He watched Harry’s retreating backside and couldn’t help but wonder if this would be the last time. Would this be the last time he let Harry Hart into his life, or would he keep subjecting himself to this bittersweet torture.

“What bloody fetus? Bruv, I ain’t been with anyone since…” Eggsy’s eyes widened so comically that the doctor almost thought they’d pop out of his skull. “Shit."

He started shouting as he stormed through the house toward his front door. “Harry how many times do I have to tell ye to fuck-” Merlin was shocked at the sight that greeted him. Eggsy, eyes red and glassy, with his hand resting almost protectively over his stomach. “-off. Lad, are ye alright? Please, come in. I’ll make us some tea.”

so if we assume that both harry hart and eggsy unwin are trans men (which they are, i've decided), then the first thing that comes to mind for me is the question of transitioning, 'passing', and access to trans healthcare.

now, harry is born into all the wealth and privilege he needs to take whatever transition steps he wants and needs. I don't know the exact state of trans health care in the UK (other than that it's getting worse and worse), but I think it's safe to assume that, even if Harry came out years or even decades ago, he could have easily gotten access to all kinds of medical transition that were available at the time. now, i'm not usually one to center trans experience around medical transitioning - i think it's reductive, throws a lot of trans people under the bus who can't or don't want to transition medically for various reasons, etc. But in this case? I think it matters. Because none of the money and status harry has can free him of the burden of growing up and living in an inherently conservative, definitely sexist and most likely queerphobic environment. now, when you're wealthy and ~~different in any way, you probably mostly have two options: become eccentric (like dandies or similar rich people subcultures) or try to blend in. and because blending in is vital to Harry both for being a gentleman and a Kingsman, 'passing' and eventually going stealth is compulsory. which is why i assume not many people even know that Harry isn't a cis man. Any queerness observed from him by his fellow wealthy, aristocratic peers, is quietly assumed to be homosexuality (which is also true for Harry), and therefore not discussed.

for eggsy, it's quite a different matter. if trans healthcare in the UK is as bad as I think it is, it's very likely that Eggsy doesn't have proper access to any of it, maybe not even hrt. (uk folks, can anyone tell me if hrt is covered by insurance in the uk?) 'passing' is a privilege, and eggsy can't afford it. i think, compared to harry, eggsy had his trans awakening pretty early in life, but while harry was able to act on his as soon as he realized, eggsy probably didn't do much about it for quite some time. sure, he changed up his wardrobe, maybe his hair, maybe eventually he told a few people about his switch to he/him pronouns. but i think in general, he just lived with the fact that people in public would misgender him, and tried to shrug it off as best as he could. (I think he eventually left the military because he couldn't bear the misgendering and the inherent sexism and queerphobia of it anymore, but that's maybe for a different post.)

so, when Harry meets Eggsy, recognizes a fellow trans man in him and tries to sell to him the idea of becoming a Kingsman - do you think one of his selling points would be access to medical transition? It might be, especially because Harry probably assumes that that's what every trans person would naturally want - to blend in. but eggsy's becoming part of Kingsman is a lot about navigating his identity, and about questioning which parts to keep and which new things to take on, and it all comes down to, 'there are things from the past worth holding onto, even though others might see them as a flaw'. so, yeah. maybe Eggsy really has to consider that offer. he has lived for so long without any of that, that he hasn't even given it much thought what he would want if he could do anything. no matter what he ends up deciding, I don't think being stealth is ever completely a goal of his. he's better than all of those rich old guys BECAUSE he's working class and trans, not despite of it. he isn't ashamed of that.

and more than anything, I want harry to see that, and to learn something from it. i want him to see that he doesn't have to cover himself in shame, that he doesn't have to make up for anything. he's not a gentleman because others treat him as such, he is one because he strives to be a better man than he was yesterday, and that's all that matters.

Movie Night

So I lied when I said I was going to type this this evening, but apparently getting ready for today took less time than usual (aka i managed to close the tumblr app) so here’s the fic for @liprouvaire :D It is part of a larger universe that I haven’t named yet where Merlin is trans and I’ll definitely write more in it, but I just don’t know when. This verse is like a lovechild I have with Li and also @insanereddragon (who helped me with this ficlet to no one’s surprise)

So yeah, this one is just some shameless fluff since this is what Li asked for and hopefully I do not disappoint

Movie Night

They’re only waiting for Merlin to join them on the couch before they can start their movie.

One would think it’s because he’s busy with work-related stuff, but it’s only because he insists on snacks for movie nights and having Eggsy with them gives him a reason to go overboard.

Not that Eggsy is complaining. He’s still got a bit of weight to put on before medical is truly happy with his physical health after all.

Harry is another story, especially now that he’s mostly stuck behind a desk after accepting the position as Arthur, but he’s an adult.

He’s supposed to have self-control.

Apparently not, because Merlin is not even properly seated that Harry  is chewing on a handful of popcorn, his cheeks bulging like a squirrel.

It really shouldn’t be cute, but that’s somehow one of Harry’s superpower. Whenever he’s not handsome, he’s cute.

Before Merlin can get comfortable between them however, Harry makes a disapproving sounds and lightly pushes his back away from the couch.

“Off with the binder first, darling.”

Merlin doesn’t look happy for the delay, but he doesn’t protest the gentle order, chucking off his sweater carelessly on the floor.

It’s not the first time Eggsy has seen him chest-naked, with or without the binder on, but it’s the first time Merlin is undressing in front of him in any fashion. His eyes linger on the muscles of his arms a bit longer than would be appropriate if they hadn’t been dating for a month already as they are revealed from the confine of clothing.

However, when Harry starts helping Merlin out of his binder, Eggsy focuses back on that. Even if Merlin can clearly do it himself, he’d like to help him too one day, be part of the reason his partner sigh with such contentment when his chest is finally free.

After that, Harry reposition them so that Merlin is now lying between his legs and with his feet propped on Eggsy’s lap. Eggsy doesn’t need any direction to start rubbing firmly the graceful arches of Merlin’s feet while Harry carefully massages his chest. They stay silent for a time, Merlin with his eyes closed in appearent bliss.

“I think you should forego the binder for a while,” Harry declares when he starts working out the kinks in Merlin’s shoulders. His only answer is a grunt, but even Eggsy knows this means agreement.

He’s not really planning on saying anything, but the question fells from his lips before he can stop it. It would be mortifying but Merlin has made it more than clear than he’s not ashamed of who he is and doesn’t mind Eggsy’s genuine curiosity one bit. “Why not have the operation? At least for the breasts?” here is no way he can know what he would do himself if he were in Merlin’s shoes, but he thinks that’s one thing he would go through with.

“When I was younger, before Kingsman, if it had been accessible more easily, I probably would have. But such an operation, even if there was no complications, requires a rest period that is longer than I am comfortable with. And since I don’t really have dysphoria, I prefer bringing you all back hoe safely than to spend weeks being miserable in bed.” He reaches for Eggsy’s hand at that point, brings it to his mouth and presses a reverent kiss on his knuckles, never once breaking eye-contact.

Eggsy knows he’s blushing happily now, but he really doesn’t care. He was a bit self-conscious at first at how easily his emotions showed when he wasn’t actively spying, but it’s hard to keep being so when both Harry and Merlin are always so delighted to be the cause of such a reaction.

Merlin doesn’t release his hand, even when Harry starts peppering kisses of his own on his shoulders, and Eggsy takes advantage of Merlin’s small distraction to link their fingers together.

It’s some time before they finally start the movie, Merlin giving them shit for choosing a romantic comedy again, but he looks fondly amused when he swears to make them watch Pacific rim or any ‘other real’ movie the next time.

Neither Harry nor Eggsy mentions the fact that Merlin has also been moved to tear by the end of the movie.

His shoulders were still squared, and he had risen to his feet, trying to seem more threatening. "I ain't workin' with no one that's gonna take the piss out of me for who I am, yeah?"

Eggsy comes out as trans to Harry. Harry's shocked, and Eggsy gets defensive about it, so Harry comes out to Eggsy in return.
