Gaang headcanons + Ozai's Angles

Aang: He/him, straight ally. If you tell him (as a girl) "I like girls" He'll say "Oh, me too!" Or if you tell him you wanna change your name, or have different pronouns, he will automatically respect it. Because the monks always said "Love has no boundaries, love who you want."

Katara: She/her, straight ally. She really doesn't care who you like (not in a bad way) because her brother is bi, and she wants everyone to be happy and comfortable with who they are. She will respect pronouns and chosen names. (She will accidentally mess up the first few times and get really mad at herself)

Sokka: He/him, bisexual. He can't explain why he likes girls and guys. He just does. He will occasionally slip at preferred pronouns, he will mentally curse himself out. He doesn't get very happy with himself.

Toph: She/her, polysexual or pansexual. She cares for personally (duh). She tries to respect others, but yeah, she's sassy and kinda mean. If you tell her something like preferred name, pronouns or sexuality, she'll respond with, "Okay." And go on with her life.

Zuko: He/him, omnisexual. You think being on a ship with only men would make him come out as still straight? No. He didn't like any of the men, but it brought out some questions for himself. Of course one of the first things he did as Fire Lord was make same sex marriage. He wants everyone to be happy. Tell him your preferred name, pronouns and your sexuality, he'll respect it. He's nice like that. Yeah, he'll slip a few times, but he has a bit of a crappy memory sometimes.

Suki: She/her (trans fem), bisexual. She loves and respects everyone's pronouns, chosen names and sexuality's. She wants people to be happy and accepted like how she was. She knew she was a girl from a young age (so did her village) and they all accepted her, especially the Kyoshi warriors.

Azula: She/her, lesbian. Has internal homophobia from being raised by Ozai. If you tell her your preferred name, pronouns and your sexuality, she won't care. In secret she'll call you by that, but around Ozai and other officials, she won't. Always liked girls, but never had anyone to talk to about it.

Ty Lee: She/her, bisexual. Her bi awakening was Azula. She really liked Azula but it slowly became fear. Tell her your preferred name, pronouns and your sexuality, she will be very happy you told her, and she'll hug you. She likes it when people are honest with her.

Mai: She/her, bisexual, demiromantic. Tell her your stuff (I'm sorry, I'm done typing all that) she won't care. She'll just act like she always knew and say something like "Yeah, I was waiting for you to tell me." Or "Took you long enough." Her bi awakening was Ty Lee.

I know it sounds like a parody of that edgy meme with Batman and the Joker, but speaking entirely genuinely, I related to Zuko as a boy and now I relate more with Azula as a woman

The people who cut off their genitals and breasts literally behave like when Azula cut off her bangs. The thought just came to me and I wanted to share it.

I'm not familiar with that so I looked it up.

Looks like Azula has mental issues which makes it a good analogy for being trans. No person engaging in gender mutilation is a normal, well-adjusted person who just so happened to be 'born the opposite gender inside' or some bullshit. Outside of weirdo mom Munchausen by Proxy, there's usually a mental illness comorbidity, such as from abuse or autism. Just because someone was abused or has autism, doesn't mean they should be subjected to stealth eugenics.

Thoughts on trans Azula or Zuko fics?

My thoughts can mostly be summed up as "read and write whatever you want, I support you" and "don't read or comment on a fic if you don't like the premise, keep scrolling".

I don't personally see either character as trans but to each their own, and I'm fine reading good fics about it. I do know of a Zuko one, in particular, called Role Model.

I think in general, there's a lot of transphobia in fandom (and IRL, for that matter) and as such, people get super bent out of shape whenever someone talks about a trans headcanon. It's unfortunate. There's really no need to be rude if you disagree or it's not your thing, ignore it or filter it like a normal person.

Fire Siblings headcanons

-Azula is trans lesbian & Zuko is trans bisexual

-Zuko, fighting back more, doesn’t care and is open about his bisexuality along with being transgender (even though he spent s1 chasing his dad’s approval, I still don’t see him hating himself for being who he is)

-Whereas, Azula tries to “make” herself straight because she wants to stay on her dad’s “good side” and “doesn’t want to lose his approval”

-When it comes to being trans, Azula genuinely believes that Ozai accepts her and believes that he’s just “joking” whenever he pokes fun about it.

-Zuko and Azula always spoil either other's nieces, which pisses the other off

-Azula always hogs the bathroom, driving Zuko insane

oh post canon game very exciting. if I had to pick a canon where i know the Most about my post canon (and where I have more memories post than during canon) I'd have to say Azula (atla.)

first and foremost i think its so funny the comics think the fire nation had straight jackets and "asylums." thats so funny. i was in prison. I was in prison and then I spent an absurd possibly inhuman amount of time in solitary confinement (I forgive my brother for this, I truly was causing too many problems around other people. it was a different Time.) Eventually through Circumstance however when one member of team avatar caught me wildly disassociating and self destructing inside of an ice cube he decided he'd make me his little pet project. and it worked very well. he sat with me for my main meal every day for months and therapized me. often very poorly because he was just as much of an idiot as he was intelligent, but that made two of us.

after that I transed my gender, (eventually...) rebuilt bridges with my brother and uncle, kind've squirmed my way into team avatar, and got deeply into spirituality. never truly became a pacifist and did enjoy firebending deeply for the rest of my life but eventually it became better for me to tune my innate connection to my element towards more peaceful endeavors, and I was damn good at it, thank you. I remember visiting my uncle for tea in the spirit world... I do quite like the theory that that firebending priest in TLOK is me, I can see it. maybe if they gave her One sarcastic quip I'd know for sure, but I can see it.

one other fun piece of trivia, had a phase where I got really into dance, specifically that kind've showy firebending stuff you see in book 3, it was another good way to use all my training towards understanding my element and my body in a way that was nondestructive.

on firebending; an INTERESTING thing, I don't associate very much with the blue fire. I think I did that because I was deeply mentally ill and needed people to think I was perfect and beyond every one elses level, and knowing what I know now about *how* i could do it it was very impressive, but it was purely show, the fire wasn't actually hotter, i just needed people to think I was cool. I suppose I just dropped it at some point.

all of this is wildly noncompliant with canon and i just assume I will never meet anyone with similar memories. cest la vie. I will say I quite like the most recent post canon comic for me, they do actually bring spirits into it, which considering how important that became to me I really appreciate it and do hope they'll take me down that line, even if they leave out my year or two of prison mental breakdowns and my stupid little boy toy. and you know i'm too girl power for them to ever realize CLEARLY i am transgender (joke, I know im *very* non compliant for that, all love to other azula kins who kept their canon gender, I however was a failboy.)

I don't. have any post canon memories of my mother. I don't know if we met her. i hope if we did she didn't do what she did in the comics. but i wouldn't blame her. part of me hopes I never saw her again. i just don't think I'm ready to think about it.

That comic was genuinely cathartic for me to make. When I tell people I view Ozai as a transgender man, the first thing almost everyone says is some variation of “but what about Ursa??” like…you’re missing all this other potential subtext, angst and metaphor, especially with his relationship to Azula. Anything that explores more of their weird, toxic yet codependent relationship is what I’m here for.
