I just came back home from a weekend trip to Bergamo, and I really loved the city. It was small enough to be visitable in two days, the architecture was beautiful, and although it was really hot I had an overall good time! I will be definitely be posting more pictures in the next few days, but I particularly like this one so I wanted to give it its own little post. I am very much tired after two days made up of a lot of walking, and I am still living with zero plans of what I should be doing, but to be fair I do not feel like I have recovered from my burn out yet. Feelings of guilt for not being productive have started making their way to my brain, but I am doing my best to be rational and not give into them. Starting to journal again would definitely be helpful, but I have yet to find the strenght to build the habit back up again.

Quinta da Regaleira

This site looks ancient but it's actually a 20th Century villa that was constructed in the early 1900s.

The aesthetic harkens back to a much earlier age with its stonework mimicking old castles of the region and extensive layout filled with unique (and sometimes hidden) features.

This spiral staircase on the site descends into "The Initiation Well," a structure nearly ninety feet deep with no clear purpose. The number of esoteric and alchemical symbols incorporated into the Quinta inspires speculation that this, and other areas, may have been used for occult practices.

At the base, where you see the pink compass, you come to a cave with a series of tunnels that lead out of the space...eventually.

After sitting in the courtyard of St. Martin's Church for a while I continued on until arriving where I would conclude my walk.

The National Palace was as deep into Sintra as I could go, as it is its very center. I did not enter, but instead took some time to look over the town, and the paths I had cut through the hills.

I was pleased to find a vertical rail here on this balcony, as it provided a perfect support for my phone as I set up a quick shot.

To capture this shot I sat my bag on the stairs of the palace and situated my phone onto my bag at the desired angle. The palace just didn't captivate me as much as the color of the town did. It's a much more beautiful backdrop.

I left the city center, making sure to cut through Parque da Liberdade on my way back to my residence, and after doing so I was back there in an hour with about the same amount of daylight left.
