psa regarding my trans characters

today i received an ask about an "au" that would entail detransitioning laxo, aven, and river, and what the story would be like if the three of them "stayed as their original genders." the asker said they wondered if it would impact the story negatively or positively.

i am not going to reply to this ask publicly since i do not want the asker to be harassed, i believe this was a case of extreme ignorance and not out of genuine malice. that being said, receiving this ask was very upsetting as a trans person myself.

so let me make myself explicitly clear and genuine with my next statement: please treat trans characters normally.

completely erasing an extremely important part of these character's identities for a "what if" scenario is insensitive at best and insulting at worst. just entertaining the idea that the story would be better if they never transitioned is really really tone-deaf and hurtful.

laxo, aven, and river's transness is not a thing that you can just take away. it makes just as little sense as a "what if kane/maya/kenta was actually straight" au. you cant just erase that part of their identity. it is a very important core part of them and even though it doesn't define who they are as people nor what they do, any iteration of them in which they never transitioned isnt actually them.

river is a woman. there is no alternate universe version of river where she is not a woman.

laxo and aven are men. there is no alternate universe version of these two where they aren't men.

just, as a rule of thumb. if you have a question about a character's transness think to yourself "would it be appropriate of me to walk up to a real life trans person and ask them this/something akin to this?" before doing so. if the answer is "no" then, dont! please.

i love being open about these three's transness. i will happily talk about their personal journeys and things like that once i have the time, but once we get into extremely invasive/insensitive questions/hypotheticals like this it becomes a lot less fun for me.

this isn't meant to be snippy or aggressive. i'm just very passionate and protective of my characters, and this is an issue that is very personal to me.

When transformed into a beautiful girl, the normally reclusive moody Hiura becomes confident and outgoing. Midou struggles with the feelings the new Hiura is invoking in him, while Hiura puzzles over why Midou doesn't just ask him out already.
