thinking abt how azi was truly crowley's sunlight through the millenniums. like, here's this demon who didn't mean to fall, who just asked questions and deep down he was still so good. and he is alone, he's the literally the emboidement of the first sin, and NOT by his own choosing. he's so alone and afraid and just wants a real conversation w someone, even if its an angel who'll most likely hate him. and here's the guardian of eden, who gave away his sword, that GOD gave to him, without asking a single question, to help the humans under his charge and he's kind to crowley and crowley is utterly fascinated. zira is basically the first protector, not only to adam and eve BUT CROWLEY TOO. he protects crowley from the first rain bc he's so fundamentally good and kind and crowley can't help seeking him out over the years. when they meet in rome, c is obviously far more withdrawn and angry bc of the things he's seen and was forced to do and there's az again, so happy to see him and even inviting him to dinner. everytime they met, even when crowley was saving azira, he also saved crowley by the simple act of being his friend.

The man is a god in purple robes, and the hare, who goes by Lan Xichen, apparently also supernatural as it transforms into another tall man at his side. Wei Wuxian is shocked to find that Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji not only know each other, but are brothers. It seems that the god suspects they are plotting something.

With a wave of his hand, the god casts a spell that replaces the space suits with period clothing, to the amazement of Wei Wuxian. As Lan Xichen talks on and on, Wei Wuxian feels that there is something familiar about the god (surname Jiang)...in a sudden spark of recognition he calls him A-Cheng. The god is silent for an unnerving amount of time, and the Lan brothers look on in apprehension. Just as Wei Wuxian is about to backtrack, A-Cheng turns and says casually that Wei Wuxian can call him whatever.

Jiang Cheng takes Wei Wuxian on a tour of the moon palace. Wei Wuxian treats it like a date. They end up on the lake surrounded by glowing golden lotus flowers, a lotus in Jiang Cheng's hair picked by Wei Wuxian, drinking wine. Wei Wuxian is happy with how the date is progressing.

I couldn't resist. I thought of this immediately after drawing the first page on this post and used drawing it as motivation to finish the main pages as soon as possible, possibly to the detriment of my sleep.

and to drive the point home that virtually no man is safe, even the ones who identify as HARD leftists, who make their leftism 80% of their personality. even if you meet a "reformed" racist/right winger, who magically "saw the light" this is NO guarantee of their character. they might walk and talk like a leftist, they might outwardly say things like "racism is bad" "i'm pro-choice" to get you off your guard, but i need to highlight how PERVASIVE right wing ideology is. It's not as simple as performatively saying things. it shapes the way they think and behave on a subconscious level. they might quack like a leftist duck, but then when faced with any kind of personal conflict that actually requires them to exercise the morals they preach about, they will act in monstrously selfish and cruel ways that utterly contradict the image they projected of themselves.

and it's a TACTIC. they will get you off balance with their "i'm a lefty!!" bullshit, and you will be slower to react when they show you their true colors because the contradiction between who you think they are and who they actually are won't make any sense to you. i personally don't believe if someone was raised to be a conservative, racist misogynist that there's any saving them. their foundational neural pathways are already built for selfishness, cruelty and hatred, and that's not something that can be magically unlearned in adulthood without intensive therapy over a prolonged number of years. stay safe and stay the fuck away from men.

Ngl as someone who was solidly entrenched in diahell for about 7 years, I keep forgetting that not everyone is accustomed to dark content, particularly unhealthy romance stuff, in their fiction. However this only really struck me when I encountered discourse on Ascended Astarion from BG3, because while the relationship with him is definitely unhealthy, compared to some of the shenanigans in DL it seems tame to me.

I was listening to a podcast where the hosts were absolutely ripping into HoW and how much they hated it (which everyone has their own opinions and that's ok) and all I could think of was "please go watch Tourist Trap (1979) and tell me which one you like better." HoW is actually a remake of that film instead and man, it is absolutely off the rails.

I still like Tourist Trap though. Half of the plot makes no sense, the acting is over the top, but it's extremely weird and fun.
