the post where you talked about it is kind of old, but i was just wondering if you’d share some trans girl!deku thoughts?

Holy shit this is an old ask I’m so so sorry anon!

But I would love to talk about trans girl!deku, I will always jump at any opportunity for me to yap about my hcs/AUs lmao.

My hcs for mtf!Deku vary a lot but what I come back to the most with her is usually how I think UA Deku would navigate being trans. I just think that coming of age story is always interesting, especially as someone who realized I wasn’t cis pretty young.

I feel like Izuku would have started to realize probably in her 2nd or 3rd year at UA, I just think in general Izuku would have realized pretty late (although the idea of Izuku showing up in 1st year fully socially transitioned would be fun, it’s crossed my mind mostly because I think it would be funny from Bakugou’s perspective). I feel like Izuku’s hyperfixation on heroes and becoming a hero would have played a big role in her not even thinking about her gender.

Izuku strikes me as the type to push feelings to the side when she’s got tunnel vision on something. Any “weird” feelings and insecurities she had that weren’t related to being a hero just weren’t as important. It’s very out of sight out of mind I feel. Until later on in highschool, those bottled up feelings of something being wrong would all start bubbling up after years of ignoring them.

It would be little things like lingering a bit too long in front of the mirror while getting ready for class, examining herself a little too closely, scrutinizing every detail that felt wrong but not knowing why. It’s something she would have done for years but just didn’t think about. Or overhearing the other girls in the class talk about their weekend plans, seeing their bond and feeling a pang of jealousy that she can’t explain. Lingering gazes at the girls uniforms or more feminine clothes in general, looks that likely got her teased by her male classmates (Denki, Sero, and Mineta) because they got the wrong idea.

I think she’d start journaling because of this. Izuku I think has a hard time processing her thoughts and feelings, so writing them down helps. It would be like a secret on lock down journal that she doesn’t ever take out of her room. But through that it would help her understand what’s been going on, so research, and realize that those insecurities she’s had her whole life was actually dysphoria.

I think the first people to notice would be Uraraka and/or Bakugou. They’re Izuku’s best friends so of course they’d notice something was up, and Bakugou especially pays way too much attention to Izuku for him not to notice. I’m not sure who she’d tell first though, I want to say Bakugou just because historically he’s been the first to know basically everything about Izuku, but I think it would come down to who confronts her first. But they’d both be supportive.

Uraraka would be more open with her support, she’d reassure Izuku that she loved her and would support whatever she wanted to do. She’d help Izuku out with experimenting with different stuff like her hair, makeup, clothes, etc. Bakugou on the other hand I think would be very awkward if someone were to come out to him, so his response, while supportive, would come off as dismissive. But it’s not, and he makes it very clear in his actions how much he cares about Izuku’s comfort. You’d think that someone who’s known her their whole lives would struggle with accidentally using the wrong pronouns, but I think Bakugou is built different, he’d have no problems whatsoever.

I have more thoughts about her coming out process but this post is running the risk of being only about that. But tl:dr I think the class would be very supportive and would absolutely fight anyone who is transphobic towards her.

I feel like once Izuku is well into her transition she definitely models a lot of her aesthetics after her mom and Uraraka, since they’re like the most important women in her life, plus it helps that Uraraka definitely shares her closet with Izuku.

The girls in UA would have a blast inviting Izuku to their regularly scheduled slumber parties to give her the girlhood experience ever.

I don’t think Izuku would fully transition until after they all graduate, but when she does it’s 100% thanks to Bakugou being fucking crazy. You thought him spending 8 years raising the money to have Izuku’s hero suit made was wild? Try raising the money for her transition on top of that. Bakugou is the definition of a wife guy, “whatever you want my queen” he is capitol w Whipped for Izuku in every universe.

One last thing I will say in this post about Izuku coming out, I think All Might would be, of course, supportive. But I think him and Izuku would have a very emotional, heartfelt conversation about it, they’d both cry and hug. All Might would tell her how proud he is of her, how strong he thinks she is. He would tell Izuku that he believes she’s going to change the world and make waves, not only being quirkless, but also trans. Idk that’s something I think about a lot and it makes me very very emotional.

(This is a Katsuki + MtF child reader parent scenario) (CW mention of transphobia, description of violent hate crime & injuries)

Katsuki had many regrets about his past and always wanted to improve himself and he was rather good at keeping his word. He wanted to show this especially once his daughter came out as trans to him. He made sure she felt loved that she didn’t need to hide and that he would back her up completely. Even while transitioning socially, Katsuki learned how to style her hair, which helped get her into the girls' school uniforms. Not much changed except she seemed happier at first.

Then things took a turn, some days were better than others, and although Katsuki wasn’t the best at comforting he would listen. He’d sit with his daughter and listen to her vent, or let her scream out her frustrations while practicing her boxing. He would occasionally ask for help from his own friends about how to comfort her, Momo mentioned using words of affirmation and instilling in her that she was loved and that she had someone who thought of her fondly.

Implementing that did seem to help a little, though he still wanted his kid to know that he was available and he’d come up to the school and handle it for her if she needed. (Y/n) always pushed away his offers, saying she wanted to handle it herself. Katsuki decided to back off with his offers after the third time, yet he still continued with his support.

Then he felt his entire world crash. When he sent his daughter to school he had a sick feeling in the pit of his stomach. That something would go wrong, that he shouldn’t have sent her. He tried to push it away as paranoia, his daughter was strong, and she’d call him if anything happened.

He was organizing paperwork with Deku in his office when the radio went off telling Katsuki get down to the lobby area fast! Getting up from his seat he dropped his paperwork and ran out of the office with Deku in tow. Arriving at the entrance he saw Ochako carrying his daughter to the couch. The child held her abdomen as she was set down. Katsuki ran over with worry pouring out of him. When he got close enough he froze. (Y/N) was covered in bruises and blood, and her hair which was usually in it neat ponytail with her favorite pro-hero-themed ribbon was now blood-soaked and a mess. Blood dripping down their nose, and mouth foreheads. The uniform torn up and dirtied, looked like she had been tossed into gravel!

“What happened, (Y/N)?” The middle schooler looked up nervously, obviously shaken up by whatever they had just experienced. Stammering too much to get it out, Ochako started to ask the questions.

“Just yes or no, were you in a fight, hun?” (Y/n) nodded and winced, Ochako continued.

“Was this a fight at school?” “y-yes ma’am” Before Ochako could ask, Deku handed her the first aid kit he grabbed once he saw the child’s condition. Ochako started working on the injuries while Katsuki’s head was overloaded with thoughts.

‘How could this happen’ ‘who would do this’ ‘Why didn’t a teacher handle this?’ and many more!

The girl could see her father being consumed by his thoughts and spoke up.

“d-Don’t worry d-dad, g-got some good hits on ‘em” Katsuki gave a small smile seeing the proud look on (Y/n)’s face. That still didn’t make any of this better, whether she defended herself or not she shouldn’t have had to! Katsuki hated seeing his child hurt! There was a rage in him that burned bright, he had to do something about this, he couldn’t stand by after seeing his daughter like this!

“I’m gonna handle this, i promise, munchkin” He said a lil more to himself than his daughter. Katsuki then started helping Ochako tend to the child’s injuries and getting the blood out of her hair. It was a process that only made more emotions stir. When (Y/n) was finally about to calm themselves down enough to talk, it took everything in Katsuki’s power to not go on a witch hunt right then and there.

“I was going back inside for class after gym when I got grabbed by a group of classmates and they started beating on me. I did what you taught me, i didn’t wanna cause too much damage but wanted to get away….In the end, I’m pretty sure I’ll take the fall but. I-its fine i guess.”

“No.” Katsuki blurted out, and the child’s eyes shifted up at her father who stood up at full height now. An aura of rage flowed from him even if he looked calm in the face, it wasn’t hard for anyone to know he was angry. Grabbing his phone he opened the notes app and handed it to the girl.

“If you know the names of those…kids put them down…put everything down. How long this has gone on for and everything that happened today.” (Y/n) nodded took the phone and spent a good amount of time typing. Katsuki moved away to give her space and went over to deku and grabbed him by the shirt. Dragging him away into the kitchen area of the lounge.

“Kaachan what are you doing?” Deku asked confused, Katsuki sighed and shoved his hands into his pockets. He didn’t face Izuku completely, just glanced at him as he tried to gather his thoughts. Finally, he says.

“I feel like a fucking idiot” He leans against the countertop, Izuku’s eyes softened and he asked for Katsuki to elaborate.

“I should’ve done more so this wouldn’t have happened, I should’ve gone up to that school myself instead of letting her handle it….I know she said that she could and that she would be fine but…still, I feel like a dick because I didn’t just go up there and now my child got beat up!” There was a moment of silence before Izuku spoke up.

“Kaachan, you can’t fix the past, you cannot fix or erase what has happened. Yes it was awful, it is fucked up that your child became a victim of a hate crime, but. Its not like you expected this to happen, you put your trust in your daughter, and in the school system. The person you should be upset with is the school for allowing such behavior! So instead of standing here feeling sorry for yourself, you get the notes from your daughter, take her out for some damn ice cream or something. Then the next day you march your ass to that school and tell them off!” Katsuki was a little surprised at Deku’s change in tone from start to finish. First, it was light-hearted and reassuring, but then quickly changed to strict and coach-like. Yet Katsuki got the message and went back out to check on (Y/n).

Still on the couch though seemingly in less pain, she hands the phone to Katsuki who sits down beside her. Opening his arms the child quickly hugs him, he wraps his arms around her loosely a to not hurt her. Whispering soft things into her ear telling her how proud he was of her. How he was glad she came to him for help, she didn’t have to go to school tomorrow, how he was gonna take care of the situation. He still apologized for not doing anything sooner. He promised to take her out to her favorite place before going home.

“that’s just how shonen is, everyone’s gay but no one’s canon” SHUT UP PLEASE. we quite literally do not know what Hori is or isn’t allowed to do. He’s been vocal about fighting for what he wants in his story, and even if it is an executive or editor saying “no you can’t do this” look what he’s managed to do so far.

not to mention THREE canon trans characters, toga correcting overhaul at misgendering. kendo saying “I just want to be me” when talking about gender, the entire side plot with discrimination and people fighting for acceptance, Hori reading and approving all the stuff that happens in the light novels/team up missions, AND thanking/praising those authors for knowing his characters so well.

The League of Villains

Society and Quirks

So we just finished binging all of MHA and read the remaining chapters of the manga. And damn we did not expect the League of Villains to be some of our favorite characters to ever grace this Earth! But it's kinda unfortunate the franchise the ended up in. Let's talk about that!

First let's start by talking about the LoV and what quirks represented for them. In MHA it's quite common for quirks to be used as allegories for different kinds of marginalization.

Heteromorphs like Spinner are a representation of racism.

Toga's quirk is a representation of how she loves someone and how society deems that love "wrong". Toga is shown to love both boys and girls. People beg her to "just be normal". She is obviously queer.

Dabi's body was not made to deal with his own quirk. This reads as being born disabled. He also has the common disabled experience of being told to forget his dreams and aspirations.

Twice's double quirk and the trauma that came from it lead to him developing dissociative identity disorder.

Some in the LoV were also marginalized / had a rough start without anything to do with their quirks.

Magne is a trans woman.

Mr. Compress comes from a family lineage of criminals.

Shigaraki is a League of Legends player.

(No but seriously this poor kid was abused and manipulated his whole life).

Speaking of which a lot of the LoV were abused and / or neglected as children. Most of the shit Shigaraki went through was due to All For One, but it's not like his bio dad was stellar either. We all know Endeavor gets the worst dad of the year award for how he raised Toya, but Dabi also got the AFO manipulation to a degree as well. Toga's parents were neglectful and verbally abusive.

All of this is to say; The LoV members clearly had a rough life. But they found a family in each other! They all cared for each other in their own way! Twice and Toga were very close and would take care of each other. Dabi burns down Toga's childhood home. Spinner and Shigaraki bond over video games and were genuine friends. Compress takes care of everyone and saves them. Everyone is sad when Magne and Twice die.

All of this leads to this beautiful line from Shigaraki:

He wanted to be their hero. He wanted to destroy the world not just for his own urges, but to make the world a better place for his friends, for the LoV. But did he succeed, even a little bit?

Wellll... The hero society that doomed them all is still going well and thriving. The most change to come out of their mission was a bigger focus on quirk counseling. This is definitely important but it is not the only thing that needed to change. And it only changed because of ONE PERSON. The ONE person who showed empathy for Toga. Ochaco is the one to implement this change, but she is only one person. She cannot change the entire world on her own.

This is where we just can't get past the clear biases in the writing of MHA. The villains are not treated fairly. For example the heroes get off scott free with practically EVERYTHING. Bakugo dies? Just kidding! Oh the condition for him coming back to life was now Edgeshot has to die? Nah he's fine too. Deku had an entire arc about wanting to save Shigaraki when no one else agreed, only for him to kill him in the end. And after killing him it's not like he implemented changes to help prevent whoever the next Shigaraki is gonna be. The cycle will continue until changes are made.

So as you can see there is clear favoritism in the writing. And that is something that tends to be an issue whenever you have a plot device such as quirks that represent marginalization and you have villains who are trying to fight their oppressors. Let's look at a few examples!

For animation fans an example that leaves a bitter taste in our mouth is The Dragon Prince's dark magic. Dark magic is something that is seen as corrupt but also explained to be a way for humans to have magic to fight their oppressors as they were seen as less than since they had no magic. But dark magic is also used as an allegory for drugs and addiction, so it gets messy.

For the superhero fans let's look at The Boys. Supes are a complete mess. You have them representing conservatives and cops in an "all supes are bastards way" while also having them as a marginalized race in danger of being genocided. You can't have both.

Both of these examples show messy allegories in fantasy where rising against your oppressors is painted as wrong and the marginalized are also seen in a negative light due to some other component of their fantasy (drugs and cops respectively). MHA falls into the same trap with its villains. They're fighting their oppressors. They are oppressed due to their quirks just being who they are, but those quirks also lead to violent murderous urges (decay and transform most of all). It ends up creating a scenario where you teach the audience that it's bad to rise against your oppressors, it's bad to want change.

So what could they have done differently? Without completely redoing the quirk fantasy, the simplest answer would be to REDO THE SYSTEM! They hinted many times in the series it needed to change somehow and just never did. Normal civilians even wanted it changed, not just the villains! But it just doesn't change. They needed to put more focus on that push not just from the villains but from the innocent civilians as well to prove it's something that needed to change. But it never will. It's fiction and the book is closed.

But just because it's fictional doesn't mean it doesn't represent real world events. The story teaches negative things about marginalization and how we should never make a stand. It's like telling all the women right now in America to not be angry their anatomy and rights are being taken away from them. It's telling those women to love the man who is doing this to them. It's telling queer people to just accept they can't get married or transition anymore. It's telling us there is nothing to be done. But remember that isn't true! If you keep fighting things could change. It unfortunately may not be in your lifetime, but at least we can try to make things better for the future generations so no one has to hurt like the LoV did, like real people do today.

It's funny that I found this poll while searching this blog because I wrote a historical/medieval fantasy AU oneshot, with a teenaged Eri, about this exact thing. (I do have a rewrite under construction but I think this version is still worth checking out.)

A shame the poll is closed, though, cuz I'm torn between "It would save him" and "It would make him worse (affectionately)".

Ever since Katsumi was a little kid, He always knew he never wanted being a girl. He hated it, he hates wearing stupid dresses, he really hates playing with stupid ugly dolls and barbies. He hates it. He hates being a girl.

He hated his whole appearance that he overcomes it by bullying others. Especially Deku. "Look at how so fucking pathetic you are shitty quirkless Deku!!" He laughed as he poured everything out his bag, dropping it in front of him. "Poor Midoriya..."

It has been a routine of his. Reflecting his struggles to others. Maybe he acts all tough and all but deep inside, he's scared or maybe pathetic. Hah!! Pathetic?! He's not pathetic!! He literally has you!! His girlfriend that loves him so much and someone he's trying to hide cuz your both....girls.

"Hey Kats!! Ya ready to go?" You asked your girlfriend as she met up with you in the hallway. "Yeah. Let's go." You both then starts to head to the gates. You invited him to a sleepover since its weekend tomorrow, also to spend time together.

You both had stopped by at his house so he could pack his belongings for the weekends,he shouldn't have since he can just borrow some of your stuffs but he's stubborn so you just let him. "Katsumi!! Your staying at Y/L/N's house again?? Ugh just be home before Sunday night okay?? My little Prince-"

"I will I will!! Shut up!!" He yelled as he slammed the door shut. The ash blonde sighed deeply as he walked besides Y/N, an arm around her shoulder. "Does your Mom and Dad okay with me always staying at your house in the weekends?"

"Yup!! They couldn't care less plus, they're mostly not at home during weekends since they're busy." He nodded. "So basically, I'm your roommate during weekends?" He asked, raising a brow. "Maybee but you love staying with me!!" You exclaimed as he softly smiled.

"Just let me do your makeup!!" "Hell no!! Get that thing away from me!!" You've been wanting to give him a makeover but he kept on resisting. You knew he disliked makeup but you wanted to give him a makeover, to make him look more handsome than he already is.

"I'll treat you tomorrow on that ramen restaurant you like!! Please?!!" You pleaded, desperately wanting to give him a makeover. "I- ugh!! Fucking Fine!!" He said giving up. He don't wanna miss the opportunity of getting free food, even tho he knows he can afford it on his own.

"Yayy!! Okay so just stay still..." Few minutes had past and your done with his makeup, you fixed his hair abit to look abit shorter and you looked at your final work with awe. "Now look Katsu..."

"Holy shit...I look so handsome." He said, looking at his reflection in the mirror. He looks like his father but with his mothers hair color and eyes. He was in awe. "You always are." You said, smiling on how happy your boyfriend is.

"One day, maybe you can tell everyone on who you really are." You said, hugging him from behind as you kissed his cheek. "My Good looking boy."
