what's that window thing in western little houses called. the thing that's a little stuck-out nook with a wrapped-around window; half hexagon space with three glass walls? I've existed in one as a kid in a airbnb in D.C. and have been hung up on it since. One of my biggest dreams in life is to live in a house with that kind of thing. I want that space to have a trapezoid-shaped cushioned seating pushed up against it, I want to bring it squishy pillows and books and a mug of tea. I wanna make it so there's a curtain I can draw to create my little enclosed space but not without sunlight as a reading lamp. I'll eat breakfast in there and people watch and sketch the streets with the people I'm watching. do you see it

Dark Star Falling (8 of 9)
The room has marble walls with bronze embellishments lined with disorganized scroll racks. It is an unusual shape, not quite a trapezoid. Enver Gortash has never seen architecture quite like this. His best guess is Dwarvish.
“--I’m running along the outer ledge, trying to line up a shot on the Emperor when suddenly I am just horny as all get out.” He can hear Darling’s voice from the hallway outside, but all he can see in that direction is a sickly teal light.
A triangular table-like outcropping extends from the shortest wall and on it sits an embroidered cushion, and on top of that, a skull with all of the teeth removed except the very long, very pointed canines.
“Right that minute, in the middle of the fucking apocalypse, Haarlep is going at it in my body.”
Gortash looks down at himself and sees unfamiliar clothing but otherwise he seems to be fully intact. Of course the netherstone is gone.
“I’m sorry, darling,” that lilting, upper city voice replies.
“No, this is a funny story. I know youve got autonomy issues but it’s not as bad as that. I can still do things, it’s just kind of distracting. I get inappropriately horny in lots of situations unrelated to incubi.”
“I suppose that’s true. You are a freak,” he laughs.
Gortash sits up and immediately regrets it, but keeps going, swinging his legs over the side of the stone bed and overturning a metal tray with goblets and such.
“Anyway, that was when Gale hit him with a fireball and he went up like woomf, so–” Darling stops mid-sentence at the clatter.
“Have a nice chat, love.”
“Right. Yeah. You sure you don’t want to stick around?” Gortash doesn’t hear a response but Darling appears in the doorway alone. They don’t say anything as they walk to the table, pick up the skull, sit down on the pillow, and let the skull sit in their lap. Gortash feels lightheaded and nauseated, still trying to get his bearings.
“Where am I?” he croaks.
“The Tourmaline Depths, underneath the Szarr Palace,” Darling says, looking at him with an amount of concern that makes him deeply uncomfortable. They pick up a goblet from somewhere he can’t see, wiping it out with the hem of their shirt. “It’s been… about a day and a half.”
That’s right, he’d been in his office at Wyrm’s Rock Fortress. Darling had walked in the door with Minthara, a wizard with a Waterdhavian accent, and the high elf that had attended the coronation with them. The elf didn’t say anything during the meeting, but Gortash was confident that he was the owner of the upper city accent.
– – –
“It’s time I take matters into my own hands. We could have–”
Darling cuts in, “I’m gonna stop you right there. You need to hear this. I believe it’s too late to regain control of the brain.”
“Why in Bane’s name would I listen to anything you have to say? You destroyed my Steel Watch,” he’s trying to hide how much this hurts him personally, but the facade is cracking.
“They were controlled by tadpoles. When the brain breaks free it would’ve taken them with it. I couldn’t let that happen,” Darling pleads. They try not to sound like they’re pleading, but they aren’t sure if it’s working. Gortash starts to interrupt and Darling barrels over him, “I’m acting on your hypothesis, Enver. You voiced a concern to Ketheric that the energy of the Crown would cause the elder brain to metamorphose into something more difficult to control.”
“You couldn’t possibly know about that,” he says with uncertainty.
“Good ol’ Ketheric hid his private thoughts in the floorboards next to his thrice damned bed. When he wasn’t leaving them lying around for anyone to read, that is. He concluded that the solution was to consolidate the netherstones in a single wielder. You came to the same conclusion, tho your offer to share the stones with me was...” they trail off with a shrug.
“That’s precisely why I put the brain under the upper city.”
“Yes, I read your journal too. Something, something perfectly formed to concentrate the psionic force of the netherstones? And if we lose control it’ll be perfectly formed to concentrate the psionic force of a metamorphosed brain against us,” they pause, and glance back at their wizard. “I spoke to the brain at Moonrise. It knew my name. It called me kingmaker-returns-pawn (which would be a really good title for a ballad about me).”
“You’re not a pawn,” Gortash says, briefly forgetting that he’s furious with Darling.
“That’s not the point. It also said I made it–that I gave it everything. It’s blowing smoke up my skirt. I don’t like it. You should be deeply concerned that it has the will to screw with me. I didn’t ‘crawl back from my bloody disgrace’ by frolicking into traps (I’m usually the one who sets them) and I’m telling you that it’s hiding something.”
An awkward silence follows. Darling reaches towards him, but pauses and puts their hand back down at their side. His eyes dart around as he works the problem in his head. The wizard whispers something about trustworthiness in Darling’s ear.
“Faithful, to me,” Gortash commits to the decision, and the faithful all start advancing on Darling’s troupe. “I think I will hang your corpse in the Wide–the Archduke’s would-be assassin. The people will celebrate your fall, and my part in it. Your bones will be a souvenir of–”
– – –
And then nothing.
“That’s when Astarion shot you full of drow poison, Gale put you in a resilient sphere, we killed all of your guards, fed you a bunch of potions of sleep, Minthara (reluctantly) carried you, and we all jumped off the tower to a skiff we had waiting for us on the beach by Wyll’s old fishing spot,” Darling says, petting the skull in their lap as tho it’s a cat.
“So the brain has been destroyed,” he posits. “Or else you’re hiding in this moldering ruin from an army of mindflayers.”
“The first one, tho not before it turned all the tadpoles, so there are likely still hundreds of mindflayers wandering around the sword coast, but that’s not why we’re down here.”
“And you were right about its treachery?”
“About it being up to something? It gave me a whole monologue about sending you dreams so you’d put the astral prism into play which would give it the opportunity to rebel and there’s nothing I could do to stop it, et cetera, et cetera.”
Gortash puts his head in his hands. He was so sure he had covered all the angles but Darling being correct meant he’d failed months ago and had been digging a deeper and deeper hole for himself ever since. He can feel Bane’s disapproval like a fist clutching his heart and knows that if he died now he would be tortured for eternity for his failure. His cult is surely scattered, his holdings seized or destroyed, and his reputation obliterated. Darling could have killed him in Wyrm’s Rock. Should have killed him. He deserved death for such a complete and utter failure. What use is he to his god like this? Did he already know he had lost when he sic’d his guards on Darling?
Finally, looking up at Darling, he asks, “So what is this? What do you expect to happen here?”
Darling’s mouth shifts to the side and they say, “I was thinking we’d have a conversation that’ll become a fight that’ll become a fuck that’ll become an ultimatum.”
“I accept your premise but tell me the ultimatum now and I’ll answer it at the end,” he counter-offers with all the gravity of discussing lunch plans.
“You have to renounce Bane,” Darling pauses, thinking. An ultimatum needs to come with consequences. Gortash waits for the rest, trying not to have an emotion about the beginning. “We can be whatever you want, but not in the name of a god, any god. If you insist on remaining with His cult then I’m going to turn you over to the Flaming Fist or the Watch–whatever’s left upstairs.”
“Whatever I want?”
Darling hesitates, realizing they’ve maybe left that clause a little too open-ended for someone who's spent as much time as Gortash has among devils. “I could add ‘within reason’, but what I’m hoping for is that, if you want to be with me, you’ll want something that’s compatible with what I want.”
He opens his mouth and then closes it again, frowns, and looks away thoughtfully. “I assume the tadpole is gone already and you have your elf… I don’t know what you want beyond that. I suppose that’s what the conversation is meant to be about.”
Darling is taken aback that he remembered what they had said on their first (no, second) visit almost a tenday ago. He always gives the impression that he’s only barely listening for what he wants to hear. But still, he’s so subdued. He had tried to kill them. Maybe destroying the steel watch really was too much of a betrayal. “Assuming you even want me, that is," Darling says, hesitantly.

(TML) Table Map Library - Q1 to C9
Tumblr media
For information on the Table Map Library, how it works and how the information was researched - read "Table Map Library - Introduction"
CB location (Q1), Target Diamond (C9)
Tumblr media
10:30 Analysis
It's worth remembering that 2-rail reverse spin shots help make the path off the 2nd rail closer to parallel to the line to the first rail. Consider reverse spin for other similar situations.
12:00 Analysis
Similar to the "round-the-world" shot - but further down the cushion, this is a good way to reach a big ball in that corner. Notice that is also passes right through the foot spot - in case the target ball is on that line.
1:30 Analysis
The corner pattern just doesn't change much, even though the cue ball is moving with running English. The angle off the 2nd and 3rd rail are opened up - but cancel out when the ball comes into the corner. Also note, the cue ball does travel to the opposite diagonal corner, so any big ball there is easy to reach.
Other Sized Tables
For 8 foot tables, the same type of pattern requires about 1-1/4 tips out from center to get the paths shown. For 7 foot tables, 1-1/2 tip out from center is necessary to follow the pattern. The distances on small tables are less, so when the cue ball travels around in a trapezoid pattern, the rail contacts are more distorted.
Play with the Online Version.

The lawn of the football field is not as scrawled as you think
The European Cup is going on in a lively manner. You watch the football stars dribbling, passing and shooting one by one. It's like they have magical powers on the soles of their feet, rubbing against each other on the green stage. However, football and lawn are not related at the beginning. It doesn’t matter if you don’t play well. You can first understand this magical “green”.
Tumblr media
Croatia star Modric skates and kneels on the lawn
From dust to grass The lawn became a venue for football matches only in the 1960s. Before that, it was held on dirt grounds - football was dusty on sunny days, but when it rained, it turned into a mud pond. game. Turf just solves these problems. In addition, football is becoming more and more popular. With many professional players making a living and large-scale competitions, the competition has become more intense and there are more and more physical confrontations between players. Turf is also popular among players because it has good elasticity and can cushion the impact when falling.
Tumblr media
The lawn of the football field is naturally not as disorderly as the meadows where horses are grazing, nor is it like the green grass in the park, which is just a "face project." Because people have to exercise vigorously on it, they have special requirements for its elasticity and hardness. Therefore, the lawn of football fields is very particular. Over the past decades, a complete set of systematic projects has gradually been formed.
The first is the selection and combination of grass species. Next, we need to consider the physical structure of the lawn, with clear layers such as drainage layer, support layer, buffer layer, etc. Later, floor turf and artificial turf emerged that could be disassembled and assembled. With every World Cup, team players are updated and the stadium lawns also keep pace with the times.
Tumblr media
The structure of a football field lawn is no simpler than a building. Its underground part is divided into 4 floors:
1--Sand layer: It is composed of soil and fine sand. It is the planting layer and nutrient layer of lawn grass, which can fix the grass roots and retain fertilizer. At the same time, the soft sand can also cushion the impact of falling or sudden stops and turns during exercise.
2--Mixed layer of gravel and coarse sand: Larger particles of gravel and coarse sand can prevent the upper layer of fine sand from falling into the water pipes and blocking the water pipes, but at the same time it does not delay water seepage.
3--Pebble layer: Select large pebbles to cover the pipe network, which can support the upper soil and does not affect water seepage.
4--Drainage pipe layer: Drainage pipes are the channels for the circulation of excess water in rainy and snowy weather or after watering. It is in the shape of an inverted trapezoid with an open top and is embedded in rammed earth. The entire network of drainage pipes is arranged in a fishbone shape.
Therefore, there is a big difference between the lawn of a football field and the lawn in the park or on the hill behind your house.
The grass of the stadium lawn cannot be scrawled. Not all grass is suitable for football field lawns. The most basic standard is that it must have strong viability, be resistant to trampling, and be easy to take care of. If a game had not been played, the lawn would have been devastated. Most lawn grasses are selected from wild grasses through artificial cultivation. Their common characteristics are: many and small leaves, slender and upright, and tough leaf sheaths. The densely grown small leaves make the lawn very dense; the upright and slender grass blades help light transmit to the lower layer of the lawn to prevent the plants from growing poorly due to being too dense; the tough leaf sheaths can protect the leaves during pruning and trampling.
Tumblr media
The seasons of the five major football leagues such as the Premier League and Serie A, which are popular around the world, span almost 10 months of the year. Therefore, in order to maintain green grass for a long time, most football fields choose grass species with a leaf green period of more than 200 days. Geographically speaking, each football field is located at different latitudes, with different cold, warm, dry and wet conditions. The selection of turf grass will also be based on local conditions - usually the 35° latitude line is used as the boundary, and cold and warm turf grass are planted respectively.
cool season turfgrass
The genus Poa in the family Poaceae is distributed in temperate and sub-arctic zones, with approximately 250 species worldwide. It can successfully survive the winter at a low temperature of -20°C and remains green at -9°C, but has poor heat resistance and begins to wither when the temperature reaches 25°C.
Tumblr media
Ryegrass belongs to the genus Lolium in the family Poaceae, mainly distributed in the temperate continent of Asia and Europe, with more than 10 species in total. It can still grow during the long winter, but is dormant in summer.
Tall fescue belongs to the genus Festuca of the family Poaceae and is distributed in temperate and subtropical regions. It is the most resistant to drought and trampling among all lawn grasses, can adapt to extensive maintenance, and has strong disease resistance, but it is not tolerant to high temperatures.
Tumblr media
In areas with latitudes higher than 35°, football fields are mainly planted with cool-season turfgrasses such as bluegrass and ryegrass. They are short in stature, have thick leaves, and are resistant to poor soil and severe cold. In places with latitudes below 35°, warm-season lawn grasses are mainly sown. As you can tell from their names, they come from the tropics: Manila grass, Bermuda grass... Most of them reproduce quickly, have a long lifespan, and will not wilt when exposed to the sun. Warm season turfgrass
Tumblr media
Manila grass, a genus of Zoysia in the Poaceae family, is distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and Australia.
It has excellent toughness and elasticity and is extremely resistant to trampling. Manila grass likes to grow in hot and humid environments and reproduces quickly.
The Bermudagrass genus Bermudagrass is distributed in the tropical regions of southern North America.
The suitable growth temperature of Bermuda grass is between 25 and 35°C. It likes a humid environment and stops growing when the temperature is lower than 16°C.
Tumblr media
Paradise grass belongs to the genus Paradise grass in the family Poaceae and is distributed in subtropical areas of Asia and Africa. The plant is low-growing and has dense leaves, making it particularly suitable for football field lawns. It has a well-developed root system and outstanding drought tolerance.
Painting on the lawn is not just for good looks
Tumblr media
Stade de France, one of the venues for the European Cup
Some people may ask that stripes, concentric circles or grid patterns are often seen on football field lawns, and the colors are different, deep and light. Is it just for good looks? In fact, in addition to having a decorative and beautiful effect, these patterns can also help players, referees and spectators judge whether it is offside. According to different "drawing" methods, it can also be divided into temporary patterns and permanent patterns.
Tumblr media
temporary pattern
It is a pattern pressed into the lawn with a roller. When mowing the lawn, use a roller to roll it in different directions so that the stems and leaves of the lawn grass fall in different directions. Due to the difference in light reflected from the leaf surface, the lawn shows dark and light patterns. But after a period of growth, the lawn grass returns to its natural vertical state, and the pattern will disappear.
The lawn can also be made into a checkerboard pattern. The picture is of the Toulouse Municipal Stadium for this European Cup.
permanent pattern
It is formed by planting lawn grasses with different leaf colors. Before sowing, first draw a pattern on the base soil layer, and then sow seeds according to the pattern. The color differences between varieties are used to express the pattern.

Manual Wheelchair Tutorial by Fade31415
So... I technically drew this 3 years ago but forgot to post it. I think I was going to clean up the end and make a nice recap, but I ran out of steam and then just left it as a wip for years. I got reminded of it because I was talking to a friend about how to draw wheelchairs today.
This covers most of what I view as the most common errors when it comes to drawing characters who use manual wheelchairs. I hope it helps you a lot.
Image description is in alt text, but there is a back up image description under the cut in case that does not work for some reason
[image description: a 4 picture long wheelchair tutorial. the background is white and the text, when it appears, is black and in calibri. each step will be labeled with "Step #" and a description of the drawing next to it, and "text" and then the text that is written to explain it to follow.
Step one text: So, you want to draw a character who uses a manual wheelchair? Awesome! I can't approve more. Drawing characters who use wheelchairs is a bit different than drawing standing characters, because of obvious posing differences. But to start, you need to know what parts of a wheelchair you will draw. So, without further ado, here are 3 wheelchairs!
Step one image: a simplified drawing of a chubby woman sitting in a quickie GPV manual wheelchair and resting her hand on the handrim of one of the wheels. this is labeled "the artist"
step two: next there is a lineart drawing of three wheelchairs. one is a tilite TR series 3. this is an ultralight wheelchair with a bucket seat (the back is lower than the front), a big cushion and a short backrest that kind of contours to the back of the person who would sit in it. the caster wheels (front wheels) are very small and the footrest is just two little metal bars. next image is a quickie GPV. this is also an ultralight wheelchair with a low back, but its caster wheels are slightly larger, the back has regular upholstery (it does not look like it was made to conform to the back of the person who sits there) and the frame is boxier -- there is no bar underneath the seat where the wheels would attach, rather each wheel is attached to the side of the chair. the next wheelchair is an invacare tracer. it is how most people imagine wheelchairs when they hear 'wheelchair'. it has no cushion and it has a high backrest with handles. it has high armrests that would be comfortable to rest your elbows on if you were just sitting. the wheels are not bicycle wheels like the previous two but are rather plastic. it has big footrests and big caster wheels.
text: the wheelchairs on the left are the ultralight, sporty kind. I have one of them (the quickie). the one on the right is a more standard one you might find in hospitals or as the public wheelchair in grocery stores or the mall.
step three: first is text to accompany the tilite. "This wheelchair has a really thick cushion - it's pressure relieving, which you need if you use your chair ufll tiem and especially if you have a spinal cord injury. This wc has the smallest caster (front) wheels. They are hte most handy for turning in small circles." next there is text to accompany the quickie gpv: "This one has the one I use -- it isn't pressure relieving, but is still useful." next is text to accompany the invacare: "this wheelchair has no cushion - you do not want to sit on it for long. This one has the biggest caster wheels - they are useful for not 'tripping' when your front wheel gets caught on an obstacle.”
step four text: like with all complex drawings, you want to break it into simple shapes first. I normally have a box underneath the seat, a rectangle for the backrest, and a trapezoidal thing for hte area from the box to the footrest. these are the most important shapes, because your character will rest on them and they will move with your character.
step four image: the lineart of each wheelchair has been put on reduced opacity, so we can see the square representing the backrest of each seat (the square is the smallest for the tilite and biggest for the invacare), the box for each seat and area underneath it, and the trapezoid for the footrests. the next step labels the images of these simplified shapes as the lineart is removed. "Note the proportions of each set of shapes is not the same - just like how you wouldn't draw all your characters with the same proportions on their faces!"
step 5: we see the same shapes to form the wheelchair, but now with blue circles drawn where the back wheels would be.
text: next shape is the wheels - two circles
step six: next we see the wheels and shapes have been reduced in opacity and the basic structure of everything about each wheelchair: footrests, caster wheels, upholstery details, axles has been drawn on in orange.
text: the next stage is everything else that's structure - front wheels, handlebars, cushions, footrests.
Step seven: we see the lineart on top of the lowered opacity sketch.
text: you can then do detailing like axles, spokes, upholstery, etc and lines
step eight: next we see three drawings of different characters. there is patience, a skinny white woman sitting in a blue invacare wheelchair. kelley, a slightly chubby black woman wearing a stripey dress sitting in a red quickie gpv wheelchair and doing a wheelie while smiling. then luke, a white man with short blond hair wearing khaki pants. he is sitting in a tilite chair.
text: once you get your wheelchair basics, you need to find out which kind your character uses. here are three characters who each use one of the example WCs. patience uses the invacare. she needs one with a better cushion, but circumstance prevents it. Notice the chair is a bit wider than her hips - it's not custom fitted. Also notice she has to turn her elbows out awkwardly to move. the high armrests prevent a smooth push. her wheelchair has big caster wheels and far-back back wheels. it is made for stability and difficult to turn, but also difficult to knock over. Her chair indicates a lack of resources or temporary injury, and is primarily a transport chair
kelley uses a wheelchair like mine - it is fairly sporty, but has a box-y frame underneath. this makes it heaver than if it didn't.she has a mediocre cushion - it protects her, but only some. her back wheels are further underneath her body than Patience's, which makes it possible to do the wheelie (demonstrated here). her wheelchair is supposed to look line one you'd use full time, but it is a little old.
luke has a spinal cord injury. he has a very thick pressure relieving cushion for medical reasons. his chair is also ultralight, with no boxyness under the frame. his chair is the newest and lightest - it indicates his wealth/resources, but also that he needs to use on full time.
step nine: just a drawing of me sitting in my wheelchair holding my hands up to show fingerless wheelchair gloves. we're looking at me from above.
text: when you're choosing what wheelchair to give your character, think of both their disability and their resources and go from there. questions to ask yourself: is it made specifically for them or is it mass-produced or a hand-me-down (if it's custom, the seat will not be too wide or narrow in comparison to their body and their feet will rest on the footplate naturally). do they want more stability (further back back wheels, big caster wheels) or maneuverability (the inverse). do they need a pressure relieving cushion? how long are they using their wheelchair per day? how long have they needed a wheelchair? Do they have health insurance? do they have access to a lot of spending money? How much can they spend on their wheelchair? are they athletic etc etc
posing steps:
step one: a sketch of two people standing up. one just shows the outline of a person's body, with legs that are ind of triangle shaped, the other shows a sketched pelvis and rib cage to go along with the bones of the legs and arm. text: step one: Most people have this sketch anatomy they put before drawing their characters for real. I kind of scribble around like on the left, but some people use skeletons on the right.
step two: there are now too sketched pictures of people in wheelchairs. one shows lightly traced human form (arms articulated, curve for a stomach, legs that are kind of triangle shaped and pointing down) sitting in a wheelchair that is just the sketch of footrests and wheels. the other sketch shows the sketch of a body with a circle for hips and an oval for a rib cage and the person doing a wheelie (lifting the front end of the wheelchair off the ground and leaning back). their wheelchair is also sketched out and defined by a circle for their wheels and 2 lines, 1 of the seat and 1 for the backrest. text: you need one of those for your wheelchair character. important: they should have both the person's main anatomy features (Usually upper body and at least hips) and the wheelchair's. for me, these are the back wheels, footrest, and seat. why simplify to just those features? Take a look at this incredibly quickly drawn wheelchair.
step three: there is a lineart drawing of a manual wheelchair with slightly cambered (angled towards the seat) wheels, a backrest, and a footrest. the frame is light and there are no handlebars. there are labels pointing to different parts of the wheelchair: Backrest, handrims, wheel, axle, seat, footrest, and caster wheels (the ones in front). text: there are a lot of parts, and not all of them are essential to your pose. trying to draw the whole thing straight out of the gate will frustrate you.'
step four text: take a character in heavy armor: if you draw her pose without taking her armor into account, her armor will clip through her body. if you draw a wheelchair using character without keeping her wheelchair in mind from the beginning, the pose won't make sense.
step four image: next we see two lineart drawings of different characters. one is a bulky woman wearing plate armor. her hand is on her hip and she is trying to scratch her back with the other hand. there is the label "shoudlerpad clips through face" and "thumb clips through chestplate." the next drawing shows a woman in a wheelchair with one foot rested on her knee and her arms rested back, such that they would be rested on the back of a regular chair, but the back of her wheelchair is not wide enough for them to actually be resting on anything. the text here reads "elbows not resting on anything" and "foot not on footplate"
step five: there are two images, one is lineart on top of a 3d modelled apartment with sketchup, the other is a colored in version of that lineart with the background also colored in and no longer a 3d modelled screencap two characters, one old woman wearing a green jacket and one younger woman wearing a white shirt and blue undershirt, are sitting on a couch. the old woman is leaning forward and the young woman is resting her arm on the couch. behind the young woman is a bookshelf.
step five text: you may say you'll just draw the chair first and then the person, but while that works for regular furniture, it doesn't work as well for most manual wcs. take this comic panel with characters on a couch for example - I 3d modeled the room and then drew the characters on the furniture. it works because you don't move furniture in most poses - you rest on it. but your wheelchair needs to move with you, especially if it's an ultralight one.
step six image: there is a flat color drawing of barbara gordon in her wheelchair. she is wearing a black sportsbra and black shorts. in the first image we see she is doing tricks in her chair, zooming through the air (as if she has just launched herself off the ground in a skater park or somethign) while her left hand is resting on a structure and her right hand is heading towards the right handrim. the next image shows her right hand planted on the ground and her chair and body above her, such that she is briefly doing a one-handed handstand, but the motion line indicates that she is moving and this will not last. her left arm is near the handrim of her left wheel.
text: take exercise Oracle - she is doing tricks. Her WC is an extension of her body. That is crucial to getting natural looking manual wheelchair users after posing.
step seven: we see a lineart drawing of paula from young justice. she is sitting in a standard manual wheelchair with high armrests (goes up to the bottom of her ribs probably) and a high backrest (goes up to just below her shoulderblades). she is setting her hand on the armrest, leaning forward, and holding her other hand out.
text: of course, there are exceptions - if you have a clunky WC, it is harder to move with your body. Take Paula from young Justice - here, i drew her resting her hand on her armrest, because she has a clunker wheelchair. her pose is already mostly static - she's sitting down - and she poses around that.

With Time: Chapter 40 - Emancipation
Author’s Note: Adrien has an apartment! I just decided to say that he straight up bought it. Also, reference 'slides' are a bit different this time. I, uh, had a little too much time on my hands, and I found a room/house design thing online and built it off of a random floor plan I'd found, and then decorated the main living space. Also, yes I made sure he had an apartment with a balcony. I haven't looked at it for uh, probably a few weeks now, and I don't have time to fix anything weird, soooo... bear with me? Also, I don't know anything about this in general, it's mostly just to give you a better idea of the setting.
Yes, I purposefully chose the more unusual furniture and decorations.
Anyway, find them here!
Chapter Summary: Adrien gets settled into his new home.
First | Previous | Next
It took time. More than they wanted, and far less than they expected.
It took time, but Adrien is free.
The morning after they’d decided to start their operation a little earlier than expected, there were already articles.
Articles that didn’t look so good for the Agreste brand. Sure, initially, the lawyers tried to keep on top of it, but more came.
And more.
And more.
And more.
The stream of articles was seemingly endless, and just as Marinette suspected, more hidden things came to light over time.
Once there had been a few days of the fashion mogul’s reputation taking a beating, they struck.
Adrien legally began the process to become emancipated.
Gabriel was furious. He demanded Adrien come home, but couldn’t enforce it. The bodyguard quit, openly supporting Adrien’s decision.
Nathalie was the only one to stand by Gabriel.
When the day came that they had to go to court (they suspected Gabriel found a way to have it pushed forward to end the madness sooner), Gabriel’s smug face made his stance clear.
When they’d played the clip. Gabriel looked pale, not having realized that they had that.
It’s not even the end. They not so subtly accuse the man of everything from unpaid child labor to child abuse and there’s proof for all of it.
By the end, Adrien is granted emancipation, along with plenty of Gabriel’s bank account balance as monetary compensation for all that happened.
Which brings them to now. Everyone had had a sleepover at Marinette’s, and now they’re helping Adrien with his new apartment.
Chloe’s movers had finished with the bigger furniture items already, now they were figuring out what else he needed.
Marinette paled as soon as they entered the apartment. She stared for a moment, then walked into a corner and covered her eyes, her back to the room.
“Adrien. I love you. I really do. I understand. But at the same time. I just. Cannot.”
“Aw, Mari, it’s not that bad. It could have been worse,” Adrien teases, well aware of her feelings on the matter.
When Adrien was choosing furniture for his new home, he’d come to the realization that he truly could choose, anything.
Anything at all.
Some of his motivations had partially been choosing things that would have hurt his Father’s very soul, but mostly, he just chose things that he liked, paying no mind to whether it fit with the style of the room.
In fact, he tried to get as many colors as he could.
And that was just with the furniture. They hadn’t even gotten to the decorations yet.
Marinette’s poor designer soul was having a crisis. Chloe, Allegra, and Felix seemed somewhat uncomfortable looking at the mess, but Allan seemed fine with it. Claude had played the biggest role in helping him choose all the pieces (there was a shark head bean bag that they’d been the one to discover), so they were the least surprised. He and Adrien had matching grins.
They’d been planning, and they were far from done.
Marinette wheels around at the implication that he could have made this worse. “Please don’t,” is all she manages to whisper.
It really isn’t as bad as it could have been, and honestly, if he were to go too far even he’d be uncomfortable. The walls are a cheery yellow, standing out against the dark wood floors. Near the door is a white circular table (it’s hard to call it a ‘dining table’ when all he has for comparison is the one back at Father’s place), with four chairs around it. There are two types of chairs, each pair placed across from each other.
One set, a grape colored oddity, had caught his eye immediately. It was just so different from anything he would have found back at the mansion that he’d been immediately sold. The wide curved bottom is supported by thin trapezoid shaped legs that connect to each other through another metal rod along the bottom. The base of the chair tightens as it becomes the back before widening again in a vaguely crescent shape. It’s partners at the table are entirely different. The bottom is like small wooden stools, a lighter oak color. The ocean colored back starts as smooth wings along the sides before connecting in the back, not even coming close to the stool, leaving a gap.
“At least the other stools are just gray?”
“I’ll just… only ever look at your kitchen. Only your kitchen. Ever.”
That’s fair. He’d left the kitchen alone, and as such it was likely the tamest part of the main room. The stools in question are simple, wood legs with a simple gray seat and back.
There are four of those stools seated at the table, facing into the kitchen. The other side of the surface has a sink. The fridge is in the corner, with more counters next to it, and a stovetop at the end. A microwave hangs on the wall, with wall cupboards next to it. The counters and cupboards are simply white, and the wall behind them is some sort of triangular zig-zag pattern of gray and white.
“Did you end up getting that Ponyo rug?” Allan redirects them.
“Of course!” Adrien hurries to the living room, where, sure enough, most of the space in front of the couch is taken up by a rug with Ponyo’s sisters swimming forward together. The couch itself is three cushions long, the base and back of it being dark gray, while the seat cushions and half of the middle back were light gray. The other two back cushions were half blue.
A short gray coffee table holds the tv, and a fluffy pink beanbag is next to the shark head one, parallel to the wall.
“Yeah,” Chloe quips, “This is what I imagined Adrikin’s decorating as.”
“We aren’t even done!”
“Before you go to the store, you may want to go through each room so we can make a list of what sort of stuff you want to look for,” Sabrina reminds.
Allegra gestures towards the empty walls. “Like what you want to do with your walls.”
“Pictures,” Adrien answers immediately. “I want memories on my walls, not money. I don’t want to put something up just because it’s fancy or expensive. If I have something, it’s going to be because it makes me happy.”
“That is the most precious thing I’ve ever heard. How on earth did you become so sweet in that place?” Claude hugs the former model.
Adrien tries to shrug, but it’s difficult with how many people are hugging him now.
---
The group leaves the apartment again, having dropped off all the purchases.
“Well, if we’re going to get pictures for you, then we’ll begin with whatever you want to do. Decision time!” Allegra cheers.
“Uhhh… I don’t really know.”
“That’s fine!”
“Yeah, we can just explore the city with you!”
“You’ll have no restrictions for once!”
It would be nice to be able to go around Paris as Adrien without having to worry about an akuma on his tail or Gabriel tracking him down.
“Let’s do it!”
They wander around the city, often stopping at the well known landmarks Adrien had never been allowed to properly visit. Everyone is sure to take pictures of each other, doing their best to catch as many moments as they can. Marinette and Claude catch each other taking pictures of each other, grinning mischievously at each other through the lenses of their phones.
Allegra takes a picture of that.
At one point, inspiration strikes Marinette, who begins planning out loud to Allan, who happens to be the closest. Adrien stares at her with such a soft face, and Felix gets a picture of his expression.
When they get slushies at some point, Allegra has a red one, and Chloe a blue one. Chloe mumbles something about purple being a nice color, and Adrien gets a picture of their blushing faces. When they stand to go, Allegra holds out her hand and says, “Since we’ll be walking for a while, could you hold this for me?”
Their faces get even redder after Chloe takes the other girl’s hand.
Sabrina got a video of that interaction.
One of the group gets a picture of Claude and Adrien mimicking The Thinker.
Eventually, it’s getting a little late. Everyone starts to head back to Adrien’s place, Allan and Marinette muttering to each other.
The pair drag Adrien into a grocery store.
“You need to learn to cook.”
“So ya’ need ingredients.”
Marinette gets out her phone, showing it to Adrien. “These are all fairly simple recipes, so you choose a few you want to try, we can get the stuff for those.”
Adrien bounces where he stands, going through the list and choosing five or so. “Are these good?”
“It’s your choice, so if you want them, then they’re good,” Allan assures.
Adrien smiles at that.
Marinette shoves him towards the others. “Allan and I can get the ingredients, you can choose some pictures. They’re all in that shared album, so just choose your favorites and get them printed.”
He salutes her. “Yes, ma’am!”
---
Adrien unlocks the door, gesturing for everyone to enter.
“Ready to try your hand at cooking?” Allan calls as he and Marinette set the groceries on the counter.
“It sounds exciting!” Adrien cheers, hurrying over to help them put things away.
“The rest of you, out of the kitchen!” Marinette ushers everyone else to the living room. “Shoo!”
“This is ridiculous-”
“Utterly ridiculous, yes Chloe, we know. Out!’
With the other five banished from the kitchen, Adrien, Allan, and Marinette focus on their task.
“So it may be for the best if ya’ choose a recipe that doesn’t need an oven-” Allan starts.
“Just for our piece of mind-” Marinette continues.
“For your first few goes.”
“Of course if you want to try one-”
“That needs an oven-”
“Then we’d certainly support that-”
“But we just aren’t so sure our hearts can handle the stress-”
“Of you ‘playing with fire’-”
“So to speak.”
Adrien just looks between the two of them, blinking a few times. “When did you start finishing each other’s sentences?”
The two look at each other, then shrug, speaking in unison, “It just happens.”
“Claude calls it their ‘Mom-mind-meld’,” Felix informs.
“It’s freaky!” Claude shouts, “One minute they’re normal the next they’re telepathic! Always be on your toes! You never know when it’ll start!”
“We aren’t that bad,” they argue.
Claude gestures at them helplessly. “See?! Same tone! Same inflection! Same everything!” He falls off the couch, then scrambles backwards to hide behind a beanbag.
Marinette rolls her eyes. “Ignore them.”
“Anyways, we’ve got to get started-”
“This dinner won’t make itself after all.”
“So here’s the list you made-”
“The ones that don’t need an oven-”
“Are at the top.”
Adrien glances back at his other friends. “Should I be scared?” He stage whispers.
Allegra, for her part, seems to be amused. “You’re fine. Just don’t get hurt. If anything happens then you’ve got two synchronised anxious mom types hovering over you. Just accept your fate, they’ll be fine.”
Adrien turns to the list, eventually selecting one of the ones near the top.
They nod, Marinette reading off the instructions, while Allan supervises Adrien’s actions. For the most part Adrien does it all on his own, though the other boy has to intervene at one point, when Adrien almost cuts his finger off.
When the two have been assured there’s not even a cut, let alone blood, they continue, and soon enough Adrien has finished.
High fives are exchanged, and Marinette produces a gold star from somewhere, sticking it on the recipe card she’d written everything down on.
“Now you know you’ve done this one before!”
“Great job!”
“Hey! Mari! Al’! Over here!”
“Yeah?” Allan answers.
“What?” Marinette asks, confused.
“You’re all good, Claude. They’re back to normal.” Allegra turns to where Claude is presumably hiding.
Sure enough, the actor pops up. “Thank goodness.”
“Adrikins! What did you make?”
In response, Adrien begins to set out plates, and everyone hurries over.
---
“Where are Allegra and Claude?” Marinette asks, setting down her lunch box as she arrives at the lunch table where only Allan and Felix are seated.
“Last minute student tour.”
“Ooh! Exciting!”
School has been strange ever since the news of Lila broke. Her fellow students had definitely seen the story, and she knows they’re not stupid. There’s no way they didn’t piece together that she was the student bullied out of Dupont. She knows there had already been rumors of her having been bullied, and that ‘some girl called Lila Rossi’ had hurt her.
Surprisingly, these rumors didn’t seem to make people dislike her, instead they all just loved her more for it, which had confused Marinette early on. She’d been so stuck in the mindset that people would hate her if given any reason to.
Then the school just decides that they still like her? It had been confusing.
She could tell people were torn. Everyone was aware that it wasn’t their business to bring it up, but everyone acknowledged what happened without flat-out saying it. Mostly, her classmates just seemed to be extra nice for a few days, wanting to see her smile, which was nice, but she can already feel herself trying to figure out how ‘pay them back’ which is a habit she’s been trying to break.
There’s no need for her to ‘pay back’ kindness. Her classmates just wanted to lessen what they knew must have been a stressful experience. Still though, it’s so ingrained in her that she needs to pay someone back for anything and everything.
A new student would be nice, just to change up the norm for a bit.
“What’s up Mari?”
She groans, flopping onto the table. “Nice people are nice, and I’m still trying to convince my brain that that doesn’t require any sort of ‘pay back’.”
Allan frowns. “Oh dear.”
“We will have to work with you on that, but for now, perhaps a distraction would be nice.”
“Like what?”
Felix nods towards the doors to the cafeteria, where she can hear Allegra, “...and here’s the cafeteria.”
Claude continues, “This room contains absolutely no one you’ve ever met before, most definitely not the love of your life, as an example.”
Marinette turns around, seeing Claude, Allegra, and…
Adrien.
She smiles widely, getting up and rushing over.
He catches her in a tight hug, spinning her around. “Hi, Mari. Surprise?”
“Plotters, each and every one of you.”
Claude pretends to be taking an oath. “We only use our powers for good, I promise.”
“Mhm?”
“Okay, maybe sometimes for mischief.”
Allegra rolls her eyes. “With you it’s always mischief.”
“Or puns!” Adrien adds.
“I’ll have you know that my school puns are high class.”
“This. This is my life for the foreseeable future.”
Marinette just pats Allegra consolingly.
“You know Claude, geology rocks, but geography is where it’s at.”
“I can’t even threaten not to finish your tour because you have Claude. This is ridiculous!”
“Aww, you’re starting to sound like Chloe,” Marinette teases.
Allegra goes slightly pink, throwing her hands in the air and walking away. “Allan and Felix will leave me alone.”
Felix shakes his head as she approaches. “If this is about your girlfriend, then it is fair game.”
“We aren’t dating.”
“We can hear the ‘yet’, Ally. Also, we both know I’m not above puns,” Allan chimes in.
“I get no peace.”
“You’ll get used to it,” Adrien consoles, coming over and swiping some of Marinette’s food, who huffs in mock-offense.

Author’s Note: Look at Adrien! Becoming an Independent Boy!! Love these precious children!
For those of you that wanted more of Gabriel's entire life coming crashing down around him, I'll be writing that eventually and posting it! No worries! I just need to get my inspiration/motivation back. It ran away and I would like it back now please.
For those of you who want more fluff, I am simply going to redirect your attention to the fact that With Time is now part of a series, and you can now read how the Quantics all met! They're so cute!
Again, find the references for the apartment here! Keep in mind, I didn't decorate it to the fullest extent, and just threw a few random things on the walls, etc, so imagine your own as you please.
Adrien isn't calling Gabriel 'Father' anymore. That man is no one's father.
Thanks for reading! Feel free to leave any thoughts, theories, constructive criticism, or anything really in my ask box, in replies or through reblogs. I love seeing what you think!

leia meets the prequels gang, pt. 2
part 1 is here
Last time, Leia got dragged from her moment of greatest grief to one of Anakin’s; helped avert a Big Mistake; and realized just what a mess she has gotten into. In this section, the Clone Wars are just beginning and Leia meets Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi at last.
----
“I knew this was a bad idea,” Anakin muttered.
They had found Obi-Wan. Unfortunately, where they had found him was chained up at the center of an arena – right next to Padmé, captured in the chaos of their arrival on Geonosis. It had not been a smooth rescue operation. One point of optimism: they’d loaned Leia a blaster.
Leia and Anakin were in one of the tunnels leading into the arena. She’d been surprised to find it empty, but she wasn’t going to argue. She squinted into the glare of the sun, taking note of the roaring crowd. “Any ideas about how to get those two out of this?” Leia asked.
Whatever bright ideas they might have come with, they got cornered by battle droids instead. They fought surprisingly seamlessly together, Anakin slashing droids to pieces while Leia fired blaster bolt after blaster bolt. Leia caught glimpses of some kind of gladiatorial game in the arena, and hoped like hell Obi-Wan and Padmé were handling that all right. They were fighting back-to-back when Leia look an unlucky hit.
More Jedi arrived just in the nick of time, flashing lightsabers cutting a path through the droids.
This wasn’t my battle to fight, Leia told herself later, trying not to flinch as a medic in white armor applied a bacta patches to her burns. This isn’t my war. These aren’t Stormtroopers, not yet.
If she had doubted when she was before, she knew exactly what year it was now. She was right in the middle of the First Battle of Geonosis, the beginning of the Clone Wars proper. This was her father’s war. She tried not to look at that thought, tried not to think about her parents, alive, and Alderaan, shining blue and unharmed. It hurt too much.
“Just hang tight, ma’am,” the medic said, touching her good shoulder. “These should see to the worst of it. Just rest and heal up.”
She closed her eyes, listening to the distant blasts and roar of battle. She’d been here a thousand times, though rarely as an injured soldier. Military bases and battles had become her home. And she knew that the Republic had won this first battle; barring bad luck, there was no reason to believe she would die today.
The quiet hum of the engines turning on roused her. “Where are we going?” she asked the nearest trooper.
“Coruscant,” he said shortly.
“Wait,” she said, before he could go. “I’m with the Jedi. I need to...report to them when we get to Coruscant.”
“Noted. Ma’am.” He left her, and she settled in for the long trip. Sleep now, and worry when there was something she could do about it. Her body, trained for this by now, listened.
Leia kept reminding every trooper who handled her where she needed to be. As they passed over the Senate district, Leia realized they were approaching a building she recognized: a massive trapezoidal structure that towered over the surrounding buildings, with towers that rose like stalks towards the sky. A shiver went through her. It wouldn’t be the Imperial Palace, not yet, but her instincts didn’t recognize that.
The medic who’d seen to her wounds – he’d introduced himself as Skye – had come to stand beside her at the viewport. “Must be the Jedi Temple,” he said, sounding faintly awed. “Think I’ll volunteer to see you in, get a look at the place.”
“That eager to see it?” Leia said, keeping her voice light. The transport came in to land on a wide platform built onto the side of the temple, and Leia let Skye lend her his arm. Even with the bacta patches, she felt a little shaky on her feet.
The place had been built with tranquility and grandeur in mind, on a scale so large that it would be easy to feel insignificant. Leia was used to this scale from the Senate, and she was on a mission. “Do we wait here?" she asked Skye.
“Someone’s meeting us.” He shifted a little, though she noticed he was careful not to jostle her. Was that discomfort in the shortness of his response? The conversation between them appeared to be over, and they stood in silence until doors opened and an elegant woman stepped out, her simple brown robe trailing behind her.
“I don’t mean to be inhospitable,” she said, her dark eyes sweeping over Leia and pausing on her bandaged shoulder. “I can see that you were injured, and you had a long journey."
Leia understood, suddenly, and a mix of relief and frustration made her want to laugh. She was an unknown quantity, demanding to see the Jedi just when they’d been unexpectedly attacked. “I understand your caution. I came to Geonosis with the Jedi Anakin. I lost track of my friends in the fighting, and I would like to know that they are safe.”
The woman closed her eyes for a moment, seeming to seek something inside herself. Whatever she saw satisfied her. She made a half-turn and gestured to the door. “Come, then. I do not think you will be able to see Anakin, but his other friends are inside.”
Her clone escort was sent back to the ship. The medical ward the woman guided her to was crowded and just shy of chaos; it had not been built to see so many patients at once. They passed through a main ward, then into a hallway, cooler and blessedly quiet in comparison. The woman opened a door, and in the split second before anyone could notice, Leia saw Padmé sitting with her head bowed, looking bone-weary. Padmé raised her head, and her eyes widened. “Leia!” she said, and then they were hugging. Leia was surprised to realize that she was holding on just as tightly as Padmé. She had so few anchors here; thank the Force she had not lost this one.
“The others?” Leia asked when she pulled away.
Padmé glanced away. “Obi-Wan will be fine. Anakin was...badly injured. He’ll live,” she added quickly. “They're sure he’ll live. But he will take some time to recover.”
“Are you waiting for him?” Leia said gently.
The other woman laughed unhappily. “I shouldn’t. I should...I should get back to my people. This was the opposite of what we were supposed to be doing, you know. We left Coruscant to keep me safe.” She was silent a moment, staring into nothing. “And I think we started a war,” she whispered.
“Give me your comm code,” Leia said firmly. “Go back to your people, and I will wait and call you when they say he can have visitors.”
Padmé turned to her, surprised. “How do you know they’ll let you stay?” she said.
“I don’t plan on giving them a choice,” Leia said dryly, and Padmé’s eyes lit with just a spark of mischief. She shook her head, then reached for her comm and read out the code Leia had asked for. Leia committed it to memory.
“This is my personal comm,” Padmé said. She hesitated to move, though. There was a quiet step in the doorway, and they both turned to look. Obi-Wan Kenobi stood there, not yet the general Leia’s father had spoken of, but a coppery-haired man with weariness and determination in every line of his body. Padmé went to him, taking his hands and squeezing them. “He’s in surgery,” she said softly. Then, glancing at Leia: “Come meet someone.”
Obi-Wan allowed himself to be steered over to Leia. He bowed his head courteously, his eyes raking curiously over her. “Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, this is Leia Antilles,” Padmé said. She managed a ghost of a smile. “Leia, I can finally introduce you to Obi-Wan.”
“Finally?” Obi-Wan said, crooking a brow.
Leia looked Obi-Wan Kenobi over. He had been a familiar name, one she had been holding onto with hope and desperation before some mysterious force brought her back to this time, but she had no idea who he was now, or what he might do for her. But there was kindness in that face, and years of her father’s stories reassured her. “I need help,” she said bluntly. “But it will keep until you know how your...how your friend fares.”
Obi-Wan sat in one of the cushioned chairs and stretched his legs out before him. “To be frank, I could use the distraction,” he said. “Tell me.”
Leia sat down, thinking fast. She looked to Padmé, frowning.
“Would you prefer company, while you tell it? Or privacy?” Padmé asked, reading the indecision in her face.
With relief, Leia said, “Privacy, please. It’s a strange story, and I’m not sure...I’m not sure it’s safe to share.”
Padmé nodded, and Leia was grateful for the understanding. When she had gone, Leia sat in another of the chairs, leaving space between herself and Obi-Wan. “I don’t know much about the Jedi,” she admitted. “Is time travel one of the impossible things they’re capable of?”
Obi-Wan's eyes went from polite inquiry to startled interest in an instant. “Did you see something?”
“Master Kenobi, I experienced something,” Leia said. “I am more than twenty years out of my proper time. From your perspective, I have not yet been born.” Obi-Wan rubbed at his beard, his hand hiding his mouth. Leia’s heart sank. “I take it this is not a well-known Jedi mystery, then,” she said.
“No, indeed,” Obi-Wan said slowly. He looked her over again, his eyes dimming. He leaned away a little. “I can consult with those more learned than I, but I doubt that anyone would know the way to send you back.”
Leia felt the numbness around the hole in the center of her start to slip. Just for a moment, and then she was able to step back again, refocusing on what needed to be done. “No, there is no going back, is there,” she said, her voice low. Even before her trip back in time, she had known that her world was lost. What needed to be done?
“I can see you placed somewhere...find you work, and...”
Leia laughed harshly, cutting Obi-Wan off. “You can help me stop this war, and the next one,” she said.
Obi-Wan reared back as if slapped. “The next one?”
“The one we are fighting against the winners of this one,” Leia said.
She watched him absorb that, watched denial war with fear and sorrow. He took a breath, his nostrils flaring. “That is a tall order,” he said.
“But it must be done,” Leia said. “I must do it, and I can’t do it alone. I have no connections, no resources, in this time. All I have is what I know about what happened—and even that is incomplete.”
Obi-Wan looked thoughtful, then chuckled softly. “What’s so funny?” Leia asked.
“For someone who claims to have no connections, you have stumbled into some powerful friends,” he said. “Or did Padmé not tell you that she is a Senator?”
Leia looked sharply at Obi-Wan, then smiled. “She did not. I suppose it makes sense; she said that Anakin was sent to guard her.”
“There, you see. So you have your choice of people to find you a place in the Republic. But I think...” Obi-Wan met her eyes. “I think that I would like you here in the Temple. I have enough friends here that I think I can manage that. Will you wait until I am able to arrange things?”
He was asking for trust, and Leia knew that he already had it. “Of course.”
Obi-Wan shook his head, then stood. “I asked for a distraction,” he said. “The Force has a wicked sense of humor.” He went out into the hall, and Leia settled in for a long wait.
And so Leia was the only one waiting when a white-robed healer came into the waiting room. “Have you seen Master Kenobi? Knight Skywalker is awake.”
Knight Skywalker? “Do you mean Anakin?” Leia said.
“Yes,” the healer said, a touch impatiently.
“Master Kenobi had business to attend to,” Leia said.
“He will be contacted,” the healer said decisively. She eyed Leia. “Who are you? You’re not Jedi.”
Leia shrugged. “A friend. Leia.”
“I’ll ask if he wants to see you,” the healer said.
“Wait, before you go,” Leia said. “Is there a comm terminal I could use?”
Leia followed the healer’s directions and found the terminal. She put in Padmé’s code, then waited for the call to connect. Padmé’s sounded breathless when she answered. “Is he...?”
“Awake, apparently,” Leia said.
“I’ll be there. Tell him I’ll be there as soon as I can,” Padmé said, and ended the call. Leia wondered, not for the first time, just what Anakin and Padmé were to each other. Had they become dear friends while thrust together in the difficult time before the battle, as Leia was beginning to do with Padmé? Or were they long-standing allies, as her father and Obi-Wan might be?
The healer intercepted her on her way back and steered her back towards patient rooms. “He agreed to see you,” she said. “One visitor at a time, mind, so if someone else shows up you’ll have to work that out.”
Leia stepped into the room, feeling strangely uncertain. Anakin looked exhausted and somehow smaller than before. It took her a moment to register the bandages around his arm and realize what had happened. “Hello,” she said calmly, not yet moving closer.
“Leia,” Anakin said. He looked a little lost, his gaze drifting over her shoulder. “Where’s Padmé?”
“On her way,” Leia said. “She had to let people know she was safe, I think. And Obi-Wan is around the Temple somewhere,” she added, before he could ask.
Anakin relaxed bonelessly into the bed, although his face was still tight. “You did well out there,” he said. “Handled yourself in that fight.”
Leia wasn’t sure where he was going with this, what the undercurrents in this conversation were. “It wasn't my first time in one,” she said.
Anakin nodded, and there was something in his eyes that made Leia wary. “What were you doing on Tatooine? How did you find us, and why did you need to see Obi-Wan?”
“Are you really accusing me of something from a hospital bed?” Leia said.
“I don’t know, do I need to?”
Leia crossed her arms. “No,” she said. “I don’t mean any harm to any of you, and it was just coincidence that you were there when I needed you.”
“I don’t believe in coincidences,” Anakin said.
“You don’t have to, they just are.” Were they? whispered something in Leia. Something had brought her to two powerful people, connected to the very man she had been sent to find in her own time. Coincidence, maybe. Or maybe something had brought her there on purpose. “I didn’t have any control over it, anyway,” she amended.
Anakin squinted at her, and the hairs on the back of her neck prickled. Instinctively, she made her mind and her face blank, holding herself still and quiet. Anakin’s frown deepened, and Leia shuddered. “I think there’s a chill in here,” she said. It had been a long time since she had felt this nameless, out-of-place panic. She had hoped she was over such spells, but maybe the frankly unprecedented stresses of the last few days had thrown her off.
“Yeah, a chill,” Anakin said, but he looked a little confused. “Uh, sorry, the...” He lifted his hand and nodded towards the tubes feeding into it. “I think whatever they gave me is making me a little...”
Leia nodded. “Do you want me to leave?”
“No, it’s...just stay till Padmé gets here.”

I have some progress videos if this is ends up being too confusing.
Materials: hot glue, foam and foam clay, fabric, cushioning foam, ribbon, paint, some type of paint sealer, and socks. Colors I used were a mix of orange, black, white, and yellow.
If you are using knee high boots I’d still recommend you put something like fabric to protect them. I’d like to stress that you make sure your material is thick enough, so you don’t ruin your shoes in the process.
1. Starting off I made the claws out of layered foam and roughly carving out an oval like shape. It doesn’t have to be perfect bc it’ll be covered later. Mine were about 5 1/2cm long and 2cm tall at the base of the claw.
2. I used cushioning foam and created a large oval for the middle claw. The two side claws are essentially sideways horns. It’s ok if you accidentally cut to much off you can cover it with foam later as long as it’s sturdy enough around the claw it should be ok. At this point, I cut holes within the cushioning, so the claws would be snug when I hot glued them on the foam. After that, I glued it to the sock please be careful with this. The sock should only cover the boot by the way.
3. Now the not so fun part foam. For the two side claws: Take a measuring tape and measure from the top of the claw to the bottom.(width) Then from the start of the claw to the edge of your shoe (length). For the middle claw simply measure from one end to the other and careful cut a curve. This is so it will sit around the claw. Next your going to need two long rectangles with triangles at the end( like a pencil shape). These should go from the crevices to the the outer edge following the other pieces. Lastly, your going to need a long trapezoid to go around the top/ the rest of the shoe.
4. Now to the fun part foam clay! First, cover the claws and try to smooth it out as much as you can. Then start making small circles and build your scales from the claws leaving roughly 4cm of space at the top. Make sure you push them up a little in the back otherwise they can fall onto each other and clump together.
5. Unfortunately, things get complicated again. When your clay has dried make sure you can fit your foot in without any problems. Once you’ve done that measure from the ankle of the shoe to your knee and around your calf. This will be how much fabric/foam you’ll need. You can glue this to the foam left at the top( the 4cm).
Lacing: I used a corset type lace for this, so start by making some holes on the sides of your fabric or foam. Try to make them even on both sides. When lacing it your going to start from the bottom by pulling your ribbon through the 2 holes towards the bottom. Your going to take those two pieces and push them through the top of the next two holes by crisscrossing them. It should look like an X and both should be on the inside. Then making an X again pull them through the holes and repeat.
6. Now either way you do this it’s a pain. Your either going to have to build with the shoe on, or put something sturdy enough inside. You don’t have to have it laced for this part. Starting from the 4cm/ where your fabric should be attached start putting foam clay you can texture this as you see fit. Stop once you reach where your ankle boot cuts off or a little higher than your ankle. This is where we start putting more circles of clay. I did rows of 3-4 just depends. The clay shouldn’t go completely around only to the edges. It should be to where the sides are slightly covered but the back isn’t. You want to give yourself some wiggle room. You can leave it as is or press it down a little. Mine stuck to the fabric, but I’m not sure if that works on all types. Then all that’s left it’s to wait till it drys, paint, and seal it.
