous, Dear~! There is a difference in filling safe within your lovers arms, and a knight in shinning armour. Much less one of myth, and legend.

Tai: Still bet you feel safer with me... You feel safest in my arms don't you, Raven!

Raven: Are your arms my wife's arms?

Tai: N-No...?

Raven: There's your answer.

Tai: Ohh...

Qrow: Pff! Hahaha! Suck it, Tai! You're not your wife's knight in shinning armour!

Tai: Shut up...

Summer: Hahaha. Well, after we reached the edge of the forest to the village, the Rusted Knight stopped, and gestured towards the town. That this was as far as it would go. I saw my grandfather, and I ran towards. My grandfather saw me, and came running towards me, grabbing me, and then screaming at the residents of the town as he saw the condition of my clothing. I told my grandfather that despite my appearance I was fine, I told him that I was saved, saved by the spirit of the, Rusted Knight.

Summer: My grandfather said that was ridiculous, but as I pointed to the woods where I came from, the Rusted Knight was no longer there. And, while my grandfather didn't believe me about the whole, Rusted Knight bit, he was forced to believe that someone did save me when he found my would be rapists mangled corpses. After that we went home, and that's the end of my story.

Tai: Whoa... That's... That's a hell of a story...

Summer: You believe me?

Tai: Of course I do, we all do, right guys?

Raven: You're my wife, Summer. I know how good of a liar you are.

Qrow: Or, more correctly, how bad of a liar you are.

Summer: I'm not that bad! R-Right...?

TQR: Ahh-hahaha!

Raven: No, you're worse than that.

Summer: Hey!

Qrow: So, did anything happen after you were nearly... Uhh...?! A-After you met the spirit of the, Rusted Knight?

Summer: Well, I never strayed far from my grandfather, or my teammates after that. But, one day when I was on another mission with my grandfather. I saw this old lady at a shire, it was a shire dedicated to the, Rusted Knight. I told my story to the old lady about my encounter with the, Rusted Knight. She was one of the few people who believed my story about my encounter with the, Rusted Knight.

Tai: Did this old shrine lady believe in your story?

Summer: Yes. She was one of the few people to believe my story wholeheartedly. After that she gave me this charm.

Raven: Oh, so that's what that pendant you hang around your neck is.

Summer: Yep, it may be nothing more simple than a simple copy of the, Rusted knights helmet, which bares a striking resemblance to the real, Rusted Knight's helmet.

Qrow: Does it now?

Tai: It is a nice design...

Raven: So, it's a good luck charm of sorts?

Summer: It certainly is to me. I was wearing it when I was made team leader. I was wearing it when the three of us became a couple, I was wearing it when we got married, and when I gave birth to my adorable little rosebud! To me, this charm, meeting the, Rusted Knight has been the greatest possession I've ever been given. Well, second only to my wedding ring~!

Tai: Pff... Now you're just saying that to butter me up.

Summer: Is it working~?

Tai: ...

Tai: Yes...

Summer: Hehehe~!

Qrow: Well, looks like we got our scary ghost story after all...

Raven: I would have preferred a scary monster story than that. But, it's still a hell of a scary story...

Tai: I'll say...

Summer: Well, even after all that had happened, I still wish I could see the, Rusted Knight one more time. I never got to say thank you to him for saving me. I was so in shocked over everything that had happened that it never crossed my mind.

Tai: Wait, did you say, 'Him?'

Summer: Oh, yeah I did.

Tai: What makes you think that the, Rusted Knight was a guy?

Summer: W-Well... The body's shape, and the voice were certainly a mans voice. But, what mostly stood out to me was the, Rusted Knight's eyes...

Qrow: Eyes? The Rusted Knight has eyes?

Raven: And, you saw them?

Summer: I did. When the, Rusted Knight knelt before me, he was at eye level with me. I saw the most beautiful blue eyes~! They were a deep cerulean blue that glowed with an ethereal beauty that was captivating to behold... I fell in love with men having blue eyes that day onward~!

Tai: Oh, so that's why you fell in love with me, because I have blue eyes?!

Qrow: Damn talk about being jealous.

Raven: Even I'm a little jealous... Oh well, maybe there is still a chance you'll see the, Rusted Knight in the future, Summer. In one way, or another.

Summer: One way, or another? What do you mean by that?

Raven: One of the stories we were told is that the, Rusted Knight exists on a whole different plane of reality.

Summer: Wha...?

Raven: They say that, Rusted Knight existence is on a whole different plane then ours. Sometimes they appear as a child, an old man, or the knight we all know. They say as a child the spirit of the, Rusted Knight brings joy, and happiness. The old man brings wisdom, and knowledge to those in need. And, the Rusted Knight is the warrior that protects all those that are in need. They say that there are even more forms than that.

Qrow: Yeah, I've heard a story that, Rusted Knight is a spirit that reincarnates into a new body every generation. So who knows, you may meet your, Rusted Knight in another way in the future.

Summer: Oh well, considering the circumstance under how I first met the, Rusted Knight, I would prefer that's how I meet them again.

Qrow: I'll say...

Tai: Well, if by some miracle you do meet again, do let us know how it went.

Summer: Will do. Now then, let's all head to bed, It's getting late, and the girls have school in the morning.

Qrow: Damn... I'd like to stay up more, and chat. But, Sunny's right, we best get to bed. Dealing with the girls antics is already hard enough with a hangover. I don't want to imagine dealing with them when I'm also sleep deprived...

Raven: Now that sounds like a nightmare, and a half.

Raven: There's certainly a lot of people here. I didn't know that many people came for parent visiting day.

Summer: That's only because you, and Qrow hid in our dorm room because you don't have any parents to visit you

Raven: Oh shush you! Now then, let's go find our ki...?!

: Mom! It's so good to see you!

Summer: Ow... Oh, Ruby? Oh it's good to see you too my little girl~! You've gotten stronger, you nearly knocked me down with your semblance.

Summer: Not likely. The person I knew existed long before my daughter, or you were born.

Jaune: Oh, that's a shame. Ahh well, if there's nothing to be done about it, then that's that.

Summer: Did... Did anyone ever tell you that your eyes... That your eyes seem to glow?

Jaune: A few people have actually. I just think I have bright blue eyes that just makes them look shiny.

Summer: Ohh... that makes sense... Hmm? Oh, your bracer, was it broken?

Jaune: Hmm? Oh yeah, it was broken. Well, cracked would be a more appropriate description. My fellow classmate, a brute with a large war hammer crashed down on my bracer during a training bout, cracking it. But, as you can see, I repaired it.

Summer: But, how did you repair it? Normally when you repair armour that's been cracked you reforge it, right?

Jaune: Normally yes. But, my ancestor learned about this technique in, Mantle called, Kintsugi. It's usually used to repair broken pottery, and the like. But, my ancestor figured out a way to use it to repair armour, and weapons. Despite how it looks, it actually makes my gear stronger than it originally was.

Summer: Oh my, that's an interesting technique, I would love to learn it.

Jaune: Sorry, I'm afraid I can't tell you, Mrs. Rose. It is a family secret after all.

Summer: Then perhaps you could marry one of my daughters, and have one of them tell me?

Jaune: I doubt that would work. Ruby is more likely to ask me to marry her for my families chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Summer: Ah-haha~! Now that sounds like my little girl.

Jaune: Yeah, a lot of our bets are, Ruby demanding cookies from me. I'm getting a little tired of baking cookies, but it's not as bad as my teammates pancake obsession, so I'll take what I can get.

elaborating on the Highschool DXD/rwby idea me and weatherman came up with.

we're probably gonna have to start the story well before cannon, just because with the abilities of warlord jaune being natural to him I doubt he'd be an unknown for long.

so jaune's gonna be 12, along with most of the rwby cast living in America. ruby is 10

first up jaune, jaune arc is not at all related to joan of arc in fact his family has no heroic ancestry at least on a mythical level. his ancestors have been soldiers in the united states since the revolution. his powers quite literally come out of nowhere. when jaune realizes that he has spidersense and instant mastery of anyweapon he picks up as well as making the weapon glow white and gold and be way stronger he decides to become a superhero. unknowingly starting a one man war with the devils and fallen in North America. his family is not Christian and holds no gods instead the follow the ancient Celtic tradition that the cycle of reincarnation is an endless battle to prove honor and conquer everything you can before you die so you can do It all again in the next life.

ozpin: ozpin is a wizard who was obsessed with reincarnation and uncovering the mysteries of it. as a result of his experiments he made it that every time he died he would wake up in the body of a new born no memory lost, he does have to deal with growing up every time though. his current body is named oscar and while young his magical know how makes him pretty much the defacto leader of the American mystical defense league. he lives in Canada.

salem: an ancient princess who sought eternal youth, she succeeded and lives semi happily in the north American wilderness occasionally offering magical aid to those who find her. she's got a soft spot for romance as she grew up on ideals of courtly love. she's exceptionally knowledgeable but is enjoying her retirement from mystical bullshit.

summer rose: servent to salem she was the main protector of north America for a long time. she has a unique mutation that hinders magic connected to her silver eyes. intense emotions cause her eyes to flash removing all magic in her sight. with an enchanted axe she's quite capable of handling most threats in north America since the place is pretty dead magically speaking. easily able to take on low class devils and strays she worked with her team to take on the forces of darkness. her day job is a school teacher for a private school run by salem.

tai-yang xiao-long: a user of senjutsu his mastery is at a pretty low level, still more than enough to keep his friends safe his day job is a martial arts instructor.

qrow branwren: the scar qrow himself. qrow got a job working for the feds as he got older being sent out to investigate strange occurrences for the department of mystic investigation or the DMI as the only one who actually gets paid for looking into this bullshit his friends make him foot the bill for travel most of the time. he doesn't mind too much since he lives with tai and summer. taught by ozpin in his last life qrow's a pretty average mage. still more than enough to handle the threats he gets put up against. now if only he knew why those fallen assholes had such an interest in him.

raven branwren: currently working as muscle for whatever criminal will hire her raven is most well known for her enchanted katana that she stole and will never give back. it enhances her physical abilities and she's the main villain jaune faces as he tries to be a super hero. she's well aware she's not that strong in the grand scheme of things but she's got a talent for getting jaune riled up to fight and then leaving her enemies to deal with him, kid's too easy.

ruby rose: ten year old daughter of summer rose and inheritor of her eyes ruby was born with the sacred gear petal burst which being a dryad allows her to turn herself into rose petals and move at extremely high speeds. she prefers her magic shooting laser gun. but she can summon a rose themed scythe when in melee combat. she doesn't need to make it a scythe but she's a little edge lord.

weiss schnee: daughter of a wealthy buisness magnate weiss was obsessed with the occult secretly she wants to be a magical girl. her studies allowed her to buy a magical rapier that increased her abilities in combat. she's also a pretty good hand at magic though she'll need to be better to fight the forces of evil with love! she is also from the great white north.

blake belladona: nekomata who's parents are first generation immigrants to the united states, they came here for work and fell in love with the country. blake is a huge weeb and wants to be a ninja. she's currently studying senjutsu to better aid that goal. she will go out of her way to make mysterious entrances and exits. she has a ninjato her parents got for her that has been mystically enchanted to be able to cut anything.

yang xiao-long: daughter of tai-yang she also studies senjutsu but has a much greater talent for it. already well on her way to mastery she also has a sacred gear. burning vengeance is a dragon based sacred gear that absorbs kinetic energy and redistributes it. in time yang will learn to power it via her own punches as well as direct kinetic energy in such a way that she's practically invincible. but for now she's only just discovered it. it appears as a pair of gauntlets and grants her more power based on how hard she is hit.

pyrrha nikos: descendant of Achilles pyrrha was told from a young age she was destined for greatness. growing without pear she thought her only option was to be picked up by some faction of the supernatural and that would be it, instead she met jaune and for once fought someone just as talented. this lit a fire in her that hasn't gone out since she will find out just who this "huntsman" really is and she will have him join her. together they shall forge their own destiny.

she holds the spear and sheild of her ancestor. Diatrekhōn Astēr Lonkhē: Straightforward is sometimes the best way to go. Rather than rely on special capabilities that form the core of a fighting style, the best course of action is to have a reliable weapon that enhances what you can do even without it. The spear of Achilles does just that. A very well made weapon, with a sharp and sturdy design, with high capability for use as a spear and a throwing javelin. It has two magical abilities. The first is that the wounds created by the spear cannot be healed without very powerful magic, so long as the spear exists. the wounds this weapon makes become part of the normal state of any victim.

The second ability is to create a bounded field for dueling. A battleground is created where it becomes impossible for gods, outside help or luck of any kind to interfere in the battle between the two combatants. This created battleground is a separate dimension, divided in space and time from the outside world, ensuring any duel lasts just a brief moment to outside view. The duel rules are decided on by both combatants together, but enforced fully on agreement, and the battleground can only be summoned provided both agree with full knowledge of the details of this ability. Only once one of the two are defeated can the field be escaped.

Akhilleus Kosmos: "The shield made for Achilles by the god Hephaestus. Engraved with a detailed depiction of the Greek world, the shield, beyond being an effective indestructible object, is able to project a immensely powerful bounded field in response to any attack. the bounded field acts as if all of Greece was between the attacker and you when activated. Should an attack be incapable of piercing both through such a magical dimensional construct and lack the power to tear through an entire country, it will fail to reach you. However, not only does the shield’s bounded field cost energy to activate and maintain, it will prove far less capable against any attack particularly capable against ‘worlds’ or dimensional constructs like this."

nora: daughter of thor, nora was supposed to be at home learning to fight, she instead stole her father's chariot and went to America to see what kind of trouble she could get into. as a demi-god she's quite strong and can control holy lightning. she's the equal of pyrrha physically though because she likes to skip out on training she's not quite as skilled. she uses a hammer as large as she is. it's enchanted not to break under her strength but that's it. and that's all she needs.

her dad wishes she would stay put, he misses hanging out with his darling baby girl and making massive thunderstorms together.

Ren: son of a chinese sword master ren has been on the path of physical cultivation for as long as he can remember. meditating daily to put more and more energy from his senjutsu into his body strengthening it. as he father says muscles, unlike women, will never betray you.

after all technique requires a specific stance or situation to be useful, muscles will always be ready. he's been friends with jaune since they were little but only recently has jaune discovered his abilities.

ren's sword storm flower is a gift given to him by nora made in a Chinese style it is capable of cultivating with him being infused with just as much senjutsu as he is.

first arc: let's be heroes! jaune uncovers his powers and decides to be a superhero not knowing about the supernatural world. he ends up picking fights with devils who own his territory and between them and the criminals he has his hands full. he tends to just use whatever is on hand if it's a surprise attack but when he's going out in his costume (a pumpkin Pete hoodie with a mask he can pull up) he takes his baseball bat with him. while doing his hero thing he meets all sorts of people that he will later team up with and also starts to get the attention of various magical factions. second arc: this is mine now! jaune is able to weild a piece of the hold sword Excalibur. more than that he's now on the hunt for all the pieces the only saving grace is that he has school so his travels are only infrequent. ren pushes his cultivation further while helping his friend. and pyrrha creates her red huntress persona to try and get closer to jaune. nora joins in an becomes her side kick.

Jaune: First of all it's "Jaune". And what I want to do is find a woman who will work hard for me! I'm going to become a Househusband!

Qrow: Are you serious?

Jaune: Of course! After everything that happens, I want to live a quiet life cooking and doing housework, while I wait for my dear wife to return!

At that moment the girls of team RWBY began to imagine Jaune wearing an apron while cooking, telling them with a big smile "Welcome home, dear!" Well, most of them were thinking that.

Jaune: Maybe it is a bad dream?

Ruby: *Blushing* Not at all!

Weiss: *Trying to hide her blush* Nowadays it is normal to be a househusband.

Yang: *Winks at him* You would look great in an apron.

Blake: *Nose bleeding* Only wearing an apron., hehehe~ *She says quietly*

ALLUSION ANALYSIS: SUMMER & RAVEN

I always wanted to do a deep dive on Summer & Raven’s characters, and after that finale I think it’s time. So as we all know RWBY characters are based on fairy tales & stories of real life. I want to dissect the inspirations for Summer & Raven & analyze why it’s so interesting that these two are paired together.

So Summer’s base allusion is from the poem The Last Rose of Summer. Her grave has lines from the poem, her name, etc. The actual poem is an allegory for death & the acceptance of it. “Thus Kindly I Scatter” refers to the act of peacefully dying and being returned to the universe, not to mention her intentional ghost like appearance.

As for her secondary allusion, well, she basically fills all the remaining roles in Little Red Riding Hood. She’s the (grand)mother Ruby visits, the wolf with the shiny big eyes, & the brave huntsman with the ax. This telling of Little Red is a lot more Grimm than the original, pining Summer with a not so happy ending.

Now onto Raven. A lot of people think her base allusion is Huginn, one of Odin’s all-seeing ravens. Although this is true, it is not her base allusion, but her secondary. Secondary allusions only work when another character is involved. She can’t be Huginn without Munnin (Qrow) or Odin (Oz). Odin’s ravens were meant to represent his eyes, so when Huginn left, he lost one of his eyes. Similar to how Cinder’s lost eye was revealed after her fight with Raven.

Her real base allusion is of the poem The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. The poem is about a talking Raven consulting a man about losing his loved one. Both of Raven’s allusions come full circle within her fight against Cinder in Volume 5. Cinder’s theme song has been teased since her introduction & it ended up being a diss track about her downfall and telling her to accept her death. The entire scenario played out as if this was Cinder’s final fight. And of course, Raven was there. And you know who else died there? Vernal. Raven officiated her passing by closing her eyes for her, one again linking Raven with death, just like the poem.

Now, we have a theme here. Both Summer & Raven take cues from poems about death & passing & acceptance. With all of this information, rewatch their scene again. Raven, the death doula, is sending Summer, the Last Rose, to her death, and Summer is accepting it. That’s why she left the rose pendant with Ruby. Deep down she knew there was a major chance that she wouldn’t come back. But she accepted that fact. She then traveled with Raven to hopefully put an end to Salem, but this is where both of their stories come to a plot hole.

How can someone accept death if they can’t die??

Yang: I wouldn't have minded really... But you might be completely on the spot for Qrow and my dad.

A Rosegarden by Any Other Name Would Smell As Sweet

AKA Reasons Why Rosegarden is Canon #015: Ruby and Oscar's Multiple Shared Allusions to Other Fairytale Love Stories

Typical disclaimer that while all characters within the RWBY narrative have a main allusion, they often have secondary allusions that apply to the roles they fill in relation to other characters stories. Like how Yang is Goldilocks on her own, but becomes the Beauty to Blake's Beast when paired together.

The first, most notable example for Rosegarden is, of course, The Little Prince (expanded upon here). Oscar's primary allusion is of a boy who grows up on a planet "scarcely bigger than himself, who was in need of a friend", and one of his most influential relationships is that to a rose with whom he loves. They spend much of the story separated from one another, while the prince wanders lost in a desert, pining for a way to reunite with her back home.

Important to note this isn't the only time Ruby has been a Rose for another fairytale. She also slots in as the Rose Red to Weiss' Snow White, she acts as the successor to her mom as The Last Rose of Summer, and she also stands in as the Enchanted Rose to Bumbleby's Beauty and the Beast given how it's a "true loves kiss will break the spell before the last petal falls" situation... and BB kisses two episodes before Ruby Rose "dies".

The second notable allusion for Rosegarden is the Warrior in the Woods (expanded upon further here), a canon RWBY fable from The Fairytales of Remnant. The very first story within the book is about a village boy who becomes a huntsman after being inspired by a huntress he meets in the woods. A huntress, I might add he fell in love with the moment he saw her silver eyes.

Something to note about both of these examples, is that they are each stories with a focus on caring for someone else in unique ways. With The Little Prince, the Rose is vain and has many demands and asks the prince to tend to her; while in WitW, the warrior works tirelessly without thanks to protect a village. When the boy meets her, he starts looking after her for a change because he figures that's the least he can do to repay her. Both of these tie in well to RG's dynamic of Ruby carrying such heavy responsibilities alone, with Oscar making a conscious and active effort to help her shoulder those burdens.

The third, more subtle allusion, is their respective ties to The Wonderful Land of Oz. Oscar's first confirmed allusion before the Little Prince reveal was originally to Princess Ozma/Tip, the heir to the Kingdom of Oz given his proximity to Ozpin as the man behind the curtain, as well as to fit a "genderbend" character within the framework of team JNPR.

How does Ruby tie into this one? Well, we have to work backwards a bit. Ozpin's initial four lieutenants were all linked to the original cast of Oz:

Qrow as The Scarecrow without a mind (travels around as a crow and is regularly inebriated)

Ironwood as the Tin Man without a heart (his multiple cyborg prosthetics and character development in Atlas)

Lionhart as The Cowardly Lion (his fear overtakes him and pushes him to join forces with Salem to save his own skin)

Theodore as Dorothy Gale (donning ruby gauntlets instead of the traditional red slippers)

But RWBY is a story about legacies and breaking cycles. With the new generation of huntresses in Oz's inner circle, they replace those who came before them.

Blake takes Lionheart's place (cat faunus that ran out of cowardice, only to become brave and return to the fight)

Weiss as the Tin Man (aka Ice Queen, who's heart melted as she became kinder and grew more attached to those around her)

Yang the Scarecrow (no longer blindly following orders, but making an active effort to question the words and intentions of those around her)

Ruby as Dorothy (her little dog Zwei and the red - or silver, depending on movie or book adaptation - slippers that lead them all on their journey)

Why bring up Oscar as Princess Ozma and Ruby as Dorothy? Well, according to the original books and not the movie, "Dorothy and Ozma are each other's closest relationship" as illustrated here:

Very good friends. Just gals being pals. Sharing the responsibilities of leadership with one another. Smooching in the palace gardens. Dorothy as the only one who's allowed in Princess Ozma's rooms without an invitation. #BFFS4EVA

These are all the canon ones that are easy enough to parse, but there are some similarities to others famous stories that can be found with a bit of squinting that I will also share just for fun.

The first is how Ruby's experience in the Tea Party acts as a near perfect display of Romeo and Juliet's ending. For those unfamiliar with - or who have forgotten - the bard's infamous tragedy, it is a story about two star-crossed lovers very much doomed by the narrative. It ends with Juliet faking her death without telling Romeo. So when her prince charming comes across what he believes to be her corpse, he drinks a vial of poison and kills himself out of grief. When Juliet wakes and sees he has left her, she takes his dagger and stabs herself so they might be together.

In the tea party, Ruby fills the shoes of Romeo and Oscar of dear Juliet. Oscar is "killed" by Ruby's blade, but it is an illusion. He's not real. Like Juliet, he's not really dead. However, the vision is still enough to push Ruby into drink a vial of poison (the tea that takes her to the tree), giving up in the face of her grief, just as Romeo does.

And if we need any more evidence for this one, can't hurt to bring up the infamous quote of Juliet wherein she likens her love to an oh-so-familiar flower:

What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet;

A line that Juliet says to proclaim that if her Romeo weren't a Montague, then she would still love him regardless, but through which implies that it would be easier for them to be together if he were not himself. And within V9, Ruby's cited motivation to go to the tree is because she doesn't want to be herself any longer.

And last, but certainly not least, is how a lot of ships within RWBY seem to have fairly direct parallels to the myth of Eros and Psyche. It is a classical tale about the trials of love, putting the protagonists under multiple tests of loyalty and attachment before letting the two lovers unite at the end. Both love stories within Beauty and the Beast and Snow White and Rose Red pull inspiration from the myth, and we see it in CRWBY's approach to writing romances throughout the show thus far.

Blake and Yang being separated, breaking and rebuilding trust, before coming together in V9; Ren and Nora going through trials and conflict, currently apart now so they might discover who they are on their own before re-uniting with one another again; and Rosegarden having constant reunions, separations, and trials with strong focuses on their attachment to each other. Another common archetype they use from Eros and Psyche is that of the "Animal as Bridegroom", wherein at least one of the partners undergoing a transformation that is often monstrous in nature.

Bumbleby is self explanatory

WhiteKnight has the issue of Jaune being lost to time and becoming an Old Man, who's curse is reversed by magic. It alludes to his role as the Prince within Snow White and Rose Red who was initially turned into a bear via a curse

Rosegarden, has this instance for both characters. Oscar as an Ozcarnation (becoming something he doesn't want via a curse they are trying to break before time runs out) and Ruby's future fate should she be captured by Salem (being turned into a Grimm by the wicked witch - or eaten by the wolf - like her mother before her).

All of these line up with the myth's structure as well as Monty's foundational philosophy on love stories that we see in his quote from many years ago:

A lot of these all have really tragic endings so uh. Good thing RWBY likes to subvert the stories it's telling, right? They're going to get a happy ending, right CRWBY???? 😰

Cardin: Sigh... Don't you think Divine Leader Jaune has took things bit too far?

Ironwood: At this point he'll add every possible title except Dictator.

1. The character everyone gets wrong

In RWBY- Ozpin tbh. I've seen VASTLY different takes on Oz, everything from "Ozpin has done nothing wrong" (incorrect, a big part of his character is that he HAS made mistakes) to "Ozpin is a zealot and a Light cultist and abused Salem", and honestly both sides drive me up a WALL, the latter moreso than the former. People sometimes take unreliable narrators at their word, or go too far with the 'unreliable narrator' thing and then start assuming even silly things are unreliable (i.e. Qrow saying not many people are religious on modern Remnant. Why would this be unreliable??). I've seen some incredibly stupid takes about Ozpin. One of the ones i hate the most is that he's racist. Don't need to explain the stupidity of that one lol.

And, another thing that I don't really talk about- i think a lot of people are pretty wrong about Salem too. I don't think she abused Oz, or that she's a heartless monster, or that the Grimm turned her into an unfeeling being. She's absolutely cruel, and she's gotten a fuck ton of people killed, but I'm honestly not sure her goal is to destroy the world to commit suicide lol. It feels like the show is building up to reveal that that's not the case, since we haven't actually gotten her goal from HER yet.

And another character a lot of ppl don't understand is Oscar. Like... yes he has a personality?? He's contemplative, sassy, realistic yet optimistic, values individuals, constantly gives people second chances, etc. These are all uniquely Oscar traits. The only things he's gotten from the merge personality-wise seem to be a widening vocabulary and more confidence. He's not a nothing character with no development or no arc, and he's definitely not gonna be taken over by Ozpin.

13. Worst blorbofication

If I'm understanding this right, the worst case of blorbofication I've personally seen in a fandom is probably what the batfandom does to Tim Drake... and honestly a good chunk of the rest of the batfamily, but particularly poor Tim and Jason. Please for all that is holy stop turning them into lonely victims of the rest of the batfamily where no one can understand them. I guarantee you that Dick, the Romani guy who likely grew up poor in a traveling circus, has more in common with Jason than he does with Bruce.

25. Common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing

In the RWBY fandom? Probably complaints about the animation and writing. Most of the time the complaints about the writing are only complaints because the person in question completely misunderstood the show. Some criticism I've seen are actually fair, such as talking about the White Fang and the faunus, but others are... just silly, like Jaune being Miles self insert.

About the batfandom- I'd say the constant complaining about batcest. Which like, it's FAIR to complain and dislike it, but also at some points it's just like... just block and filter the tags? And if its untagged (never seen it untagged before), just politely tell the author/poster and leave. I've seen people get EXTREMELY hostile about it?? Like, legitimately wishing death on people, even as a "joke". Like, cmon man, I don't like those ships either but I'm not wanting people dead over fiction 😭 chill out, you (general) sound insane
