So, I meant to take tons of TFN pics this year; there were SO many amazing cosplayers, artists and traders.
But I was too busy living in the moment like a fucking nerd so I forgot 🤣 I’ll be posting my art haul over the next… whenever but I wanted to share the couple of pics I do have - check out the TF Nation page for more and better photos 🤣
Thank you to the fantastic organisers and my fellow volunteers for putting on a blinder of a convention, the artists and forgers who came and shared their peerless talent with us all, the vendors who made sure everyone had some fun new toys, Toy-Fu for being their usual butt-kicking selves and raising over £35,000 for Mary’s Meals, our guests for being fun, engaging and delightful to chat with & spend three days being silly about robots with us and FINALLY, to all attendees; you came with love, passion and cosplay and made it a convention to remember 😁 Till All Are One 💜

Rewatching TFA and I love stinkin ol' grumpy rude prick of an Autobot Ratchet so much I wish he would just trip on a rock and twist both his ankles- Also I think he should be allowed to swear his heart out
His voice always reminded me of Soldier from TF2 so that's where the first quote and the rocket jump doodly thing is from

Jack Lawrence (MTMTE/Lost Light Artist) is compiling a list of people providing safe spaces at the upcoming TFCon in Orlando, Florida, due to the current political and social climate against LGBTQIA+ people in the state.
A lot of people invest in conventions and not everyone can afford to cancel, so this is a hugely important thing and it's awesome that he's doing it, which is why I'm sharing it here.
If anyone might be attending TFCon in Orlando, please be extremely cautious and use Jack's list to know who you can go to and where you can go at the event if you feel like you might need a safe place.
I'm hoping TFCon won't be holding any events in Florida next year (or ideally ever again), but this year things were arranged well in advance before things dropped off a cliff legislatively in FL, so everyone involved got screwed this time around.
I'm from Florida myself, unfortunately, and I don't advise ANYONE to travel there for any reasons whatsoever. It is extremely dangerous, and it was never a good place to begin with. It is a hellhole.
For those who don't have a choice, for example those who financially need to attend to make back merch/print costs etc., I truly do feel for you. Please, please be safe. <3
TFCon Orlando is also offering refunds to any LGBTQIA+ ticket holders who do not feel safe attending due to the location.
This is extremely cool of them to do, and if anyone planned to attend but no longer feels safe doing so, please contact them (details at the link above) and get a refund sorted out.
I want everyone to be safe, and don't feel bad if you either have to get a refund or if you feel like you have to attend. Either way, just be safe, and make the safest decision for you. <3
EDIT: Here is the Equality Florida Advisory Warning for Travel.
It is not advised to travel to Florida. It is not safe.
Please, if you must attend, be extremely cautious.

do you guys every think abt death vs immortality as a thoroughline in like. literally all of the mechs albums.
old king cole is explicitly warped by immortality (never to forgive he would eternal live, his hands dyed red by gore - can be read a few ways depending on where u place the emphasis, but at the very least communicates that his wrath is facilitated By his immortality), and the olympians commit attrocities in order to hold onto their wealth and the immortality that it grants them (murdering arachne, yanking heracles' chain the second he tries to go freelance, having a monopoly on the acheron etc). the value they put on immortality and living forever, and the fear they have of ever possibly losing it, has completely warped their morals and priorities.
and while it comes up less in tbi, there's still significant emphasis placed on how odin has been in power for a century (both thor + the narrator bring it up, and there's also an emphasis on how long ago the bifrost project was started, and how 'no one left living' can explain its science). her villain monologue in rangarok iv places the extinction of asgard as an honour - a ruin that no one can possibly rebuild from is called 'apotheosis'. and as she says at the end, the idea that no one can possibly outlive her is a key draw for odin. asgard dies with her.
in hnoc, the only really immortal character is brian (and we only really know that bc of knowledge we get from outside the album), but the axis of life and death as a privilege vs a curse is still very present. 'mordred's gift to Arthur could be love in his own eyes / fating him alone to keep the life to which he clings', not only posits that the gift of survival isn't inherently good + kind (which the audience would immediately recognise as love, not possibly love), but places emphasis on the fact that arthur is now utterly alone. the station's death at the hands of mordred is hardly a happy one ('Its people damned, doomed by a man who's lost all his regrets'), but arthur's fate is arguably worse. severed from the finality and closure of death, what does he become? [insert that one cool theory abt hnoc arthur becoming old king cole here]
it's like. on a meta level, the reason we as fans don't put much emphasis on the depravity + cruelty of the mechs is bc the people portraying the mechs are all charismatic + skilled performers. in live gigs they're all portraying the fun side of their characters - roasting each other, bantering with the audience, making fun of the characters they're singing about, referencing off-screen violence - bc if they portrayed their lore too literally they'd be comitting felonies LMAOOO
but narratively, its like. literally every album is a meditation on the ways that the glorification of immortality can ruin civilisations - can ruin galaxies. whether its rooted in the fear of you specifically dying, or of being outlived, or overpowered or forgotten, or if its done for the sake of someone else's survival... it's all corrosive. if u refuse to accept the indisputable impermanence of life, you lose the ability to value it, and u numb urself to the reality of just how fucked up it is to cut another person's life short for any reason.
like. i do think some of the mechs started as good people, and some of them even might still have ethical standards, but i REALLY cannot stop thinking about how fucking. fascinating it is that this group of immortals who are KNOWN for basically considering nothing but how fun and/or violent any given activity will be, have basically filled their entire discography with songs about how their continued existence is corrosive and brings tragedy + ruin wherever they go.
so how self-aware are they? do you think those old morals + ethics still linger in their mind, when they're writing down these tragedies? they willingly self identify as liars + thieves + bastards, etc etc, and they seem to have no trouble identifying the 'bad guys' in the various albums (ie: humanising snow + cinders + rose, but not king cole), but do those concepts actually mean anything emotionally, or even theoretically, for them all beyond their dramatic potential? do they remember their lives before they were mechanised as it actually happened, or do they remember it as lyrics to a song? is it possible to be entirely self aware abt ur own capacity for violence (as jonny in paticular claims to be), if you no longer relate to violence as anything other than a narrative device - a means to an end, whether comedic or dramatic?

Comm - Furry Convention (Bunny TF/TG)
AnthroCon took place over the weekend, and while I may not have been able to attend it myself, I can still pretend I did in spirit. There's no better way to do so than by sharing this Convention-based TF/TG by the talented at Chesshire88 on FA. Here, we see my OC transmogrified by quite the enchanting ID Badge for an upcoming event, taking the shape of the illustrated fursona printed on it. Originally submitted as part of Chess's Convention event, which saw a number of other commissioners turning into anthro forms of their own, I was lucky enough to land one of the spots, turning into a lookalike of my rabbit OC, Chase, with a TF/TG twist to boot!

Okay, so, the first TFNation swag I wanted to show off was from some of the mind blowingly talented Forge artists 😁 so many excellent people - both returning faces and new.
Pic 1 is a lovely freebie I was gifted by Kannter Art for helping herd an out of control queue away from their art table - such a lovely sticker and an excellent rendition of Prime 😊
Pic 2 is from the brilliant Captain Ogilvy - the gameboy colour games seemed particularly popular this year but I also got David Kaye to sign the Very Hungry Insecticon postcard for my sister in law 🤩 plus; the remainder of the Dinobots as adorable plushie badges 😍 look at Scarr! He’s so CUTE!
Pic 3 is from the wonderful Kanashi Kaizer - more fantastic badges (my clothes are COVERED 🤣) and some Pokémon stickers alongside the robots as I have a sadly small amount of Pokémon misc in my flat - thanks to Claude for helping change that 😁
I’ll be doing more posts on the remainder of my art haul in the near future but I wanted to start with these excellent independent artists - check out their IG pages and merch when they do a run. Well worth it! 😊

I do think character design diversity is important but pls let's not act like the boys in dandadan are diverse when they're all skinny white-skinned generically attractive boys with ONE exception
The point of the post wasn't even so much diversity as it was just character distinguishability. Whether you think Okarun's design is "attractive" or not he still has notably different features and a different build from Jiji, meanwhile Momo and Aira are identical aside from their hair and eyebrows.
And then there's obviously the aliens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where the male ones look weird in their base forms and have even weirder transformations, but the one female alien just happens to be a girl with antenna 100% of the time.
This weird need for female characters to be one specific kind of attractive all the time just gets in the way of decent character design.
